My family stopped in J.A.Buffet last night on the way home from Allentown. We are a family of 6 with 4 young boys; 6, 9, 11 and 12. With a larger family we are on a tight budget so all my boys know that we drink water when we go out to eat. Everything seemed fine until we received our bill for $78.00. I politely approached the front desk and asked if there was a mistake because we have children and all 6 of us ordered water. "Everyone pay same price". So again I asked about the drinks. "All drinks included. Pay same price". Now I was starting to loose my patience so I started to look around. There are no prices listed anywhere and no where does it mention drinks included or that everyone pays the say price. So I asked again about where it the prices are posted. "Its steak night. You first time here". Oh....so now its steak night. That would have been good to know before I went to pay my bill........maybe we would have ordered steak knowing my wife and I and all my kids were going to get charged for steak without eating steak. Here was the kicker. I politely told the lady "Well, I will never eat here again." She shrugged her shoulders and lifter her nose like she could care less. I was appalled. I guess they think that since their Buffet is right next to Cabelas and Rt 78 that people will just eat there and be unhappy and traffic will just keep coming in. I read the other reviews and they are very similar. This place is a scam and they should be ashamed to be called a restaurant. From start to finish I was not impressed at all. In fact, I'm waiting to be turned over in pain and worshiping the porcelain God. Being a buffet, you would think there would be hits and misses. However, to miss on everything is just a mystery to me. From the over salted vegetables to the bland...well everything that didn't have salt...this place missed the mark. All the sushi was imitation crab meat and canned tuna; yes canned tuna. Just all rolled in a hastily fashion and thrown out. Cold dried out food. When I told the manager the mandarin oranges were rancid he began to yell and call my son a liar. He said we were just trying to not pay. He called the police. We left the full plates of food on the table because it was inedible. Waited for the police to come and basically we were told that the owners considered it stealing if we put the food on our plate. It was an embarrassing experience and completely unnecessary for the police to be called. So I ended up paying $14 for food that could not be eaten. DON'T EAT HERE!! I've eaten here a few times and while it's not terrible I don't find that they do anything particularly well. The sushi is decent, the Chinese food is below average and so is most of the American food. The service is usually good, the food hot or cold as expected but nothing "wow's" me...at all. Too many times to count I've order vegetable lo mein and there are barely any vegetables, only noodles. And way too often it tastes like it's been warned up for two days and is NOT fresh. So My family and I just ate here after a shopping trip to Cabelas. Dinner for four for $50 and I still feel like I was robbed. Walking in, the place looked pretty nice and clean, and the hostess sat us quickly and directed us to the buffet. So, to save you all a lengthy read, the food here is terrible. Generally I like buffets because you can try one of this and one of that, and after sampling most items available on the hot bar, I can say with confidence that this is the worst meal I have ever consumed. So, the chilled shrimp were unevenly cooked. I know, that makes me sound like a picky jerk, but literally of the 8 shrimp I had, 3 were still raw in the middle and 5 were cooked until they were mush. The seafood stuffed mushrooms were appalling, they must have put clam or something in them that was full of grit, and of the three types of chicken I tried, they were all over cooked and tough. Even the soda was completely flat. Avoid this place like the plague, you have been warned! read more

After having arrived at 3:10 for a Dinner buffet, our party of 4 was told the earlier arrivals could not eat anymore buffet. As it was now dinner, they had to eat and leave. And was told in a rude ,demanding and aggressive tone by the Owners wife. She kept berating a relative to the point of we all got up and departed. My wife and I did not eat our food because of insult but had two cokes so I paid $5 which I deemed as fair. She followed us to the parking lot and took pictures of the cars plate and called Tilden Township police! All of this because she could not understand ENGLISH to the point of conducting a curtious customer service. I eventually paid $27 dollars just to defuse this situation. I shall be contacting the BBB and the local magistrate. There are better buffets in Selinsgrove and Bloomsburg that are curtious and friendly and offer great food at a better price. Either conduct affairs using understandable English or sell with pictures and combo numbers! At work today, my partner at work and I decided to take our consumers to Ja buffet in Hamburg Pa for lunch. We take care of people with intellectual developments and disabilities for our job. Although the food was good the service was terrible. First off we were told to leave because they were beginning dinner and we were in there for lunch, they never offered us refills on drinks and they made us go up and pay before we were even done eating! We were in there only for a hour and it was 5 of us total. We went up to pay and explained we needed separate receipts because of our job and they gave us a issue with that! Then while my partner and I began explaining why we needed the receipts separated they began talking in Japanese to one another and then got extremely rude to us! It felt very degrading and disrespectful. I can honestly say if wasn't at work embarrassed enough after how ignorant the cashiers were by them making a scene when this all happened and trying to be nice in front of the consumers I care for I would have asked to speak to who ever was in charge and tell them exactly what I thought! read more

Worst Chinese restaurant I was ever in. Everything was simply horrible EVEN THE WATER. I'm not a big soda fan, so I ordered water and it had the exact smell and taste as if someone ladled water out of a fish tank. I wouldn't doubt they lay their seafood on the ice to preserve it and use that same ice when they serve water. I don't even want to go into the food because everything was bad. Decent food. They can Cook fresh food aswell which comes with the baffet. The waitress "lady who refills your soda" will beg for your change when u pay the bill so try to have exact change or she was nag u till u give in. I'm not sure why this place would ever get any negative reviews. I have been going here for years. Never been to their old location in shoemakersville. They have a large selection of food for the entire family so yes it is hard to maintain constant freshness but instead of complaining about the food i ask them for a fresh tray or a fresh serving. They are always more than happy to bring it out. Tables are always clean and is a very relaxing environment. I recommend this place to anyone! It's a family favorite! read more

I eat there about once a month, and have yet to get a bad meal. Variety of food is big on my criteria of where to eat, and its acceptable. There are a couple bigger buffets with better variety within a half hour drive, but I can find enough dishes to fill and overfill myself. Service can be a little slow when its crowded, but normally pretty good. Good price for All You Can Eat, particularly Mon-Sat. Hot and Sour Soup is unusual, sorta like a spicy celery soup, but very good. Kim Chee recommended. read more

Friday- 5:00 pm What's the old saying,"Three Strikes and Your Out". We went to their place when it was at the light in Shoey and it was at least a little better than it is now. We used to go to the Breakfast Buffet on a Sunday and it was very good, but, they stopped that. We have been to this Buffet, for Chinese food three times since they opened here and it was a terrible experience all three times. We tried three different times thinking maybe it was the time of the day that made a difference. The food was cold. Many dishes were hard and dried out. No flavor. The chicken dishes that were fried had little or no chicken in them, a lot of batter and hard batter. The dishes that had vegetables like broccoli in them, had mush for vegetables. This time we were there @ 5pm and most of the things seemed like they were sitting there all day. Think they make too much at a time and put it out, and the heat would not dry it out because there wasn't hardly any heat. Next time we'll go to Burger King. read more

Looks nice enough from the outside. Well, we walk in and a little boy about 10 years old with an order pad asks us how many. We are escorted to a table and he asks us what we would like to drink. Then an adult finally comes over and says okay you can get your plates whenever you like and leaves. Hold on -- how much is it? Is it just a buffet? Do you serve anything else? Well, we were there and hungry so we walked over to the buffet. I did not recognize any of the usual colorful Asian dishes you'd expect to see. There was only one vegetable option in the entire place -- green beans. Seriously? Maybe a mixed vegetable entree would be nice for vegetarians. I was surprised at what I did see -- a lot of american fried food (good for kids I guess), ham, oysters on the half shell, crawfish. Most of the stuff that was out was just greasy Asian options that lacked what you'd normally expect -- where are the bamboo shoots, the water chestnuts, broccoli, or any sense of a vegetable? Later we realized that in the back corner they had a sushi station and a line where you could order something made fresh. Gee, it would have been nice if this was explained to us in the beginning. The spare ribs were good, but the overall experience was a big disappointment. Um, and then we get the bill, $15 per person. Wow. This place may look good from outside and main entrance,but this is only a trick do get you in and trap you into paying outrageous prices they choose not to inform patrons of! I simply was not asking for a free meal only an exchange or take of bill since it was not eaten. she acted so crazy and demanding other customers were looking and commenting on how could an owner act this way! following the "head" chef came to table whom was trying to talk and behave as an owner to any customer should but same way trying justify the difference in"sushi" from place to place (all b.s.) which was obviously making the owner irate in the thought of taking charges of the bill. the best part as we were waiting in between ppl coming to table our order of wasabi rolls arrived with that cat food atop of it. needless to say this establishment should be shut down for food poisoning and tricking customers into outrages bills they are not aware of till bill arrives. in the end she only removed 1 spicy crab roll order because 1 piece was eaten from one order and as I showed the chef the taste (a less then pinky amount) on top of wasabi roll the horrible look n unpalatable product it was considered touched. when the owner came to show me the bill she actually tried to argue again with me that I asked her to please remove urself from our table and we would never be returning.57$ for expired bottom end cat food is what I paid for! I really wished I read others reviews before taking family there from out of state! I then had to spend more $ at McDonalds to feed my guests. side note ppl I ate a piece of spicy crab roll, a piece of tempura shrimp roll,and few sips of sewer water I ordered to drink and nearly made it home 15 mins later before needing to stop for a shower and new bottom apparel! nice way to spend last 1hour with family out of state thru a bathroom door! the buffet that is 14$ a person is a dried up, non edible, non worth pile of 4 stations! please do not get caught in their trap of "Chinese food" they are Korean for one and only know how to take drink orders and your money!!! read more
