My boyfriend and I came here today, we were not disappointed! The staff if very friendly and informative. Tina, our tour guide was extremely pleasant and bubbly! They're not 100% wolves but some have higher percentage then others. I'm not one to complain what their wolf percentage is, we're just happy we got to experience these amazing creatures! Running with the wolves, This place was amazing, you really get more than your money's worth. First and foremost, the staff was Very friendly and knowledgeable. It was a cold day and it started snowing when we got there, they never once rushed anyone during the tour and made sure everyone was happy with their pictures before moving on to the next enclosure. 10/10 for this place, will definitely be going back and bringing more friends and family. read more

This place was a great experience for our entire family. We made an appointment for a visit in February and were able to attend in April. The cost was $20 per adult and $10 per child. Howling Woods Farm in Jackson Township, NJ is an incredible rehabilitation center and rescue for wolf-dogs. These beauties vary in their percentage of dog/wolf and it was such a gift to be able to learn about them and interact with them. Samson, the oldest member of the pack and the alpha, was gentle and graceful, and is enjoying his retirement after being a movie star in his youth- he was in The Sorcerer's Apprentice. We learned that true wolves have amber eyes, bite pressure nearly double that of a pit bull, and can jump a 10 foot tall fence in one bound! Wolf-dogs are legal in NJ, but not in NY or PA, so when people get busted with them in those states, they get euthanized unless a rescue steps in, which is what Howling Woods does. We arrived to our tour appointment about 20 minutes early which was the perfect amount of time to walk around the gift shop and decide on what we wanted to purchase when the tour was over. Colleen, our tour guide, along with all of the other staff members were friendly, informative and just seemed like they enjoyed their jobs. Although the weather took a turn for the worse (for us humans) when the temperature dropped and it started hailing the wolves loved it! The hour in the cold went by quickly but the staff made sure we had ample opportunity to take pictures and savor every moment with these beautiful animals. Amazing learning experience. If you love animals or dogs you should visit. Dog Wolves that are rescued are lucky if sent here to live. Some dog wolves for adoption, which is legal in NJ and NY. Unfortunately, greedy dog breeders sell wolf dogs to anyone. Wolves are not animals that can be domesticated and live in a home even when cross-bred. They need land and high fences and they are outdoor animals. read more

An absolutely amazing experience, will definitely be returning. Highly recommend. My boyfriend and I called about a month in advance to schedule a 12:00 tour for a Sunday. We were given a confirmation email the week of detailing of what was expected (don't wear anything dangling, etc). We were able to meet about 8 different wolves and there were three volunteers with our group. Everyone was very informative and engaging, the staff have wonderful relationships with the wolves. The tour guide was able to tell us the different personalities of each wolf as well as their backgrounds. Some wolves came right up to you and let you pet them, while other wolves preferred not to be touched (the guides will clearly tell you which wolves are more sociable than others). Overall, we were exceptionally happy and have been boasting about our experience to friends and family! read more

Came here over the weekend with a group of 4 people. It's fairly easy to drive to this location but you can easily miss it because the sign on the front lawn isn't very big. My first impression upon arriving was that it's a fairly small compound. Especially when comparing it to Lakota Wolf Preserve. Even after the "tour", I still felt that their compound was too small for the amount of hybrid wolf dogs they have. Cost of entry is $20 and they do accept credit cards. One good thing is that the knowledge they try to convey to you was on par with the Lakota Preserve. Only information I have a contention with was when one of their "wolf dogs' was rubbing himself over the owner. They said that he was trying to hide his scent. While this may be true, I think the possibility of the dog marking is territory is also in the realm of possibility. I think it should have been told in a more theoretical sense. There's no clear evidence that one is more correct than the other. From the look of their wolf dogs, all of them have very low content of wolf in them. Definitely more than 80 or even 90% dog in them. Reason I say that is because they bellied up and even allowed you to pick them up on all fours. I think any self respecting higher content wolf dog (~50%) would not allow you to do that, no matter how much time you've spent with them. The staff were friendlier in person. While waiting, I overheard a conversation with what I presume the caller wanted to inquire about rescuing one. I felt that the lady was quite snappy because she was telling the other caller x, y, z (eg place wasn't big enough without making a proper assessment and saying that it was illegal in his state and he should do his research before calling). I think it could have been handled differently and I don't even think the current place is big enough (could be all subjective). The entire operation seemed a little more persuasive in the financial security of the establishment. They let you know that they have hand made stuff from their fur. If you're waiting outside, they tell you that your friends inside are having "lots of fun" and that you should join them (it just didn't sound sincere). They don't tell you that they make an effort to pick up road kill to feed to their " wolf dogs" (that would cut back on costs, just don't feed them the stomach & intestines). Maybe I am unfairly comparing them to Lakota Preserve but this place didn't feel like a preserve. They do rescue some "wolf dogs" but majority of them are probably just some descendant of a husky and the general public was just scared, assumed it was a "wolf", and thus being labeled incorrectly. If a preserve can survive on $15 admission fee and $5 goes to the campground/state park, this place can definitely survive on $20. Also, they do mention that they get calls from the public to see if they'll rescue a "wolf dog", but at no point do they tell you that they make the effort to find a rescue that has space for that dog. Perhaps all my nit picky details are wrong but you get a feeling/6th sense about this place. Overall, it's a great place if you don't mind paying to get photos taken with well trained dogs. I wouldn't come here to see wolves per say. Definitely go to Lakota Preserve and see those majestic creatures and why you shouldn't take them lightly. I can only recommend this place depending on your agenda/goals. read more

This is a pretty cool spot. The staff are very friendly and passionate about these animals. The "wolves" at the wolf farm technically aren't really wolves however. They're wolfdogs which are exactly what they sound like - a wolf and dog hybrid. That's how they can be domesticated. You walk around the fenced in property with the animals and a tour guide who tells you about them. There are photo opportunities throughout the tour and at the end, they hop up on a platform behind you so you can get your picture taken with them. It's fun and worth doing but it's also kind of a one trick pony. read more

It's hard to overstate how cool the experience of playing with wolf-dogs is. That alone should blow most experiences out of the water. I played with a wolf! To answer the questions I had immediately: the experience isn't at all scary, you really can just walk up and touch a wolf and the wolves pose for photos. That said, there are a few things to know before going. Advertisements for this place don't always say that you need to call ahead to book a tour, but you do, at least officially. We just walked in, and we got put into a tour. Visitors need to sign a waiver. The waiver feels ridiculous. We have no way of knowing whether any of the creatures in the tour are dangerous, other than the word of the people running the show. The whole premise of the experience is that the product offered by Howling Woods is good judgement. If the business is allowed to act negligently, why would anyone go on the tour? Still, I went on the tour, played with the creatures involved, and felt entirely safe. The tour guide said that the waiver isn't because wolves attack people, but because they dig pits that people trip in. There aren't pure wolves on the tour, only animals that were bred as pets and such, some of them almost entirely from wolves. The dogs look pretty diverse, some of them huskies, some of them apparently wolves. The wolves try to steal things from visitors. The tour guide said that they may try to steal glasses. Try to wear contacts or glasses that you aren't too attached to. I kept my sunglasses, but one did get my hat. In the end, I recommend this tour. We had a great time, got great photos, and felt completely safe. read more
