Dosa is my go to food in restaurants as it's comforting filling healthy and very delicious. I tried Jj dosai on Fraser street seeing its ratings. I ordered masala dosa, onion rava masala dosa and eggplant dosa - all three of them were amazing. I never expected that eggplant dosa could also be delicious. I ordered it on spicy side - keep it medium as spicy can be too hot. But it was very yummy and tasty. The combination of eggplant sabzi inside a dosa batter is superb. The sambhar and the chutneys were delectable as well. The place has nice calm ambience with pictures of Indian monuments and cultures. It's clean and the music in background is soothing too. Staff is nice and service is okay. Staff is friendly but could be a little waiting time as everything is prepared fresh and at the moment. Would really recommend this place if you are up for south Asian dosa mood and try some starters too. Overall good experience.

I admit upfront that I know little about Indian cuisine. Who'm I kidding; I know less than nothing about it - and even less than THAT about Sri Lankin food. But my kid and I are binge watching last season's MasterChef Australia, and the contestants cook A LOT of these cuisines' dishes, and we really wanted to try out some of these dishes. Searching Yelp, we found this restaurant that offered these foods, and the reviews were stellar. The reviews were spot on. This place is amazing! The place is totally unassuming from the outside (to say the least), and perhaps less so on the inside. My kid and I had made a reservation prior to visiting but we needn't have; there was only one other couple here, and they left soon after we arrived, as they had finished their meal. The interior had very casual diner-esque tables and chairs, with paper posters and flyers taped to the walls. Despite the lack of decor, the place was super clean and, hey, we like diners, so we didn't mind the bare bones aesthetic. Our waiter was incredibly nice, and we asked his advice on what to order, as the menu us unbelievably large, with so so many dishes to choose from. We ordered three dishes: the butter chicken dosai, the lamb kothu roti, and the chicken kurma. The butter chicken dose is the house specialty and our waiter strongly recommended it. Wow, it was beyond delicious. My kid loved the chicken kurma but I found it way too spicy (and we had asked for the mildest spiciness level, too. I am a total woos). The pappadoms that came with this dish were crazy good, like the best cracker-breads I've ever had (they tasted as if they were puffed up or popped, but they were flat. Just delicious, with the best, lightest texture). The kothu roti was also delicious. All portions were huge and we brought so much home (we love leftovers! And we have enough for at least 2 more meals for each of us). We have already decided what we are going to try when we next visit (the prawn curry). Great place. And lots of free parking on the cross streets. Nice!

    Dine in weekend special

Had their dine in weekend special. Great value. However their chutney is cold. Maybe because we came just as they open for business. The food was served fast.

This is a solid restaurant in Vancouver that does a good job capturing authentic Indian and Sri Lankan flavors. One of the items worth trying is their variety dosa, which offers three different types of dosas accompanied by sambar and chutney. While the dosas are good, I've had better elsewhere, so they didn't blow me away. Samosas were also good. The Indian coffee is authentically made and pairs well with the food. The standout dish for me is definitely their Chicken 65. As you can see from the photo, it looks just as it should, and it tastes even better. This dish alone would make me consider a return visit. Service is good, though not extraordinary, and the restaurant offers a comfortable dining environment as it's usually not too crowded. I'm looking forward to coming back to try some of the curries on their menu, which seem promising.

They have so many different dosas (staple south Indian breakfast dish), I tried their cone dosa from their kids menu because their normal dosas are so huge! Their cone dosa came with two types of chutney - coconut and tomato both were good. It also comes with sambar (curry) which was much better than many other places, it wasn't watery and had good flavours. My friend got their lamb vindaloo dosa which had lamb vindaloo filling in the dosa, it was spicy but I loved it!! For appetizer we got their fried bell peppers, so unique but pretty delicious. We also got their sev puri chaat which was pretty good too, but not as spicy. Their service was pretty fast! We were a group of 10 people but we were seated right away on a Sunday afternoon and everything was served very quickly. Would recommend :)

We dropped in on a Friday evening (7:30pm). Service is no frills but one of the only places I've seen that gives you the option to tip 5%. Menu consists of appetizers, soups, chef specials, dosa, uthappam, curries, vegetarian speciality, Indo Chinese and biriyani. Two weekday specials; Tuesday any dosas ($8.99) and Friday any biriyani ($11.99). We were asked for spice level, opting for medium. - Eggplant curry ($13.50) - all their curries come with rice and paratha. Couple of nice chunks of eggplant. Curry was okay but didn't make me want to keep on going back for more. - Madras spice fish curry ($15.99) - fish pieces were tender, but curry was too similar in flavour to the eggplant. - Chicken biriyani ($11.99 Friday special) - decent amount of chicken but the rice was dry. Had to add the raita to soften things up. - Mandurai chicken kothu paratha ($16.99) - easily the worst dish of the night. The kothu paratha was dry, bland and uninspiring. We barely ate a third. Maybe stick with MS's dosas instead. 2.5 stars.

I found this place and decided to try them out on a visit to Surrey. They have a small menu, with many items listed online that they don't necessarily have when you phone in to order. We had 3 people to feed, so we got 3 mains plus some appies. We got the veggie kothu roti ($10.50), the lentil curry ($10.90) and cabbage curry ($10.90, plus some samosas ($1.20 each) and Sri Lankan veggie rolls ($1.50 each). The curries come with rice and roti. The food took 45 minutes to be ready, which is kind of long, but it was ready waiting when they said it would be. The kothu was solid, though the roti had a somewhat rubbery character that I didn't recall from previous versions of kothu I'd tried. It was nicely spicy and was served with a side of spicy tomato-based gravy. Solid enough. 3.5/5 The lentil curry was decent, similar to an Indian dal, but pretty simple and without much flavour depth. Passable. 3/5 The cabbage curry was creamy and unlike anything I'd tried. Nicely spiced, but not overly interesting. 3/5 The samosas and veggie rolls were both tasty. The rolls especially had a very nice texture, with good flaky wrapping. For the price, this was a screamin' good deal. I wasn't blown away by the food quality though, and the menu is pretty limited in choice. Nice, helpful service, and it's great that they can cater to vegans.
