*** PLEASE READ ~ DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH Jacobsen Trailer ***
Aluma Trailer Corporation should know how customers are being treated by companies that carry your product and represent your company. I can appreciate the costs running a business, however, a business without satisfied customers is not a business for long. Word of mouth, BBB, Consumer Affairs, Yelp, Facebook and Twitter have a phenomenal effect.
We spent several months comparing trailers and decided to purchase an Aluma UT-12 trailer. The design (loading ramp) was perfect for our needs. Jacobsen Trailers was the closest dealer that had the trailer in stock.
March 3, 2016 I drove 3 hours (one way) to Jacbosen Trailers in Fowler, CA. I specifically asked Matthew (Sales Rep) to check the trailer thoroughly BEFORE he made the 6 hour roundtrip. The condition of the trailer was discussed in prior phone conversations and emails including photos. Matthew assured me that he personally examined the trailer and everything was in working order and it would be ready to go when Brian arrived March 3rd; it wasn't!
I had several phone conversations and emails with Matthew and made it clear he would be at Jacobsen Trailers Thursday March 3rd around 11:00AM. That morning Matthew called me to verify that I was on my way; I was. When I arrived Matthew said "The guys are washing up the trailer now for you". The trailer should have been completely ready to go prior to my arrival. Matthew knew I was on his way. Matthew actually had two full days to inspect, wash and get the trailer ready, he didn't!
When I arrived and inspected the trailer he discovered the loading ramp was defective and would not budge. Further investigation revealed the loading ramp had a manufacture defect.
I was referred to the District Representative for Aluma Trailers, Mark. He was completely unprofessional and very sarcastic. After hearing that I drove over 200 miles (3 hours) ONE WAY to purchase the Aluma UT 12 trailer only to discover there was a manufacture defect, Mark didn't care! I asked if Mark would lower the cost of the trailer to compensate for the wasted trip and an additional trip roundtrip once the trailer was repaired to pick it up. Mark said NO! Mark was unwilling to work out any kind of solution.
On top of that, Mark would NOT overnight the parts. Mark acknowledged it was a manufacture defect and said he would "drop ship" the parts needed and they would arrive at Jacobsen trailer Friday, March 11th over a week later! The trailer would then need to be repaired.
On March 16th we received an email from Jacobsen Trailers stating the trailer was ready to be picked up. What ever happened to customer service? The salesmen or owner can't pick up the phone and call? NOPE - they email = LAZY!
To make matters worse Jacobsen Trailer and Mark expected Brian to make ANOTHER roundtrip to Jacobson trailer, for a grand total of 12 HOURS, 800 MILES and 2 DAYS and Jacobsen Trailer only offered me $100 off the trailer price. That won't even cover the fuel or wear and tear on our vehicle.
It's beyond my comprehension that anyone would conduct business this way.
Matthew at Jacobsen Trailers should have owned up to his enormous mistake by not thoroughly inspecting the trailer, he did not! The owner of Jacobsen Trailers, Chris Ambrose should have and could have made this right, he did not! The entire incident was unacceptable!
It's critical for a business to employ men with a moral character.
March 30th Wyatt with Trailer Specialist called and let me know the trailer was in. I picked the trailer up on March 31st. It took 28 days to finally get the trailer I wanted.
