I'm a former in shelter volunteer turned foster (at least for now) for AMA. They have the sweetest…read morecats/kittens that I've dealt with in a long time, besides my own adopted cat. AMA works strictly with sick, abused, and neglected cats and dogs (although I'm completely a cat person), which is more up my alley than working with perfectly healthy animals (my cat is special needs - he's three legged, so that's how I got into working with sick/special needs animals). I've been with AMA for about six months now, and while I wish I had discovered this rescue first, I unfortunately came across Animal Haven first (AMA all the way - AMA is much cleaner and nicer than Animal Haven). AMA is my favorite Brooklyn shelter, and I know people who have adopted from or volunteer/work at other Brooklyn shelters and have somewhat of an attitude when it should be about the animals in need and not about one's ego. Yeah the adoption fees here at AMA are mandatory (unlike the ASPCA where I also foster - they have voluntary adoption fees based on what you can afford; nothing is required besides being a good quality adopter in the eyes of the adoption team there) and higher than you'll see elsewhere, but the animals are genuinely cared for and loved here. The adoption fees aren't the highest in the NYC area for cats and dogs, but they're higher than most other shelters that I know of. It's hard to not get attached to some of the animals there, and I can name a handful of cats that I've grown attached to since the end of March when I came into the shelter for my first shift: Chewy, Spring, Autumn, Tiny, Puff, Kiki, Sushi, Chili, Maple, and my foster, Muffin. It's hard watching them get adopted, but it's also super exciting to see them find where they belong. Here are some final words - if you like cleaning, socializing, meeting new people in person, having some form of structure to your week, and getting out of the house, then you should volunteer in person at the shelter. If working with too many animals at once is overwhelming to you but you still want to help out, consider fostering - AMA covers 100% of costs (including vet visits which any animal lover knows can get expensive), and Mariya is always available to talk to if you need help.

I was looking to foster a second cat and decided to work with AMA in December. I had the pleasure…read moreof working mainly with Jovanna who was so incredibly thorough in the interview and chats to identify what would work best for me and my cat and who the current cat residents were at the shelter. We decided to foster Alfafa over the holidays to potentially adopt if he was a good fit for the household. It's very clear from my interactions with them that they value every animal dearly and take the extra effort to make sure every potential adopter/foster is the best fit possible. Their application is thorough, they take their time to make sure there's a good match, and it was clear the cats were well taken care of at the shelter. I highly highly recommend anyone considering to adopt or foster to work with AMA, I can't overstate how much respect I have for their work, mission, and the people there.

I've been dealing with All Fur Love for well over 10 + years now. I have 3 wonderful cats I…read moreadopted from Francesca. Two of my cats were adults when I got them and one was a kitten. One of the adults had been in another organization we all know and they were going to put this cute baby down for space I guess. Anyway Francesca took him in and he's been mine for all these years. i couldn't ask for a more lovable sweet cat. The kitten I adopted from her was found by someone on the side of the road. This person tried several shelters who said no. The kitten was in bad shape, starving, dehydrated and infected eyes but Francesca took him in. He got all the proper vet care but sadly he lost one eye and has impaired vision in the other. I donated to his care and fell in love so wound up adopting him. That was 9 years ago and he's a great cat who gets around fine. He plays with my other cats or annoys them lol and maneuvers the house just like a cat who could see. My third cat from her is a gorgeous long hair black beauty that somebody either didn't want or couldn't keep. He is another total mush who loves to be petted and loved. Fourth cat is from the SPCA about 11 years ago. She's a sweet long hair calico, my only female. I can't say anything bad or negative about All Fur Love and I donate food and funds to help them out. Every dime and can of food goes to the animals. It's probably one of the few most honest organizations out there and I used to work for the SPCA up north many years ago. Go to All Fur Love Facebook just to see what she's involved with now and tell me how many places would do what Francesca is doing.

I don't know about any other charity where 100% of donations are spent directly to rescue of abandoned cats . I adopted 2 cat siblings from Francesca and could never be happier , black boy and tabby girl -nicest kitties one could wish for As to 1 star review from Rumson $$$ "victim" - Thanks for writing your point of view Shannon - Not only it gave me good laugh but also reminded people dumb like you exist . I never responded to negative review before but whoever dealt with All Fur Love could not wrote psychotic nonsense like 1 star Shannon .Adopt from SPCA? Exceptional support and genuine care -- ARC with Love truly puts the dogs first…read more Our experience with ARC has been nothing short of compassionate and supportive. From the very beginning of our adoption journey with our puppy Rio, the team was incredibly responsive, patient, and genuinely invested in making sure both the dog and our family were comfortable. As first-time puppy parents juggling full-time work and kids, we had moments of overwhelm and uncertainty. ARC -- especially Louise -- handled every question, concern, and even our emotional back-and-forth with grace and understanding. Whether it was guidance on feeding, vaccinations, behavior, or just reassurance during anxious moments, they were always there to help. What stood out most was how deeply they care about the well-being of their dogs. Their priority is clearly to ensure each puppy goes to a safe, loving, and committed home -- and they take that responsibility very seriously. At the same time, they showed empathy toward us as a family trying to do the right thing. Thanks to their support and encouragement, we were able to work through our initial challenges and confidently welcome Rio into our home. We are so grateful for ARC with Love's dedication, transparency, and heart. If you are considering adopting, know that ARC with Love will walk alongside you every step of the way -- with honesty, kindness, and the dog's best interest at heart. Highly recommend!
