This location now goes by the name, "Jack's." Like, Will and Grace's, just "Jack." We made reservation for 6pm on a Saturday for our group of 6. We arrived on time and but still had to wait a bit for a table. It's a very casual place. I remember coming to Jack Astor's in my teenage years. They had the entire table covered with brown paper to crayon on, now it's just a brown paper runner. Talk about shrinkflation. We ordered a crab dip, loaded bacon poutine, fish tacos, chicken tacos, a pasta dish, sweet potato fries, chicken burger and buffalo Mac and cheese. Unfortunately they were out of the birria tacos. We booked for a "Father's Day Dinner" and what a disappointment! It had been years since we were there. I ordered the "Chicken Parm" and noodles and sauce was very unappealing. I asked for some extra sauce and it was brought to me "cold" and when mixed with my dinner it was disgusting. I also asked for some bread (thinking that it was included), it was not and it cost $9.99 for a some non-tasting bread with an hint of garlic. Our last 2 visits were good but this one was off. We came in at 8, party of 4. My chicken fingers were great and my husband's club sandwich was great. My daughter got an order of sweet potato fries and I don't know if they dropped the salt shaker on them or sweeper them off the floor. they were inedible they had so much salt crusted on them. The server removed them from the bill. Next my son got a cheeseburger nothing fancy. It wasn't cooked and very pink/red inside. He was turned off eating anything else so he didn't say anything but that's a big deal. We just got back from the USA where you can order a burger medium but this is Canada and should be well done. It's a nice place inside with a cool bar. The waitress was very friendly. They write the time you arrive on he paper table cloth to determine how long you have been waiting, that's interesting. I was not sure on the soup and the waitress brought over samples of their beer/cheddar and asian noodle. I liked the beer cheddar and went with that. It doesn't have a strong beer taste, very tasty. We both ordered the chicken fingers and I ordered their famous pan bread. Both were cooked perfectly and the pan bread sitting in a pool of garlic butter. So i was there for one of my family members 10 birthday and some of my family members didn't get there food so we asked and asked and asked and nothing so then the server said "I'll go get the cook" so she went and got the cook and the cook was like "UR FOODS THERE ITS J FREEZING AND MY DISHWASHER QUIT!!!" tell me how does the DISHWASHER quitting have to do with me getting food? exactly it doesn't then the server came back and we said "you were suppose to bring us r food and it's j sitting there like why didn't u bring it" and she got really mad and said and i quote "JUST GO" so we asked for the manger and the manger came wouldn't tell us her name hid her name and we finally got the name out and had to call the store owner to get this sorted out at the end of the day don't recommend terrible services very very rude servers and not even that good of food at all read more

This is not a complaint it's an FYI. I ordered a Cesar salad that was about $15. I got the chicken on top as well at $5. When the salad comes the chicken kinda hides the rest of the salad. I enjoyed the chicken and part of the salad but when you get passed the chicken I noticed that it was missing bacon, parmesan, onion crisps and the croutons. At this point I have half a bowl of $15 lettuce. Because I ate most of the meal we received $5 back. Not great but something. Ps - also got poutine that was cold. Since Ancaster is devoid of a bar or restaurant to sit enjoy a beer and watch a sporting event, Jack Astor's in the Meadowlands is easily your best bet. Yes, I want my sports bar to play sports on television. Yes, I would like it to be on a television that isn't 24 inches, which was purchased at a garage sale twelve years ago, that is somehow tucked away in a remote corner of the establishment. At Jack's you know you're going to be able to sit in the bar area, enjoy the company of friends, a wide variety of beer on tap, and of course, several large televisions that have the biggest games of the night on. The bar staff is also very prompt and friendly, always asking whether you're in the mood for a bite to eat, a beverage, or both. I've yet to attend when I haven't been impressed by both the service and the cleanliness of the entire establishment. As a rather large sports fan, when the big game is on, I usually like to hear the play-by-play commentary. After all, if you're a bar and you're going to have sports on, why have it on mute?!? Every request I've made to the bar staff to switch from the music to the game commentary they've happily obliged, even when I mentioned if it was going to bother anyone then they need not worry about putting the commentary on. In my opinion, this is just one example of the outstanding service I've received countless times at this particular location. I haven't ventured into their menu too often, but when I have the food has been good and I've yet to really have a complaint about it. My only reservation is that I find them closing early at times, even going as far as asking patrons to pay when the bar area was almost at capacity. read more

Really enjoyed it, and my calamari was cooked properly...tender and not overcooked into rubber bands. Our server was quick and fun and we got a laugh out of the funny t-shirts they all wore. Went out for dinner with the girls, my wife, 9 and 6 year old daughters. We were all very hungry. Had a great waiter named Pat, who was genuine and professional server. Order was quick, Food came quickly. Tasted great, everyone cleaned there plates. Dinner for 4 couple drinks lots of laughs for under $75 with fantastic service. Jack Astor's Ancaster, Ontario What we've ordered: Sweet Potato Fries, Smoky Jack's Burger, Chicken Club Sandwich, Vanilla Coke, Holy Smoke Burger, Gaucho Poutine, Caesar salad. We visited Jack Astor's about a year and a half ago, it was a different experience then because we went to discuss getting another kitty so we weren't focused really on the meal or the service. We just couldn't wait to get our new kitten, Cairo. So we decided to visit Jack Astor's again, this time with a review in mind. This restaurant has a tiny parking lot, so it's hard to tell if it'll be busy inside or not. We went on a busy Friday evening, and it turned out to be very busy but we were still seated quickly. I love that they write the time of arrival on the table, so you know they care about fast service. We were greeted with our waiter in a matter of minutes, also writing his name on our table, Jordan. This tells us that they are confident about not making many mistakes, especially when they offer a survey afterwards. We will never forget Jordan, he was super friendly, was excited by our meal choices and seemed genuinely interested in making our time great. When a waiter doesn't have to write down what you order and there are no errors with your meal, that's impressive. He even offered an upgrade on our meal in a way that didn't seem like just an up sell. Service in general at Jack Astor's was the perfect experience; you even get the door held for you. The menu is somewhat hard to read because the font is too small and there are no pictures. We were surprised because Jack Astor's has so many very interesting meal choices, but most of them are not described well enough. The menu seems bland and once we found what we wanted to eat, we stopped looking at it. The selection though is great, you can get pretty much anything you want at Jack Astor's for a reasonable price and the upgrades to combos are unique to this restaurant. The restaurant was very clean; especially noticeable were the clean picture frames everywhere. The hallway between tables was relatively small and there was a lot of foot traffic; looked like they had the entire staff working that Friday. I don't understand why having revealing clothing is a uniform in so many restaurants, the miniskirts were frighteningly short and left nothing to the imagination but the shirts had interesting sayings on them. All the Staff were very friendly though to everyone including other staff members and tables that weren't their responsibility. This restaurant has a fun environment, lots of televisions and fun chalkboard drawings. For being such a busy time it wasn't too loud in the restaurant, even though it was full of people. The food that was presented to us, incredible! Like I mentioned before, they don't advertise enough how special their menu options are; even my Caesar salad was unique! They put some sort of seasonings on it that gives it a tangier taste and they use real bacon and fried onions on top, none of that was even mentioned on the menu. My Husband and I chose the same burger because it had absolutely everything you'd ever want on a hamburger. Served on a pretzel bun; a huge patty and a slab of pulled pork with fried onions and three, thick slices of cheese, this was the ultimate burger. The barbeque sauce they use was exciting and it literally surprised me when I took my first bite. Lucky for me, I even got two top buns! The poutine was unique and it had such a rich taste because of the feta cheese and the spices used. Our only complaints were that the plates were too small for such an epic meal and the poutine wasn't as warm as it could've been but everything had so much flavor, we were not disappointed. Overall, Jack Astor's was a wonderful restaurant. We loved the service and the meal so much; we want to return at the earliest convenience. The incredible flavours have us wondering what other great food choices we have for next time. We openly complimented our server, Jordan on the incredibly fast and perfect service we received. Jack Astor's is doing everything right as a restaurant. The service and pricing are pretty reasonable at Jack Astor's and their garlic pan bread is amazing! Not a very wide selection of vegetarian food but the cheese quesadillas are delicious and filling. My boyfriend loves the peppercorn chicken pasta. This is a great place to go before checking out Silvercity movie theatres just down the road. I have been eating at Jack Astor's for years and have never had any problems. Once I received chicken in my quesadilla and they replaced my order and eliminated the meal from the bill. My family and I are frequent visitors to this Jack Astors location as we have a few menu items that we just love and cannot replicate at home. I also enjoy time away from home and to get myself out of the kitchen. We recently went for our bi-weekly night out and I have never been so disappointed. We sat on the patio this evening and was faced with a server who couldn't be bothered by our desire to enjoy our evening. We communicated our request to enjoy our drink and we would let her know when we were ready to order. She continued to walk by and ask until we finally ordered out of pure frustration. We also ordered another round with the hopes that we would be able to enjoy these drinks. The server who brought the food out a male was visibly annoyed with all I can see his life in general. The two servers that brought our drinks out after our meal arrived did not crack a smile and seemed as though their faces would literally crack if they did. As I looked around this patio and began to take notice of all that is wrong because lets face it when faced with this type of service that is a natural reaction. The flower pots were full of dirt and dried out dead plants from the previous year. Every server that walked out onto the patio looked utterly miserable and our server seemed to save her smiles for what was obviously a table of close friends of hers. I did submit this review also on the Jack Astors survey with the receipt number so the actual servers name was on there. I hope it reaches the owner/manager. As a business manager myself I truly understand the importance of quality service and the impact on the business. Like I have said in the beginning of this review we frequent often for more times then none we have been satisfied. This last time needs to be addressed as it was pure misery. I would hate to see what life was like in the kitchen that night or where in the world the manager was. Manager needs to be held accountable for the staff on this particular night and the owner should be aware of the impact on his/her profits. Lets face it we are all in this to make money.
