Getting into their online system, I would get repeat requests to sign up even though I was already in. I also required a special two factor authentication. This would get annoying. Once I got a bill, I got emails at 2am asking for payment. This was also unnecessary. The worst part was advising me on what to do in the case of a marriage separation. Not only did I end up owing so much I had to deplete my emergency fund, but I had to pay 3k to learn that. I was asked once about my filing status and dependencies without being told how devastating it could be if that changed. In addition, they filed an extension, and I now owe interest and penalties. Yes, life changes mean financial hardship. But I was not properly advised and this ended up being the worst experience I've ever had with a CPA.

We have been using Sumi for several years for non-trivial/non-simple taxes and she's been great…read more Every year she has more information for me about possible deductions that have been added to the tax code or how I can better prepare for the next year, so in addition to doing taxes I'm unable to do on my own, her service improves for me year after year. A brief description of the non-trivial taxes Sumi has handled for us: * My wife works normal w-2 wages, and we have normal easy turbotax tax concerns like property tax and mortgage interest and 1099-INT or 1099-DIV deductions from savings. * I work a 1099 contractor job (software engineering) where I pay estimated taxes throughout the year and have additional self-employed deductions that I'm allowed to take for work-related expenses. * I have a single member LLC for some iPhone apps I've published on the app store. * I'm part of a dual-member LLC for other apps a friend and I published and maintain. For my needs, Sumi does it all: * She does our normal easy turbotax bits. * She handles our dual-member LLC form 1065/K-1 paperwork I have no Idea how to do. * She handles my single member LLC paperwork and advises me on how to better do my 1099-income related deductions year after year. * She reminds me to file state-related franchise tax forms related to the LLCs every year. * She helps me prepare for estimated tax payments by doing the math for me and giving me pre-filled tax payments, and reminding me to talk to her about the Jan 15 one at the tail end of the year to fix any discrepencies in estimated vs actual income come year end. * She always advises me every year on new slightly more complicated tax measures I could take (Such as creating an S-CORP for myself if 1099 becomes a long term employment situation for me), but she is also very understanding of my preference to keep things simple as long as possible (and two LLCs plus 1099 income is already complicated enough as is!). Sumi is very kind and helpful, always. And, she always does her homework for me, as there have been some non-trivial / abnormal tax situations related to the dual-member LLC where she has gone back to tax books and tax peers to double check her advice before giving it. Sumi is one of those rare professionals who makes your life easier rather than more complex and makes you very glad you found her rather than someone less helpful or too over-your-head with tax legalese speak.

The IRS had already closed out their inquiry after I spoke with them due to seeing I did not owe anything for those years. However, they did state that I may be owed money from mortgage interest paid. Since all of my past tax refunds have been filed with H&R Block I thought this an easy phone call question to answer as to whether I should file. The initial person I spoke with tried to schedule me for $50/hr consultation fee. I asked to speak to someone else as I thought this couldn't be right. I was transferred to "Erin" who was able to answer my question in well under five minutes. When I told her the person I spoke to prior stated it would be a $50/hr consultation fee she stated, "well I should have charged that since it took over 15 minutes." Including a screenshot of total call duration, both representatives I spoke to and the lingering 10 seconds I looked at my phone like maybe my eyes deceived me. There are plenty of H&R Block locations to choose from -- I suggest you choose a different one. I've had many years of good service with H&R Block, this particular location not being the one I typically file with.

Our return started in March and was passed between multiple team members -- five in total -- after the first preparer failed to enter key documents, including my spouse's income. Even after filing an extension and moving to the Cedar Park office, the preparer who was supposed to handle out‑of‑state home sale filings couldn't complete the return and passed it off again. We ultimately had to go elsewhere, and we're now dealing with fraudulent claiming of our dependents. This was an extremely frustrating and stressful process, and I cannot recommend this location based on our experience.
