I had my go-to wings. If you haven't tried them yet, you're missing out. KC is so lucky to have such phenomenal bbq. When I've traveled outside the area and tried what other cities consider their "best ever bbq" it's laughable compared to KC bbq. The best ambience of any of the bbq joints, this historic restaurant is a generational staple of families in the area. It treads a lot more on memories than menu. Sides are poorly made or just tired. The beans were swimming in grease. Burnt ends? Bland and dry. Ribs were overcooked. Service is very arms length. If they know you? Cool. They don't? It rolls a lot more indifferent. Reputation should be based on what you do in the now. Jack stacks up as a rearview mirror on barbecue in a KC where Q39 meets them on the dining experience with better que, and the more fast casual cue joints like Joe's just wipe the floor with them on food. Definitely had to see what all the hype was about. I'm not a huge fan of restaurant bbq because I love the fresh grill taste and I usually don't get that from restaurants. Jack Stack was packed and I'm so glad I've gotten better at making reservations, because we were sat right when it was booked for and the server got our drink order quickly after. We ordered the fresh made lemonade and you can definitely tell those lemons were squeezed in house. These may be the BEST fried mushrooms I've ever had!!! WOW. I love how they are fried whole and dipped in breadcrumbs for an extra crunch. I substituted the horseradish sauce for ranch and it tasted house made, definitely a great touch! I was thoroughly impressed and I will have to come back because everything was amazing. The burnt ends were very meaty and moist, pulls apart with a fork. The brisket was extremely tender and pulled apart with my fork too! The sides were impeccable and complimented my meal so well. The broccoli was steaming hot and topped with the garlic buttery goodness, the baked beans have chopped beef, pork, & sausage burnt ends and seasoned to perfection. I wish I left room for dessert because I heard their carrot cake is a favorite from multiple people. I tried Jack Stack for dinner tonight. Before even ordering food I could tell this place was popular due to the wait at the door. I decided to give the Brisket burnt ends and pork ribs a go. The burnt ends were pretty solid. A tad bit fatty, but even with this I thought they ranked well. The pork ribs were about the same level. I thought they were cooked very well. They didn't blow me out of the water, but they were good. I think the star of the dish was the sides. The baked beans and scalped potatoes were EXCELLENT. Would make a return just for those potatoes. I was extremely impressed with my opening day lunch experience, from the delicious BBQ to the beautiful interior (with nice bar and patio areas) to the professional, efficient and fast five minute service. The two meat lunch ($15) comes standard with fries (not my fave), so I was happy to find that I could easily substitute two other "small" sides for the same price - nice! The meat and side portions were nicely-sized and delicious. especially the brisket and the baked beans. The dining area was well-divided, nicely done and newly remodeled, with contemporary music, a spacious bar area (with happy hour 3-5 PM M-F), a meeting room and a spacious patio with a fireplace and TVs. We are from NY and were visiting friends in Stillwell. Every time we are here we want barbecue. This place is awesome, especially for tourists. They have a kinda " sampler" platter, so you can try a variety of different meats that you may not have ordinarily ordered. We ordered two different platters and you also get three sides. I'm only going to say this once, cheesy corn!! Wow, the best stuff ever. And I am not sure what they do to their baked beans but they are the best I have ever eaten! Coming from the south I was not expecting a BBQ joint that was kind of upscale. The place was packed and we had to wait about 15 minutes to be seated. We waited longer for our server to come to the table(Ginger) than we did to be seated. By the time she got to us we were ready to order except for some questions we had but still ordered while she was there. She said she had an assistant but we never saw him. I ordered the 3 meat plate with pulled pork, beef burnt ends and lamb ribs($5 upcharge). The burnt ends were amazing, seasoned right and juicy. Pulled pork had good flavor but was cold when it arrived. I wondered about the lamb ribs as soon as I saw them posted on yelp. I was disappointed, lamb ribs are small so to much seasoning will over power them. There was Way to much rib on them. The server came regularly, she told us they had a spicy sauce which we asked for 3 times but never actually got. She tried to make up for it with a free dessert, had to pass due to diabetes. I typically look for smoke when I go to a bbq place, there was none but the smell of smoke was in the air so maybe they stop smoking at a certain time. They were to busy to always be like this so I would try them again if suggested but probably would not go on my own. read more

This is my first visit to the Kansas City area, and boy, oh boy, this was a spectacular treat. One of the goals on this trip was to find some good Kansas City barbeque. This place was fortunately our first stop!!! The inside of the restaurant is very spacious and elegantly decorated. Very family friendly and not too loud. Very clean. All the staff was very friendly and accommodating. The food was plenty, and EVERY THING was delicious, smoky, and flavorful! We ordered the Smoked Jalapeno Cornbread that came with honey butter. The flavor in this was amazing and meshed very well. As the main course, we ordered the Taste of Kansas City 4. It came with smoked wings, ribs, pulled pork, and brisket. We also ordered a small order of burnt ends. All of the meat was amazingly tender. You could taste the smokey flavor throughout. I can't determine which was my favorite. The garnish of pickles and pickled onions were also good! We tried four of the different bbq sauces, and the spicy black pepper sauce was the hit with my family! The sides were also awesome! We opted for fries, baked beans, corn bake (which we never had before), and cole slaw. I'm a big fan of cole slaw and this was very fresh and very well seasoned. The corn bake and baked beans were so very good. I was glad we tried something new! Overall, the food and the service were outstanding. I love Jack Stack. One of the more formal options for BBQ in the city, it has been cool to watch them grow and evolve over the years. This is a great space, and I recently had a great lunch here with some coworkers. Jack Stack BBQ is such a known quantity in the KC area, and I feel like sometimes they are a victim of their own success. As far as I can tell, they have the most locations of any KC BBQ spot, and seem to always put out a consistent product. When talking about BBQ with locals, people seem quick to dismiss Jack Stack as a place to bring out of towners, and I think it is because of the success and number of locations. I think the other argument is that Jack Stack has the best sides in the game, but not the best meat. They do have amazing sides, but I think their meat is also delicious. I really love the fire kissed wings. One of the few places to get smoked chicken wings around here, and they are consistently top notch. read more

The beans were great and had generous amounts of pork included... the slaw was creamy and flavorful... They have a respectable wine and beer selection too... It has been years since I've been to a Jack Stack but decided to try out this newish location near us. The new space is really beautiful and unlike so many new restaurants it isn't crazy loud. We ordered mushrooms and rings which came out hot and were great. Then it went off the rails. Food was dropped off and then we didn't see a server again forever. I had to flag down a manager to get a water refill. All the food was delivered cold but who are we going to tell?? The best is one person ordered brisket but got burnt ends. When our server finally did come back the conversation was ridiculous. "We ordered brisket, these are burnt ends." "Yes. Brisket burnt ends" " but we wanted brisket" "you didn't want brisket burnt ends" "no because we didn't order burnt ends" seriously like an SNL sketch. The server did acknowledge that the service had been "chaotic" but no "let me comp your apps or bring you free dessert". I came here with the intentions to try as much as possible. (You'll see my bill later lol) but oh .... My... god..... I'm going to try not to make this long but I had the jacks best, the kc lemonade and the sangria, followed by a carrot cake and chocolate brownie. Everything was hot to the touch and delicious! The meat from the ribs was well seasoned that I could get the Smokey flavor from the bone! Yes! Out of all the jack stacks in the Kansas City area, this one is the bottom of them all. Which sucks because it's the closest to our house. They're just not up to the same standards as all the other Jack stacks. This particular location can't seem to figure out how to cook salmon properly. Which is crazy to me because it's just not that difficult and shouldn't be raw in the center every single time we order it there. We actually stopped going to this location because of that. My oldest daughter always order salmon when we go there and every single time we have ever ordered it at this one which is probably close to 6 to 8 times it has been under cooked completely even though we order it med/well. we have tried to have them cook a new one a few times and it still comes out terrible they overcook it at that point. We never have an issue at the plaza location the Overland Park location or the Martin city location. It's only this location that can't seem to cook a salmon. I always get the chipotle chicken club and have been getting it for years. At the Lenexa location. It is also very hit or miss. Sometimes it comes out dry as hell and other times it's decent. It's never as juicy or perfect as Martin City or Overland Park location. We tried giving them chance after chance but finally said screw it because we got tired of mediocre food for the prices when we could drive 10-15 min further away for good food the way it's suppose to be done. I do give it 3 stars based on the fact, there is a server there that is phenomenal. It sucks that we don't go here anymore because of their food because the server is great. Jack Stack was recommended to me by a guy I sat next to on my flight in. I Got it delivered via door dash. If this is real, Kansas BBQ, I'll stick to Dallas or Carolina barbecue any day. I got the three meat sampler with their beans. The three meats I got were turkey, burnt, ends and sausage. The sausage had a strange aftertaste. The beef burnt ends were 75% fat 25% meat which is fine if you're ordering pork belly not burnt ends. The turkey was nothing more than processed lunchmeat at least that's what it looked and tasted like. The beans were incredibly sweet as in way too sweet. This is a one and done for me. read more

Came here because we love Jack Stacks BBQ and this one was literally right next to the hotel we were staying at. I was a little shakey at first because this particular one has only been open for a couple of months. I soon found out that I did not have anything to worry about. I can honestly say that this my favorite outlet of the 5 that I have visited. The food is just as good or maybe a little better, it is newer and more modern, service is even better and all the staff is happy, energetic, hard working and even smiling all the time. We had a table right outside the kitchen and it looked more like a bunch of friends that were getting together for a cookout then a restaurant kitchen. Our waiter was at our table with our menu and took our drink orders in about 30 seconds. He was back with our drinks in about 3 or 4 minutes and asked if we were ready to order. Since we had been to other outlets already we knew what we wanted to try and he took our order quickly. Our order arrived in only about 5 minutes. We shared the Roundup family platter. It had 4 pork spare ribs, beef brisket, pulled pork and smoked turkey on it. It also came with 3 sides dishes that included hickory pit beans, cheesy corn bake and creamy coleslaw. We also had a loaded baked potato side. Of the meats, the ribs and the turkey were the standouts, but the pulled pork and brisket were very good too. All 4 of the sides we ordered were outstanding. My wife and I liked the coleslaw so much that we took a quart of it to go home with us. Finally, the price. Our bill with drinks was $65. This is a little high for us, but considering that we had enough leftovers for 2 more meals for both of us, it was very reasonable. We cannot wait to come back again. read more

Been a bit since we have bin to Jack Stack. Was truly a work of art. The shrimp that my wife had were so delicious. The sausage and brisket was spot on. The drinks, well of course were amazing. The staff did amazing. Our waitress apologized for not checking on us and we were good. Up until the past couple of months, I always ordered the pork spare ribs. They were juicy, tender and delicious. But recently Jack Stack removed them from the menu as a separate entre, and now you can only get them by ordering a pick-two or pick-three menu option. That was fine, except that they arrived dry and burnt. Tried again a couple of weeks later, but the same thing. So I decided to try the pork burnt ends. They were great - juicy and tender (this was in November, 2024). But last night (1/12/25), the park burnt ends were dry and burnt - I couldn't even get my fork through them. The waitress was kind enough to remove them from my ticket, but boy am I wary about ordering either the pork spare ribs or pork burnt ends now. Something has changed in the kitchen. Best time to go is during the week at Happy Hour! No waiting.
