Taco Express is one of those spots that just gets it right--great tacos at a price that almost feels like a typo. The tacos are seriously good: packed with flavor, well put together, and exactly what you want when the craving hits. Now, is the service a little slow? Yeah... but let's be honest--it's Tuesday, tacos are $1.50, and everyone within a 5-mile radius had the same idea. You're not ordering fast food here, you're participating in a taco event. And really, at $1.50 a taco, what are we expecting--white glove service and a personal mariachi band? I'll gladly wait a few extra minutes when the end result is this good. They have a great value for Taco Tuesday! I believe $1.50/ea for a choice of shredded chicken, shredded beef, and ground beef. They are basic meat cheese shredded lettuce tacos. The downside is that they don't offer much in the way of salsas...they have a basic green and red and traditional pico. I LOVE flavorful and especially HOT salsas and sauce. They offer very mid flavored options. They also have a hard time making a breakfast burrito without eggs. I don't eat eggs. We have tried 6 times now to get an asada breakfast but with no eggs....just meat, cheese and potatoes. We have gotten eggs with it twice, once a folded quesadilla with french fries on top(?) and 3x now where it's meat cheese and dried out french fries instead of the potatoes that normally comes in the breakfast burrito. My husband loves eggs and breakfast burritos so it's always great for him. They're consistent and have value with their specials. They're just a very basic place in terms of cookery (pretty dry) and flavor. It's good for what it is; but definitely doesn't satisfy when you want that real taco truck craving. read more

Taco Exxpress has become one of my favorite late night spots. I was so happy they opened this location up so I don't have to drive to Folsom for it. Now at the end of the day they are a drive thru fast food like Adalberto's or California Burrito, so I wouldn't ever recommend them over a sit down restaurant. What makes Taco Exxpress so great though is the portions, size, quality, and hours they are open. I love stopping by here for food late at night. Now despite the name, I don't recommend the crunchy tacos and I also don't recommend the bomb fries when Kikis is next door and it's just a worse copy of their food. But everything else I've had always hits. Just look at my picture of the burrito I got. Less than 15$ after taxes for a burrito the size of my forearm. I personally always enjoy getting the Fajitas with some tortillas that they include, and making myself a plate of Fajita tacos. Great cheap place that's open late with decent quality food (For a fast food location) and it's not too far of a drive! read more

For what it is, it's done well. Checked out the Taco Tuesday deal, $1 crunchy taco. Comes with: hard shell taco, meat, shaved iceberg lettuce, some shredded mixed cheese, and a sprinkling of fake parmesan cheese. All fresh ingredients as they state in their signs. Choose from ground beef, shredded chicken or shredded beef. Chicken was best. I'd bump it to 5 stars if they added a some diced tomatoes. And I'd pay $0.25 extra for a dollop of sour cream. And add some black olives like my beloved Taco Bravo. Yum! Mexican coke (looked like 12 oz) was $3.99. Horchata $3.25 for a 24 oz. Next time I'll ask about hot sauce as the tacos could use the additional flavor to help get the shells and fat to go down. Drive thru was hopping at 9:00 and the nice staffer said they'd just slowed down. Tables were clear and seemed clean. TV on football (aka soccer) game in Spanish. Restrooms were good - separate men's/women's (my preference) - had hand soap and good hand dryer. Cool they have a purse/coat hook up high near the hand dryer. And the sign above the dryer, cool artifact from Carl's Jr. While they're open late, until midnight, dining area closes at 10:00. Enjoy! read more

This place to start is a little chain, I've seen these location around Sacramento, but tonight my family and I stopped in for a bite. We were both my husband and I craving tacos. But did not want to drive out to the south area to get the real stuff. Because of traffic in the rain. The ambience is just no different than walking into a Carl's Jr.'s or an Adaberturos Upon arriving this place is just another fast food Mexican joint. It's nothing fancy nothing exotic. We both ordered the quesobirria plate , came with rice and beans and a Serrano and two limes that was pretty good. It was all right a little salty but all right. They messed up on my son's taco order as you can see from the pictures. They just threw it on a paper plate with meat and cheese, and the presentation was a little sloppy, and in my opinion, kind of gross looking. The pastor taco was extremely salty. I wasn't even able to eat it. It taste more like chorizo my husband said. Truly disappointing definitely better options of Mexican food around the area. Definitely will be our first and last time. I highly suggest possibly shopping around and going further south into the south area of Sacramento for decent Mexican food. This place is definitely no Bueno. read more

This location is in what used to be a Carls Jr. It is set up like a fast food restaurant, nothing fancy. A drive thru and lots of free parking. Order at a counter and wait for your number. The service was efficient and they were keeping the tables clean even with the high turnover. $1 hard taco Tuesday, it is packed for dinner. They make their own taco shells which are light then fill them with lettuce, cheese and choice of three meats. Shredded chicken, shredded beef and ground beef. This is a good taco but nothing too special. It feeds the masses and is filling. They also make their own chips, so they were light. We ordered al pastor nachos, the beans are good but the al pastor was unlike any I have had. Not to my liking and it was soupy. I would not order al pastor here again. read more

First time trying thia place, and I was sadly disappointed. Their salsa bar was sparse, the tacos consisted of dry meat, stuffed with lots of lettuce, them topped with a sprinkling of shredded cheese. In comparison, Carolina's garnished their tacos with guac and sour cream, and the 'value' items did not include rice and beans...how much can a scoop of beans and rice cost tue company? Even Taco Bell, though lacking the genuine hard shell, stuffs their tacos with cheese and diced tomatoes! After taking over the previous Carl's Jr location in this shopping strip mall in Fair Oaks, this taco place has been crowded and busy with their daily specials. We came here on a Tuesday, and they were very overwhelmed. Previously they offered $1 tacos, but now the prices are $1.50 each (still not bad). Flavors are OK for their crunchy tacos - the shells fall apart w/ some of the oils, and the ground beef and beef are a little blander than the chicken. Toppings are plentiful and the salsa/chips are decent. Their regular tacos/burritos are standard prices you'd expect from drive through Mexican restaurants. Overall, was an OK place - without their discounts (they do support military, LEO, and first responders), we probably may consider one of the other nearby taco stands for their tastier and better built tacos/burritos. Inside there is plenty of seating that isn't too crowded. Plenty of adjacent parking. read more

my last review for this chain was a while back. We visited the location on Freeport blvd in south sacramento and never returned because it seemed very expensive for a fast food restaurant. What was interesting, we frequently the south sac location on several occasions and the prices were decent - but prices increased exponentially on our last visit and we never returned. So, we saw this location and decided to give it a try. While ordering, i asked if they were affiliated with the one in south sac- and they were. So how was the food? We ordered their #5 combo: beef taco and cheese enchilada that came with rice and beans. the flavor was consistent with the other location and the price point was interesting. the #5 combo is almost $2 cheaper than the location in south sac And we were able to dine in an a/c building and not sitting on a wooden bench outside using plastic utensils. But there is a salsa bar with chips at this location too. overall...decent. read more

I went to Taco Express on a Monday afternoon. I used the drive thru which took maybe 5 mins or so. The menu has almost every type of taco and other related items you can think of including breakfast burritos. They also hv tacos for $1 on Tuesdays. I ordered the 2 beef tacos hard shell plater. The customer service was quick, friendly and excellent! I chose the option to purchase one shredded beef taco and one ground beef taco. It came with beans and rice. All the items were delicious. I hv to say the shredded beef taco was more flavorful than the ground beef. I will definitely return to try other items on the menu. P.S. the hard shell is lightly crispy. read more

The food is so good with fresh ingredients! The service is pretty quick when you're going through drive through depending on the time you go. We haven't ate inside yet so I can't tell you the ambiance. On Tuesdays they have $1 tacos which is a great deal. You can choose from 3 different meats (ground beef, shredded beef or chicken). Tried it our at their new location in Fair Oaks! I got the #1 with two chicken tacos, beans and rice. Added a soda and total was $16. I felt that was a fair price. The chicken meat was so juicy and flavorful! The crunchy taco shell was flaky, buttery and so crispy it just melted in my mouth! I love lettuce and they sure top it off with a lot! Arrived in sac area pretty early morning, en route up to South Lake Tahoe. my boyfriend & I were really craving a burrito for breakfast and lucky for us taco express was open early morning! Burrito was rather big, ate half and saved the other half. So so good my bf kept going on about how good his chicken super burrito was. My breakfast burrito was delicious. I added sour cream and avocado and that was the cherry on top!! We aren't from around this area but saw they have one in Fairfield which is closer to home so we will be back!! Super bummed out about this spot. We went in on a Tuesday and were so happy to see that they were running a special-$1 tacos!! We asked if we could get beans instead of meat and they said yes so we were stoked!!! The restaurant was pretty empty but a lady was sweeping the entire time we were there. She was making piles of debris everywhere and to get to the salsa bar or the bathroom you had to walk through the piles (there was no way to go around how she was sweeping). The tv was also BLARING the news. And when I say blaring, I mean it was so loud it was hard to communicate with the person at the cash register. But for $1 tacos, who cares, right?? Except they weren't even worth $1. They were the worst tacos I've ever seen or had. There was MAYBE a teaspoon of beans, a few shreds of cheese, and MOUNDS of lettuce. Best Mexican Fast Food in the area! Their street tacos are packed with fresh cilantro and onions and super flavorful!. The burritos are bomb. The salsa Verde is my favorite. The servers are always very sweet at the drive-through window. Highly recommend giving them a try. I've tried this place a few different times, really trying to like it. Their food is consistently bad. Everything is salty and has no flavor. Today I got the burrito ($15+ with taxes) and it is so gross. I didn't tip this time though I have in the past. After I paid, the employee asked if I wanted anything with it, so I said can I please have hot sauce. She said we have green or red and I said ok red please. Got the burrito and left, and of course no sauce lol. I would say it's my fault for not checking, but at the same time, they weren't busy and it was just me at the window. I just asked for it so how do you conveniently forget it?? Part of me feels like it's cuz I didn't tip, but that shouldn't be a reason why you don't give a complete meal to someone. I paid for the food you know? It's so irritating. The burrito is disgusting maybe the sauce would have saved it. I couldn't finish it so I threw it away.
