Making my way to the airport, I wanted to find a place that way slightly closer but not somewhere I have gone before. Parking is easy since there was free street parking close by. The cafe is a smaller locally owned establishment and very well clearly a fan favorite. On a Sunday morning, almost every booth and seat was occupied. The menu features many of the breakfast fan favorites like omelettes, pancakes, and more. Venturing from my usual eggs benedict, I decided to get their chorizo breakfast burrtio. The chorizo was salty and the eggs were cheesy but I think seeing everyone else's dishes, this is certainly not their house favorite. BUT, my family loved their Morning Star breakfast, Irish eggs benedict, bacon egg & cheese omelette, Hungry Man Special, and corn beef hash. Peep my pictures to truly appreciate that they taste like how they look! From enjoying my breakfast burrito to trying some of my family's dishes, we were all more than happy with our wholesome and authentically American breakfast. The staff were so kind and an honorable mention has to be made for their wall full of acknowledged Winthrop Veterans. We went there for breakfast today and had to wait in a long line to order. The food was good, but the person taking orders was extremely rude and disrespectful. Update: I reviewed these people and Gave them high praise for what I thought was the perfect BLT sub hoping and asking for it not to be a fluke. After ordering from them two more times I am sorry to say it was a fluke. The first of the two repeat orders they used romaine lettuce very little Mayo and the bacon was so hard you could pick a lock with it. This second of the two repeat orders is pictured... they went back to shredded iceberg but the bread was so stale and hard it felt like they meant to do that. I mean how in the hell do you put a sub roll that hard stale and crumbly into a take out box and fill it with ingredients and not know you are sending out a piece of crap? Service and food was very good. There was a couple that questioned their bill as I walked in. They were charged 50 cents extra for sour dough bread. The menu stated something like your choice of bread. Than $2.00 for beef hash when the menu stated $1.50. Also $2.00 extra for provolone cheese in a omelet. My favorite place. I drive 4 miles to come here once a week for breakfast on my day off, and don't think I didn't do my research first! I love a good diner breakfast and when I moved to East Boston I decided I'd try a different local diner each week until I found my spot. I was kind of surprised at how many mediocre places there are and I was beginning to doubt East Boston's commitment to a great breakfast... this may be because The Winthrop Center Cafe doesn't come up on Apple Maps when you search "Diner" (I think "Breakfast cafe" is what did the trick - like I said, I did my research). Anyway as mentioned above, I found my spot. The food is excellent, the man behind the counter who I assume is the owner is always super friendly and you can tell that he's got plenty of regulars by the amount of carry out customers that call him by name. The ambiance of the place is pretty unassuming. You've got your New England-mandatory portrait of JFK at Cape Cod and usually a handful of friendly seniors getting together for coffee & eggs. Ultimately it's function over fashion which is exactly how I like it. As for the food, their breakfast special is always done just right and it comes with some of the best hash browns I've ever had. They have a Brazilian menu insert tucked into the standard menu and some other unique options like "one bite sandwiches" but don't go too crazy with the menu like some of those places that offer too many things at pretty good quality instead of a few great options. We don't typically get breakfast out, but we had family in town and wanted to pick up breakfast before a day out and was surprised at how good this place was. I got a bacon egg and cheese on an English muffin with home fries and it was the best one I've ever had. The egg was cooked perfectly, bacon was crispy, and the cheese was melted. Cute little cafe with great breakfast options and very friendly staff. It's very nice they honor military vets and it's nice to see them get together in the morning which seems like they been going to this place their whole life. Quaint little cafe/diner in the heart of Winthrop. Made a stop here for breakfast on Saturday last month and ordered their Irish Pride Special, which is a take on eggs benedict in honor of St. Patrick's Day. The eggs were poached perfectly, with the yolk oozing out over the sauce and corned beef hash nicely, and it helped cut the saltiness of the hash. Very tasty dish, and the side of vegetables served with the eggs were good to help cut the richness of the eggs over the hash. Service was friendly and very attentive. Five stars in all regards: the food, the staff, the regulars and the atmosphere. I usually stop in for breakfast and a fat iced coffee. Food is always hot and served quickly.
