I lived and worked in Cortland since 1969. I have also owned B&R ElectroTherm and my old glass engraving shop, both of which were @ 70 Homer Ave. I used to deal with Kenny, and got along with him pretty good for the most part. After a number of years, he slowly started to forget small things that never amounted to much to me. As time went on into the late 90's and early 2000's, I started to notice a little aggression in his voice and his demeanor. As time progressed, I started getting more work outside of the Cortland area, and started buying form Ithaca Wholesale, HomeDepot, HEP, 84 Lumber, and Wicks Lumber. Every so often I would stop by JTS and pick up a couple smaller items, and Kenny would speak to me as a sort of enemy. I could only surmise, that he was not happy to see me and Fred Gibson in his establishment. Fred knew Kenny a lot longer than I had, so I guess that helped keep things civil.
Until now, I have had no real reason to think anything was amiss @ JTS Lumber, and as I look back over the last 8-10 years, I could see a parallel with my mother's Alzheimer's disease and the way Ken was acting. She would raise her voice at me while feeding my beagle scrap foods saying, " He's my dog and I'll feed him what ever I want !!". Whereupon even my sister would have to intervene on my behalf, and tell her what was really true.
If indeed Kenny is suffering those same symptoms, I pray that he will be at rest soon as God takes him home. That is an affliction that is heartbreaking at the very least. On the last day I saw my mother alive, she had no idea who I was nor the family members with me. She remembered nothing at all. I remember feeling so alone, because the woman that bore me was gone a long time before that last visit. I also pray that Ken's family has not suffered those same circumstances. I also pray I am wrong about this whole affair. read more
