Kick ass pizza alert!!! JP's is a familiar haunt and I've always liked their bar pizza, but they just reached next level. Different from the previous thin dough/crust, it's thicker but "lighter". I immediately realized it's just like Cambridge's Best, Pinocchio's Pizza in Harvard Square. Same light dough! With a smidgen less cheese, I'd give this a 10 across the board. Okay, I ordered my dinner from j.P.Ryan's in Abington and the guy that I ordered from was rude as f*** and gave me an attitude when I said, do you want a name? He goes no, no 25 minutes!! I couldn't believe how rude he was so f****** rude.When I placed my order, he didn't even acknowledge that I was done.I said, did you get that?"Yeah twenty five minutes" !!! Who the fuck spit in your drink asshole. I used to hang out at j.PRyan's and I know the owner well. This is our new favorite for a meal out. From the bar ringed with seating to the menu with our favorites to the amazing bartenders/wait staff/busses (all one person on Saturday afternoons when we go) it is a phenomenal experience. And the food is good on top of all that! My spouse has the steak tip bomb (the only kind of bomb there should be) and I get the burger. We have never been disappointed. The portions are hefty, the food favorable, and the accompanying sides are superb. We haven't been for live entertainment or on a game night so I can't speak to that. But if you are looking for a new favorite place to eat, this is for you. read more

Local townie bar where the staff is rude unless you're a regular drunk and it doesn't matter if you're with the regular drunks-if you're not one of them, you're not worth the time to take money from and I don't want to give it to anyone who serves me a vodka cranberry in a pint glass with juice from a gun that tasted worse than cough syrup. Ate here tonight with a few friends. I am glad we tried this place because it's really close to where I live. I found the inside to be clean and the service was good. There are a ton of TV's so, it's a good place to catch a game. The food was really good. I got the steak tips which came with a salad and fries for $10. You can't beat that price. They were cooked perfectly and tasted delicious. Another person in my group got a burger and someone else got pizza and they both really liked what they got. I came here on a Wednesday night to catch the Bruins game and there were maybe twenty people all sitting around the bar. Good vibes from all--most seemed to be regulars so there was a positive sort of comfortable feeling in the room. Lots of TV sets around to keep your eye on the game. Perfect in this regard. The bartender was friendly and attentive. The beer selection was standard. My biggest beef with this place is the cost and quality of the food. My boyfriend and I ordered the steak and cheese egg rolls after having had them recently at The Fours in Quincy (they were freaking delicious at The Fours!). JP Ryan's steak and cheese egg rolls were AWFUL. So bad. Have you ever bought Taquitos as a poor college kid or struggling artist who finally decided to denounce veganism because cheese and beef really are a perfect combo? That's what these were. We paid $9.95 for four tiny taquitos. Save yourself the money and buy a big box of forty for half the price at BJ's. We ordered the Rocky Marciano pizza which was basically a reheated frozen pizza that was reminiscent of those tiny .99 cent Celeste pizzas. Such a disappointing food experience. People say not to take much stock in bar food, but hell, I have had some kick ass bar food and I have had mediocre bar food and I have been to places that taught me the lesson to never order food from there again. This place takes the prize for the lowest quality bar food I've experienced. But the beer is cheap and the game is on and the bartender fills my cup so I'll be back after I have dinner. read more

She came back numerous times and asked if everything was OK. I wish they'd put the waitresses names on the ticket!?!?! I like this place, but the food? Not so much. The potato skins and nachos are good, but I was recently disappointed when I ordered a cheeseburger. The bun tasted like it had been frozen for months. As I do recall, the bread was freezer burned and still thawing when placed on my burger. The atmosphere is nice and the juke box kicks ass, as long as there's no live bands coming up ( I personally like the juke box over live), jus sayin. Anyways this place was a nice spot that I attended for a birthday party which had pleasant live music and a very polite staff. I choose here because I was getting an oil change across the street . I was at this place for over an hour and was treated like nothing , ignored as I tried to place keno bets on purpose by the bartender Brian! I had one drink and ordered pizzas. I asked for another drink at the end of the hour or so . As his right he said no, I said ok can I diet soda. he said no and I don't know what's wrong with you but I don't like it and want you to leave. I informed him what's wrong with me is Mental Illness!! Discriminated for having mental illness!! I'm a bi polar manic woman. I talk to myself out loud when a manic episode is severe. I'm giving 5 stars bc I was there last night and some poor man went into diabetic shock and the bartender went above and beyond to help him. I have literally never seen someone who worked in a bar or restaurant do anything like this. Turns out the man was a regular. They really care about their patrons. This alone says so much about this establishment. I didn't get the name of the gentleman bartender but he really is an angel on earth. I'll never forget what he did. After going back here a lot more since my first review, I can't think of any reason why JP Ryan's isn't a 5 star small town bar. They have cover free entertainment seven nights a week. They have an open mic night about once a month or so. Most important, they will make any kind of pizza you ask for, even a bacon and pickle pizza. The service is always friendly, and quick. If you're in the Abington area it's the best bar around to stop into and have a pint. read more

A Cheers like setting. Small in terms of socializing areas as compared to other local bars. Mostly because the square bar takes up the space. Plenty of HDTVs for sports. Music juke box has average sound quality. A few games to fill the corners of the bar. Bathrooms are smaller than expected and not kept up well. The menu is pretty standard but the food service is pretty quick. Quality tasting food, never a bad plate. They push the pizza but I think the sandwiches are a better draw. Service from the bar is very friendly, the key aspect of this successful neighborhood bar. At times they can be overwhelmed with patrons waiting for their alcohol order. I think that has more to do with the shape of the bar. Waitstaff is generally cute. Live music sounds good but again, because the bar is small, it can sit on top of you and some bands sound a little too loud. Overall, the quality of acts that play at JP Ryans is eccletically great. The patronage tends to age range from 30s-50s, although 20 somethings do find there way. regularly. I went to JP Ryan's when it opened along with the family. Order drinks then food as we started to eat one of the owners came over and inquired on place ..service & food. Today...2016 ....not so much. I never felt so uncomfortable entering an establishment for drinks. Wait time was so horrible it seemed on purpose. Forget ordering anything to eat...it was tough and tasted awful. It is a decent sized bar but has an intimate high energy atmosphere and excellent service. I like to try different bars and this is one I will keep on my list of good local places. My favorite local hangout.. great live music every weekend. TVs everywhere for sporting events.. keno and lottery and jukebox. The food is awesome, better than your average bar food. Went there tonight as it's close to where I live. I ordered the house specialty tips with french fries and chicken & rice soup and my girlfriend got an order of buffalo wingdings and Caesar salad. Soup was ok, nothing great. My tips were tough and over cooked. Fries were OK. My girlfriend's salad was probably the best item of the meal as the wingdings were just lumps of breading on a bone soaked in buffalo sauce. As others have reported the music there is painfully loud, first the jukebox and then the Irish music. It was almost impossible to talk. Service was good once they realized we were there, so definitely no complaint. Menu is extremely limited. Maybe one more return for pizza as this place is so close I really wanted to like it. I use to go to Hillside Pub on the Canton-Milton line all the time when I worked over there and there is still no small pub I've been to in the area that has their level of service and great food. I will never be back at this establishment. It just smells bad. I can honestly say the inside felt and smelled like a porta potty. I did not enjoy the feeling I had when I was inside. I tried this place out recently on a Saturday afternoon, ordered a Guinness and a buffalo chicken sandwich with fries. The Guinness was pretty good but served is a small size Guinness glass, not a full pint. I think bars do this to charge for a full pint with the smaller glass. The buffalo chicken sandwich was completely awful. The chicken was rubbery and just had a strange texture to it, I wouldn't have eaten it if I wasn't so hungry. The fries were run of the mill frozen fries that you can get at any supermarket. There seemed to be a lot of regulars there that give you the once over when you walk in. The service was just ok, sat with empty glasses for a while without the bartender noticing. Not too attentive. I would say this just a run of the mill "Irish Bar" that has nothing Irish about it.
