The Critical J.

PROS: this place was very nice. It has a banquet room, loads of food and seating, place is clean, and the waitress was nice. Prices are unbeatable and loads of parking CONS: the hostess was a bit snobby and you have to prepay before eating OVERALL: for a buffet, this place was very nice. I would definitely come back

Well prepared and delicious: chicken and broccoli with a side of white rice.

Lunch was good enough and reasonably priced. Had much worse and much better. Clean and friendly service.

I noticed they had rack of lamb as an appetizer, so I wanted to try it since it is a unique selection; it was fantastic; tender, and it came with a small serving of mashed potatoes, which were also very tasty. Service was excellent as always too!

Moist inside with a crisp outer shell. Then the crispy calamari. A peppery batter and the inside was tender, not chewy. The portions for this were perfect, not too much, but a fair appetizer size. I finished off with the shrimp teriyaki. This was served on a bed of shredded vegetables and a side of rice. It had everything to be a good dish, but the sauce was lacking and tasted like a watered down teriyaki with pepper. I just wasn't here for it, but if you like an extremely mild teriyaki then it might be for you! Service: The waitress was attentive and even stopped by to refill my water. I really enjoy when they stop a few times so if you are needing extra sauce or condiments you can request them. Overall an ok experience. Ambiance: The atmosphere was different than I had expected. Dark walls with blue lights all over. The lighting was too dark for my personal taste and I'd prefer a classic white or candlelight style lighting when eating. Value: My meal was a great value for how much food I received and the variety of food. In total, my meal was $16 for 3 appetizer sized dishes, rice, and a bowl of soup. Recommend: If you are looking for a cool atmosphere with a fairly priced lunch menu, I would say this is the spot for you. If you were looking for bold flavors and a more authentic experience, I would opt to pass.

Sumo Sushi and Japanese Restaurant is a casual spot that specializes in both traditional Japanese…read morecuisine and fusion-style sushi. Located in Village West on Tilghman Street, it's open Monday through Thursday from 11:00 AM to 10:00 PM, Friday from 11:00 AM to 11:00 PM, Saturday from 12:00 PM to 11:00 PM, and Sunday from 12:00 PM to 10:00 PM. I was looking for a place to grab dinner before going to the movies, and since I hadn't had sushi in a while, I decided to give Sumo a try. Kicked things off with the crispy calamari, which was perfectly fried. It's a familiar favorite, served with a sweet chili sauce that complements it nicely. Next up were the Kani salad and seafood miso soup. While the soup was loaded with seafood, both dishes were fairly average and a bit bland. For the main event, sushi! I tried the Sumo Roll, with spicy crunchy salmon and avocado inside, topped with seared salmon, white tuna, crispy rice ball, and tobiko with the chef's special sauce. I also had the Cracked Lobster Roll, filled with spicy shrimp and lobster, sweet potato tempura, and topped with Kani salad and a Japanese cracker with garlic mango sauce. Both were fresh, delicious, and beautifully presented. Overall, everything was enjoyable. I'd rank Sumo somewhere in the middle among the sushi spots I've tried.

Fast service, although the staff wasn't overly friendly--just kind of neutral. That said, the food…read morewas excellent! Sushi was super fresh with a great variety to choose from. We sat outside, which was nice even in the strip mall setting. Love that it's BYOB. We will definitely return!

We sensed that it used to be a bistro bar that turned to a spot with option for real food. There was a line when we walked . We were on right timing to get seats . The food served to us did not disappoint. We enjoyed each one's choices. Sashimi, bento box, sushi, hibachi meats, noodles and rice were tasty. There are work of arts spread throughout the restaurant that were eye catching. Local artists inspirational works has high pricing tag. It's a plus for visiting and dining in here.

I ordered shrimp and scallop hibachi and it was incredibly oily and greasy, and the portion of shrimp and scallops was tiny. My friend also got hibachi and felt the same way. My salad was watery, and the clear mushroom soup tasted very strange. I couldn't take more than a bite of either the soup or the salad. For my entree, asked the server if I could please have extra vegetables instead of noodles, and she said that there was a "language barrier" in the kitchen, so she didn't want to ask that. I thought that was an odd comment for her to make. My daughter ordered some sushi rolls and liked them, and my husband and our friend also liked their sushi; so maybe sushi is a better choice here. The place is small and to echo other reviewers, tables are very crammed together and you will bump in to other people just by moving around. The place is cool looking on the inside and outside, definitely an interesting vibe, and they have a full bar. We did have to ask multiple times about the status of our beverages (both alcoholic and non-alcoholic). My drink was not good, it was a sake/lemon drop hybrid type of thing and it was insanely sweet - I couldn't finish it.

Whenever a new hibachi restaurant opens up in town, it creates quite a stir. For years we only had…read moreour choice of Tokyo Hibachi & Bar or Mikura to get the full hibachi experience (shrimp flyin', saké chuggin', onion ring volcano shootin' fire into the air, which can be felt on the faces of people sitting across the room). But when Masa arrived, it changed the whole town's dynamic. MIkura was basically banished into the nether realm. Their hibachi tables are way too cramped. If your two favorite things are the wise-cracking, egg-balancing-on-the-spatula, cheery on the outside but everyone knows is depressed on the inside hibachi chef and claustrophobia, then this place is for you. Tokyo has been the king for the longest time, but Masa is a true powerhouse in its own right. It's fairly obvious the scales are tipping in Masa's favor these days, for if you were to ask an acquaintance about where they'd like to go for your pre-arranged sushi lunch that you had planned for weeks and miraculously neither of you bailed, nearly every time that person would say Masa. Speaking of lunch, the specials here are what keep me coming back. Three rolls for $13, hibachi combos (i.e. chicken, veggies, fried rice, soup) also for $13, and their Lunch Wok & Grill Platters (protein, Cali roll, dumpling, rice, and soup) for $12. Bonkers. There are still good deals out there, just gotta know where to look. The hibachi experience is top notch. Here you get a proper amount of space, heck, you might even go as far to say an abundance. And that's how it should be. Lots of room, not cramped up next to the other tables, where you get splattered from their oil and feel the burn from their onion volcanos. Must say, I quite dig this place. For the life of me I can't think of a single thing I dislike. Bravo, Masa, you are now the king of hibachi in Reading, PA.
