Simply the best, most prompt, CPA I've dealt with. Great experience with real estate and stock / options.

We have been using Sumi for several years for non-trivial/non-simple taxes and she's been great. Every year she has more information for me about possible deductions that have been added to the tax code or how I can better prepare for the next year, so in addition to doing taxes I'm unable to do on my own, her service improves for me year after year. A brief description of the non-trivial taxes Sumi has handled for us: * My wife works normal w-2 wages, and we have normal easy turbotax tax concerns like property tax and mortgage interest and 1099-INT or 1099-DIV deductions from savings. * I work a 1099 contractor job (software engineering) where I pay estimated taxes throughout the year and have additional self-employed deductions that I'm allowed to take for work-related expenses. * I have a single member LLC for some iPhone apps I've published on the app store. * I'm part of a dual-member LLC for other apps a friend and I published and maintain. For my needs, Sumi does it all: * She does our normal easy turbotax bits. * She handles our dual-member LLC form 1065/K-1 paperwork I have no Idea how to do. * She handles my single member LLC paperwork and advises me on how to better do my 1099-income related deductions year after year. * She reminds me to file state-related franchise tax forms related to the LLCs every year. * She helps me prepare for estimated tax payments by doing the math for me and giving me pre-filled tax payments, and reminding me to talk to her about the Jan 15 one at the tail end of the year to fix any discrepencies in estimated vs actual income come year end. * She always advises me every year on new slightly more complicated tax measures I could take (Such as creating an S-CORP for myself if 1099 becomes a long term employment situation for me), but she is also very understanding of my preference to keep things simple as long as possible (and two LLCs plus 1099 income is already complicated enough as is!). Sumi is very kind and helpful, always. And, she always does her homework for me, as there have been some non-trivial / abnormal tax situations related to the dual-member LLC where she has gone back to tax books and tax peers to double check her advice before giving it. Sumi is one of those rare professionals who makes your life easier rather than more complex and makes you very glad you found her rather than someone less helpful or too over-your-head with tax legalese speak. read more

Sumi completely saved me with our taxes last year! I was frantic, behind, and overwhelmed when i reached out to her 10 days before the extension deadline. She generously offered to help me despite the approaching deadline and she calmly led me through the complications of my filing. I have a small business and had many questions which she answered with patience and offered me tax advice about future filings as my business grows. I especially appreciate her organization and clarity - she told me exactly what to bring and when, how to categorize my expenses, and explained the process to me every step of the way, including how to proceed in future years. I'm so grateful to her for her patience and organization! read more

In 2014 I started my mobile service company and initially hired a local bookkeeper to handle my tax concerns. Beginning of 2105 my bookkeeper advise me she was moving an hour away and could still prepare my taxes remotely... Since I'm old school I decided to hire a nearby tax preparer so I could meet face to face on a moments notice. I research individuals on Yelp, narrowed my choices, by phone interviewed 3 individuals and decided Sumi would be the best fit for both of us. Because I'm one of the best procrastinator I hadn't filed my 1040 taxes for the last 3 years. To make matters worse I failed to properly complete 1120s filing so the irs rejected my application for a Sub S Corp thus the IRS was charging a late filing fee of ONLY $4000. Sumi reviewed all my paperwork, layed out my options and planned out a new strategy with the best and worst case scenarios. First, she contacted the IRS and submitted a new application for 1120s. Second, she prepared my past the years 1040 tax returns. And third, she sent the IRS a love letter to asking to reconsider the $4000 penalty. And the results six weeks later... 1) IRS reconsiders and accepts my new 1120s application 2) IRS foregos $4000 penalty 3) Filed last three years 1040 taxes with a whopping $11, 000 refund 4) TOTAL RELIEF! Sumi brings a diverse background to the table that uniquely qualifies her as not only a trusted tax advisor, but also a skilled business consultant. I can't advocate her enough for anyone running a small business or someone looking for a professional tax preparer. As I'm gathering our 2017 tax docs I'm reminded how much trust I have in Sumi as my tax preparer, she is awesome and I could not ask for better CPA! read more

After years of feeling unimportant with our last Accountant, we found Sumi. Sumi came recommended by a friend. We called her and set an appointment to meet and discuss our needs. We gave her our business and happily walked away from the old accountant. Sumi gets everything done in a fast and professional manner. Her rates are very fair. I wish we had found her years ago. She was even able to get us more money back on our personal taxes than our other accountant ever did. All of us here at Sharp Brothers Locksmith, highly recommend Sumi. read more

I have had Sumi Elangovan prepare my taxes since 2013. She has helped facilitate both my single filing and joint filing after marriage. It has been a blessing having a trustworthy, reliable, and most importantly, efficient, CPA to work with. I have usually filed all of my paperwork by mid-February with Sumi and she promptly returns the following documents within, at times, a single business day (if not less): Statement of Charges for Services Rendered Tax Summary and Instructions for Filing She prepares them professionally and simply. When adjustments arise or new documents are added she expeditiously amends the form and graciously updates you and always keeps you abreast of timelines. Each subsequent year she proactively reaches out with a preparation worksheet. After her preparation services are complete, Sumi's true drive and motivation are revealed. She cares about you and your success. She insists on personally meeting to review and collect payment for services and remembers many details about your professional and personal relationship with her. She cares about the livelihoods of those she's working with. This is very rare and to be commended. You are not just a number. I highly recommend working with Sumi for a stress-free, professional tax season! She delivers a quality service, at an affordable and reasonable rate, and strives to get your refund back to you as quickly as possible. Cannot thank her enough. I used Sumi last year with fantastic results. Unfortunately transferred to Houston and assumed I would need a CPA here. How wrong was I! Inquired about several local CPAs here, and got horrible first impressions. I faxed over my information (which is quite complicated) to Sumi, and got a well prepared and money saving result in no time! Additionally, she is respectful and admiringly knowledgeable about current and future tax savings. Will continue to use Sumi for years to come! Thank u Sumi! read more
