    Fish molee curry ($20.09)

Been for a few meals at J.J Dosai. They're a South Indian restaurant (Thanjavur) with some Sri Lankan dishes (kothu roti and idiyappam). Service was friendly. They offer a 10% discount when you follow them on Instagram. There's a different daily special ($7.99-$9.99). Medium spice level had no kick. - Pappadam - complimentary. Tasty - Naan ($2.25) - reminded me of the naan you buy at grocery stores - Prawn maharajah ($14.95 for 6) - slightly thicker batter. Needed a dipping sauce - Goat keema dosai ($16.49) - minced goat masala, sambar and two chutneys (coconut and a mild tomato based). Good portion, excellent coconut chutney. Stick with the dosas - Lamb biryani ($17.29) - a couple of good sized lamb chunks but overcooked. Skip it - Chicken kurma ($19.49) - came with rice, roti and pappadam. Curry was bland - Fish molee curry ($20.09) - basa fish was tender. Okay but lacked bold flavours

Dosa is my go to food in restaurants as it's comforting filling healthy and very delicious. I tried Jj dosai on Fraser street seeing its ratings. I ordered masala dosa, onion rava masala dosa and eggplant dosa - all three of them were amazing. I never expected that eggplant dosa could also be delicious. I ordered it on spicy side - keep it medium as spicy can be too hot. But it was very yummy and tasty. The combination of eggplant sabzi inside a dosa batter is superb. The sambhar and the chutneys were delectable as well. The place has nice calm ambience with pictures of Indian monuments and cultures. It's clean and the music in background is soothing too. Staff is nice and service is okay. Staff is friendly but could be a little waiting time as everything is prepared fresh and at the moment. Would really recommend this place if you are up for south Asian dosa mood and try some starters too. Overall good experience.

I admit upfront that I know little about Indian cuisine. Who'm I kidding; I know less than nothing about it - and even less than THAT about Sri Lankin food. But my kid and I are binge watching last season's MasterChef Australia, and the contestants cook A LOT of these cuisines' dishes, and we really wanted to try out some of these dishes. Searching Yelp, we found this restaurant that offered these foods, and the reviews were stellar. The reviews were spot on. This place is amazing! The place is totally unassuming from the outside (to say the least), and perhaps less so on the inside. My kid and I had made a reservation prior to visiting but we needn't have; there was only one other couple here, and they left soon after we arrived, as they had finished their meal. The interior had very casual diner-esque tables and chairs, with paper posters and flyers taped to the walls. Despite the lack of decor, the place was super clean and, hey, we like diners, so we didn't mind the bare bones aesthetic. Our waiter was incredibly nice, and we asked his advice on what to order, as the menu us unbelievably large, with so so many dishes to choose from. We ordered three dishes: the butter chicken dosai, the lamb kothu roti, and the chicken kurma. The butter chicken dose is the house specialty and our waiter strongly recommended it. Wow, it was beyond delicious. My kid loved the chicken kurma but I found it way too spicy (and we had asked for the mildest spiciness level, too. I am a total woos). The pappadoms that came with this dish were crazy good, like the best cracker-breads I've ever had (they tasted as if they were puffed up or popped, but they were flat. Just delicious, with the best, lightest texture). The kothu roti was also delicious. All portions were huge and we brought so much home (we love leftovers! And we have enough for at least 2 more meals for each of us). We have already decided what we are going to try when we next visit (the prawn curry). Great place. And lots of free parking on the cross streets. Nice!

    Dine in weekend special

Had their dine in weekend special. Great value. However their chutney is cold. Maybe because we came just as they open for business. The food was served fast.

There are so many restaurants in Vancouver that deliver, and at the end of the day, this checks the boxes in so many ways (at least our takeaway did) that when I come back into town again, it's on the list for a family dinner.

The servers took great care of us. My favorite dish was the Ragda Samosa Chaat. I actually wanted to order a second one, but I asked one of the lovely servers for a recommendation instead. She suggested the Dahi Puri Chaat, and the layers of flavor were incredible! The fresh yogurt, chutneys, and pomegranate made every bite feel like a party in my mouth. Obviously, the garlic naan and chicken curry also deserve an honorable mention. The staff warned us that another party was arriving at 9:00 PM, so we were trying to wrap things up. This made it even more surprising when they brought out a mango-coconut dessert with a candle and sang 'Happy Birthday!' I felt so special. It was a lovely surprise that made the whole experience memorable. Thank you to the Sula team--you made my day!

We were seated by the front, but looking deeper into the restaurant I liked the darker colour tones and wall accents. We tried shared our Dine-Out meals: - Sarson Ke Phool: Good. Broccoli and cauliflower were way more softer than expected, but nice flavours. - Chicken Kondattam: Very good. Still a bit crispy and loved the spices. - Raw Mango Bhel: Good. I really like the flavours and textures in this dish. Just wished it didn't get soggy so fast. - Hyderabadi Murgh: Good. Just a great dish to go with the rice. - Khurmani Kofta: I didn't enjoy this one. I've never had this dish before, but tasted more like a dessert. Maybe something I'm not accustomed to. - Ginger Lamb Biryani: Good. Well made and very fragrant. - Rose Pistachio Tres Leches: OK. It was fine. Not too sweet, but nothing outstanding. - Classic Coconut Payasam: Good. Very simple but comforting. Service was pleasant. No issues came up. Overall, a good meal. I enjoyed most of the dishes, and felt it reasonably priced. I'd consider coming back

It looked like a small place from the outside but they cater to bigger groups as well - we were a group of 10 that went there on a Sunday night. The restaurant wasn't too crowded. For food, we got their achari chicken from their tandoor menu. It was really good, we went for a medium spice level for it but I think we could have done hot. The flavours were really good and chicken was cooked very well! We also got their kathal tikka (which is basically jackfruit), it's so hard to find that in Vancouver but Hariyali did an incredible job! Everyone on the table were a big fan of it! Their menu is pretty big and we didn't get a lot of their items but I will definitely come back to try more things. It is also pretty affordable! Would recommend a visit!

On the table, we had: Chicken Vindaloo Dosa Gongura Cheese Masala Dosa Mini Cheese Dosa (from the Kids menu) Gongura was a new word for us, so we had to inquire about that one. The waitress explained that it was a type of salty spinach. My husband heard her clearly but somehow I missed the word "salty" when she was speaking and so when I started eating my food I was quite surprised with how salty the dish was. It was a bit too salty for my taste, so I wasn't too crazy about this dish. Not something I'd order again. My husband on the other hand tried my dish and loved it! He said he would order it for himself the next time he comes to the restaurant. Our daughter's Mini Cheese Dosa was quite impressive. It looked more like a regular size Dosa than a "Mini" Dosa! While I wasn't too crazy about the Gongura filling in my Dosa, the rest of the Dosa was still excellent. The Dosa itself was nicely done, and I would absolutely come back to this restaurant and try a different flavor next time. Masala dosa, sambar, and parotta. Some of the best I've had! So I returned with a Friend a few nights ago to order a quick takeout (2X sambar, 2X parotta). We did have to wait 15 minutes which is great because you know you're getting fresh food. The sambar was quite a lot smaller than last time, as was the parotta. Still great quality. But disappointed my previous order made 2 meals when ordered through delivery app. When in person, portions were 1/2. Staff were very friendly and I believe the owner came up to us to chat. Nice! I still highly recommend! Apparently they have a weekend buffet as well, though the chafing stations I saw only held 12 various sized small to medium dishes. Would I order again? In a heartbeat! Would I question the portion sizes to the owner on my next visit? Absolutely!!! Why do I get 2X the portions when ordering through delivery app rather than in person? But still, I rank this the best sambar I've had in Vancouver (next to my own).
