And they were super accommodating when I asked for certain things to be removed since I don't eat dairy or egg. Excellent! The onion rings were great with the bbq sauce. When visiting, I went twice in three days! So many locals recommended Jack Stack and with good reason. It was perfect for a 3-person business meeting and also as 1-person take-out. We went into Jack Stack's for a late lunch, we walked in and waited a few minutes at the Hostess stand before someone came to greet/seat us. It was not busy at all but I believe a server was talking to her table when we walked in. She came over to greet us once she saw us, it was myself, my mom and a friend that we had brought up to Lenexa for an Eye Appointment. We were sat in the bar area since my mom stated she wanted to sit somewhere warm. The restaurant is beautiful with Old Pioneer Day pictures. The bar area was somewhat sectioned off-it had glass from the booths up-the bar area was very nice area with bar top dining and booths/tables. There is also patio seating for those nice warm days. Our server/bartender came and greeted us quickly upon us getting sat(I did not get her name-short dark hair friendly lady)she took our drink ordered and asked if we would like to try the jalapeño cornbread, onion rings or any other appetizer. I told her we would look first then decide. My mom ordered the cornbread when she came back and then we decided on our lunch. We all 3 shared the KC Combo with the 3 meats, I knew it would be enough for me and the other 2(older ladies that don't eat much)and it was a perfect amount. You could add another side like the cheesy potatoes! If you have not tried KC BBQ definitely hit up Jack's-they have several locations around KC and surrounding areas outside of KC. BBQ joints, much like burger joints, have to be rated on a different scale from a regular restaurant. If you specialize in a particular style, you need to be darned good at it to get a 5 star rating. Unfortunately, I feel that Jack Stack misses the mark. My TLDR would be "overpriced, mediocre BBQ". If you're not from a region that does BBQ, it might seem like their BBQ is good - but there is much better BBQ in Kansas City. I tried the "pick 3" to sample some of their options. Beef brisket, beef burnt ends, and lamb ribs. Each missed the mark of what I would consider excellent BBQ. The brisket was sliced thin and was relatively dry. The burnt ends lacked any effort at caramelization, they were chunks of trimming tossed on a plate with no additional effort to make them delicious, such as adding brown sugar. Still tender, but lacking flavor. The lamb ribs were good, but we're probably fattier than most people would prefer. If I think they're too fatty, that's saying something, as I prefer fattier cuts of meat. The cleanliness and service were fine - I sat at the bar since I was dining solo, so I was able to get my meal relatively quickly. I never thought I'd turn into a BBQ critic, but 10 years in the Carolinas has taught me what good BBQ is. There is good BBQ in KC, but I would honestly avoid Jack Stack and look for other options on "39th street". I think that Jack Stack is "fine" if you've never experienced a higher quality of BBQ. But those from TX or the Carolinas will recognize that this is not great BBQ, and this chain primarily relies on tourists or business travelers who want to experience "KC BBQ" and don't know any better. read more

We visited again last weekend and it was such a disappointing experience. We made a reservation for 6:45 and still ended up waiting, which is not necessarily a deal breaker, but it is annoying. Our server was amazing! She kept drinks filled, she was friendly and accommodating and checked on us often. What was disappointing was the food. My brother and husband both got burnt ends, which were cooked to perfection. I got the fire wings, which should have been called the burned to a crisp wings. They were so burned, I could not finish them. The meat inside was also very dehydrated and though the baked beans were piping hot, the meat in them was also burnt and tough. We got cornbread as an appetizer and it was not warm. I was so disappointed! Honestly, chicken wings do not take long to cook and should probably be cooked last. I will say that this location has an issue with inconsistent food temperatures, which could be a reason for their recent health department scores. The price point was about what you would expect for Jack Stack and I did appreciate the updated and succinct menus. This is one of the nicer, newer locations in the KC area but the older locations have them beat on food quality for sure. Went in on a Friday night. Made reservations for 730 no problem. This was our first time at this location. Parking can be a little challenging but to be expected on a busy night. We were seated right away in the bar area. Service was quick, friendly and efficient. I got the brisket, beef ribs and the burnt ends. It was all very delicious. The burnt ends were tender with good flavor. The sliced brisket was lean with a hint of fat. The ribs were spot on. My wife got the Turkey and brisket. We both got the beans and creamy corn. It seems rare these days to have a 5 star experience but Jack Stack in Lenexa nailed it on a recent Tuesday night. We were seated promptly with no wait. Our server arrived within a couple minutes and took our drink order and came out in less than 5 minutes. We ordered our food which came out in less than 10 minutes, hot and delicious. Drink refills were spot on AND I didn't have to wait for my check. Very annoying to have to wait for my check or to run my cc but all was very quick and efficient. I mean, if we're talking "fancy" bbq this is the spot to try. I mean, we could just be talking regular bbq and this is still the place to try! I say fancy because the restaurant is huge, with glass windows and an open looking kitchen so you can see the chefs at work back in the kitchen. I've ordered their loaded baked potato before as well as their BBQ shrimp and they've never failed with impressing me. I wasn't a huge fan of the cornbread, a bit dry for my preference, but again that's personal. Everytime I go, I get great servers who make my time there enjoyable! Disappointed with the portion size and value. I only received 2 of the 4 beef ribs that were advertised. The ribs themselves were small with very little meat--less than what you'd expect from pork ribs. The beef burnt ends portion was also small, and the meal overall was severely overpriced for what was served. A "large" side is just 8 oz. While the coleslaw was flavorful, it was still not worth the price. Overall, the quality and quantity didn't justify the cost. I recommend looking elsewhere for BBQ. read more

The chairs were comfortable. Service Our server is good at her job. She is friendly and enthusiastic. Also, she was able to sell us on the bbq beam which my girlfriend is not a big fan of beans in general. She kept up with my lemonade addiction and had a friendly attitude throughout the service. Food We got one of the samplers. It had wings, brisket, ribs and pulled pork. It also came with some pickled items I.e. pickles and pickled onions. We also got lamb ribs which are a KS exclusive. We also got some other items as well. - pork ribs I thought these were really good. They were moist and flavorful - fire-kissed wings A little dry for me but it is the pit fall for white meat. Flavor was really nice. Had a smoke taste but not burnt. - brisket It was a bit dry for me. I think I at one of the lean slices. - pulled pork This was also kind of dry. I think I needed a little more bbq sauce with it. - lamb ribs I rather enjoyed these meaty ribs. They had a smokey and salty taste to them. The smoke does mask the lamby taste. - coleslaw This coleslaw was nice. It had a slight citrusy flavor compared to just mayo. - cream corn Cream corn was just as you expect it to be. The sweetness of the corn works well with the creaminess of the sauce - Bbq beans These beans were full of bbq flavor. It had a hint of meat taste to them. - grilled salmon with blueberry bbq sauce The salmon was cooked perfectly. It was moist and paired really well with the sweet blueberry bbq sauce - bbq sauces They gave us a little cup of a regular, spicy and hot bbq sauces. I did not find the hot bbq sauce really hot. It did have a slight kick to it. Each were good but I should have asked for more. - lemonade (flavored) I have tried the blackberry, peach and raspberry lemonades. First of all, the base lemonade is really sweet. I normally drink Coke Zero , so the amount of sugar I drank was pretty intense. I liked the blackberry flavor the the most since it seem to distract me from the sugary blast the most. These was a strawberry flavor but I was unable to try that one. Overall This is a good solid bbq joint. Though it seemed a little upscale when the brought us bbq sauce in cups and not in plastic squeeze bottles. My descriptions for the food might not have done it justice. It was a well prepared dish. Though I might have thought things one, other might have though it was fine.
