We popped in for a pastry on a recommendation, out of towners not knowing the area or who makes a great croissant. Very cute little cafe, with a friendly and welcoming staff. The pastry case makes it very hard to pick something so we went with an apple turnover and a chocolate croissant. We were not disappointed, I gobbled the chocolate croissant and only permitted my husband one smallish bite. A smidge pricey, but what isn't these days. Cute Bakery that I was told had great eclairs. I ordered one chocolate, plus a cappuccino and an egg, ham, and cheese croissant. For me, I wasn't a fan of the eclair. The inside was a firmer chocolate and not the normal pudding type consistency I was looking for. But the cappuccino was spot on and the egg, ham, and cheese croissant was both huge and amazing. One of my friends recommended this bakery to me. It is located downtown Melbourne, there is street parking out front or there is a parking lot nearby. Their ice cream was so delicious, it really hit the spot. The almond croissant is delicious but it isn't always consistent, sometimes it is more baked than others - still delicious. They also have macarons, cake slices, fruit tarts, cookies, and other bakery items. There are coffee and tea options but I come for the bakery. There is seating inside and it has been fairly quiet every time I've gone in. The staff has always been attentive and helpful when I've gone in, very nice too. I've been a loyal customer to Jacqueline's over the years, having visited more regularly this past few months. The quality differs with who's manning the counter. Yesterday morning we ordered a continental breakfast and it was great. Only thing I would change is crisping up the croissant by heating in an oven for a few minutes. Although it states they are freshly baked each day, while really good in taste, it wasn't flakey. This morning I asked for my croissant au chocolat to be heated. It was microwaved instead, which ruined it, also the baguette which made it chewy and hard. Please train your counter help to be consistent. read more

It was my first time visiting this store and my last I was very excited to try the coffee and all the desserts they offered because the place looks nice. The girls that are in the store have zero courtesy and do not promote good customer service, they do not greet when customers come in and they do not even have the courtesy to offer the products they sell or even recommend any products. They were always standing next to each other chatting. The only thing I found funny was the beret hat that one of them was wearing. I started by ordering one (1) iced coffee and one (1) eclair and then the lady charged me for two (2) coffees. Wanting to not be upset at first and support the locals in the area, I decided to keep the two coffees and pay them. I also gave them some tip, having in mind that they don't serve you in the table. This was a to go order. The first sip of coffee tasted burnt. Worst iced coffee I have ever had in my life. When I went to the girl to tell her, she did not even offer to change it. The sweet eclair was not fresh... you usually know this because these products are not hard but soft to the bite and even the filling was fermented. It is sad that such a nice place has such low quality, from customer service to the products they sell. read more

We had a nice afternoon break at Jacqueline's Bakery and Cafe in Melbourne. The iced latte with oat milk was just right and the atmosphere pleasant with books and magazines to thumb through while sipping. The space is roomy with plenty of seating, very clean and right in the heart of historic Melbourne so while rambling around the town, a nice place to pop in. I was surprised to see them warm up my quiche in the microwave - was hoping for a more professional oven warming up I guess. The did a nice job caramelizing the top of the creme brûlée. Parking is pretty tough in DT, so I advise searching in side streets and walking instead. Interior is pretty traditional, clean, and brightly-lit. Staffed by local youths who are doing their best. Of the goodies we chose, I was a huge fan of their eclairs and cakes-- delightfully fluffy and lightly sweet. Went to this bakery on a day my favorite bakery was closed to try to still get my macarons for the week. Ordered a 6 pack for $18.00 a fruit tart and a one scoop cup of vanilla ice cream. Ice cream was great as they don't make it but for the tart it was flavorless and soggy. The macarons it self were the worst things by far, they claim they make them fresh every 2 days, taste tells otherwise. The macaron shells itself were brittle and fell apart almost instantly, they were extremely tasteless as I got 3 coconut cremes one blueberry muffin a vanilla and chocolate, could not differentiate flavors at all even chocolate which is really hard to mess up but somehow they did? I was in a mess with this bakery for 3 days trying to get a refund and was told maybe some of them were bad not all (they were all the same and terribly made I'm sure whoever made them just started learning how to make macarons) they were all bad. I was told maybe I had a cold and couldn't taste (hilarious) I in fact did not have a cold. I was given a million reasons as to why it was my fault I didn't like them and it was all preference when Macarons have a distinct texture and should have a specific flavor profile to what it is called! (Chocolate should taste like chocolate!!!) I was basically told it's your fault and you're not getting a refund. And that was my first impression of this bakery, it was empty as well when I entered on a busy Sunday that should been my first red flag to this place! Never coming here again and you shouldn't either! Save your money if you want quality macarons and visit la macaron French bakery down the block from this place it's 10x better and they treat their customers with respect aswell! read more

Amazing bakery in New Haven Ave in downtown Melbourne. They have a tons of option to choose for breakfast or desserts. Went there in the evening to grab some baked goods. Got some baguettes for next morning along with some pastries to eat right away. The baguettes were fresh and delicious, we almost finish one on the walk back to our stay. For the pastries, we got some small meringues and an almond tart which were tasty. Overall, great bakery for fresh pastries and bread. Will definitely come back to grab more baguettes. read more

In a word disappointing. The staff was unfriendly and inattentive. We sat outside on the sidewalk as my small dog was not welcome indoors (not a critique item as this in common). The black coffee was acceptable but the lattes left something to be desired. The pastries were edible but the kids left half eaten apple turnovers and croissants on their plates. For breakfast items we ordered a ham, Swiss and tomato omelette and a ham and cheese quiche. The omelette had enough tomatoes to make it a soup and was undercooked. The quiche, which was abandoned in the microwave until we went back in and reminded the staff about it, went in the dumpster after only one bite. And was actually passed up by a homeless man who took a half drunk coffee and the pastry scraps from the trash bin. Don't waste your money! read more

This is an authentic French bakery and almost everything here is excellent. I used to come here far too often spending too much money since I can't resist getting all my favorites here. I particularly love their palmier cookies, heart-shaped chocolate cake, creme brûlée, Paris Brest and macaroons. I prefer the black currant macaroons, if they have them. They usually run out of many rotating macaroon flavors towards the end of the week and make new ones on Tuesdays, which are put out later that day or evening. Their quiche Lorraine is very good IF you stop them from microwaving it! They should know better than to ruin French pastry in a microwave! I insist that they put it in the oven to heat it up. And then make sure they leave it in long enough. They have young people working at the counter, that think an oven should warm items up quickly like a microwave oven! The owner should train them differently. I love their ham and cheese croissant heated up crispy in their oven with a side of mayo and Dijon mustard. But they clean up their sandwich station and cut their oven off at 7 pm, even though they don't close until 8:30. So, you won't be able to order a sandwich or anything heated in the oven after 7! I often don't like to eat until after 7, so they lose a lot of potential sales from me. I also don't come here as often anymore because once I bought quite a few items; one of them was an older piece of carrot cake; they refused to give me a slice from the fresh cake being put out. When I tried to eat part of it later, it was stale and the precut sides were stiff. I could tell that even if it would have been fresh, I do not like their recipe; they should make a far better version. I went back to return it and they refused to refund the money or exchange it towards something else and said that I would have to email the owner! I did email the owner with the details, which was a waste of my time in addition to my money, since she values her once steady customers so little, that she won't even respond to your valid complaint! This is outrageously stupid since I used to regularly spend $30-$50 at a time in there, or more occasionally. I considered never going back, but it's hard to not get an occasional fix of what is so good from there. If this incident had not occurred I might have given them 5 stars. read more

Just before heading to the car after taking a stroll around the historic downtown area of Melbourne we decided to pop into Jacqueline's and see what was on the menu. There were plenty of tables to sit and enjoy a cup of coffee or enjoy a lite lunch. They had two pastry case filled with french pastries, quiche and macarons as well as an ice cream counter. I, like usual, was wanting a coffee so I opted for a caramel macchiato and a chocolate truffle cake to accompany it. The bestie decided to try a few of the macarons. The employees were efficient and prepared our orders, helpful but not overly friendly. However my coffee more than made up for it. Hot and full of flavor. I saved my cake for later but when I did indulge it was rich and extremely flavorful. However I am not sure it was worth its $7.50 price tag. The bestie shared his macarons which normally I would fan girl over, but I sadly was not a fan of their fillings. There was something not quite right to me, especially when we tried the first one and it was cold. If I am in the area in the future I would like to try a crossaint or the quiche. This is another restaurant on my list of places to visit on my way to south florida. We actually tried to go someplace else first but they were closed to we ended up here. They have ice cream here. It is not homemade. This is a cute looking restaurant in a old timey downtown area. Walking in is sort of like entering a Kilwins. They have an area by the door where they are baking and preparing food. Then they have the counter with pastries. They also have a giant whisk with a key attached to it that you use to get into the bathroom. The pastries we had were pretty good. The only one I didn't really like was the chocolate crinkle cookie. It was to hard. Crinkle cookies to me should be soft not hard. My favorite item was a chocolate chip cookie. It was hard on the outside and soft on the inside. Everyone else with me enjoyed their food. A lot of the pastries were rather expensive. The restaurant was clean and the employees were all friendly. read more

Last year, I got to travel to Europe. During my time there, I was able to try out authentic French food which of course includes the desserts. Since then, I have always compared the European-inspired foods I eat here to the food in Europe which includes French food. I have to say that Jacqueline's Bakery & Cafe is very close to authentic. Located in the heart of Historic Downtown Melbourne, Jacqueline's Bakery & Cafe (I will just shorthand it to Jacqueline's throughout the rest of the review) is right across from the 905 Cafe or about 50 feet east from Meg O' Malley's. You can see the bakery and cafe from the outside as the front is primarily glass windows. Upon entering the cafe seating area is on the right and the bakery is on the left. Overall decor is that of a upscale bakery you'd find in Paris, France. Once again, I must stress that the bakery goods in Jacqueline's are close enough to authentic. I will not say 100 percent authentic as factors like weather and how ingredients are grown and used are accounted for, but they do their best with what is offered. The authenticity also affects the price in which you'll be paying over $10 for a decent number of bakery goods or for particular items such as cakes. You'll also know the bakery goods are made from scratch as the mixing and baking is done right in front of customers, kind of like a show of sorts similar to what you'll see at some "French Quarter" bakeries in Disney World. I personally like you can watch because I find baking tips and tricks in observing being a former baker and wedding cake decorator for Publix. Ultimately, a great place to get yourself a dessert, coffee, and even gelato. Probably a good place for a first date thought not as good for a group meeting. Still, I go in every now and then to get something sweet when I have money to splurge. read more

There are so many reasons for which I love Melbourne and this is one of them! Located in the historic district, this is a must - go - to bakery when you're in town. We walked in and immediately I could hear the employees conversing in French, and something told me: "This is the real deal right here." The bread was incredible! I ate almost an entire baguette with butter by myself, seriously; it was that good. I cannot even remember the last time that happened, I just couldn't stop! I also split a chocolate-almond croissant with one of my friends and we were both amazed yet again at how amazing all the baked goods here taste.
