According to all available sources this "restaurant" opens at 6 AM at 6:05 AM a worker casually strolled across the parking lot and went inside. Didn't even turn on the lights or anything so I knew it was gonna be a long time before I was gonna get my food. I went to McDonald's instead. If you're supposed to open at 6 AM, you should be able to serve food at 6 AM. Not make people wait half an hour until you get around to it.

Food is gross, workers don't care, management is apathetic. There's too many fast food options on greenback to put up with lackluster food and service.

    The rude drive-thru gal.

I had a hankering for a milkshake and remembered that I just received a bunch of coupons in the mail for Jack in the Box the other day. I asked my Pops what he wanted and off I went. Just as I was pulling in to the drive-thru, a car had finished ordering and was pulling ahead to pay. I was asked to wait a minute before she could take my order-she was pleasant about it. There was already a truck at the window. Sure, no problem, it's Friday night, people are out, I was in no rush and I brought my patience with me. When it was my turn to order, I told her I had a coupon for a regular milkshake for $3, but I needed to order two milkshakes. Her tone of voice changed and she snapped again "do you have TWO coupons"?! I replied no, but that's okay as long as it worked for one that would be fine. I ordered one strawberry, and one Oreo. She said I could pull up, but didn't offer the total cost for my order - my mistake for not asking right then. When I pulled around the corner in the drive-thru, I could see the truck was still at the window. It was at least another full minute before they received their bag of food, and left. Next up, the car that had just ordered as I pulled in to the drive-thru window. He was at the window for about 20-30 seconds before I heard him raise his voice and then her say something back. Before I could get my window down to hear what was going on, he pulled away. He was angry and left without exchanging any money or food. I pulled up, I handed her my card, and while I'm still holding the coupon sheet, a second gal said something to the first gal in Spanish, but ended with the word "coupon". The first gal runs my card while the second gal is explaining this, hands me the card back with my receipt, and pretty much runs away from the window. When I reviewed my receipt, she had charged me full price for both shakes! When I asked why she didn't include the coupon, she rudely replied "you didn't hand it to me with your card!" I explained I was still tearing it from the sheet (even as we were speaking the transaction happened so fast), but the second gal even reminded you about the coupon, please adjust the charges. Once again the first gal snapped at me and stated something to the effect of she 'can't change' it after it's run. I told her to cancel my whole order then. She happily obliged. She could have easily rerung the order with the coupon, but instead she let me drive off empty handed just like the car in front of me! I'm pretty sure the owner would like to know how much having her work the drive-thru window is truly costing him! I took pictures of the additional ways to contact Corporate. I think this girl needs to get off the drive-thru window, she might want to find another position that doesn't require her to interact with people. She's really bad for business!

Spicy Tiny Tacos- they were really good.

This review was from a few months ago. We came through the drive thru, when we came up to the window to pay & pick up our meals. The cashier was Michael and when I paid and received my receipt I mention that the tiny tacos were incorrectly charged $3.99, as per the Menu that I ordered from and showed them a picture of their menu board for proof $3.50 Tiny Tacos price. He brought over another worker Emma who by the way has an attitude and was argumentative with me. I asked to speak to a manager and she told me they had no manager today. As for the sign she said we can't change the menu or the price already in the computer register. I told her that is false advertising. Emma continued to prepare our drinks and didn't use a scooper and just put the cup in the ice bin to scoop in some ice. We received our food after some time. The food was prepared correctly and we all enjoyed our meal. I am giving this a 3 star rating due to the lack of good customer service and arguing with customers should never be acceptable by management.

The tacos are seriously good: packed with flavor, well put together, and exactly what you want when the craving hits. Now, is the service a little slow? Yeah... but let's be honest--it's Tuesday, tacos are $1.50, and everyone within a 5-mile radius had the same idea. You're not ordering fast food here, you're participating in a taco event. And really, at $1.50 a taco, what are we expecting--white glove service and a personal mariachi band? I'll gladly wait a few extra minutes when the end result is this good. Bottom line: great tacos, unbeatable price, and totally worth it. Taco Express proves that sometimes the best things in life are cheap... and come on a tortilla.

The downside is that they don't offer much in the way of salsas...they have a basic green and red and traditional pico. I LOVE flavorful and especially HOT salsas and sauce. They offer very mid flavored options. They also have a hard time making a breakfast burrito without eggs. I don't eat eggs. We have tried 6 times now to get an asada breakfast but with no eggs....just meat, cheese and potatoes. We have gotten eggs with it twice, once a folded quesadilla with french fries on top(?) and 3x now where it's meat cheese and dried out french fries instead of the potatoes that normally comes in the breakfast burrito. My husband loves eggs and breakfast burritos so it's always great for him. They're consistent and have value with their specials. They're just a very basic place in terms of cookery (pretty dry) and flavor. It's good for what it is; but definitely doesn't satisfy when you want that real taco truck craving.

However, this is my first time trying out their Fair Oaks location. Coincidentally, this restaurant is also on Madison Ave but roughly 4 miles east and adjacent to Fair Oaks Blvd. Located in a small strip-mall, this place neighbors other family owned-and-operated businesses that include "Fabian's Italian Bistro" and "Moth Hole Consignment Boutique". And to those of you locals that remember, this is actually where "El Gallo Mexican Restaurant" once stood from 2018-2024. I came here with my lady during the evening of Tuesday 6/24/2025 at around 6:00pm. The parking lot was packed with cars which I am assuming was a blend of El Balcon and Fabian's customers among others. One thing that really caught my attention was the generous outdoor patio as their Manzanita location does not offer. However, the big picture is on the inside of this place. First of all, it is way more spacious and secondly, they offer a full bar with some amazing top-shelf tequilas. The dining area itself has a main room but also an additional dining room with a ton of seating. Menu options are quite similar to their other location and I've got to say, they offer a huge variety of everything; tacos, burritos, enchiladas, seafood, and much more. They even offer a standard non-Mexican breakfast entree menu served daily from 9am-2pm. During our visit, we took full advantage of their "Happy Hour" special. And since it was a Tuesday, what better way to make the week better than tacos? I ordered two "Carnitas" tacos and one "Pollo" taco. Best of all, these were only $1.75/ea (as of summer 2025). The salsa bar is also very impressive with a huge variety of mid/hot salsas, jalapeños, radishes, limes, and fresh tortilla chips. Once placing our orders, our food arrives in a quick 5 minutes. And as you can see from the photo, they did not disappoint. Surprisingly, the real winner here was their red salsa as it offered the perfect balance of tangy and spicy. Both tacos were cooked to perfection as the seasoning on both the carnitas and pollo tacos tasted amazingly delicious. Even the owner/manager came over to our table to make sure we were enjoying our food. He was also full of enthusiasm and positive energy which showed how much he genuinely cared for his business and its customers. All in all, the Fair Oaks "El Balcon Taqueria" earns a unanimous five-star rating in my book. The amazingly affordable prices, top-notch customer service, convenient location, and delicious Mexican food earn all high notes from me. Best of all, they are open seven days a week from 9am-9pm. Come hungry and if you wish to partake in a cerveza or well drink, they will have you covered!

Now here's what made it even better--this used to be a Taco Bell back in the day, so let me just say... the taco energy in this building is deeply rooted. The tortilla spirits were already working overtime before I even walked in. I stepped inside, got greeted right away, and placed my order for carne asada tacos and a drink. Simple. Efficient. Exactly what the pre-movie mission required. But here's where things got impressive... I swear the second I paid, my food was basically already waiting for me like it had somehow known I was coming. And unless I missed someone hiding in the back doing ninja-level prep work, I'm pretty sure the young lady up front was running the whole operation. She was taking my order, working the drive-thru headset, handling everything, and still keeping it smooth like it was just another regular day. That kind of hustle deserves respect. Now let's talk tacos. These carne asada tacos came out hot, flavorful, and straight-up comforting. The kind of flavor that doesn't taste like "fast food trying to be tacos"--nah, these tasted like somebody's grandma would absolutely approve. And if the food gives "abuela would nod in silence and keep cooking," that's a compliment of the highest order. Every bite hit. The meat had flavor, the tacos were put together right, and for a quick stop before a movie, this absolutely overdelivered. The place was easy, the service was fast, and the whole stop felt like one of those hidden little wins you're glad you trusted. In all, Taco Express did exactly what it needed to do... Quick. Flavorful. No nonsense. Strong taco ancestry. And honestly, if this building was once a Taco Bell and has now evolved into this... that's character development. Will I be back? Yeah... because movie plans and tacos are a dangerous combo.
