Unique menu and welcoming environment on a Monday evening. There were four vegan roll options, two cooked rolls and the rest were raw but all very unique combinations. We got the protein bowls, one with chicken and one with raw salmon, both good BUT don't mix the sauce in with the rice until you try it. You can get the bowl with rice or with greens or quinoa and I think the sauce is meant for the greens. Despite the casual vibe they had clean porcelain plates like you'd get at a restaurant and glasses if you're dining in. I plan to go back and try the rest of their menu. read more

From the edible flower decoration on my sushi to the intentionally placed crispy tofu on my cold sesame noodles, attention to detail is impeccable. I did the lunch and got spicy salmon and the curry roll. The spicy salmon was tasty but was just salmon and wasabi in rice - I think I was expecting sriracha mixed with the salmon. The curry roll was absolutely flavorless. Veggies were fresh in the roll but I expected some flavor to hit my tastebuds. The food came out very quickly. Fair price point - $16+tax for 2 rolls and miso soup - I don't think you'll find many places outside a grocery store that will be that inexpensive. I attended the pop-up at Cordial and I ordered the shrimp and avocado roll and I was not impressed. There were no flavors at all. I had to add so much soy sauce add flavor to the roll. New restaurants are always so much fun to try! Came here for lunch on a Wednesday during their first week of opening. This restaurant is by the same owner as RED, so I had high expectations. For a casual, grab-and-go version of RED, it definitely delivers. I ordered the rad tuna roll and shitake dumplings. I liked the rad tuna; it had a pickle and a pleasant little surprise. The dumplings were also delicious and fresh tasting. I think they are still getting their groove as a restaurant. My friend received the wrong roll, but they quickly fixed it and let them keep the wrong roll. I will be back, hoping this will be a new favorite lunch spot as it is close to my work. read more

Some items were great and others were a miss. The overall theme and atmosphere is great, the place is fun and I love the quick service sushi. All three sushi rolls we tried were good. Pear pressure was unique and the flavors all worked together. The fish was so fresh! The xoxo was my favorite! The lemon flavor is amazing in it! We also tried the spice spice baby which was also good, but more simple. I didn't care for any of the apps we got- the edamame was plain and adding the chili sauce didn't make a difference to us. But it's edamame, not much to expect. The slaw could have been seasoned better or had a different sauce- it was very plain and boring. The pork dumplings were okay, not my fave but not bad. I think I would try the shrimp ones next time. Overall the food was good, but pretty pricey for quick service style. The staff were very friendly and the place was clean. Went to Jacknife recently for dinner on a week night with friends. The venue was very clean, casual, and hip. I really liked how there were individual tables and a very long table for many guests to enjoy their food (up to 8 or 10 people could fit on the long table). The sushi was delicious! I had 2 of the specialty rolls (one was salmon skin and another was spicy tuna, yellow tail, and avocado). The rolls were very fresh and were beautifully presented. Overall, my experience was very good. The sushi tasted great, the atmosphere was clean and casual, and the wait time was not very long. Will return! read more

Totally disappointing, especially knowing it's the same people as Red. Non-food things (curbside pickup, sushi packaging) were done really well and it was ready quickly, but that's it. Roasted vegata-bowl was basically just a pile of edamame with some sad roasted vegetables. Sauce was good but just a boring, unflavorful, seemingly lacking effort dish. Cold sesame noodles were good, but also not super flavorful or memorable. Rad tuna roll was standard. Tuna was not as good as what we've had at Red in the past. Overall just seems like the place can't decide what it wants to be ("rolls and bowls" = carne asada salads and no poke bowls) and is doing below average, boring things in the meantime. read more

Writing this review is a big time bummer y'all. I live on E wash and have been eagerly anticipating the opening of fast-casual Jacknife for months. Once I heard the owner is RED we're opening this place I had high expectations and was excited about their new venture! However, when I tried Jacknife last week I was incredibly underwhelmed. My issues with Jacknife have to do with the food, prices, and menu. I had hoped ( and sort of expected) to see something like sushi burritos or poke bowls on the menu given the proximity to Breese Stevens Field and lack of sushi burrito availability in WI. Sadly, the menu is mostly rolls and bowls - which would be fine if they were really good. Next, the menu is very eclectic. It feels like the rolls on the menu are the rolls that are under development and didn't make it to the main menu at RED. I ordered the pear pressure roll and can say I don't ever need to combine orange sauce, salmon, and pear again. My wife ordered the ebibody rock roll which was better than the pear roll but wasn't anything to get excited about. We didn't finish either roll. We also ordered the shrimp dumplings which were incredibly salty and the seaweed salad - which kicked ass. Oh - and their miso cookie - that shit slaps. Get that miso cookie. Ok we went over the menu issues and the food issues - the last issue is the price. We paid over $60 dollars for our meal - which feels incredibly expensive for a fast casual restaurant. I'd rather just go to RED than pay the same amount for less good food and less good atmosphere. Overall - I'm really bummed that Jacknife isn't living up to the hype. I REALLY WANT THIS PLACE TO SUCCEED - and i think they can if they fix their menu. I think they missed a huge opportunity with the sushi burritos - the food is weird and expensive and overall I won't be headed back anytime soon. Unless - yes I'll say it again - they give me some handheld sushi in the form of a burrito lol. read more

Absolutely fantastic and a huge need in a city with limited sushi options. Unsurprisingly the food is great here since it is part of the Red Sushi family. However, Jacknife has its own vibe and has a more fast casual vibe while still maintaining the high level of quality tasty food as Red. I love that this restaurant is not a clone of Red and has its own identity. For my first time in I actually decided to use the website and order takeout. Ordering online was very easy and it seems like they have a rewards system (interested to learn more). Unique to most restaurants they use a locker type of system to store your food when it is ready and you are able to collect it from there. I found this system very easy to use and very quick! Unfortunately I was very hungry and excited to try that I forgot to take pictures but I will return and will hopefully remember then. Everything I tried was fantastic. The Rad Tuna and Pear Pressure rolls were fantastic and fresh the pear complemented the roll nicely and did not overtake it. The pork dumplings were fire and I will be trying the other varieties soon. My only wish is that they add some of the basic rolls (salmon, scallop...) as they only have one basic tuna and shrimp roll in current state. Also would like to see more seafood protein options for some of the salads/bowls. I highly recommend Jacknife and I'm excited to see how they continue to be creative. Okay so I just heard about this place yesterday and I love dumplings and sushi so I had to try. They delivered to the hospital I work at in like 30 mins tops! Everything was so easy. Nothing was forgotten. The little tray for soy sauce is perfect!! And most importantly YUMMMMM I am so happy. I haven't even finished my food and I'm writing on Yelp LOL EDIT: so I ended up going again like 3 days after my first review to show a friend. Again, the service was excellent (you guys are so nice lol), I actually went inside this time and the inside is so cool! And clean and fun, the food came out in probably 7 mins. They have an outside patio! But I read some of the other reviews & I wanted to add that this is not RED sushi. It's a different restaurant. It's not a "need a reservation, dress fancy" type of sushi place like RED is. It's a fast and convenient lunch spot. I thought some of the reviews were a little harsh because they were comparing it to RED. One thing I will say: I ordered sushi today at work again but from A different place off Park because I wanted to try it. JackNife's fish pieces are almost double in size. When I was eating it, I was sad I wasn't eating Jacknife, I just want everyone to try this so it will be successful so I can continue to order it at work haha :) seriously! Try it read more

The presentation was lovely, a real orchid in a take-out meal is a step above. But seriously, who puts cucumber in sushi and leaves the skin on? Big chunks of cucumber, with thick leathery skin. Everything else about it was fine, but this spoiled it for me. I've only been once, so maybe that was a fluke? Surely they didn't mean to do that? If they did, they need to rethink that. The prices are not commensurate with the level of preparation, too high for what it is. My dining companion got one of the bowls that was bowled over by way too much sauce and sweet potatoes compared with the rest of the ingredients, not balanced well.
