Tried JHenry & Sons whiskey at the Minnesota Monthly Spirits Classic in Minneapolis. It was excellent. My favorite was the Spooner Rye Reserve. But all of the samples were wonderful. Very nice guys working there also. This was at Orchestra Hall - so the ambiance was fabulous and fun.

Enjoyable afternoon spent at the tasting room. Pleasant staff and excellent bourbon flight. We also tried a few bourbon cocktails, which were very tasty (having high quality bourbon helps). The tasting room can get quite busy, so plan ahead with your drink orders.

Raquel was the absolute best in the tasting room! We came on a Friday afternoon and tasted bourbon and had a few cocktails and mocktails. The bourbon was great and the company was outstanding. Tastings are $10 for 4 small glasses. Cocktails are very reasonably priced at $10/each as well. Come check it out!

My husband and I visited J Henry & Sons over the weekend as part of our anniversary celebration. We are both big bourbon people so we're really excited about the experience. It did not disappoint! We started off in the tasting room where we sampled the small batch, patton road reserve, and bellefontaine reserve. Bryce, the manager, taught us about each bourbon as we tried them while also giving us some history on J. Henry. We learned all about how they developed the red corn the used at UW Madison and about the distillation process. After the tasting, Josh took us on a tour of the farm and the rickhouse. We even got to bring a cocktail with us from the tasting room. I got the bourbon lemonade cocktail. It was absolutely delicious! Josh was a super awesome tour guide. He was extremely knowledgeable about J. Henry and bourbon in general. He answered tons of questions after the tour was over as well. J. Henry is a must visit! The bourbon is so unique and delicious, plus the fact itself it has a fantastic back story. Go visit and see for yourself!

These guys just can't stop winning gold medals!!

Nestled back into the trees, off a hidden Road in Dane, Wisconsin, lies the J. Henry and Sons family farm. With generations of family farming on the plot, J Henry found himself in a bit of a pickle back in the 80s and decided the best way to survive the farmers crisis of the time was to start making bourbon. And it's not just any bourbon they decided to make, but one fueled entirely by the power of Wisconsin grains, families, machinery and distillers. The tours are put on by either a member of the Henry family or the incredibly talented and certified sommelier Bryce, who takes you on a journey through the history of the farm as well as a fantastic tasting through three of their incredible products. If you're looking to enjoy a couple of hours Learning about how their bourbon is made, how to taste their bourbon, and all about how they're revolutionizing the industry, be sure to stop in as soon as you possibly can. Keep in mind that with the coronavirus they are not allowing walk in tours. You need to either call ahead or schedule online.

Like dating for a long while, and then finally meeting someone you can fall in love with, but maybe because you did something really cool on the date. I like bourbon. This is good bourbon... Wait, what's that you say Kentucky snob? Hold on says I. This is American. This has 60%+ corn mash (a red heirloom varietal from the university of WI vaults). And the water comes from the Yahara watershed which is full of limestone (not a requirement). Anyway, before you interrupted, this place is lovely. The couple who own the place are both lovely and knowledgeable. The tasting room has a warm fireplace that creates a delightful ambiance on a cool fall day. Russell's Reserve 10 year is my go to. I like it, but I haven't loved it in a while. The J Henry 5 year was comparable. The J Henry Reserves proved significantly better and worth the extra investment. And between the fire, the conversation and the education, I fell in love all over again.

Such a great experience. They truly love what they do and their bourbon reflects that. Their family history and love of corn makes the bourbon dance on your tongue. We will be back

Making the trip from Kentucky to Wisconsin to visit this great Distillery was so worth it! Surrounded by neighboring farms the J. Henry Henry & Sons Distillery sits on one of its original farm but it rents many plots of land to grow the important base to its spirits to include red corn. Part of this tour includes its two rickhouses. The first rickhouse sits in one of original dairy barn but it reached its capacity and so another had to be erected! That beautiful space not only houses barrels but also doubles at an event space where they even host a Kentucky Derby party each year! One of the unique aspects of this Distillery is that they do not use a pot still, they air dry their seed. Did I mention that J. Henry comes from a long line of seed farmers! The last part of this wonderful tour ends in the original Henry farmhouse that has been converted into a cozy tasting area and offices on the second floor. I say its cozy because I felt like I was in a friends open kitchen. The area consists of a kitchen, bar, tables and a fireplace. Our tasting was led by Jamie who was not only personable but had alot of knowledge in the process of making bourbon but the Henry history. We started out with some wonderful cocktails as Jamie began with her introductions. There were a great selection of cocktail to choose from including a Liz Henry concoction and its very own Dane Donkey which is basically a Mule. The Distillery is located in Dane, Wisconsin, hence the name! All in all, I will certainly return to J. Henry & sons, especially in warmer weather to enjoy the trees and fields!

About a month or so ago, I had the pleasure of tasting a great Wisconsin Straight Bourbon called J. Henry & Sons. I had no idea just how brand new this whiskey was - everything was just bottled in March. I was intrigued to learn more about it. Today my wife and I had the pleasure of visiting the J. Henry & Sons farm, where the corn is grown and the whiskey is aged. We met with Joe Henry, the patriarch, who showed us around. Joe is incredibly down-to-earth and very easy to speak with. His passion about his Bourbon is evident. He wanted us to experience and understand what was going on at his little slice of heaven. We started off in the Tasting Room, which is the first floor of the family home. The Tasting Room is currently open on an appointment-only basis, and, again, is so new that it isn't yet fully furnished. The Henrys have put a lot of thought and effort into the design of the Tasting Room. It is complete with coffered ceilings, a display cabinet for the Bourbon, a bar-height counter, and several round high-top tables to sit, enjoy and sample. We walked down to the rickhouse, which was formerly the family's dairy barn. The rickhouse exposes the Bourbon to the bitter cold winters and the warm, humid summers. There's no climate-control, the aging process is completely based upon Mother Nature. As you enter, there's a collection of experimental barrels of whiskey. The rest of the rickhouse is stacked with barrels of the J. Henry & Sons Bourbon, aging gracefully for five years prior to bottling. Using his whiskey thief, he let us sample from a barrel that had been aging only a few months. Although still effectively White Dog, you could taste the barrel's potential. In another barrel, Joe let us sample some barrel-aged, proofed water, something that could be used to marry with the aged Bourbon. It was definitely interesting (in a good way). As stated earlier, the Henrys grow their own corn. This isn't just any corn, this is a special heirloom red corn developed in the 1930s by the University of Wisconsin. The large kernels have a fatter germ that leaves more starch behind. This red corn makes 60% of the mash. The Henrys also grow their own wheat and rye. The actual distilling, while not yet done on premises, is done in Wisconsin. Aged in #3 charred barrels, the mash creates a delicious Small Batch Bourbon. Custard hits you up front, with some brioche and toffee flavors and a soft spice. The creamy custard returns again for a lingering finish. The golden amber produces incredible legs on the glass and yields a very smooth finish. We were able to sample both the 92-proof bottling and the not-yet-released 120-proof cask strength version. This cask-strength version is easily enjoyed without water and produces little-to-no burn. Found for around $50 a bottle, if the Henrys can get their name out there and entice people to sample it, J. Henry & Sons Wisconsin Straight Bourbon could (and should) become the Next Big Thing.

    Birthday cupcake!

How does this place not have more reviews? Wow, my husband and I LOVED it here. Were there last December to celebrate his birthday. I don't remember what time we went, but were told to wait for a few minutes and then another tour would be going out. Joe Henry himself gave us and four others a tour of the grounds and provided a lot of great detail about how he got the business started and what it all entails. It felt very family-like and not like a big production type place (I hope it stays like that). The mixed drinks afterwards in the tasting room were fantastic - we had about 4 different ones to choose from after we sampled two of their bourbons. I think it was Liz who was serving us and also telling us a lot more about the family and business. A cupcake and candle topped it off for my husband's birthday, and we even got our bottle we purchased signed by Joe. We will definitely go back and bring friends and family - what a gem!!

The stores and building were a perfect blend of culture and modern day appeal. We truly enjoyed the celebration. It was culminated by the owner himself giving a small speech of his roots and transition of coming to America. We had a blast! Definitely would come back if in area. Bought a few nice wines and whiskey before leaving. They have this band and get togethers throughout the year. The whiskey I purchased was made specifically for the 250th birthday of America. At $120 a bottle; $100 goes to veterans. The blend is a mix of red, white and blue corn in the amount of percent of the colors of the flag! The grain blends consists of three colors of corn, red (41.5%), white (40.9%) and blue (17.6%) mixed to match the percentage of colors on the American flag.
