Radio Shack was a little store in Boston with limited selection. You don't last that long without being extraordinary. Second, always good, friendly service-- I've always felt that they really liked what they were doing when they worked with you on a purchase. Third, They Know What They're Talking About. They didn't learn their stuff from a set of scripts and PowerPoints. They know their chips, the color codes on their resistors, and why some electrolytics went bad a few years back. And they sell you the right product, because they understand how electronics work. (For a long time, they even had a tube tester in the back and I bought tubes from them). They are a National Treasure. Use them.

However that does not excuse terrible customer service. Their salesperson sold me electric adapters for travel in India. Turned out they were the wrong adapters for India. An honest mistake. When I returned these incorrect and unused adapters I asked for a refund. Although this was their error, they refused a refund. Their policy is No Refunds only Exchanges even when the return is due to their own error. So you get stuck with a piece of paper to keep forever in your wallet even if you have no need for any of their products. In this store, the customer is always wrong. Caveat Emptor!
