Bread is medium soft on the inside but slightly crumbly / crackly on the outside. Not tough like sourdough but not mushy like wonder bread. The artichokes in the middle of the bread were just a tad bit soggy but tasted good The bread itself is not super flavorful but pairs really well and is great as sandwich material

Pescadero Local: "No, no no.... you have to get a sandwich! They toast their garlic herb bread and with the melty cheese...BEST sandwich ever!" Said Sandwich ($14.95): https://tinyurl.com/4zbnrr5k IDK whether to laugh or cry - the pic of the "hot pastrami" sandwich speaks for itself. After several bites, we tossed it. OK, their famous Garlic Herb Artichoke Bread ($9.99 x2) has to be bomb, right? A few on socials say it's the "Best Bread in the World". They even have a placard highlighting their feature on "The Best Road Trip Food Stops" (FoodNetwork.com). With all the mad hype, it was sorely disappointing...even tearing into it fresh out of the oven and still warm. Lightly crisp crust with a fluffy soft interior like French bread that was surprisingly flavorless. It was studded with a few pieces of artichoke...some tender, others stringy...but noticeably less than what I've seen in other pics/reels/TT. And if "garlic" is in the name, I want my breath humming into the next day! Other than the dusting of garlic powder on top, the garlic itself and garlic flavor was MIA. Some may say I should've bought one of their creamy dips to go with it...IMHO, good bread shouldn't need a supporting actress to steal the show. I know Arcangeli Grocery is a beloved Pescadero institution and I may get hate for giving it anything less than 4-5 star but based on this visit, I don't get the hype and felt like I wasted nearly $40. =T

A Hidden Gem at a Gas Station! Don't let the location fool…read moreyou, this place serves up some of the freshest and most flavorful Mexican food in the area! We took a spur-of-the-moment day trip to Pescadero Beach with the kids this past long weekend. Usually, I pack sandwiches for beach days, but since we got a late start, we ended up looking for local spots to grab a quick bite. Amigos popped up with great reviews, and it absolutely lived up to the hype. We ordered the fish tacos and shrimp tostada for ourselves, and both were super fresh and delicious. For the kids, we got the chicken quesadilla and fries, which were a huge hit. Beyond the main dishes, the condiments really elevate the meal, the spicy habanero sauce is fantastic if you like real heat, and the pickled serranos with onions and carrots are addictively good. They have a surprisingly great outdoor seating area where you can sit back and enjoy your meal in the fresh air. Just keep in mind that it is cash only, so plan ahead before you pull up. If you're spending the day near Pescadero or passing through the area, this spot is a must visit!

Taqueria De Amigos was not a friend to my stomach that day…read more Booty bubbles like Taco Bell...if you know what I mean. It just didn't agree with me and has no effect on my rating. Located inside a gas station convenience store, Taqueria De Amigos seemed so promising with offal on the menu and a full salsa bar including escabeche and crema. There's only two eateries in Pescadero open on weekdays after 3 pm and this is one of them. FYI, while they say, they accept credit cards with a $20 minimum, their CC reader is turned off (or broken?) so have cash ready. They have an ATM on site but another customer had issues with it. There's about 4 booths inside and ample seating in their back patio with self-serve water. F O O D Tacos are served on a double warmed corn tortilla and topped with salsa roja, cilantro, and onions. * Taco de Lengua ($3.99 x3) My litmus test for taquerias, the lengua texture was perfect - cut into chunky pieces and meltingly tender but had an off-putting barnyard funk like it wasn't properly cleaned. Also, it seemed like it was simmered in plain water, leaving nothing to mask the funk. * Taco de Carne Asada ($3.99 x2) Whoever sliced the asada has mad skills! I've never seen asada so evenly and finely diced before. While it had some char, it was dry, bland, and tepid. * Taco de Pescado ($4.99 x2) Lots of rave reviews for this - fish was soft and flaky but like the other proteins, it was bland. The accompanying salsa roja was just there and it was the salsa verde that ultimately did the heavy lifting. * Taco de Quesabirria ($5.99 x2) Massive portion of birria but flavorless and stringy in texture. Could have used more time on the flat top to crisp up the tortilla and melt the cheese. * "Carnitas" Burrito ($14.99) We bought this to eat for dinner later. Unfortunately, they gave us asada instead. Just a dry, underwhelming burrito that needed to be drowned in salsa. S E R V I C E Hella fast service - food was delivered within 2-3 minutes after ordering. Overall, not sure if we caught them on an off day or that's just their style but even as someone who prefers my food lightly salted, I found the proteins surprisingly bland...and most of the salsas, with the exception of the salsa verde, didn't bring much flavor or punch either. Everything was crying out for some sazón!

Then we got to see where the cheese is made and even personalize a goat cheese of our own. This was a really unique and interesting experience.
