**INITIAL REVIEW** Firstly, I have indulged in Whit's Frozen Custard multiple times on different occassions, with the last time being at Grace Community Church in West Melbourne, FL during one of their special Sunday events. This is probably the first time - that I can remember - I ate frozen custard directly from their brick-and-mortar store located in Historic Downtown Melbourne. So was Whit's Frozen Custard, at least the locale in Historic Downtown Melbourne, a yay or a nay? Frozen custard-wise, it is a yay, but in general, it is not necessarily a nay, but more an observation that can make or break a patron's view of wanting to go to Whit's Frozen Custard (which I will shorthand simply to Whit's for the remainder of this review) or somewhere else. Even though an address is provided, Whit's is located in the East side of Historic Downtown Melbourne, in between Crush XI and Constant Pressure Tattoo Shop. I must stress that Whit's is probably not handicap accessible as the only way in and out has four steps. Inside is quite minimalistic with its overuse of the color white (which kinda fits with their name) and stainless steel, but it fits their theme. The seating is also minimalistic, but it is assumed most people will take their custard and walk with it around and about downtown. Whit's also has numerous flavors pre-packaged for sale, but their flavors they have ready-to-serve is minimal. You can choose either vanilla, chocolate, or the flavor of the day. Today when I went, the two flavors for Sunday was peach and Heath bar. I had two scoops of peach were a nice amount of frozen custard to eat for like $6. Not bad for the price they provide. Given the information above, this is either a yay or nay compared to other frozen custard places. Other places have more options, but they are not necessarily top tier across the board. Other places may be less in price, but the amount of frozen custard you get will be less than the price you pay with Whit's. Like I said, these are not criticisms, but more like personal observations that cater to one's preferences. With that in mind, I am going to give Whit's three out of five stars. They are a-okay with what they have and what they have is delicious, but depending on my mood, I will either go to them... or not. Now if they are consistent with this setup, I will definitely give them an extra star for said consistency. But right now, they are three stars meaning they are a-okay. read more

Friendly group of people was delighted. The flavor of the weekend was Red Velvet and it was absolutely delectable. The ice cream was thoroughly creamy and delighting. The softness of the cake mixed with the creamy of the homemade ice cream made for an absolute ravishing dessert. The servers were very friendly as well. All in all good ice cream. read more

The frozen custard at this Downtown Melbourne location is good. I have been to this place many times with my kids and finally, after another experience exactly like my others, I wanted to write a review. The location is very clean and well appointed, clearly the owners take great pride in their store. Unfortunately the service at Whits from the same young person has been consistently bad. You get the distinct feeling that she is annoyed by your presence and has never, in all our visits, cracked a smile. It's an ice cream shop, it should have a light and fun atmosphere but you feel like your presence is an absolute annoyance. I have tried making conversation and even a joke to lighten to mood with this individual who we have encountered many times, but the same grim looks are given back. Recently we went to a concert nearby and came by at 9:50. The door was locked and I saw her, pointed at my watch, and she nodded no and looked down. If a place closed at 10, why are we turned away? We only really continue to go there because it's the only ice cream place with good ice cream in that area. But it's getting hard to go and spend our money with such poor service. Owners, focus on training and creating customer service processes that can be followed consistently. read more

My family and I went on Friday night. We were excited to treat the custard. The custard did not disappoint. However when we got there all the tables and chairs were picked up. I asked if they were opened and they said yes there was 45 min prior to closing. The staff was not very friendly but they did their job. They had run out of vanilla custard and they offered to make it in order for everyone in the party to have some which was nice. However their niceness would not last long. While we were standing around eating our custard because the chairs and tables were not available because they were picked up. The obviously didn't want us to sit. Half hour before they were going to close they shut off the lights to let us know they wanted us to go. They wanted us out. It was extremely rude. I would recommend this place but the staff is rude. I had an equivalent to a blizzard/concrete and a couple who were regulars recommended we get a pint also. Super glad we did because my wife 'who didn't want anything' demolished my concrete ! Luckily I had the churro pint to save the day! read more

Wow, Very Excellent ice cream, I mean way better than " DQ', me and my were totally amazed by the very big selections of flavored ice crream, it's just great, I'm going to make it a point to return. We're visiting from San Diego and the closest we have is 'Cold Stone' and Whit's is Way Better. Staff are friendly and so helpful to get you a good service and selection. read more

Just went down there on my break from work. Nice calming atmosphere and having daily changing flavors is such a great idea. I got the salted caramel and it did not disappoint at all! Very good and will go back to treat my family very soon. Lady behind the counter could work on her customer service skills by showing some kind of enthusiasm but it's not going to stop me from coming back. Highly recommend. read more
