I finally found a winner of a meal. I stopped in at 3pm on a Monday. Mr. Jackson waited on me again and recognized me. We chatted a bit after he served me a full portion of curry chicken with fried rice. It was well spiced. The fried rice has no pork in it, which is how I prefer it. Other customers came in, but when he had time he told me about his two years in the US Army as a draftee from San Diego n the mid 1960s. He stayed here to open his business and has been cooking food ever since. "If I had retired from the army, I'd be over 100 years old now!" he said. He only shuts down when he travels for a week. Ordered an 8 inch roast beef sandwich. I was expecting deli meat, sliced but it was not. Over cooked and the meat was hot even though I asked for cold. The roll was stale and did not ask me what kind of bread I would like. I would have done better at subway. If you want a great deli, go to Jersey Mikes not this place. read more

In Sierra Vista, Arizona there is a food staple. That staple is Jackson's Deli. This restaurant is one of the longest running restaurants, with the same owner for over 40 years! I have tried many items in the menu and never had a bad meal. Today, I'm having the chicken fried rice medium spice. It's so delicious!! I ordered orange chicken and beef broccoli with fried rice for $22, a bit pricey for Chinese food. NOT the typical Chinese food flavor I'm accustomed to back east or even anywhere. Orange chicken had an adobo taste, too salty, and again did not look or taste like orange chicken. The beef broccoli was also too salty and was overwhelmed with sesame oil or something similar because the after taste was unbearable. $11 for each meal, drinks not included. I'm willing to pay the price but the quality and taste must justify; in this case, fell short of expectation. Unfortunately, I will not frequent this place. Not going to lie, the place seemed odd, a "deli" that also has Asian food and gyros? I was not sure what to expect when I walked in, based on prior reviews and pictures. I can say I was pleasantly surprised. I got the Mongolian beef, and despite its looks, it tasted great! I have yet to have a sandwich there, but I will be back for sure to try other things. It is clear that the beef itself was cooked ahead of time and microwaved, but the fried rice was good and the beer wasn't like rawhide. Overall I am going three stars, but only until I can try more food there, which I will. read more

Coworker and I went here for lunch today. We got there, immediately seen on the door it was CASH ONLY. Left went to grab cash. Came back, couple was very friendly. Menu was everywhere, and over priced. Food was not what we were expecting. My Friend got lomein and noodles were sticky. Sauce was thick, salty, and not good enough to get past a couple bites. Hers cost her $10 for noodles and can soda.I got the chicken cheesesteak, and the fries were good typical frozen, fried, fries. I'll admit that I haven't been through the door for years-until today. I finally thought about the deli again last night while scheming on a good meal of chicken fried rice. ( My favorite local spot closed down several weeks ago and I DON'T like the chain places.) I am so glad that I thought of Jackson's. Good food at a great price and swell portions. I really wanted to love this place, but it was disappointing. I didn't care that it was small, unkept, and cluttered. Or that the food was overpriced (at first). My order included a pastrami sandwich, teriyaki beef and fried rice. The pastrami was really salty and dry, the bread was just ok. The beef was just ok. It's sliced thin and had more onions than meat. The rice was just white rice with a little sauce mixed in it. At least I can say I tried it. At this point I'm just hoping we don't get sick. This place was definitely a surprising experience. I found parking right in front of the restaurant, and saw a sign in the window that said "If we're not open, just stuff money under the door." I thought that was pretty cute and amusing. I wasn't too sure what else to expect from this place, but the second I stepped out of my car and got a whiff of deliciousness wafting from the establishment, I knew I was in for a treat! I don't think delicatessens should really smell like anything though, so I was curious to know what I would find once I made my way inside. It is a pretty small restaurant, especially with all the vintage decorations on the wall. Also on the wall right in front of you was a huge menu listing everything from sandwiches, gyros, brats, burgers, AND Chinese food. I had the brat and it was pretty good. I think the place was a bit pricey though, but I think it would be worth it for lunch every now and then. CASH ONLY. Now that that's out of the way, Jackson's Deli is one of the strangest hole-in-the-wall places in town that I've ever been to. Eclectic doesn't even begin to describe it; it's like someone transported a tiny deli from 1970s Chicago and plopped it in modern-day Sierra Vista. The variety of food is almost suspicious, ranging from Chinese to American to Greek etc. After taking a bit too long scanning the menu, I was hinted by the cashier that I should try the Cheesesteak, so I did. I wasn't disappointed. Even though the fries were a bit soggy and everything was served on a plastic plate, the cheesesteak was fantastic. I don't know how they do it, but they obviously know their stuff. They also serve Tsingtao beer, bargain-bin DVDs, and old paperbacks. This place is weird, but also charming. Even the cashier went into the bathroom to throw up when I showed her. You walk in and you can clearly see that the place has some history. Reminds me of some of the bodegas and sandwich shops on the east coast. I would call it the equivalent of a "greasy spoon" deli. I have been coming to Jackson's for a long time. I always order a Bacon Cheeseburger with everything on it, a side order of potato salad, and of course a Strawberry soda. First let me tell you what is awesome about Jackson's: they have the best soda selection there is, from strawberry, to Crush orange soda, Cream soda, to Root beer, and a whole assortment of other anomalies that you used to drink when you were a child. Second, the décor is wacko! Especially with a sign that says "If we're not open, just stuff money under the door." But it makes it that much more awesome, because it reflects the menu choices: how often can you order a cheeseburger, or anything else for that matter with a choice of fries, potato salad, or fried rice on the side?? This place is a hidden gem and is only frequented by locals. It's pretty divey, so don't be freaked out. It get's warm in here too, and seating is limited. this is my go to gyro place south of phx. Yeah, so there's no Wi-Fi, they only take cash, and the place is dated and probably hasn't changed in 20 years. But who cares, they serve a delicious cheesesteak, and they have very reasonable daily specials. Like five dollars for a sandwich and a side and a drink. Oh yeah, and I can't name another place in town that I can get a cheesesteak, Gyro, or sweet-and-sour chicken and have a beer with my meal - this is a real deli, -they serve beer! This place definitely has character, and the people that run the place are old school, but really nice and friendly. I think I'm going to like this place more and more, as it is truly a mom-and-pop place. I'm looking forward to going back and trying more of their menu. read more

I first ate at Jackson's in 1991, when I was stationed at FT Huachuca, and I still do, when I can. I don't go to Sierra Vista often now, maybe once every few years, but when I do, I still make it a point to stop in at Jackson's. I ordered 2 gyros, a cheeseburger and a small shrimp fried rice and my order was $53.00. How the total came to that I do not know. I asked for a receipt and was given a hand written receipt that just said my total on it only and no itemization. The gyro meat was dry and the taki sauce was simply sour cream. All that was on the gyros was the sour cream and some tomatoes.The fried rice had a couple bean sprouts in it and a few small pieces of egg other than that no vegetables and had hardly any flavor. Jackson's Deli is one of the best hidden gems in Sierra Vista! Their menu is extensive, from the best subs and burgers to fried rice and egg rolls. The service is fast, efficient, and the two person staff is always polite and ready to serve. The only drawback is that they only take cash, no plastic, but it's well worth the trip to the ATM. I have been eating at Jackson's Deli for the last 14 years of my life and I love the owner, Jackson. Jackson's Deli has all the traits I look for in good food. It's greasy, good portioned, dive-y appearance, and not to mention delicious. Jackson used to make me a special Philly cheese steak combined with Asian vegetables and sprouts. This is one of those social experiments gone wrong. If there was one place in town the food inspector missed it was here. Do not go here for the food, unless of course you like the taste of stir fry, hoagie roll, hamburger, shrimp, fries, lo mein, and other unidentified items all cooked on the same grill and served up to you. umm umm Lo mein flavored hamburger. If you do want to experience the sights and sound of a crammed cafe with hand written signs, variable prices for the same items, stickers, posters, cards, pictures and other variety items then this is the feast for the eyes.
