Daniel S. In 2007 Mateen Jafferson custom-built me a Windows XP desktop at a modest price that was a 'perfect price'--because it perfectly met my specific modest needs. Since then I've never taken my computer concerns anywhere but Jafferson Computer. They've dealt in similar fashion with hardware issues and with software issues. Their results are excellent and the price is perfect, because their approach is efficient, and intelligent, and prudent, and because their expertise and experience is deep. Recently they again excelled. They solved several similar but not identical operating-system problems in a pair of wonderful older Asus Windows 10 laptops: the fraternal twins Asus1 and Asus2. They were bought a month apart and are nominally the same exact model--but actually are not. Comparing the slight differences in the responses of the 'twins' helped Luke to analyze and diagnose. This sort of thing is why they're the best. Plus Mateen and Luke and anyone who has worked there are nice people. read more

My laptop crashed in a way that was unrecoverable, so I brought it here after seeing the great reviews. Next time I need a repair, I'll have to try somewhere else because this place is CRAZY expensive. I paid $150 just for them to figure out what the solution was. That fee is not applied to what you pay for the actual repair should you decide to have them fix it like it would at a car repair place; it's just $150 to have them tell you what's wrong. They then quoted me $250 to reinstall windows and fix a broken hinge. I was iffy but said yes partially due to the sunken cost of the diagnosis and mostly because they promised me they would be able to upgrade my laptop to Windows 11, which the laptop had been telling me was not possible. So this seemed somewhat worth it to me to have them do. I went to pick up the fixed laptop, and immediately noticed that they had to drill totally new screw holes into it to install the new hinge. It looks pretty bad, but I'm really not picky about aesthetics so I let it go. But then they started it up to show me it was working, and I cannot even explain how INCREDIBLY slow it was as they tried to use it. Like, Windows 98 was faster than this thing was running, and I had previously never had any speed issues with it. I said something along the lines of how disappointed I was that I had now spent $400 and honestly couldn't even realistically use the laptop anymore. They offered to just install Windows 10 again instead, but like I said, the main reason I decided to pay all that money was because they assured me they could upgrade it to Windows 11. So they ended up refunding me for the repairs (I'm still out the diagnosis fee) and wiped the laptop and gave it back to me. After going home and doing some research on my own, I was able to reinstall Windows 10 on my own in about a half hour for $10. I cannot believe they were going to charge me almost $200 to do that!!! My laptop is now working exactly as it did before, and I learned my lesson. read more

Had my first interaction with Jafferson Computers in past few days, after fear I had viruses and perhaps malware. Mateen Jaffers and his colleague Luke were kind, efficient, honest, pleasant and very professional to deal with. I especially appreciated the way Mateen began by sitting down together, and talking about what I use my laptop for - instead of jumping into fees, selling me something, gloom & doom, etc. as I've experienced before. Fortunately, a cleanup, inspection and new protection took care of my concerns, and I had my laptop back the next day so I could go back to grading papers. I watched them having interactions with 2 other customers while I was sitting there, and observed how everyone was treated well and professionally. The fees were reasonable, and Mateen will become my go-to computer repair site from now on. So glad they were recommended to me! read more

The hard drive on my Windows 11 PC was corrupted by software designed to update my drivers - only it rendered me unable to login and unable to change my PW or passcode! Jafferson Computer Services was able to promptly fix the problem and restore all the data on the drive. They were great! read more

Bought a hdmi cable today, took it home and used it, gave a weak signal or no signal, called to get it return they don't do returns on things that was purchase for 30 minutes and used for 3 minutes. Or actually no returns for any matter. Just 1 star on this. Everything else I have no comment. read more

Jafferson computers is great! Mateen Jaffer told us what needed to be done, how long it would take, and how much it would be. We had an old HP-Envy desktop that wasn't being used. All of a sudden, I needed to use it for some specialized software that could not be run on our MacBook Pros (at least, not without activating Bootcamp). Mateen Jafar took that old PC, put in an SSD, and increased the RAM and got it humming like a well-oiled machine. We could not be more pleased! Nice place, seems to have whatever you need on hand. The staff is happy to assist you with whatever you need. Chatting with them is a breath of fresh air after a visit to Office Max or the like. They are not the cheapest but are reasonable and they are closer to home than hiking out to Madison Heights. They actually can help with issues too (unlike the closer chain places around here). Good for those odds and ends that you do not want to have to wait on by either ordering online or waiting for a weekend trek. They did a minor repair for my husband in a flash and sent him on his way. I know he has also used them at least once for a problem at his place of business too and he was quite happy with them. If he trusts them with a business issue then I know he likes them and I can trust them too. So far I have only gotten things like cables, internet security and a new keyboard but I have been happy too. read more

Would give 6 if I could. My computer died all of a sudden on a Thursday morning. By Saturday, we knew it wasn't going to be fixed by our beginner tricks. We took it there that afternoon to see our options, specifically considering that I had a homework assignment due Sunday at midnight that necessitated having some files from the computer. The employee there, Aaron, was extraordinarily helpful in giving us our options. We ended up choosing to have the necessary files moved to a spare computer we had. He actually stayed late to finish the transfer and allow me to pick it up as they were closed Sunday. I cannot recommend them enough and will be going back when we purchase a new computer to have the original hard drive cloned to the new computer. read more

These guys were great. The hard drive in my fairly new Dell laptop crashed and they were able to salvage the data. But it wasn't that easy and they kept trying and trying with excellent communication and effort. I was then able to stop in and get further assistance with setting up the replacement drive. I received excellent customer service, including quick responsiveness to my initial inquiry, a solid explanation of the computer issue I didn't understand at first, and a very speedy turnaround on the job. The repairs were solid and my laptop feels as good as new. They also informed me of other improvements I might wish to make in the future, and explained my options if I chose to pursue these improvements (including how to do some software enhancements on my own, or what services they could provide if I wasn't comfortable doing them on my own). I did not feel pressured; instead I felt informed about an issue I wasn't aware of and the possibilities to take care of it. My experience here was not perfect. There were 2 different mistakes made, but the customer service in terms of COMMUNICATION and COMMITMENT TO RECTIFYING THE MISTAKES was unparalleled. My 7yo MacBookPro was literally falling apart at the seams, and I was hoping for a "get it running, even if it's ugly" solution. Mateen had just the thing, he explained his fix clearly and concisely, and the price was right. The execution failed on 2 different phases, but Mateen proactively informed me as soon as it happened and rushed replacement parts in, all out of his own pocket. And he helped me rig up an older machine of mine as a temp solution to use while the good one was in the shop. So the net affect was getting my beloved laptop back in action a bit slower (7days +/-) than originally quoted, but the customer service and final price tag were legendary. read more

I worked here for one summer several years ago, during which I witnessed the owner fraudulently conceal an employee's negligence to upsell a customer on an unnecessary repair. To elaborate: I saw an inept co-worker (the owner's nephew) negligently destroy a customer's hard drive (by bending and breaking the drive's molex-connecting power pins), brought in for a virus scan. Mateen (the owner) made no effort to rehabilitate the hard drive, hid his employee's actions from the customer, and lied to him that viruses had ruined the drive. He then sold the customer a new hard drive to replace what my co-worker had destroyed. Avoid at all costs. read more

I requested a full diagnostic of my system as recently some of my hard drives stopped recognizing and my pc wasn't booting properly. We touched on all of the finer points of diagnosis of my machine, as I am moderately capable of talking about whats in my PC. After talking to the owner in detail about my options, we settled on troubleshooting my hardware as well as reorganizing my cables and making sure all internal components were working properly. I mentioned a possible need to upgrade and though I didn't end up seeking it, they were more than capable of undertaking it. My machine came back after only 3 business days and that's after dropping it off on a Saturday. All of my cables were expertly managed, my dust covered components were cleaned, it looked like a brand new computer. Every possible connection was looked at, from a disabled front panel to an unused hot swap bay, to all of my hard drives which initially I couldn't get to work in tandem. Was able to safely override a limitation within my motherboard allowing it to power more components than before, amazing! Resolved a motherboard fan issue, what I thought was dead is now spinning like a top again. Troubleshot my PSU and discovered a dead SATA power connection I had no idea existed. I'd like to add my motherboard has a digital error display that gives numbers and letters referring to issues. This is the first time in years its showing AA which means essentially the motherboard sees ZERO issues! A friendly atmosphere, I was able to express my desire to save some money on various options to which I was shown understanding. It was clear to me that Mateen (the owner) truly wants to do both whats best and whats reasonable for you and your system. As I said, though I know somewhat how to work on a computer, Mateen and Josh were prepared to walk me through anything I didn't understand. They were both very kind overall, in the tech world customers like myself worry about condescension when dealing with complex things like computers, I can assure Jafferson Computers is a very safe space! I would highly recommend them to anyone with PC needs. There isn't anything Mateen and his employee Josh wont be able to solve for you, at a great price, with direct personal contact. You just cant beat that at any large store, of which I guarantee you will pay more for less service and care. Mateen himself called me when my machine was ready for pickup and then walked me through the changes he applied so that he knew I understood. The whole experience was pleasurable overall, please stop by sometime even if you have a simple question these guys will go out of their way to help! read more

Do not trust them again! They told me that my mac pro could be diagnosis free . But when I drive to their store, they told me it will be 110$ to diagnosis!! I ask the guy why he told me it is free for diagnosis, he said I just diagnosis when talk to you. That is free! My god, they just cheat us like that!! read more

I'm a bit late in leaving this review, but I just needed to confirm how great they are here. My computer problem was not huge, just needed laptop keyboard replaced because I splashed some wine on it and it shorted out. They were very professional and helpful, and finished the repair within the stated time. My own diagnostics kept reporting my hard drive was also bad, but the computer seemed to be fine except for an inability to use the keyboard. They ran additional diagnostics and found that nothing was wrong with the hard drive. When I picked it up, they even offered me the old keyboard (just like the auto repair shops used to do in the good old days). The computer has been working fine since then. The price was reasonable, the service excellent and the staff friendly. I would highly recommend using them and definitely will return here if I need something in the future. read more

I took My Totally Broken Laptop to Jafferson Computers.... Just to ask how to remove the hard drive so I can throw the laptop away- and they did what I call WONDERS!!! They advised me that my laptop can be fixed for under $200 - I thought they were Kidding but THEY DID IT!!! My LAPTOP looks Newer Than EVER Before- It didn't even look like this when I first bought it- it's working now at Lightning Speed and the Keyboard was changed along with the fixation of the Screen And I am really HAPPY!!! I went in to ask if he thought he could do anything with a nonresponsive memory stick. He tried it in 3 of his computers but it simply didn't show up on the screen. He explained what seemed to be wrong and the options for repair, none of which would definitely work and all of which could be pretty expensive. He gave me the contact info. for two on-line places that could maybe help. I came in at 5:45 and he stayed to help me until we were done, at 6:15 even though he closed at 6. Recently the hard drive on my wife's laptop failed. I took it to Jafferson Computer on Carpenter Road in Ypsilanti. My diagnosis was confirmed by their tech and they changed the drive. While in the process I requested they update the operating system to Windows 7 and the programs to Office 2010.The store personnel were very helpful in explaining the difference in the levels of software and licensing that MS sells and helping to decide what the best package would be for my situation. After completing the work they went over the major changes of the new OS and the upgraded programs with me. I was so pleased with their approach and their support; I had them upgrade my desktop computer to the new OS and the office suite along with a new video card. The turnaround was ONE DAY! Once I got the machine back home, I had to call a couple of times when I was loading some of my own software and each time I was cheerfully given precise accurate information and directions to resolve my issues. Both machines are preforming very well and we are very pleased with the results. I would recommend the folks at Jafferson to anyone who wants to upgrade their current system or purchase a new system. Jafferson Computers was a place I stumbled upon while looking for a replacement part for my custom built PC. My first experience there was excellent. The staff was very helpful and knowledgeable in assisting me to find the right motherboard. My second experience was after discovering the new motherboard did not fix the problem. I took my PC back to them to run full diagnostics and fix the issue. Overall, I was happy and my computer was returned to me in working order. They were a little on the slow side as it took 3 days to run diagnostics. My only other complaint was the lack of updates on the progress of my computer. I had to call them multiple times to find out what progress had been made. Nonetheless, I would recommend them to others as they know what they are doing and will attempt to fix any computing issue you may have. Thanks to the owner of this shop, I saved on half the cost of repairs. I previously went to two different repair shops and they both diagnosed my problem by telling me that I needed to replace my entire MacBook keyboard. Lucky for me, the last repair shop was unable to order a new keyboard, because "they could not find it available anywhere" and told me to call back after a month. Well I called them again, and they still couldn't find it. By now, I've wasted two months, so I started looking for a new shop. I called Jaffarson Computers, and explained that I needed a new keyboard and asked if he could find one. I was laser focused on that solution. However, the owner listened to my problem and creatively came up with another solution. He explained that I may not need a new keyboard because he could fix specific keys for half the cost. (No one ever offered that solution previously). I allowed the Owner to complete the task and within 24 hours, the problem was fixed. Half the cost and saved me sooo much time. I stumble upon this store on my way to another computer repair shop. The weather was rough so I went to the near repair store. This place left me regretting come in here. My computer did not get repair. After bring my computer to this store I ended up with a virus on the computer. They did not explain the pricing well at all.
