I live in Big Bear and we were expecting a major storm when my Generac quit working. I spoke with their dispatch and connected with John, the owner. He thought they'd be up Tuesday but wasn't sure. The storm was due Wednesday. I got a call early Tues. Jason was in the area and could he stop by? He did, he came by, found AND fixed bad wire in transfer switch, then serviced the generator. We started speaking to John last October 2019. Due to the winds our power was getting shut off off by SCE so we wanted to install a generator. He's on the Generac website as a preferred vendor. He bragged about how many he's installed & asked if we wanted it permitted. We thought it best to get a permit because we have an HOA so it would probably be better for that and also any selling purposes down the road. He told us the county is very backed up so it could be a while. We said ok. We wrote him a check for $6200, the cost of the unit itself. He asked us for plot plans on our house & we got him those too. Months went by & I continued to check in with him. He would give me the same excuse that the county is backed up but the unit is ordered. He finally called me in March 2020 and told me that he would be delivering our generator tomorrow but there still have been no word from the county on the permit. Now here we are in August 2020 almost a year later so I decided to call the county. I asked if a permit has ever been pulled from my address, she said no. She also added that they approved tons of generator permits last fall and winter when all of those Edison blackouts were going on!!! No backups like he was talking about. Now Mr. Hunter will not return any of my calls! Do yourself a favor and do not go with the scam artist!! So now we have a huge generator sitting in a box in our backyard and are scrambling to find somebody else who can help us install it properly. read more

Our family waited 6 weeks for an appointment with Generac to evaluate our home for a whole house generator. This has been a major concern for us given the SCE blackouts. JC Hunter Electric was contracted by Gererac to do this task. Well, he confirmed our appointment 3 times and failed to show up 2 consecutive days in a row! He's unreliable and unprofessional. I don't recommend him under any circumstances. Read his other reviews on other sites. They demonstrate a pattern of this type of behavior where he leaves customers in a lurch, without so much as a care to their well-being. Now because of his irresponsibility, we have to start the entire process over again with a competitor. Because of the current demand, it will take months, placing our family at risk in the event of a power shut off. SHAME ON YOU, JC HUNTER ELECTRIC !!!!! read more

Unreliable and Unresponsive. Waited weeks for an appointment made through the Generac Website. Generac assured us we would be hearing from Hunter Electric the week before to confirm. Hunter Electric never called or showed up. We even called them directly to try and confirm and our appointment, left voicemail messages and never got a call back. This process was begun before the recent worsening issues with Edison. I would hate to be dependent on them for service or maintenance, especially if there are health issues on the line that depend on reliable power. Glad now that they didn't show up as subsequently learned of a recent project they completed for a neighbor and they were wildly overcharged. Another neighbor, who has a long-standing pre-existing generator from Hunter, also is reporting problems with getting phone calls returned. Fortunately, after a long and stressful delay, I later located another area contractor who did excellent work; was professional, reliable, and very fairly and reasonably priced. read more

Father, John helped me 10years ago when I first installed my Generac. Naturally, over the years there were no power failures and because of my disregard, I ended up in total failure. Oh, I would get to it. But we never had power failures and, of course, I never did anything. Well, after years of drought conditions we finally got rain and snow. Yeah for the "White Christmas" but it caused 5-25 days of power failures for almost everyone who lives up here in our great San Bernardino mountains. Throughout Thanksgiving we got 3 feet plus of snow and over Christmas, the same occurred, only less snow. I had to get my generator fixed just as soon as I dug myself out. I called JC Hunter Electric and John's son Jason came over to review and assess on the same day. He came, he saw and conquered, with only one return visit on-time the next day. His work associate Joshua was very attentive and helpful also. I really felt like the right people were taking care of my problem. I was back empowered with my generator power and ready for the next power outage. And just today we had another power failure (which is pretty routine up here now) and my sweet generator fired up and shut down just like it was supposed to and I hardly noticed what had happened. You have no idea how happy I am after having suffered without power for so many days. By all means, John and Jason and JC Hunter Electric are the best! They are honest, competent, professional, kind and considerate. I was sorry to see the other review that was very unsatisfied. It is unfortunate, but it makes me remember to recall to myself often, there is always more to the story. Happy New Year! It's a good idea to get a generator. A valuable investment. John and his son did an excellent job of installing my whole house standby generator from Generac. They not only installed it, they ordered it as well and handled the permit process. The only hiccup was that when they received the generator from the factory, the transport company had damaged the front panel & lid. It took awhile for him to get the replacements because he had to wait for the shipping company to send him a check for the cost of the replacements. After installation, he went over the operation & maintenance of the generator. He was very helpful and answered all my questions. In addition, they were very reasonable on the cost beating out another bidder by $5,000. I would whole heartedly recommend them for anyone looking to install a standby generator. read more
