This facility claims to be an inclusive and diverse community, but in reality, it feels like a "whites-only" club where people of color are made to feel unwelcome and invisible. The environment is toxic. The staff is vindictive and unprofessional, and the director is completely ineffective, allowing the women running the floor to walk all over him and the patients. It's clearly "vanilla" dominated, and if you don't fit that demographic, you don't belong. They didn't care about my sobriety; they only cared about the money. I came in ready for a 7-day detox, but they immediately pressured me to sign a 28-day contract. When I refused to be bullied, their attitude turned hostile. The attached photo of a phone number scribbled on a yellow sticky note was the only "professional" help they gave me. Don't go here if you are looking for real care. They talk about being an affirming space, but they treat patients like business transactions.

You don't end up here because you wanna be here. That being said they worked with us as a family so well. I really liked that. They involve you in the treatment and try to ensure that you will have the tools necessary to help your child continue on their path of healing. The path is BUMPY, and it heartbreaking. I remember graduating out of program thinking I don't know if I am ready to do it without them. They helped us navigate tough topics and issues our teen would shut down on us with. Helped us see each other's sides. Helped our teen see themeself. When we graduated out were ok and we did move forward on our own. As a family we are so thankful for the staff at Evolve and the forever impact they have made on our child's life. The skills they shared, our kiddo still uses. Our kiddo really had a connection to the staff. There was also a pet lizard that meant a lot to our kiddo. There's so much I could say about this place. But the biggest is just two words FOREVER THANKFUL.

I went to Evolve last year for a number of things, and I can safely say that it was a very strange,…read morelife-changing event. The location I had attended was brand-new and I was one of the first people to enter, which may account for many of the bad things about Evolve. It was a traumatic experience. Most of the staff were just several years older than me, no experience clearly, couldn't handle stress well at all and were about as empathetic as robots. When I complained of some minor headache, they forced me to have four Benadryls at once and didn't let me sleep despite my drowsiness the rest of the day. The group of others who attended the residential at the same time as me were very chaotic and triggering to each other, which was hard to endure and didn't help my journey progress. Evolve's "reward" system was messed up and were practically punishments. We typically were only allowed to phone our parents for 3-5 minutes per day. The facility was also not very well-taken care of despite it being new, and a few weeks in, I'd found a dead lizard rotting under my bed. The few perks of the treatment: the therapist I had, the weekend outings, narcotic anonymous meetings, and being able to listen to music. I'd love to continue rambling more about my experience here, but there's too much to tell, and I would like to show some respect to Evolve for at least trying. Overall, I gave Evolve an extra star because I did come out of the program better than when I had come in; however, the actual treatment I had received at this facility was not what helped me. It was the traumatic experiences I've had there that made me want to leave sooo very bad that I ended up healing myself.

When I was picked up they sent a house manager to get me and he really started to ask question and seemed really sincere, when I arrived to the house I was greeted by some of my soon to be roommates and it was amazing how they all seemed to make sure I was good, alder if I needed food or go to the store? They pretty much made me feel very welcomed. Then I started doing the groups and learned a lot about myself! My one on ones with my therapist really made a big difference and I was able to get through a lot of trauma that was the underlying of root causes to some of my addictions. Since I graduated the program and starting to reintroduce myself to regular life. I have no cravings. If I think about using they come and are gone as fast as they came. I have to say that it was the development of the tools and all the classes and group settings. They really help me get through this and prepare me mentally to think of life in a different aspect and realize that I'm how much better person in sobriety than I ever was in my addiction and I'm grateful for everybody at Shoreline counselors therapist staff they all have made a big impact on the person that I am today and moving forward. And I know doctors (6 years, 5 chronic health conditions, 3 which directly contribute to depression). But that's what's great about him. Most doctors will not try TMS and other cutting-edge NON-PHARMA treatments before busting out the prescription pad. Most doctors will reduce you to a diagnosis and forget to see the person behind it. Most doctors are not constantly learning about the latest treatments, research and YOU. Most doctors truly don't think outside the box. Dr L then prescribed an overwhelming number of supplements (rather than finding supplements with multiple nutrients that were needed), that again cost a lot of money. I communicated that the plan was overwhelming and not going to work for us. She did not even try to keep us as a client. Needless to say we ended this relationship and lost a lot of money. My way or the highway...this is Pete's mantra. We heard this about 3 times during our consultation…read moreand again during the first part of our first meeting. Prior to our meeting, Pete had us complete about 2 hours' worth of paperwork, much of which was disturbing as it required my wife and myself to dig very deep into the past. My wife broke down crying several times during this process. Within the first 10 minutes of our first meeting, Pete started criticizing my use of Trimix, an ED medication that I am prescribed by a doctor. He claimed my prescribing doctor (several doctors are aware that I use Trimix) was wrong and did not prescribe the medication properly, he would only accept me being on Trimix if I got approval from one specific doctor in San Diego (apparently no other doctors are good enough for Pete). He then went on to tell me that it's a powerful drug and it could cause damage. Pete clearly knows nothing about Trimix. I have been using Trimix for years and, although it is a powerful ED medication, it is extremely safe to use and has little to no side effects when used correctly (other than a long-lasting erection that won't go down if you don't dose correctly). Without Trimix, I have ED. Pete then went on to say that he must have all of the contacts for my doctors (which I self-pay for) but at that point and seeing that he very much lacked knowledge of medications or at least Trimix, I was very hesitant to allow him to speak to my doctors, besides, I have only known this guy for 10 minutes. I explained to him that I would not do that and again, his mantra was 'my way or the highway' or in other words 'if you won't do what I say, I can refer you to someone else'. This guy could be a good therapist but with his cocky, stubborn attitude and dead-set mentality that he is right and I was wrong was a major turn-off and a deal-breaker for us - I simply shut off the zoom meeting at this point. Pete, you might want to self-reflect on some of your methods and policies. Now we are left with having dug up our past for this guy, no therapy unless we succumb to his demands, and now sitting in limbo trying to find a new therapist that might be more understanding to our needs. I would take anything this guy says with a grain of salt and remember; he's a human just like all of us, nothing special and may not always be right. Great job Pete, rock on funny guy!

I have seen many a therapist in my time and basically the majority of them seemed like quacks. Frankly I had lost faith in the profession but was desperate and decided to give it one last try. I came upon Peter Roussos website about therapy and collaborative services. There was some stuff about differentiation that almost turned me off because I thought it was just a another quack method. But like I said I was desperate so I called him. Immediately his voice put me at ease. He has certain beliefs about different types of therapy but he certainly isn't in the business to shove them down any ones throat. Our first appointment my husband really opened up and that was the first time I had really saw him do that in a therapeutic environment. Pete Roussos made him feel immediately at ease so he was comfortable enough to open up. He dug pretty deep but in a respectful way and to be honest I sometimes left there feeling sick to my stomach. But you can't fix what you don't acknowledge. It was painful at times and he was strict with us to not let us get away with bullshit. He also didn't take sides. I swear there were times where I knew I was right dammit and I wanted him to back me and tell my husband off. Well what good would that do really? Scare my husband away? Make him feel attacked. Would have got us nowhere at all. At the time I was a little chapped but looking back a few days later I knew that he was approaching it the right way. We both needed to feel safe enough to open up and communicate. And that was the only way we were going to pull through it all. When I once gave him credit in saving my marriage he quickly corrected me and said he gave us the tools but we were the ones who saved our marriage. I'm still giving him some credit though. He did give us tools but he also gave us a safe place to learn to use them. Without that we may have ended up with nothing.
