One plumber could install a gas line only, another plumber could install a gas line and the gas cooktop but not the hood, and an appliance installation technician could not install the cooktop because he could not cut into the existing granite top. So I found Max of MRI Construction and Remodeling on Yelp, and he said that he could do the work within that original scope -- cooktop, hood, and gas line -- but that we should anticipate a backup plan in case the granite cracked during installation. Because we plan to live in this house for as long as possible, we decided to go through a full kitchen renovation. We had a prior experience with another general contractor who was impossible to get a hold of and who could not ensure the quality of the subcontractors he hired, and interviewed another general contractor who gave us the impression that we would have to engage with suppliers and subcontractors more than seemed feasible. We are happy to say that we just finished our kitchen renovation last week! And it was finished a week earlier than scheduled. We are thankful to Max and his team of subcontractors! We are really happy with the final kitchen, given how much we cook at home. And surprisingly the process was easy despite its size and time of 6 weeks. Max has the strengths and qualities you want for your construction projects: he's incredibly responsive, honest and communicative, and willing and able to troubleshoot issues that come up, as they invariably do, both small and large. He makes recommendations if you ask and gives you options for decisions for which there are too many options. He works with an amazing group of subcontractors who are experts in their craft. Alex was quick with his reply and we arranged to meet at my home on the 4th of July, and he arrived exactly on time. At first, it took a few moments to catch on to his accent. This very pleasant handyman is formerly a Russian, and he is perfectly happy to be alive and working in the home of the brave. In he walked, very confident, with a fairly lrge satchel full of assorted tools. I brought him to the site of the offending troublesome valve and he set to work on it at once. In what was probably less than 20 minutes, he had the toilet flushing perfectly, at least 4 times, allowing a fill each time. Congratulations Alex! QUALITY: One cannot argue with success. The job was handled properly, promptly, with hardly a word spoken. At one point, he wanted to draw my attention to a part, and when he wasn't able to say it, he apparently tooked it up and showed me the translated word on his phone. Clever, this fellow, quick and clever. VALUE: Alex had agreed with me in advance regarding the fee. He was happy to take my check and after talking with me in general about some painting (Ceiling) I might wish to complete, for which he gave me a fine estimate, he drove away.
