I bought an expensive custom-tailored suit from Hilburn almost a year ago. After a two-hour fitting I waited expectantly for my new suit. When it arrived, I couldn't even get the jacket on it was so poorly tailored. So I returned the suit and after more measurements got something back that was equally ill-fitting. My sales rep said to just hang on to that one and wait for a third jacket based on still more measurements. This one is no better; in fact the sleeves are almost two inches two short and the jacket only can be worn if someone helps me into it. When after nine months of waiting and hours of fittings, I said I wanted to exercise my promised right to return if not satisfied, I was told no--it was too late. Apparently they just dragged out the process to avoid having to live up to their promise. I would not do business with this company in part because of their poor quality but primarily because of their poor business practices. read more

I wish we could give them 0 stars. My fiance ordered a made to measure shirt from them- just to try them out- a few weeks ago and we had very high spirits. However, ever since we left after being measured nothing has been positive about our experience. We stopped back in to pick up the shirt since the "stylist" who also happened to be the studio manager it seems, said it was best to ship it to there and if there were any issues they could remake the shirt. When we went back to pick up the shirt, it was horrrrrrible and the new stylist who was helping us couldn't stop saying how amazing it was an how well it fit him (our original stylist was not there that day). It was TIGHT. I mean he could not move his arms without his biceps looking like they were going to pop the material- isnt this the whole point of made to measure? to fit it to him and not be another poorly size store stock shirt? The top button by the neck was buckling and wouldn't lay flat because it was too tight. They didn't seem to think that was an issue...as well as the buttons on the chest being too tight when he moved. The next issue, it was EXTREMELY fitted to his waist. He's a guy, why does he need something skin tight? We had planned to use this for our wedding. Nope. Upon later review of the order, it seems the stylist chose the "European Slim Fit" option for the shirt without telling us. That's literally the tightest option you can get- and we did not ask for. He just wanted the normal slim. There was also a classic option. Fast forward a bit, we took it home because we felt pressured since the stylist kept saying how wonderful it was. We were still disappointed and decided to bring it back. I went back in the following Monday and tried to return the shirt. They acted SHOCKED that I was returning it. Since I did not bring my fiance, they could not force him to get refit. The stylist was there from Saturday when we picked up along with the manager stylist who fit him originally- LET ME TELL YOU HOW FAST HE HUSTLED OUT OF THERE, this was about 4:15pm, not like i got there as they were closing or anything. And the other stylist did not want to give us his card ( or name, but I have that too) , he kept giving me the original one over and over. I don't need another damn card. He took it back and said he would have to mail it back in- but couldn't provide any type of receipt or confirmation email that it was in their possession. Apparently, we later found out that the stylist gets the confirmation - WHY DOES THIS HAPPEN. ITS NOT HIS CC THIS IS PURCHASED ON? So we had no proof that this was being returned, and for $186 (yes they charge you freakin shipping on this expensive shirt) we could have been screwed if the refund never came back to us. They also LOVE to keep your measurements on lockdown. We were told that once we got the shirt we could have access in our online account to them... nope. And the stylist didn't even know how to show us where to go in their system. He admitted he barely knew his own part. He could only show us the backend system which was useless to us. Well we waited several days and we got the refund...however, it was LESS THE SHIPPING. Their website CLEARLY states 100% moneyback guarentee on everything if you are unhappy. Calling their customer service at their home office is even more useless (also in Dallas). If you are on hold for longer than 5 minutes it automatically sends you to voicemail- which they very clearly weed through calls they don't want to call back. The first time I left a voicemail they called me back. The next two, nope. Ignored. I was told the manager- named "Queen"- is the only one who could refund the shipping. Well guess who doesn't want to call anyone back and was conveniently in a meeting? We are less than thrilled with this company and would never suggest them to anyone. They are higher priced- for similar fabrics to other companies- have untrained staff, and horrible customer service. Please try out something else such as M Tailor, HALF THE PRICE, and we were able to get a perfectly fitting shirt. Oh, and free shipping- who doesn't love free shipping? Stay away from this company, they are trying too hard to be good at something they are very obviously struggling with...concept it there. Not executed well. I had a salesperson come to my office approximately 2 months ago. I ordered a suit for about $1,200. This price is more than I have paid at places like Nordstrom,but I am told I will have great service. The suit was delivered with different pants fabric than the jacket. I tell the sales rep the suit pants don't match. The sales rep tells me J Hillburn will send me the correct pants, and says keep the incorrect pants. The new correct suit pants are supposed to arrive soon. Three weeks later I receive an email stating that since this is a new fabric J Hillburn can't make a matching suit pants. One would think if J Hillburn advertises a suit they would be able to deliver it. Then I ask for a credit back on my credit card. The sales rep tells me they want the jacket back and wrong pants back before issuing me a credit. So I am now inconvenienced of bringing the clothes to my office to wait for a credit after I am told to keep the incorrect pants. This company is misleading and has terrible service. In the future I will go to Nordstrom and get real service at a lower price. read more

In a city where BMW's feel as ubiquitous as Hondas and women get decked to the nines in the latest dresses for a regular bar, I felt ambushed by how fierce the fashion in Dallas had become. Regardless of the number of shirts initially ordered, they only make one shirt to start to make sure the measurements are just right. Having already had been disappointed by custom shirts from China, India, and even the states, I felt resigned that I would forever be confined to pedestrian shirts from "off the rack". My first shirt from J Hilburn didn't inspire very much confidence, feeling more baggy than a Brooks Brother shirt and looking almost like a dress in the mirror. But to their credit, they did everything to make things right. Steve definitely knows his shirts from the fabric right down to the construction of all the main designers. He listened patiently to exactly how I wanted my shirt was fit and got it exactly right after the first rounds of alternations. I'm now on my fourth shirt and the quality of the lining, the fabric, the cut, and the fit are all amazing. Compared to the Hugo Boss, Paul Smith, and Ted Baker's in my closet, these new custom shirts really put them to shame. Only the Zenga and Armani shirts I have really put up any muster, but J Hilburn comes custom at a fraction of the price--J Hilburn may be one of the best kept men's fashion secrets in Dallas that I'm almost hesitant to write this review. Worst experience I have ever had at a retail store. Would give a zero if I could. Tried to return a plain white dress shirt I had made for my wedding due to incorrect coloring on the buttons. Was told it was unlikely I could get a new one ordered/made in time for the big day. Not a problem, I understood that it was cutting it too close to order a new one, so I asked to just return it for a full refund but instead I was given a sob story from the "stylist". Apparently, she had already received her commission from the sale and it would be taking money out of her pocket! She became very rude and pushy. She attempted to make me feel like I was taking money from her. Never felt so awkward in a store or pressured. I will never go there again. These guys don't deserve a 1 star! After the second remake, I gave up and decided to go back to good old Nordstrom and NM. The sales girl became incredibly rude sending me emails in all caps and exclamation points. The quality of the clothes was poor but I was willing to give it a try bc they went on and on about the fit. I'm pretty sure this some sort of multi level marketing trash as well bc she told me they get cars based on sales volume. Anyhow, lesson learned here! Last month I ordered a single pair of slacks from J Hilburn. Here's my experience and it wasn't pretty. Bottom line: the service throughout was abysmal. I had to get over $80 worth of alterations to make them fit--less than half of which the salesperson is willing to reimburse. Overall I felt like I was dealing with the cable company rather than a firm committed to extraordinary customer service. I like the vision of J Hilburn, and the slacks looked great--after I got them altered. But if my experience is typical, the firm needs to improve its customer service hiring, training and policies. Details below: My big ask from the salesperson was that the slacks be ready in 4 weeks, for an event I was hosting. Because I was very busy, I wanted to handle the entire process over the phone--I knew the fabric I wanted and was fine with them using measurements from J Hilburn slacks I bought previously. The salesperson proceeded to complicate everything that followed and push back on almost every request I made: - When she couldn't find my account record showing measurements of the slacks I previously purchased, she insisted that I call J HIlburn corporate to track it down--which took two phone calls and 15-20 minutes, and they still couldn't find my account info. Plus it's kind of annoying when a sales person puts you to work. - I asked her to just take measurements directly off the slacks, but she pushed back saying that wouldn't work (which sounds dubious). So I'd have to meet with her: there's another 30/45 minutes gone. While taking measurements for slacks, she then started measuring me for shirts. When I objected that I wasn't ordering shirts, she said she wanted to have the measurements in case I did. Message: Her convenience was more important than my time. - In addition to sketchy customer service, she also seemed poorly trained on clothing. When I asked questions about the type of wool used in my existing slacks, as well as the pair I was ordering, she seemed oblivious that there are different types and quality for wool! It's all wool. I also thought she seemed unsure when she took my measurements. I'm sorry to say I was right... - Later, when my slacks didn't arrive in the 4 weeks promised, she said I'd get them two days before I departed for the event. When I said that wouldn't leave time for any alterations if needed, she Insisted the pants would fit perfectly on arrival. They didn't. They needed $81 worth of alterations for the length, crotch and seat, and pant width. The slacks as delivered fit like something off the rack. - When I sent her a credit card receipt for the alterations, she--you guessed it--pushed back again. She said they would only pay $35 since I didn't provide an itemized receipt--as if I'm trying to scam them out of 50 bucks!--and then sent me a link to their "policy." Btw, she didn't request an itemized receipt. Message: She not only doesn't trust me, she's not even going to try to verify the charges. And that pretty much summed up the quality of service I received from J Hilburn when ordering a simple pair of slacks. Rather than an up and coming company committed to extraordinary customer service, I felt like I was dealing with the cable company. read more

Angie (stylist) and Michael (lead at store) used a detailed measurement system, fitting algorithms and observational approach that made my first shirt, jacket and casual pants fit perfectly. The best part is now that this is all in the database, my stylist recommends individual clothing that I might like, puts together full outfit suggestions and recommends gift ideas to my wife without having to remeasure every time. I usually shop once a year so this gives me four seasons of updates! Great concept! I found J. Hilburn because I like the quality of the clothes, especially the shirts and suits. I like the depth and breadth of clothing options (on line has even more!) too. Everything was delivered in less than two weeks and I got a follow up call asking me about the fit. I ordered from a rep in Chicago. I ordered a slacks and a custom shirt to try them out. Custom shirt - Upon delivery, the custom shirt had a collar too tight to button. The rep took the shirt back to adjust the collar. After I got it back, it is better, but can't really work with tie cause dimensions are off. Oh well, at least it buttons. Semi made to measure slacks - Their slacks are measured by the waist and then I had to get the pants hemmed to the right length myself. WTF, what do I need the sales rep for then? I thought that was pretty odd. To make matters worse, the pants were too tight after they arrived so the reps one job of measuring to get an off the shelf waist measurement was a failed task. Because the waist was too tight, the J Hilburn rep took the pants to a tailor to loosen. The second time I wore the slacks after they had been loosened, the slacks ripped at the seat seam. I have never had this happen with any pair of pants. I asked to return to the pants for a refund. That request was denied. It shouldn't be surprising that I am not going to use J Hilburn again. I have tried two other custom clothing places out of Chicago with a lot better results...Balani and Tom James. read more

Ordered a suit and shirt. None of the pieces fit when delivered. The shirt was so small it had to be sent back and the suit required over $100 of additional tailoring. Equally disappointing was the sales rep's total disregard for the problems. She tried to convince both of us that the pieces fit even though they obviously did not. Upon visiting the tailor recommend by J Hilburn he mentioned that the suit appeared cut for another person. Would recommend not using this company for any products. Not worth the time and effort. I would also advise J Hilburn to involve professional tailors its quite clear from our experience that the sales person had little to no idea of how to take measurements and did not feel comfortable doing so. read more

Very good quality cloth, horrible customer service. Here's what happened... They use Italian cloth from solid suppliers, so the quality of the fabric itself is excellent. The measurements taken are quite good. If you ever have a technical problem, however, you may not be pleased with the customer service. There's a problem with their website that results in me being unable to check out. It's been this way for over a year (I alerted one of their stylists to it, but she's a stylist, not tech support, so although she probably should have passed it along, I don't blame her). Now, I went to order something again recently and had the same problem again. I contacted tech support this time (Maggie is who I dealt with), here's where it gets bad: she decides to try resetting my password but doesn't tell me, so I get a password reset e-mail which, of course, I ignore and delete (I didn't request it and am not expecting it, these emails even explicitly tell you that if you didn't request it, do NOT click the link). She tells me she reset my password (she didn't, I checked, the old password works). I respond advising her of this. No reply. I send another email a couple weeks later: no reply. I send two or three more emails each spaced a week apart and still no reply. I have now emailed my stylist and every C-level exec for whom I could get a name/email. We'll see what happens but I'm done buying from them, this was awful and frustrating. I'm only slogging on because I have a J. Hilburn giftcard from my mother for Christmas with $100 on it I don't want to go to waste. read more

Bought 2 suits from a local stylist for about $2,500. No measurements were taken. Suits came back with pants that are so tight that I cannot lift my legs, jackets bunch up on the shoulders. The sleeve length on the jackets was an inch to short on both coats. Furthermore, on each jacket one of the sleeves was noticeably longer than the other. Was told that they would give me two pairs of new pants but the new pants would not match the suits because they are sold out of the suit pants now. Further told I would get a $100 credit and reimbursement for any alterations. Submitted receipts for alterations and never got a refund. New pants (that now don't even match my suit) were ordered. Today I look at my credit card and they charged me for the pants! Not sure if it is a company problem or an issue of incompetence with the local stylist, probably a combination of both. This place is very very unprofessional. I had appointment with Wedny Yu,(Houston) on 05/19 at 3:30 p.m. and she was supposed to come to his apartment. My son is an MD, and very busy, I took time off from work. When I made the appointment on 5/17, it was they who said they would go to my son's apartment to measure him. I his mom, was supposed to meet them there. At the last minute, 2 hours before the appointment, she says that her company finds it "in their reps best interest" to meet at a public place and wants us to meet her at her husband's office. And then she says, if we do not do that, we are cancelling. Long story short, we lost time. (As busy professionals we do not have the time to make another appo) And since my son is moving to a different city, he wont get his suits on time. NEVER TRUST WENDY YU read more

So in Feb of 2019 I was lead to think this was a costume clothing service until they told me when I showed up it was an algorithm fit basically one size fits all based on your size and weight, not custom to your chest, arms or shoulder size, just the average to the public would be as close as we could get. Well the reason you go and pay for customize as you know is you want preferred premium service with great quality fit and willing to pay the premium price, well...don't expect to receive it here, you wont! its a total scam, you get screwed, five months later I'm still out over 1.2k and still no delivered product and nothing in sight. They are looking into and telling me internally what happened, but I dont give a flying $hit about their HR and BS people on plan, thats not problem to know, thats your internal BS, just give me my product I purchased, fully compensated and move on to you next victim! Don't waste your time and money on a shirt from J Hilburn. After you wear this shirt for 30 min it's wrinkled to hell. The buttons are brittle and have a tendency to break. At 100 to 200 a shirt you are much better off heading over to Brooks Brothers and buying from their non iron Luxury collection. Plus, who wants to wait 4 weeks to get your shirt made by a 13 year old in China? If you are a midget or abnormally large, maybe J. Hilburn can make a "custom" shirt for you. read more

My husband had been buying J.Hilburn for a while before I discovered he was having quite a fun time of it with his personal stylist. They were constantly texting, exchanging pictures of themselves (not exactly wearing the J.Hilburn clothing), receiving and buying gifts for each other, meeting for coffee.... and on and on it went until the texts reached me as I was doing software updates on my husband's ipad and he didn't realize their texting was coming my way. It is an interesting marketing plan, but very painful for the spouse. I would never recommend these clothes to anyone and I am thinking of donating the lot of them to someone more deserving of wearing them. BTW, we are in Minneapolis area. His comfort is crucial especially spending hours in the same clothes in and out of the car, buildings, meetings with clients, etc. conventional "off the rack" suits and shirts are just to hard to find and don't always work. Our rep in Massachusetts is Janet Bessemer- she is fantastic. She is also a professional traveling tailor which I'm sure makes her extra great at fitting men so well. These clothes are 100% great quality and worth ever dime. Some are reasonably priced- others can be pricey, but well worth it all the same. I'm happy my husband has found a clothier that isn't unreasonably priced. Very happy with j.hillburn and very happy with Janet Bessemer. read more

This review is for the company in general. These suits cost over $800. My suit when it was delivered did not fit and the pants had to be remade. After having the suit for about 6 months the lining started to fall out of one of the sleeves. I met with my stylist at a tailor and had to have the pants remade and my jacket repaired. 5 months later my coat lining is falling apart again today. I finally was able to talk to a J Hilburn representative in Dallas today who told me there was nothing to do and that my suit was falling apart from normal wear. I've only had it for just over a year. She told me that their suits are expected to last between 18-24 months. When asking what they were going to do about my suit she hung the phone up on me. They have the worst customer service I have ever experienced and I will never be buying anything from them again. read more

My experience with J Hilburn has been much less then expected. My initial order was for a suit and 3 shirts. The shirts fit great and the fabrics were good. The suit on the other hand was a disaster. I ordered a 1/2 lined suit. The 1st jacket came to me with lined sleeves, which they agreed to return, the 2nd suit came fully lined with the sleeves too short for even a tailor to fix. They agreed to return the suit, but it was purchased for a wedding, and now it is too late for a new suit to be made. This is after I bought new shoes and a belt to match the suit! I ordered my initial shirt and then reordered six more. My first shirt had to be altered when it came in but once they got it down the next ones were great. They had a good selection of top shelf fabrics and for the price I think they are a bargain as I have had lesser quality for twice the price. I will go back and try their slacks now. read more
