Had the super torta with asada! So tasty! Huge portions! Bring your appetite! Attentive and fast staff. Free salsa & chip bar!

We had a delicious dinner served by a friendly guy. Restaurant was clean, self-serve chips and salsa were great. Agua fresca flavors were fresh and the overall feel was comfortable and warm. We ate tacos: Al pastor, chicken and a birria quesataco. The tacos come with a generous scoop of guacamole on top. It's amazing if you love guac (which we do!) and the quesataco is a quesadilla made into a taco. The birria beef tasted amazing and the consommé to dip it in was delicious. You'll slurp up the taco goodness! We'll definitely be back to this new restaurant soon. We're glad to have discovered it!

We tried this place because it was late, close, and the pictures of the food looked delicious. Food that looks good usually is good, right? The chips in the chips and salsa bar, free with food, are bagged, but nice thick, crispy chips. The pico is very fresh, seems just prepared, which is nice because in many places, while good, the pico is very mass produced and has almost a soggy nature. No pickled jalapeños and carrots here, escabeche, which is a bit odd for a taqueria, but they substituted other items that had a nice crisp freshness that was a nice counterbalance the heat in their salsas. The cucumber chips are cold and crisp, and delicious with a dash of salt and squirt of lime. They also had red onions with extremely light vinegar (I think) and thinly sliced habenero peppers with a bit of black Pepper that were very good. I do wish the onion slices were quartered not halved as the large sprigs of onion are hard to corral into a clean bite. These cold crisp veggies really pair well with their three hotter salsas while eating your food. The milder green sauce is good, but could use a bit of acid, salt or cilantro, as could the pico. The two hot marked red salsas are good, solid sauces. The star here is the extra hot...wonderful texture, heat that numbs, and flavor that says oh yeah, keep hurting me, but the perfect amount of heat which gives you a thrill, but doesn't overpower the entree. Really great stuff. I know, a lot about the chips and salsa, but for me, that's a major draw to taqueria life! My family of three had crispy shredded beef tacos, carne asada tacos, and I had the carne asada burrito. The beef crispy tacos use birria meat, no sauce. What nice here is this isn't a deep fried greedy taco. Thry use birria meat and the taco eats clean and crisp. It was slightly dry, however, and my wife said a spoonful of red sauce or squirt of an aioli would go a long way, and might also enhance flavor a bit. But very solid. My son had the asada tacos, and commented the tortillas were very good and tasted like maybe they made them. Strong, soft, tasty. Meat and guacamole above average. Rice and beans on both dishes solid but not spectacular, but good, they both said. Presentation on both taco dishes was excellent making the food look pretty--gave me some FOMO--and the plates look full. The burrito suffers in presentation. Foil wrap on a papered tray. But what's inside is pretty good! They grill the finished burrito so you get some nice golden brown caramelization on the tortilla which adds texture and taste. Great wrap, nice and tight, tremendously uniform shape, and even distribution of ingredients--often a big burritos issue, as you burrito fans know. It was good, though the mix was a bit heavy on beans and rice, and while I enjoyed it, I think more asada should be present. Pros: Above average food, definitely well good Very clean restrooms (this is important if you know food business, also if dirty, my wife will never go back) Clean restaurant, up to date tables and chairs, large open feeling space Salsas are good to great, and fresh cold items in the salsa bar are very welcome Very friendly staff They bring the food to you--not normal for taquerias and very nice Opportunities for improvement: When very slow as they were when we were in, do table checks, ask how the food is, offer to get extra salsa, love on the guests when you have the time! Taco presentation great, burrito presentation "here's your burrito" so maybe lose the foil, put a knife cut, open that burrito, show the layers, stand one up on its end, something like that. Also, a foil tube on a tray makes the burrito look small, and it isn't. Let me feel the value, it's there for sure. Food is good, but lacks a certain zip, a bam! I hate to say this because it sounds like I'm saying the flavor is meh and it's better than that, Overall: We are going back. This place is a B+/A- and has a certain healthy uniqueness in a somewhat homogenized taquerias market, feels like it's finding a happy place between a full service Mexican restaurant and a taco house. Yeah, there are some rough edges here and there, but while maybe they don't that professional smoothness some chains have--it feels very much like your aunties make good food and opened up a place--bit I think that'll smooth out over time, and I think they make up for it with authenticity and personality. The food is good, more California fresh than most in the segment, and that it's decidedly non corporate, just itself and not afraid to be different is refreshing and kinda fun. I'm curious to see how they evolve and want to help them get there. Try it, it's good.

This is a clean restaurant that has delicious birria tacos. They have unique dishes like Birria Ramen. Definitely will continue to come by and try this place more often. Not too busy, plenty of parking space as they seem to just be opening up.

Nice new Mexican restaurant off Winding Way. Family owned very friendly Brandon helped us out me and my brotha got 3 tacos el pastors and carne asada. Was very impressed the flavors worked well together, guac veggies and crispy barbecued meat. I loved both and we got a horchata on the house was also good. Great nacho bar with a good amount of different toppings to put on top labeled between mild to spicy which is very smart: Interior/exterior had a good amount of seating and different options from tables to bar stool areas. They close 10pm weekdays definitely will be back with our MGC youth!

Tacos by Tijuana is spacious and clean with standard tables along with bar-style seating. There's a chips and salsa station in the corner. On various visits, we encountered pleasant staff. There are large TV screens for shows or have music playing. I really enjoy the Birria Quesa-Tacos which come with Consommé. They make a cheese quesadilla with 2 corn tortillas, then load it with Birria, onions, and cilantro. These are a personal favorite and a repeat order for me. Other family members have enjoyed a variety of dishes, some of which include the molé enchiladas, chicken quesadilla (made with a large flower tortilla), and the carne asada tacos.

Omg this place is heaven! Everyone here is so nice and positive, which is right up my alley. Jenny is the best and the location is very safe. 12 out of 10 so make sure to tip!

Such a good spot & friendly people this is my husband's second time coming and my first! Thank you to the chef for the crepe, definitely will be coming back. Food was so yummy we forgot to take before pictures but we got chilaquiles verdes, torta de pastor, and kids pancakes.

My husband and I tried this new neighborhood spot and we'll definitely be back! The food was really good and authentic. We enjoyed the enchilada plate and chilaquiles. We were greeted as soon as we arrived and staff were friendly and patient when I asked a bunch of questions. Wasn't busy but I'm hoping their business picks up. Try it! You won't be disappointed!

My wife and I stopped by for breakfast and loved this place and the prices are really affordable. The service was amazing, I would highly recommend this place if you're craving Mexican breakfast or even American breakfast.

Inside the asada loaded potato with the extra hot salsa. It's spiiiiiicy! But delicious

This place is SO DELICIOUS! Second time we've been here. The hubs got the 3 asada tacos and I went for the asada loaded potato. OMG the loaded potato was deeeeelish! I ended up sharing with him because it was so much food. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The place is very clean and quiet. Definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for some good Mexican food. It's tucked away in the strip mall on the corner of Winding Way and San Juan next to the salons. Tried this place a few weeks ago...AND IT WAS AWESOME!!! The first impression was smaller diner, well kept (clean) open concept serving/dining area, and BEAUTIFUL art pieces. A few caught my eye as we walked in and I could not look away...that was at least until our server came up from the back. Cannot remember his name, but he was extremely nice and helpful. Served us with a smile and let us know that the sodas had free refills and there was a chip and salsa bar in the corner of the diner. We ordered our food, grabbed our chips and salsa and did not have to wait terribly long for our food. Our food was really good and the salsas from the bar were fresh and yummy! They let us take our time with eating and we felt unrushed despite the busyness of diners coming and going. We hope for longevity and success for this wonderful business! We will be back!

However, this is my first time trying out their Fair Oaks location. Coincidentally, this restaurant is also on Madison Ave but roughly 4 miles east and adjacent to Fair Oaks Blvd. Located in a small strip-mall, this place neighbors other family owned-and-operated businesses that include "Fabian's Italian Bistro" and "Moth Hole Consignment Boutique". And to those of you locals that remember, this is actually where "El Gallo Mexican Restaurant" once stood from 2018-2024. I came here with my lady during the evening of Tuesday 6/24/2025 at around 6:00pm. The parking lot was packed with cars which I am assuming was a blend of El Balcon and Fabian's customers among others. One thing that really caught my attention was the generous outdoor patio as their Manzanita location does not offer. However, the big picture is on the inside of this place. First of all, it is way more spacious and secondly, they offer a full bar with some amazing top-shelf tequilas. The dining area itself has a main room but also an additional dining room with a ton of seating. Menu options are quite similar to their other location and I've got to say, they offer a huge variety of everything; tacos, burritos, enchiladas, seafood, and much more. They even offer a standard non-Mexican breakfast entree menu served daily from 9am-2pm. During our visit, we took full advantage of their "Happy Hour" special. And since it was a Tuesday, what better way to make the week better than tacos? I ordered two "Carnitas" tacos and one "Pollo" taco. Best of all, these were only $1.75/ea (as of summer 2025). The salsa bar is also very impressive with a huge variety of mid/hot salsas, jalapeños, radishes, limes, and fresh tortilla chips. Once placing our orders, our food arrives in a quick 5 minutes. And as you can see from the photo, they did not disappoint. Surprisingly, the real winner here was their red salsa as it offered the perfect balance of tangy and spicy. Both tacos were cooked to perfection as the seasoning on both the carnitas and pollo tacos tasted amazingly delicious. Even the owner/manager came over to our table to make sure we were enjoying our food. He was also full of enthusiasm and positive energy which showed how much he genuinely cared for his business and its customers. All in all, the Fair Oaks "El Balcon Taqueria" earns a unanimous five-star rating in my book. The amazingly affordable prices, top-notch customer service, convenient location, and delicious Mexican food earn all high notes from me. Best of all, they are open seven days a week from 9am-9pm. Come hungry and if you wish to partake in a cerveza or well drink, they will have you covered!

We usually grab crunchy tacos or breakfast burritos, and it has turned into one of those places we keep going back to because it is just consistently fantastic. A lot of people remember when this was Gilberto's, and that owner was great too, but the new owner has really made this place special. You can tell she and her family care about what they are serving. Last week I stopped in for breakfast burritos and the chorizo was ridiculously good. Not just good. The kind of good where you immediately start thinking about when you can come back again. Her daughter was working that evening and looks so much like her mom it almost felt like copy and paste. She was on the grill while mom was eating, and then the owner got up and made me a sample birria taco. That was a dangerous move, because now I have one more thing on the menu I am going to keep ordering. The meat they make is seriously out of this world. Super flavorful, not greasy, not fatty, just really, really good. One of the things I like most is that this feels like a true family place. You might even see the owner's mom there, who is 80 years old and still helping keep the place clean. That says a lot right there. We come here all the time and will keep coming back. Support local businesses, say hello, and give this place a try. Totally worth it. And if you think prices are high, well... you can probably send that complaint to Sacramento.

By far the absolute worst mexican food I've had in awhile…read more I'll start with place was kinda funky, it's like an enclosed outdoor area when you walk in. There were tons of flies which I should have taken as a sign but still thought I'd give it a try. I ordered and then waited and waited and waited, 20 minutes goes by and people (not person) people who came in after me and ordered at the counter were getting their food which I didn't quite get. 30 minutes goes by and they finally give me my horchata which had some sort of flying bug floating on the top, like cmon how are you not gonna see that when making it or handing it to me? It was clear as day. 35 minutes later I get the 10 tacos and chicken torta I ordered. Seriously 35 minutes for tacos, and a torta! Between the wait, the flies, the obnoxious Jesus freaks and the putrid stinky door dash guy in there I quickly escaped. When I got home is when I knew I really F-ed up Honestly the chicken torta, we could not for the life of us figure out if it was really chicken. Way too salty which is never a good sign and tasted really old. Couldn't finish it. The tacos I went with were Al pastor, carnitas, and the one with bacon and potato. I'll start with the Al pastor and bacon potato one seriously had the consistency of wet dog food. I don't know what I was eating but it was mush and kinda gritty. You know there's a problem when the corn tortillas are orange from grease and fall apart too. Couldn't finish them. The carnitas I could at-least tell was meat but man talk about dry, tasted old and more like beef jerky. Cilantro was wilted looking and didn't look fresh at all. I will never be back not even if this was the last Mexican food place on earth would I ever come back. Save yourself the unpleasantry's and go somewhere else, anywhere else honestly.

This time started off a little rough, but in the end they made it right, which is why I'm writing this review. I placed a to-go order for steak, shrimp, and chicken fajitas. The order was repeated back to me correctly when I called it in. When I arrived to pick it up, the restaurant was extremely busy and the staff was clearly focused on serving the diners inside first, so my order took about an extra 25 minutes. Not ideal, but understandable given how packed the restaurant was. Unfortunately, when we got home and opened the bag, the fajitas only contained steak -- there was no chicken or shrimp included. I called the restaurant and spoke with the manager to explain what happened. At first there was some back-and-forth about possible solutions, including bringing the food back or only replacing part of the order. My husband had already started eating because he was hungry, so returning the food wasn't really practical. To the manager's credit, she took the situation seriously and actually called the owner at home to explain what had happened. Shortly afterward she called me back and let me know the owner approved remaking the entire order correctly at no additional cost. That completely changed the experience. For me, good customer service isn't about the money -- it's about making things right when a mistake happens. Once they stepped in and corrected the situation, it showed they value their customers and their reputation. Mistakes happen at every restaurant, especially when things are busy. What matters is how a business responds. Cantina Azteca ultimately did the right thing, and because of that we will absolutely continue to come back. Thank you to the manager and owner for making it right.
