The food was decent. Nothing to rave about. The short ribs consisted of three chunks of roast beef on a bed of potatoes and vegetables it was 38. The rib eye was thin and was 68. The atmosphere was trying hard but the music killed it for me. Loud and not fitting with a high end steak house and the photos on open table don't match the food that is served. Open table also says it's 30. And under. I don't mind paying 68. For a high end meal but the food and presentation and atmosphere didn't match up for me. It was decent food. But the atmosphere and presentation, still needs work. The people who work there are very friendly and accommodating. read more

Came in late last Saturday night, and at first thought they were closed. But tried the door- Surprise! Open and packed. Reservations highly recommended. But as I was alone, found a spot at the far end of the bar and settled in. I was not disappointed. I started with a key lime Caparinia. I like caparinias, and this was a good one. Little sweet, but definitely a good start. The mood in the bar was dark, but the jukebox music was popping, and I liked the decor. The art was killer. Love the tattooed Nun. Ordered the Stuft dates, and prime fillet, rare. Filet comes with a grilled fresh mixed veg over mash potatoes. While waiting I became introduced to Heather the bartender & a couple of locals. They definitely have a full bar with multiple whistle-pig whiskeys. The dates & steak were on spot. Pricey, but worth it. For afters I went with a Ruby Grapefruit Mule. Can't complain, but not a fav. Should have ended with a Manhattan. Food was good, service was very good, drinks were awesome, just make a reservation - or make do at the bar, like I did. Oh, and bring your wallet. Overall our experience was good. It wasn't an average dining experience, but we also don't feel it was an incredible 5 star experience worth almost $200. The ambience is dark, date night vibes which we liked. You're seated with an open kitchen in the entrance area. We had a really good mushroom pesto bruschetta, and for our entrees, the pork belly and short rib ravioli. When we arrived we overheard a bartender sharing with another customer that the fettuccine was a small order, so I didn't get either; however, the $30 ravioli came with 3 very al dente ravioli. My husband had 3 large pork belly pieces with potatoes. Personally, I didn't like the ravioli and felt the balsamic was too acidic for the dish. The pork belly was great, but wasn't incredible. My husband and I were celebrating 2 years of marriage and left a note about that on our reservation. We received a complimentary raspberry brownie? I didn't see a dessert menu, but I think the brownie may have been overdone or there was a flavor I didn't recognize. It desperately needed a good scoop of vanilla ice cream. Always a pleasure coming here to dine. Whether it's solo at the bar or getting a table in the open kitchen. One of the best places for oysters in Yuma. Best find ever! We were looking for a nice steakhouse that wasn't a chain restaurant, looked on yelp and read reviews for J.T. Prime. We arrived about 4pm, the front of the restaurant was quaint, located in a small strip mall (loved the velvet rope at the entrance). Be prepared to walk into darkened bar area with intimate lighting. While our eyes were adjusting we heard a voice from the corner of the bar greeting us, we asked if we needed reservations for dinner and the gentleman said no and walked us back through an open kitchen to an intimate dinning area. The chef and assistants were all very welcoming. The decor is black with low romantic lighting and great retro pictures. Our server Jose was very friendly and informative about the menu. Service is exceptional, ambience is very romantic. We ordered the bacon wrapped dates, yumm and a great Pinot noir which came within 10-15 mins (amazing). My husband ordered the prime rib and I ordered the short ribs, I wish I would've remembered to take pictures because everything was plated so nicely. We both ate all of our dinner and had the chocolate lava cake with raspberry and cream topping another yumm. Not a place to which I would return. The bar area where I was seated was too dark. The bacon-wrapped dates were terrific. My steak was over salted. My first drink seemed to be a very weak pour while my second was overly strong. The location in a small strip center type building is depressing. As a foodie who moved to Yuma from NY a few days ago I was pleasantly surprised by JT Prime. It has a very unassuming exterior which is juxtaposed by a very intimate setting indoors - you are literally sitting in the kitchen smelling and watching your food be lovingly prepared. I started with their champagne sangria - with tropical notes - really very refreshing. The Wagyu meatballs were absolutely amazing - the flavors were delicious and you get hints of truffle oil with each bite. For my main I had their house- made short rib ravioli - the ravioli were perfectly cooked and had amazing flavor - if you're not a fan of Gorgonzola it may not be a flavor you enjoy. It was topped with spiralizdd carrots which added a nice sweetness and respite from the sharpness of the Gorgonzola - I only wish they had a bit of crunch for a change in texture. For dessert I had the crème brûlée - to die for ! It was the recommendation of my server and I was defintjely not disappointed. This was only our second visit to J.T.Prime however, it will not be our last. The staff is very attentive without being cloying. We greeted with genuine enthusiasm and happy faces. I can't express how welcomed we felt Then, the food! Wow! We had the Carpaccio and the Del Mar Duo to start. Absolute perfection. My husband had the Cabernet Braised Short Ribs and I had a beautifully cooked steak. And since my husband mentioned it was my birthday when he made the reservation, they brought me a Molten Chocolate Cake. And it was done very discreetly. Perfect. When you are seated it is hard to remember you are in a strip mall. The dark curtains block all the sunlight and the lighting is perfectly romantic without being too dark. The artwork is simple in the dining area but, definitely not boring. I can not recommend this place strongly enough. It is a perfect date destination. Take your favorite person as soon as you can! Called in a to go order. Was driving thru to Phoenix. I would have had a better meal at Texas Roadhouse. I ordered a $68 ribeye, medium with mash potatoes, and burnt vegetables. I got a rare, barely cooked steak with no flatware, napkins , nothing but 2 plastic containers with a very rare cooked steak. Mash potatoes is a no brainer and my veg was blackened so much the food had a burnt taste to it. We were on a trip and didn't have time to sit down for dinner. I wouldn't waste my money again for such a poorly cooked meal with nothing but the plastic container. read more

We absolutely love eating at JT Prime. We went in off the cuff for a non event dinner. My wife loves the stuffed and bacon wrapped dates. The WAGYU meatballs is to die for and is my favorite. I would never complain about anything from JT Prime since every previous meal was over the top. We ordered the braised short ribs. I was disappointed that there was virtually no flavor and they were dry as if they had been sitting in the fridge for a while. Certainly not anything I would expect from JT Prime. I actually did not like this meal. I'm not complaining for compensation. I'm stating an opinion on a meal that hopefully doesn't drive a good customer away. I love these people and their food. Just don't give people a reason to look elsewhere. read more

OMG. I haven't had food this good in at least 3 years. At first it was so dark I couldn't see where I was going but once my yes adjusts from the 115 degree weather outside and was seated everything changed. Ordered a bottle of house wine and it was upgraded to an excellent bottle of cab. We ordered to Caesar salad that was easily shar d plus Half came home with us and the short rib ravioli and lamb chops. Everything just melted in our mouths. It was soooooo good. We ordered the wagyu meatball appetizer - the sauce was a bit too salty, and the meatballs were kind of dry, weird texture. I ordered the Shrimp Costa Azul, which was okay. The bacon kind of overpowered everything else in my opinion. The veggies were good. My husband got the pork belly and he really did not like it. I tried and had to agree, the textures and flavors were just off somehow. What a gem in a very inconspicuous location, wedged into the corner of a small strip mall. The signage is too small in my opinion, you know there's a dominos and insurance, but If you didn't know the address, you'll drive right by. With that said, seek this place out. The food is incredibly delicious, the service is first class, and ambience inside is definitely befitting the price point. In regards to price, there is one other high-end fine dining establishment in town that has similar food and a much better wine selection, but the price point there is probably 7-12% higher. In my opinion, TJs is a better value for the quality, but the other place is probably a more classical elegance establishment. Not to say this place isn't nice, it's just that it's in a strip mall, parking is limited, and that may detract from the overall experience if this is a special occasion. However, if you want an amazing meal, you should definitely come here. The food is AMAZING and full of all the flavors you should expect from a fine dining establishment. The staff is definitely fully trained to serve their customers, the cocktails and luxury liquor selection is epic. read more

Wow, just wow! What a pleasant surprise..it's dark and mysterious but once your eyes adjust loved it. Heather at the bar makes Hella drinks so be prepared for a strong pour, I loved my dirty Martini and the glass of champagne for our Anniversary was a wonderful touch too. The dining area is open and the chef is just steps away. The food was truly some of the best I have had in many places. The filet was cooked perfectly and so delicious, we shared after appetizers and I ordered a side of Scallops they were the best I believe I have ever had. I would go to Yuma just to eat here! Had not heard that Chef Alex had a new restaurant but my friends had been there and loved it. We had a fabulous meal amazing service and great ambiance. From the collander light fixtures to the artwork this was a wonderfuld experience and we will definitely return. We wanted to try something new and picked out JT Prime. The reviews I read said it had great food but a strange physical setup. It is located in a strip mall that faces 32nd, and has very little parking. We found a space and entered through the front door. Immediately inside there was a floor to ceiling black drape that effectively kept out the outside light and the A/C in. But it was very dark, we used our cell phones flashlight to see where we were walking. An employee also had a real flashlight and aimed it at the floor, where we were to go, to assist us. When leaving we spoke to the lady bartender who said it takes about 20 seconds to adjust to the darkness. We were led to a dining room adjacent to the kitchen. Within a few minutes we could see our surroundings and had sufficient light to eat our dinner without using our phones. We did need them to order and read the menu. We chose an appetizer, bruschetta. It was three kinds of mushrooms on bread and had been well liked by others. We could see why. It was excellent, light and flavorful. Our main course was steak, I chose the filet and my wife chose the ribeye. We both asked for it medium. We chose the wine, Alexander Valley Merlot , because we had been to this winery. It's a very nice wine, goes well with beef. The glasses were large which made the amount poured look small. It was enough to sip all through dinner. My wife's ribeye was excellent and more than she could eat at one sitting. She managed about a third of it and they boxed the rest in a reusable plastic container. The sides were identical, mashed potatoes with assorted vegetables. Both were superb. The seasoning complimented the meat and the carrots had been spiral cut and were crisp. The other vegetables were firm, not overcooked or soggy. I had the filet which came as ordered and was flavorful and tender. A very good cut and I ate it all. A great meal. We had dessert, the lava cake with raspberry sauce and whipped cream. A great finish to our meal. I also had coffee, which the waiter asked if "Americano" would be ok. It was. My wife finished her ribeye at home after reheating it in our air fryer. It was still great. The bill? Before the tip, was $217. Service was very good and so was the tip. We thought it was worth it, but we wouldn't, couldn't do that very often. Is that price worth it to you? We have eaten at Julieanna's, Market Grill and Texas Roadhouse. This was the best meal, but a strange place and quite expensive. I would rate Market Grill next best, and it is our favorite for fine dining and less expensive and more traditional choices. The JT menu includes steaks from Japan, which are over $100. So our meal was a bargain compared to those. But we also like the food at Texas Roadhouse, and the cost is about half what we spent at JT Prime. So it really depends on what you want. read more

Driving home from Phoenix to San Diego I decided to stop here. Great reviews. It's difficult to find as it's located at the end of a strip mall next to a Taco Bell. Walking into a very dark bar area my first thought was is this a speak easy or a restaurant? The woman asked if I had a reservation which I didn't and I was brought down a dark hallway to another dark room. The energy was palpable. The food is cooked in the same room. There was a sous chef whose job it was to heat plates and garnish every dish with a micro spring mix and some fried onions. I ordered an eight dollar bottled water and a forty eight dollar piece of sea bass on pasta. The combination did not go well. The food was way over salted and the pasta sauce didn't go with the fish. A big miss for me. I don't mind paying fifty dollars for a piece of fish but I better fall off my chair. Just an fyi, bring a flashlight because you can't see Shit in this place. read more

We were skeptical when we drove into the parking lot, the location is somewhat sketchy. When you walk in, it is very dark and when your eyes adjust you are in a tiny bar area. You are greeted and then taken down a hallway into an open kitchen and tables. We got our menus and it was so dark you couldn't read them. We took a photo and enhanced the photo to read the menu. Frustrating. We started with a Caesar salad to share and disappointed with no edible flowers on it. I had been looking on the web at the pictures of menu items. So I was really expecting the food to look like the photos online. Entrees were Chilean Sea Bass, Shrimp Acosta Azul and Tiger Prawn Fettuccine. As you look at the photos you will see the entrees were lacking in presentation. The Sea Bass -$48. had so much red pepper vinaigrette on it hiding the fish or lack of fish. The fish should be on top, the garnish shouldn't be the focus. On the Tiger Shrimp Fettuccine-$36, the photo shows you the size of the prawns. The taste was off. Next the Shrimp Acosta Azul-$39. The food looked like a mess. Vegetables wrapped in bacon char grilled vegetables? No. Well there were little bits and pieces of vegetables here and there but it wasn't what the menus said. We didn't like that the food was overpowered with the red pepper vinaigrette. Last we got the molten cake to share. When you check in on Yelp you get a free dessert with an entree. You mention it with the host when you arrive. But it looks like we were charged anyway. On the ambiance, it was very dark and noisy. At a table next to us they had the "Sizzling Hot Rock" where they were cooking meat and the smell and smoke was overpowering with burning meat. Needless to say they need better ventilation. We will not be back. No we will not try again when we are in town. Just No. read more
