Went to Jack's Urban Eats tonight. Ordered the Lemon Thyme Chicken Plate w/ Mac and Cheese and Cheese Bread as well as the Tri Tip Sandwich and a side of Garlic Fries. The chicken with the plate was smaller than usual and nothing was warm. The warmest thing was the charred lemon which I had to ask for (it normally comes with the plate). I've been going to Jacks since high school (SFHS '08 woot woot!) and this place is super nostalgic and just dear to my heart. Everyone seems to love the BBQ tri tip sandwich, but I opted for the Jack's classic tri-tip sandwich since I'm not a huge fan of oversauced meat. Most tri-tip sandwiches I've eaten are filled with meat and nothing else. Jack's classic tri-tip sandwich goes above and beyond by adding caramelized onions, lettuce and tomatoes. The meat was tender, which is a huge plus. The sweet potato fries are average. On retrospect, I should have gone with the garlic fries. I'm a fan of Jacks Urban Eats however I've only visited this location once a long time ago. My friend and I decided to stop by here because I was craving a tri tip sandwich. When we arrived there were quite a few people sitting and eating already but there wasn't really a line (only 2 people in front of us). Which was great because it just gave us enough time to decide what we wanted. My friend ended up getting a salmon salad and I ended up ordering a Bbq tri tip sandwich. Also, we got family size fries and mac and cheese to share. After ordering, we sat down. Although, there were a lot of people dining in, we didn't have an issue grabbing a booth. It didn't take too long for our food to come. To be honest, the wait was shorter than I expected. Our food was fresh and delicious! It definitely hit the spot, for sure. Tonight, I was really craving some authentic Chinese dumplings from a locally owned small business, but my husband decided Jack's would be a better option - I compromised and agreed. I sure do wish I hadn't! He had the trip tip sandwich (which he was very pleased with), I had the Chinese Chicken Salad - it wasn't terrible, but the chicken was dry and hard. The croutons were a new twist as well, I'm used to won ton strips. The portion sizes were what was expected considering it is "to go". They cram what they can into a container approximately 8" x 8". My review isn't so much about the entrees though...it's about the side. We also ordered a Family Size Urban fries. What we received was equivalent to a McDonalds medium sized fries, equally as soggy. For $6.95 I was expecting a little more than what was received. I could have passed through McDonalds and gotten (2) large fries for less than the family size at Jack's. It was disappointing to say the least. I'm empathetic to the COVID pandemic and all that it entails to keep businesses up and running - which is why I'm eating out to begin with. It's just such a shame that good quality service is being sacrificed, citing COVID. Jack's is closed for dine-in, seemed as though they had plenty of staff, and prepared our order quickly; it was a bonus it wasn't about to close; however the food received seemed as though it were the "end of the night" food, about to be thrown out and the staff was not willing to prepare more for fear of the "waste." Whatever the case is, Jack's should put more effort into the quality they're producing/serving - it makes a difference. Perhaps it's because we are forced to "take out," it doesn't matter what we receive...ultimately, it's paid for, and we are stuck with it. Who knows? They do what they need to do to get the job done! Strong work. I usually order the Jack's Classic char-grilled chicken breast sandwich on RYE bread. SO BOMB. The sandwich includes caramelized onions, leaf lettuce, tomato, mayo & honey mustard. You can't go wrong with something so simple and so yummy. It will fill you up for sure if you're hungry and need some protein. Any of their salads are good but I especially like the steak salads here. One in particular that I order is the Western BBQ Steak Salad which has Chipotle BBQ tri-tip, kidney & garbanzo beans, corn, jicama, tomato, carrots, mixed greens, topped with fried onion strings & fresh dill dressing. I always get dressing on the side! Recently my friend Daisy introduced me to the Jack's Urban Fries which is pretty much a food orgasm in your mouth. The urban fries includes their french fries with blue cheese, spicy chili oil and chili flakes. For a single order, it's only $3.50! This used to be one of my favorite goto places. The pictures show the way the sandwiches used to be. Now the meat in the sandwiches is barely one layer, maybe 40% of what they used to serve. I don't mind paying for good food, but for the money (and it's pricey) you should get a good portion. The sandwiches shouldn't be all bread. Before you say hey, maybe it was a new person or they had an off night I'll tell you I've already tried that. Been back 2 or 3 times and it's the same result. Also I tried this test at a second Jacks location same thing with the portion size for the sandwiches. To illustrate this point I've noticed The lines that used to be almost out the door at all times have died down during peak times, and we can always find a table these days. I can tell you the Spicy Urban fries are awesome, the salads made customer order are great and that's where you get the value of a huge salad for the money. Wow this was awful. I wanted to try this instead of Bjs or the Thai restaurant (mistake). My sons Mac and cheese was all Mac no cheese and cold. It was like buttered noodles but even more bland. Went here yesterday with my family and this morning both my husband and I have food poisoning and insane stomach pain! I ordered a Caesar salad with steak (this order was incorrectly made at first) and the second time they brought it out the steak portion was cut in half and the pieces not well done as I've asked and the steak was cut in a way that it couldn't be eaten: all fat... yet I paid almost $18 for this salad! If your prices go up - at least provide the quality please. The lettuce must have been not washed because we both shared the salad and have insane pain today. Would not recommend. Dude this place rocks. 4 stars easily. The GF has been trying to get me here for what seems like forever. We walked in maybe waited in line for about 5 minutes. To order was a little confusing if you have never been here before. But it does work itself out very easily. They will cater to your needs and wants. We started out with the Urban fries, not sure what the sauce is but it was friggin amazing, next time I'm gonna get some sauce on the side also.The GF ordered a steak salad and asked them to change a few things and substitute others; I was worried the dude didn't wright it down but he nailed it so I was very impressed. I ordered the Ruben sammich and it have to say it was one of the damn best rubens I have ever had. We ordered beers and they were out of 805 but I thinks it's ok cuz I run out of beer also. I've been to this and the other Jack's locations countless times. It is one of my favorite restaurants because the food and service are always great. The sandwiches and salads are at Jack's are always fantastic. Some of my favorite salads are the chicken caesar salad, chinese chicken salad, and the santa fe chicken salad. The chicken caesar is one of the best caesars I've ever tried. The croutons and the chicken are to die for. The lemon thyme chicken plate and the BBQ chicken sandwich are also great. The atmosphere of this place is really cool, and the employees are all really friendly. The only problem I ever have is that the line can be long at certain times. I went on a Saturday evening recently and probably waited in line for half an hour. Nonetheless, the line is usually less than 10 minutes. read more

I was very disappointed by my deplorable meal at Jack's when we went. I did a build your own salad at Jack's. Basically everything was unpleasant. I included Broccoli, carrots, cucumber, tofu, fuji apple, radish and fresh dill dressing. The broccoli was as over done as a piece of meat. The carrots weren't fresh, I would guess they were a pre-shredded bag of carrots. the cucumber had almost no flavor, it probably wasn't fresh. The apple wasn't fresh and the radishes weren't crisp. The Dill dressing was basically a white water covering the salad. The tofu was so overdone, something that is an off white in the store was completely blackened. The portion size was significantly smaller than it was pre-pandemic. Our Urban Fries had a pinch of red pepper and a teaspoon of sauce. Before the pandemic, it used to be swimming with sauce and loaded with red pepper and cilantro. To top of the substantial decrease in quality, the prices went up about $3! read more

Went in this past Wednesday before my class and got some early dinner. I got the Turkey Berry Something Something sandwich with no mayo (and there was no mayo, yay!) The staff wasn't blatantly rude, but I was treated similarly as if I was at Chipotle. They were all pretty indifferent. I didn't get much of a look around the rest of the restaurant, so I can't properly review it. Except for the young lady taking my order - she asked me if I wanted any sides, I told her I'd like a side of the Mac 'n Cheese, and she told me I needed to order it at the register, which confused me. Why did she ask if I wanted sides? I'm sure there is an explanation and I just don't understand how Jack's ordering process works, but no one cared to kindly explain it to me. Instead they just looked at me like I was an idiot for answering their question. I didn't wait long for my sandwich at all, which was a plus, because there was nowhere to sit and wait that wasn't in the dining area. I could have sit down in the dining area, but I wanted to leave that for the other customers who were dining in. But like I said, the wait wasn't long - maybe five minutes. So I took my to-go order and went to the campus to eat out of my car like a typical college student and the sandwich I got was barely a sandwich at all. I'll upload the photos I took of it. Everything was stacked in the center of the bread, which was burned on the inside and covered in intense amounts of grease from the grill. There was just a small piece of turkey, one slice of cheese, and about an inch of bread all around. If I had spread it out, it would have been an incredibly weak sandwich and the turkey still wouldn't have reached every bite. This was a $10 sandwich and I only got about 3 good bites with everything in it. Those 3 bites were really pretty tasty (I do like that apple relish stuff), in spite of the grease, but I'm not going to spend another $10 for 3 bites of a sandwich. Definitely not worth it. I gave it two stars because if they can train the staff to be more polite and friendly and teach them how to make a friggin' PROPER sandwich, I think it could be a great spot. As of now, I don't plan on going back. PS. This has to be one of the ultimate first world problems. "They didn't make my sandwich properly so I ate it and was unhappy." We tried this place a couple years ago and decided it wasn't for us. If you haven't been there before the ordering process can be confusing, and I don't feel like their prices are in line with what they serve. We gave it another go tonight because some out of town visitors were intrigued. I thought maybe my first opinion was too hasty. Nope. The food tastes fine but it's not great. A tiny sandwich with no side is going to run you about $10. The line is still confusing for newcomers. I got the California cheesesteak and it didn't have much meat in it. Super cool place! I was visiting my Sister in Law at her work and she introduced me to this place. I ordered the BBQ chicken sandwich and the urban fries (which she threatened to never have lunch with me if I didn't order those) lol. The way they cook everything is really neat. All in these big cast iron pots all cooked and ready to go with them grilling up all meat fresh. The urban fries are garlic fries with this white cheese sauce and pepper flakes on them. Freaking best fries ever. I did as well try the steak salad my Mom ordered and the steak was cooked perfect and had a great dressing on it. They also serve beer and wine. They had Stella and Rogue beer to name a few, which was a plus for me! The one girl and guy cleaning up the tables were super friendly and making sure every table was wiped down completely. However the reason for only 4 stars and not 5 is the girl taking our orders had a major edge to her. Didn't say hi or anything all she said was what do you want to order. The seeds which were almost burned were bitter tasting and ruined the salad. Seeds are not the perfect complement to chicken, apples & celery, as are walnuts. On January 11th, my wife and I walked into Jacks Urban Eats in the Broadstone plaza, Folsom, CA for the first time. As we glanced at the menu, my wife came up with several questions. An associate named Skylar enthusiastically answered all her questions patiently in great detail. We were extremely impressed by her soft spoken demeanor. In spite of the fact that the restaurant was very busy, she took the time to address all her questions. Furthermore, we observed that all the staff members looked happy. The food was very fresh and well prepared. We will surely go there again. A suggestion: Please put at least one or two more vegetarian choices (hot sandwiches) on your menu. So I go in and stand in line for 20 minutes to grab a take-out order which consisted of a salad containing lettuce, tomato and cucumber with dill dressing in the side. A small garlic fry and a tri tip plate with Mac n cheese and cheesy broccoli. Simple enough right? Apparently not! Went straight home. Maybe 5 minutes away. Garlic fries are greasy and limp! Found two parts of the romaine head you're supposed to cut off! And there's no BBQ sauce with my tri tip. The BBQ sauce is the entire reason I order the tri tip! I try to call several times to complain and request a refund but nobody answers and their mailbox is full! Guess I'll have to treat the employees like children and open up all the boxes in front of them before leaving next time.... this was my lunch and dinner for before and after work. Great home cooked Thanksgiving type portions and flavors! The service was great and we were the first in line for lunch time.
