I do not recommend Jack Astors. I stopped by here with my family just to eat lunch on my way to Ottawa from Toronto. We decided to sit on the rooftop and this was definitely not a good experience. To start the music was very loud and childish which suited the extremely young servers who would mostly stand in the back looking at their phone. My father and I both ordered steak frites which we had to wait 30 minutes for and received two different cuts of meat. His piece was obviously not a good cut which is unacceptable for its high price. To top it off our food was swarmed by two bees and a fly who just would not leave. (My mom and I are both very allergic to bee stings.) It was outrageous and I never saw anything like it. We tried to accommodate to the unfortunate situation by continuously swatting them away and attempting to move but the bees would just not go away. It was obvious they were extremely attracted to something in this dish maybe the sauce. The restauruant needs to address this issue because how can you have these bees on the rooftop be so attracted to the food that you provide ruining the experience for the customer. Absolutely worst experience for first time visitor. French fries slightly warm, unbearable to eat - 2 minutes later. Fancy hamburger that cost $23.00 was nothing fancy to write about. Staying overnight in Kingston and ordered from the Jack Astor's site to get delivery. I don't know what delivery company they use but our drinks did not come with our order and when we phone the restaurant to complain they said there's nothing they can do about it. The courier email Was order@sircirp.com. There is no way to contact these people to get our drinks and jack Astors was no help at all. The man that answered the phone even asked his manager and she had no idea how to fix the problem. Very disappointed. read more

We stopped in while passing through town heading down the 401. We needed somewhere somewhat quick bit a sit down and not fast food. In Quebec this chain has a big menu, but this was limited to 1 page. Chicken sandwich was great, the nachos were ok and the buffalo burger and fish n chips were really underwhelming. Staff was attentive. Kitchen was slow and the place was rather empty mid afternoon. Would try elsewhere next time we're driving through. read more

My wife and I came here on a Saturday with great weather looking to have a patio beer. The staff was human and very nice, they got us to our table and handled drinks and food very quickly. We came here with a group of 10 on a Sunday night for dinner. The difference between availability over the weekend is nuts! We tried coming with a smaller group on Friday and were quoted wait times of 2-3 hours. On Sunday the 2nd floor of the restaurant was blocked off and it didn't seem like the patio was open since it was cooler that day. There were lots of open tables. The service was decent considering there were so many of us. A little bit slower but not horrible. I was trying to be healthy so I ordered the ahi tuna poke salad. This was more of the more expensive salads, presumably because of the fish. It was really a grand presentation when it came out. The fish was all on one section of the plate with the salad piled high in a heaping mountain. The entire plate was super seasoned - almost excessively so. Part of the salad was a tiny bit spicy - just a hit of heat. To immediately cancel out the health benefits of the salad, I split a "My Cookie Ate Your Brownie" for dessert. This was a giant chocolate chip cookie that was stuffed in the center with a brownie. The whole thing was warm and a bit melty. The outside edges of the cookie were still crisp while the rest was soft. This was really to die for. It was just right for 2 people. read more

As the manager of a youth hockey team, we were looking for a restaurant that could accommodate a large group while visiting Kingston for a tournament. I had visited a few weeks prior with another team and was impressed with how well the staff managed both the delivery of the food and beverages. Our party was just over 50 people in size. To make things easier and faster, we sent ahead our order the day before, tagging the orders by the jersey number for each player. We were seated in the upper section, which was out of the way of other patrons, but gave a great view to the large TV screen below us. They accommodated our request for a large table for just the players, with the other family members seated in tables around the main table. Becca and Isaac were the servers assigned to our party and both were fantastic. Using crayons to write the jersey numbers on the table, it made it easy to locate the players and their families for the delivery of food and the bills. Drinks and appetizers came quickly, while the main courses were a little longer, however only about an hour for everyone to receive their meals. Feedback from the families was very positive, both for the food and ambiance. Adults enjoyed meals ranging from Classic Burgers, Naked and Afraid Chicken Tenders, Wings, Mucho Nachos, Chicken Clubs to Steak Frites. Most of the kids enjoyed the burgers, chicken tenders and pasta, but smaller portions. Becca and Issac kept beverages full as well, always delivered with a smile. Our team, and our families would be happy to recommend this establishment for larger groups, and many have said they will visit again on their own when they're in Kingston. Great place! Be sure to be seated on the rooftop if possible. The hostess asked if we wanted outside but we didn't know it was rooftop so we passed. Gnats are bad, especially in the second floor restroom. Although we were inside the flies and gnats were bothersome. Our waitress was terribly slow. We were looking for another place to go when she finally came with menus. The food was good! I had the pad Thai and my husband had one of their chicken dishes. My husband wanted another beer but our waitress didn't come back until we were finished eating. I would give them another chance, but we would definitely sit in the rooftop. read more

The rooftop patio gives a great view of the bell tower and the whole city. Wonderful vibe and music. Food were great, and the green cocktail goblet was huge (and very pleasant to view). Love the lobster and crab dip especially as it was neither too bland nor too salty. Will come back again if given another time to visit Kingston in summer. read more

Went with a large group for a celebration on a Thursday night. Ordered the Chicken Parm Pasta. Chicken was cooked pretty well, had a lot of flavour albeit a tad bit salty for my liking but it was complimented well with the layer of cheese on top and the tomato sauce. The pasta was average, nothing unexpected there. Overall, not bad. I did see one person in my group order the footlong (or 2) nachos and that looked pretty good so next time definitely order that to try. DO NOT GO HERE IF YOU ARE AMERICAN OR HAVE AN OUT OF PROVINCE ID! Hands down one of the worst restaurant experiences I have had. I was shown to my table and no wait staff returned for over twenty minutes, so I went up to the bar to ask if I could order a drink. We had reserved a table for a party of 11 for a 21st birthday party. Staff are not trained on customer service or how to properly read an ID. I have never had a less understanding, more hostile conversation with a bar manager. I am from Vermont and my friend is from Alberta. They would not accept any of our IDs despite the fact that we presented them with over 6 pieces of valid identification between the two of us. I am less upset about the poor training that resulted in our server not being able to read an ID that was from outside of Ontario, because while still disappointing, it was nowhere near the unprofessionalism we encountered from the bar manager. They claimed our id's were fake, despite no proof and not scanning them (they're real, they would scan). The experience was so negative that we left without ordering anything, and Jack Astors lost eleven customers as the result of poor training and customer service. A bar manager that cannot properly read multiple real ID's has no business being in charge of alcohol sales. An extremely unfortunate 21st birthday party experience, I suggest taking your business elsewhere. read more

Last evening, I took my daughter to JA in Kingston. I have been going to this restaurant regularly for many many years and have always enjoyed the staff and the environment. We decided to sit at the bar. I do want to mention we were not in a rush. While I was in the ladies room, my daughter ordered two martinis and two water, as well as asked for menus. When I sat down our cocktails had arrived but no water. We looked at the menus and waited for approximately fifteen minutes. The bartender came back, apologized for taking so long and brought us water. I then said I would like to order food as well as we had been waiting for some time. It as obvious he was not happy with this statement. He became short and abrasive. The food arrived in an acceptable amount of time. We ate and again sat for an extended time, waiting to order a second drink, again for about fifteen minutes. He eventually took our plates. We asked if we could order another drink but he said there were no clean martini glasses (?). I told him it didnt matter to me if it came in another glass. He then brought my daughter a drink a few minutes later and did not provide one to me. He then left the bar area to speak with other customers. We again waited for another ten minutes. Another staff member was behind the bar so my daughter asked if they would be able to provide me with my cocktail. He explained that he actually wasn't working but would get the attention of the bartender. The other staff member (who was lovely) walked over to the bartender who was speaking to customers at a table and just pointed us out suggesting he provide service when he could. Actually, I assumed he forgot us as it took so long. My daughter was nearly done her drink. He looked irate, came over to us, picked up my daughters glass and said he wanted us to leave. I was shocked. I asked him for the reason, and he wouldn't provide it to us. I asked to speak with the manager. We spoke with the manager, who stated he recognized us both as we had been in the restaurant many times. I asked him if he could explain why we were being asked to leave. He essentially stated the bartender had made this decision and he could not reverse it. We told him that we had no desire to stay there, but wanted to make it very clear that his staff's behaviour was unacceptable. The service was extremely poor, and the bartender was rude and hostile towards us. My daughter explained she has worked in restaurants and understands they can be stressful but she had never experienced anything like this. While we were standing and walking out with the manager (Ryan), the bartender (Tom) was smiling/laughing and waved at us more than once. We pointed this out to the manager. How rude and juvenile. Definitely the best place to go if you love slow service. Our waitress Kailee enjoyed talking to her friends behind the bar more than checking in on us. Over our 2 hour stay she managed her way over to us a total of 2 times. Drinks took 40 minutes to receive and the food you wouldn't even want to believe. We could see our drinks waiting on the bar for our waitress to pick up but she never did. Blamed it on being busy but would stand and talk for 30 minutes without ever doing any actual work. Overall the worst experience i've ever experienced in kingston and would never come back due to the lack of respect for their customers. Wish we could give it a 0/5. First of all, Jack Astor's is a restaurant chain, so all locations have a very similar menu, developed by executive chefs. Therefore, you can't expect spontaneous, bespoke culinary creations, and I write this review with those parameters in mind. Nevertheless, the executive menu offers some original and refreshing tweaks on oft-served dishes, and is updated frequently with new menu items. I have eaten mutliple times at various Jack Astor's locations throughout Ontario, but Kingston's Jack stands out, in a very positive way, for several reasons. This review is based on several visits. 1. The space: three floors of seating in various configurations, including a roof-top patio with a fresh and lively vibe (weather permitting, of course) 2. The consistent thoughtfulness and courtesy of the waitstaff. Kudos to the manager, because he somehow manages to find and train helpful, amusing, confident waitstaff. Sadly, this is not true at every Jack's location that I have visited, but Kingston has it right! 3. The helpfulness of the hosting staff is outstanding, and evidenced when I made a reservation (yes! They took a reservation. Not all of the other locations will do that). I was asked what type of seating I prefered, and was given various options from which to choose. Wow , that's nice, and we were a party of three, so a bit awkard to seat. 4. Again, the warm welcome and service that we recieved made us feel so comfortable. Waitstaff was attentive and chatty, without either breathing down our necks or over-talking. 5. Did I mention "bespoke culinary creations"? Well, guess what, this location will tweak your order in multiple ways. Substuting tofu as your protein is no problem here (I've had locations refuse to do it), as is adding extra or less spice or sauce. When I asked for extra garlic for my pasta, my server asked if I would like this in the form of garlic butter or garlic added to the food. I've never ever been given this choice before, and I ask for extra garlic everytime and everywhere that I order pasta. This brings me to my next point. 6. The waitstaff are well-informed about menu choices and do not hesitate to offer considered and helpful advice. None of the evasiveness that I often encounter (sample evasive recommendation: "It's all good; it just depends what you are craving."). Not in Kingston: our server confidently voiced her recommendations, and this is consistently the case in Kingston. The City of Kingston offers, arguably, one of the finest culinary experiences in Canada. This also extends to the world of Jack Astor's where the Kingston location really shines. read more

Kingston has stiff competition when it comes to restaurants, considering all the amazing local spots. Although this is a chain restaurant, this location really stands out, and we eat here often! The margaritas are absolutely delish, not too sweet at all. I always order the chicken fingers (I opt to get them tossed in buffalo sauce) and upgrade to sweet potato fries or the poutine. A bit expensive for a chain, but the food quality is top notch. Chicken fingers sound like such a standard dish, but not here. They're impossibly tender and succulent, battered to perfection! My family of 8, party of 8, went for lunch for my daughter's 18th birthday. We wanted to eat in the patio but they wouldn't accommodate 8 people with tables together. Our tables were separated. After 2 years in lock down and we finally get together and we can't eat at the same table. But if we wanted to sit inside they can accommodate 8 people eating together. I can't believe they couldn't put 3 tables together to accommodate us in the patio. There is more chance my family can catch COVID 19 when sitting inside than outside and they couldn't accommodate us outside sitting in one table. Ridiculous!! This was the first time visiting a Jack Astor's and let me tell you my friends and I were not disappointed. While driving through Kingston we decided to stop for lunch and Jack Astor's sounded like a good place that had a lot of options to choose from. The roof top patio was so nice while we ate, we were able to enjoy the city view. On a nice day you should totally ask to be seated on the rooftop (only downside was we were there in October and the bees were terrible but that's what happens when being outside!!!) I ordered the chicken and goat cheese wrap and it was to die for, so yummy!!! If looking so something light and delicious I would recommend it. The sangria there is also very good! The staff was warm and welcoming. They were very attentive as well, I never felt like I was waiting for someone to fill my water glass or take the dishes away. If I could give it to zero Stars I would. Do not under any circumstances go here for the food unless you are a broke student who hasn't had a meal in weeks. I got the ahi tuna mango salad I got four of the tiniest pieces of ahi tuna and then basically a bowl of lettuce, no creativity. My friend got the beer soup which was cold my other friend got the burger jacked up which look like McDonald's and my other friend got the tuna guacamole which look like dog food and didn't smell any better. On a recent visit to Kingston we had occassion to stop at Jack Astor's. Some how we ended up with the best seat on the patio and while that view was exceptional and the food was even better the staff were what made the visit the best. Okay.....the staff here is real friendly, menus prices are okay. For example a bacon cheeseburger with a small side of fries.....$13. Middle of the road for price I guess. This restaurant offers many seating options including a balcony terrace, when weather permits. Food is always good but the establishment has a tendency to be a little noisy. That said if you are looking for a nice place to sit and have a conversation with someone significant....this may not be the place. The crowd is mixed but since Kingston is a university city...the crowd is a little younger. All said, another typical sports bar, just a little larger than most. Give it a shot, you won't be disappointed. If you go to the website to read reviews....they are biased.
