Mushroom Risotto
Jim F.

I try not to write a review on just one visit, good or bad, it's hard to tell with just one data point. Over the course of 9 days in Kingston for the 2020 Brier we had 3 meals here: two with reservations and one ad hoc (we ate corn dogs at the bar). Service was top notch, no constant disturbances of "is everything OK" but waitstaff were always available if needed. Food was fantastic -- roasted beet salad, multiple orders of Fr Onion Soup, the Cassoulet is to die for!, Mushroom Risotto, Beef Short Ribs Bourguignon and, of course, the corn dogs! Well stocked bar and mixologists were quite skilled; we quite enjoyed the Chien Caesars and Dee's Fig Fizzes. I need to figure out another reason to come to Kingston, just to return here for a meal...

Pick 5 Charcuterie Board

The brunch menu available online is not the same as the menu in restaurant, so some of the items were not available. Of the food that was ordered, everything was very good! The standout item was the soup du jour which was a roasted carrot curry soup; it was so delicious that we ordered a second one. The service was friendly and attentive. The back patio is also a great place to eat if you want to be outside but also out of the sun! We were the only ones seated outside for most of our meal so it was quite quiet.

Duck confit
Riley D.

Pretty great, and doing a great job during Covid. The duck confit was especially perfect.

Delicious omlette of the day lunch (maple with bacon) and frites.

Good food service painfully slow. A bit expensive. We've been going there for years but it seems to be going downhill

Passed by this place a couple of times and I always thought it was just a hotel establishment but…read moremy friend was convinced there was a restaurant hidden inside. Finally went inside to confirm and then made a reservation of that night on their outdoor patio area. The vibe is really nice since the patio is it's own separate area with some really nice...tiling? Idk it just feels really premium and good vibes outside. Ordered the Nabulsi Cheese small plate as well as the Pan Seared Flat-Iron Steak as the recommendation from the server. I'm really not that well versed in fine dining or just more pricy places, so this was a relatively new experience on my end. The nabulsi cheese plate was exceptional. The blend of flavours (olives, tomatoes, shallots) were really nice mixed together. The cheese was amazing, chewy and just great texture all on a nice sliced baguette. Kinda like a flavour explosion which was amazing. Definitely try the cheese plate. The flat-iron steak wasn't you typical steak cooked along with a potato side (mashed or fries). The steak was paired with a quinoa mix, "panca pepper demi and aji verde" which were the dark brown/black sauce and the green sauce in the picture. Steak was super tender and with both sauces were phenomenal. On the same vein as the nabulsi cheese plate, these dishes are literally flavours I've never tasted before and they were amazing. I never really tried quinoa either and was skeptical as to how it would pair alongside steak but it was actually quite nice since the texture was so different then the other things we ordered. This place is the definition of a hidden gem for me. Not even a Yelp page (woohoo another business added!) and not signage outside indicating what it is. Hopefully this review gives it it's much needed appreciation! 5 stars easily.

What to say about Red Sun that hasn't already been said- the restaurant is one of, if not, the best…read morethat Oswego has to offer. Fresh ingredients, delightful flavors, a curated menu and freshly made deserts! We have frequented this restaurant each time we are in town and truly. It never disappoints. From the appetizers to the main courses to the cocktails- Red Sun delivers. On our most recent outing I had the Pig and Swig pizza- fire roasted with pork sausage, broccoli, red onions, red pepper and mozzarella this was absolutely delicious! We shared the fire roasted wings too which were amazing! I had a cocktail- which sadly I cannot remember the name of but I do know that it has my favorite gin- Empress. Red Sun is one of the very few restaurants in Oswego to carry this delightful brand- and it makes me super happy! Laurie the owner, has been in business for quite a while in Oswego and also owns the delightful Port City Cafe right next door as well as the new and exciting Lorbird in Fulton- another amazing experience. We were so fortunate to meet and spend time chatting with her and let me say- this lady knows her stuff. Most inspiring is that she knows her customers and their tastes and she knows how to be successful! Red Sun is an absolute must when visiting Oswego- you won't be disappointed! It's an elevated experience that I truly hope will inspire other establishments to rise to!

While we were wandering we found PJ Murphy's! It's a pub style restaurant with a bar on one side and tables and booths throughout. There are well situated TVs closer to the bar and they were showing the hockey games at the time. It was a cooler day and we had to wait a bit before being seated which was fine because they have a real fireplace right by the doors for you to warm up. They were able to seat our party with some rearranging of tables. The host that led us to our seats warned us that it was a busy night and apologized in advance for the service being slow. It was nice of him to do so but it was actually quite reasonable! Their menu featured many Irish themed dishes. I don't think it was just for St Patty's Day so you get to enjoy it anytime. The Irish stew sounded pretty irresistible and it was! It came plated very stylishly, more than I would have expected for a pub! The stew was very hearty with LOTS of meat and carrots, potatoes, and onions cooked to perfection. There was also a large puff pastry that was served on the side. This was seasoned generously and a wonderful accompaniment. I thought it was pretty unique addition. My boyfriend ordered the Shepherd's Pie. This was another modern plated dish. The pie filling could be seen quite well as there was only a swirl of potatoes in the middle, kind of like whipped cream on a dessert which was not exactly as expected. It was also a much smaller portion than my entree so he wound up eating some of mine. The service really wasn't bad at all! Drinks and food were received in a timely manner and we were offered refills too. When it came time to pay for the cheque, they were willing to let us each pay separate which was no small feat for a table of 7 and was much appreciated by us.

What a great end to an already great day in Prince Edward County…read more We came for dinner after being delighted by the vinegars at Black Prince Winery and the liquors at Kinsip Spirits. FYI the gps took us to a collection of buildings called The Warehouse which contains a fancy lodge, a reception area, and a few other things. This restaurant is located past/behind the Reception building and immediately adjacent to the Cookery. Perhaps because of the hot weather and perhaps because it was a Monday night, there was almost no one there and we got the pick of any of the dining areas they offered (garden area, dining room, bar, standard, and patio). We opted for the patio and enjoyed being the only ones there even though it was a bit warm. Seriously, this place is huge and can probably accommodate 100 tables or more despite it looking like a cute, ivy-covered, European-inspired cottage. We opted for the Crispy Chicken Sandwhich and the Fish and Chips plus a beer (Parson's Westy Pale Ale). Our server was so sweet, bubbly, and helpful. I wish I could remember her name but she had long dark hair worn back in a ponytail. She knew a lot about the menu, including the sweets, and helped us choose the Coconut Cream Pie for dessert. The food itself was delicious! Chicken in the CCS was sweet and tangy with great texture and crisp, and the sandwhich was really well balanced with the pickles and slaw. I love me some spice, so I would have opted for a spicy sauce over a sweet one, but it was still a great sandwhich. The house salad it came with was yummy too--greens, cucumbers, and carrots with pepitas and a creamy apple cider dressing. I didn't try the fried fish in the FnC, but SO said it was pretty good. The fries were perfectly cooked and seasoned with flaked sea salt. The Coconut Cream Pie was excellent. The pie filling was light and creamy and not super sweet, and the crust was definitely homemade graham cracker with a lot of extra sweetness to complement the light filling. I must say it wasn't the best CCP I have ever had (Tartine in San Francisco makes one simply out of this world) but it was still really nice. Overall, great experience and will return.
