This place serves amazing breakfast, way better than the other cafe joints in Winthrop. I got French toast and a Mexican breakfast burrito. The French toast was great, the burrito was what really shined - probably the best burrito I've ever had. The prices are fair and they give a good quantity of food. read more

Excellent food and value. It was crowded and the line spilled onto the sidewalk but it was worth the wait. Simple food well prepared. Great coffee. This place is a hole in the wall with yummy food at old fashioned prices. read more

Updating my review: place is great and come ALL the time. Very personable staff. Nothing bad to be said.

Very rude woman with blonde hair & French braids,(couldn't get her name) got upset with me & yelled at me because i was asking if i can sub toast for French toast. Then she says you can't sub it you can add it. When on the menu it said sub for a dollar which means adding it. & i was much aware of it. First time here & im so upset... no training for customer service whatsoever. Much nice to the Men that walked in. read more

Food is great but the rude service outweighs anything they do well. Clearly if you're not local they could care less about your experience. A summary of my experience: the woman I ordered from: - Let local go ahead of me. - Had attitude the entire time I ordered. Condescending - Kindly let her know her tone was unacceptable which she said "she's busy" in response. No apology. Just ludicrous! read more

Great small cafe on Crest Ave with the best homemade blueberry muffins. Go early and look for the square shaped blueberry muffins. They are seriously addictive and go well with coffee (hot or iced). This is a very small community, so if you are not a local, the people will look at you like an alien until they see you around more often. It's not based on race. How do I know? My husband & I still have this experience after living here for 13 years. We don't let it get to us because people are very friendly and this is a great place to live. It is fantastic to have a great place for homemade muffins (some varieties) and iced coffee. I hope you will give them a try. read more

I LOVE JAC'S! As does most of the people in Winthrop. I can't believe this place hasn't been reviewed yet! It's not an ice cream place - but a breakfast/lunch place. Opens at 6AM (I believe, it might be 6:30AM), and closes around 3PM. There's a counter where you can order your coffee/tea and breakfast - they have an enormous selection of iced coffee (my favorite being Snickerdoodle), and fresh baked muffins (and they also get a daily shipment of Grandpapa's Yogurt Muffins, which I looooove). Get their french toast - it's seriously the best french toast I've ever had! They have a huge breakfast selection - filled with your standards (eggs, breakfast meats, eggs benedict, etc), and some of their own creations. My favorite is the "Mountain Muffin" - a toasted English muffin with... cream cheese, grilled ham, a fried egg, avocado, and melted cheddar cheese. It's DELICIOUS. When my brother was in town we'd order up plates of french toast and mountain muffins... and sides of bacon. It was AWESOME. Go early during the weekends, as come 10AM everyone has the same idea and the line goes out the door for food. They have only about eight tables, so it's a small place, and it fills up fast. And since it's a "townie" breakfast joint, everyone knows everyone. And it's entertaining to watch. :) But go there every day for a week, and they'll recognize your breakfast order and coffee order soon enough (as they did with me when I was craving them every morning!). They also do smoothies and sandwiches, which I've heard was good... I just can't bring myself to change my breakfast or ice coffee order. Why mess with a good thing if you don't have to? :) read more

Meh. Coffee is really weak. Also... Just a heads up when you brew hot coffee into plastic milk jugs. The amount of dangerous bisphenol A (BPA) that leaches from plastic bottles into the drinks they contain is dangerous and most dependent on the liquid's temperature. In a recent study, when both new and used polycarbonate drinking bottles were exposed to boiling hot water, BPA was released 55 times more rapidly. I'm all set. read more

Based on reviews here, I decided to schedule Jac's as my breakfast place when my redeye landed. As a newbie to Boston, I wasn't sure where this exactly was. It's a little out east of Boston but not terribly so. We drove right past it, as I wasn't expecting such a little place but was rewarded by the great views of the Atlantic coast. We doubled back and was able to find the restaurant. Parking was easy as there was a lot across the street. We got there around 7am, so there was only one table taken with a couple that came in right after us. The owner (I'm guessing it was the owner) was very nice and helped us figure out what to order, she even allowed us to charge up our iPhones while eating (they had ran out of juice trying to navigate around Boston). The whole place is pretty small, but it seemed like many the locals order "to-go", so seating wasn't too much of an issue. You order at the counter and get your drink there and they bring you out your food (hot orders) while you're seated (if eating there). I ordered the mountain muffins with a plain iced coffee and my husband ordered Jac's breakfast burrito with a flavored coffee. Both were excellent. It's the kind of food that makes you feel all warm and fuzzy inside. :) It was the perfect start to our long weekend and we'll definitely go again the next time we're out there! BTW, we met a couple of really nice cops that gave us some suggestions on sites to visit while out there. They, along with the owners, got a kick out of the fact that we found them on yelp. ;) read more

Very disappointed. Ordered a Mexican burrito, got what looks like a scramble, there was nothing wrapped in a tortilla. Never heard of a breakfast burrito without a tortilla. We also ordered wheat bread for an omelette, and got a different type of bread. Did carry out so didn't realize until we got the food home. read more

I've lived downt he street for 5 years and JUST getting here now? Why am I so slow with everything...anyways, Jac's is one of the few go to breakfast places here in Winthrop, a little more expensive than Hi Tide (and I mean very little). I can see it being a problem if you want to sit down and eat in here during the morning weekend hours as the space is tiny but they also do take out, which is what I did. I got the eggs benedict, pretty simple, $6 and was delicious. Although, my only 'complaint' is that when you have breakfast, you really should include a side of something, such as home fries or whatever, but either way the eggs where perfectly cooked and the hollandaise was amaahhhzing. Parking is ample, on the street or in the lot across the street. Hope to be back again soon! read more

Had a late flight which meant we slept in past our hotel offered breakfast time. So we did a search for good places near us and saw Jacs a couple of miles away. Oh man I cant tell you how happy we are that we missed our hotel breakfast. This place knows how to do breakfast! Very reasonable prices and the portions are large. The half order of French toast is massive and will fill up most any person. I highly recommend this place to out of towners! read more

Delicious breakfast. The pancake selection is expansive and the best in town. Sizzling Skillet is great. The Steak and Egg Grinder is wonderful. The breakfast pizza is the best in the world. This place is a show stopper. read more

This was a neat little place. Good sandwiches. They had a Reuben, and I haven't had one in a long time. You can definitely mess up a Reuben, but this looked like the kind of place that would do it right. And oh, it was. My boss and I decided to get the same thing, Reubens with chocolate milk, which ended up being a really good combination. We'll call it the William Pierce Combo from now on. Next time I'm in Winthrop and I'm achin' for some good sandwiches, I'll come back and try their Monte Cristo, which also looked pretty dang fantastic. read more

This place is great !!! Been coming here for 4 years now. Best French toast ever !!!!

There have been so many amazing things in the space that is currently Jac's Cafe. The most popular being an omg-amazing ice cream shop that only closed because the owners moved. With that in mind, Jac's is the only place that has ever stayed open in that spot since because they're the only place that can measure up. I have never had a bad coffee, muffin, bagel, sandwich, wrap... ever. Personally my favorite wraps are the Guacamole BLT, Mexican Chicken and Thai Chicken. Nom nom nom. They have a ridiculous amount of coffee flavors but if you don't get there early enough they usually run out, especially the iced coffee. I love Jac's for exactly what it is: fresh, local, a perfect example of the adorable little town I call home. read more

Loved it! We were only in town for a couple hours and needed some breakfast. Found this place pretty close to Logan and decided to give it a try. Prices were very fair ($6.50 for 2 eggs two meets potatoes and pancakes). Food came pretty quick and the staff was very friendly. Definitely recommend it!! read more

this just happened to me at jacs cafe in winthrop, ma. calling in a phone order......how unprofessional and not customer friendly with a "nasty attitude"....very surprised!!!...been frequenting this hidden gem for over 10+ years, never had any issues, service with a smile..up until today!!!....i called to place a breakfast order at 12:01pm and was told only serving lunch...guess i missed breakfast by 1 minute......so i called back to place a lunch order...my order was going to be for a hot pastrami sandwich, and a reuben sandwich, and other items...from previous order experiences, they wrap the 2 sandwiches in aluminum foil and white paper...well as a result of the hot steam , the bread of each sandwich will get very squished, very wet, and very soggy, ruining the fresh bread and the sandwich...so, today i asked if they could not wrap my sandwiches and put them in a container and explained the reason for my request...he said "no" that's how i do it!!!...do you want them or not???......he then said it cost him money for the container.....i then said how much....i will pay for the container......he then replied "no"!!!......he would not let me pay for my container to accomodate my simple request, and, refused to give me the 2 sandwiches unless i wanted them wrapped his way, with wet....soggy...and squished bread!!!!....wth????......smdh???? read more

I cannot even count the number of times I've gotten food from here in the 5+ years I've lived in Winthrop, at least well over a hundred. For someone unfamiliar to the area looking for a quick breakfast, the place could be easily mistaken for some kind of ice cream shop. Don't let the outside fool you though, the heart of this place is coffee and breakfast. They do offer lunch options, but if I've honestly never tried it. Starting with the coffee. Be prepared to take some time deciding which of the numerous flavors of hot or iced coffee you would like to try. My personal favorite is the French Toast iced coffee, very very delicious. As for the food, you really can't go wrong. Most weekday mornings when I get takeout, I grab a breakfast burrito or a bacon egg and cheese. The Jacs burrito is very tasty and very popular. When I go on weekends I tend to order a little more, either the French Toast or the corn beef and hash breakfast. Both are excellent choices. While I usually get takeout, the place manages to offer a lot of seating for such a small building. For takeout, I highly recommend calling in your order first, especially on the weekend. The place fills up pretty quickly, which is only a testament to how good it is. Just make sure to bring cash, no cards accepted. read more

It really bums me out to leave this review. I absolutely love the food here and prices are comparatively good but for months they haven't answered the phones for pick up orders. I moved 3 cities away and still willing to make the trek zero problems but they just don't answer the phones on weekends at least. read more

This place is awesome! The service is friendly, food is tasty and prices are super reasonable. We had the French toast($4.95 for three large delicious pieces) and eggs Benedict($5.95). We also tried the banana-hazelnut and the snickerdoodle iced coffees(around $2)-I recommend the snickerdoodle! Everything we had tasted great and the service was some of the best we had in Boston. If you're in the area, definitely try this place! read more

Jac's Cafe - Amazing French toast for only $5! - Breakfast & Brunch Near Me - Winthrop, Massachusetts

My fav go to breakfast coffee spot drive all the way from Woburn on the weekends to grab some food and coffee

Winthrop has had a number of breakfast spots over the years and most of them are still thriving. Jac's trumps all of these spots. Relatively new on the scene, Jac's provides a number of quality options for breakfast and they also have great iced coffee. On top of this, they have a great lunch menu as well. The only negative about Jac's is the seating. It is a tiny space so there are definitely times where you walk in and you have no option but to order something to go because every table is full. Other than that, Jac's is almost perfect. read more

First time visiting Mass. and decided to check out Jac's for coffee and breakfast after reading reviews. I can say this place has some of the best tasting coffee I've ever had out at a restaurant/bakery. It's rich and medium bodied with a freshly roasted flavor which was greatly enjoyed. For breakfast I had the super breakfast with ham and bacon. For 6.95 I don't think this plate can be beaten anywhere, especially in my home state of New Jersey. Ham was honey glazed and bacon was crisp and juicy. Would definitely return if I'm ever in the area again. Thanks Jac's! read more

Great place for breakfast. It is a small family run neighborhood place that the staff knows every customer's name. There is always a long line for coffee in the morning. Me and my family go there almost everyday. We absolutely love this place, and they always say hi and know us by name. Matt is one of nicest people ever. He's there everyday busting his ass. Everyone is great. The food is awesome. Never a complaint, so I don't know what Valerie is talking about. If you SPECIFY what you get, they would never mess it up, especially if you get that a lot. 5 stars all day, everyday. read more

Ventured out of our hotel in search of coffee and found this place. Coffee was delicious but the Apple Cranberry muffin is insanely good! It is indescribably good! Their other muffins looked great, too. Will definitely be back to try their other yummies! read more

I'd give this place 5 stars, but to be honest, I haven't eaten anything from here aside from the Jac's with bacon and a juice. From what I have seen, it's your basic breakfast/lunch place. It's smallish, but big enough to have about nine or ten 2-person tables to sit at. Their menu includes much of what you'd expect, but they also offer a wide range of smoothies. Like I already mentioned, I get the Jac's with bacon. It's a decent-sized breakfast burrito with the basics, scrambled eggs, potatoes, cheese and bacon. I would imagine that's pretty hard to screw up, but I really like it here, so there you have it. read more

Good prices for the quality of food. I've had the breakfast burrito and a breakfast sandwich, which were both really good. The iced coffees are good as well. My boyfriend also got a western breakfast burrito one time and he said it was a really good value. Small place and it can get crowded very quickly. It's cash only, which isn't terrible, just wish they'd catch up to todays technology. They tell you that there is an ATM next door, but I personally would rather not pay the fees for that. Friendly staff and for the most part the service is fast as well. It is a very small place, so if you go on a busy day and take your order to go, there is no where to stand and wait for your order. Tables are close to the register and counter and door, and the times I've gone there is a line out the door, so it gets kind of awkward finding a place to stand and wait till your order is complete. It's probably best to call ahead if you're going to take your food to go. read more
