My backyard patio was already landscaped, but it had a small koi fish pond that I was trying to get rid of. I didn't want the fish, it was creating mold/attracting mosquitos to the water, and the pumps took up a lot of space. So I wanted to remove it completely while still maintaining the overall landscaping to look continuous without the pond. Additionally, I wanted my fence to be reinforced and repainted. What sounds and looks like a relatively simple task was actually quite hard. They had to demo the concrete while saving the pieces so they could re-use it later. The floor tiles had to be matched as close as possible. Ultimately, his team worked really hard over 3 days and did a great job. It would never be perfect, but they did a great job maintaining the look so that it wouldn't be noticeable unless you were paying attention. Good experience!

While cleaning up the yard, he didn't have enough room in his truck to take everything to the dump, so he had to make a second trip. He charged me an extra $100 (over the amount quoted) for the second trip even though it was the same amount of debris that was there when he gave me the initial quote. He didn't tell me how much mulch to order because he didn't know how much for the size yard. Instead, he gave me the square footage of my yard and left it up to me to figure out. No big deal, I plugged the numbers into a calculator I found on the internet. The price he quoted for the mulch was very high in my opinion but I have a steep hillside in my backyard and didn't want to drag all that mulch up by myself. He said that he would spray the ground for weeds before spreading the mulch. He did not. I am already getting weeds all over my yard (1 week after the work was completed) and I don't even have any sprinklers in any of those areas. I texted him to ask when he will be over to spray the yard to kill the current weeds and prevent any new ones (at least for the summer), he called me and denied saying that the spraying was included and that he could spray but it would be extra. No thanks, Jose! He charged $600 to spread mulch in the front yard (which is flat) and it only took him and one worker 3 hours to complete. At $200/hour, I would rather spray the yard myself. If you hire this company, get everything in writing. Also, he only accepts cash which seems kind of shady to me. Jose, are you reporting your income to the IRS or just pocketing the money under the table? I wonder if I can report the money I paid you to the IRS so that you have to pay taxes on your income like the rest of us have to!

The Experience: Getting a Quote: Enrique was quick to respond on Yelp and was prompt in arriving to give me a quote. He walked the front and back yard with us and we agreed on the plan and price. An initial big cleanup and then twice a month maintenance. The Work: He showed up on time and did hours of work to tackle the big job of taking down the weeds and overgrown bushes and trees. He remembered everything that needed to be done from our initial quote conversation. He even helped me understand why parts of my grass refused to grow. I asked him about a large tree in our front yard and he helped me understand what needed to be done and that it would be a separate quote. Understandable because it would be a big job. He will be back in two weeks to finalize and clean up the rest of the weeds and other normal maintenance. The Quality: In the past, I've had tried about 3-4 different gardeners. While very nice people, always left me feeling like I had to keep calling things out or they were in and out as quickly as possible. It was easy to communicate with Enrique both in person in via text. He explained the process of getting the weeds out. He also understood that because we have pets, prefer a less toxic way to treat our weeds in areas our dog plays in. After the initial clean up we actually want to look at our yard again to enjoy these lovely Benicia days and evenings. I'm very happy with Enrique and am breathing a sigh of relief for a gardener that I can rely on and trust with our yard. Thanks Enrique!

After the bark removal and replacement was completed and after I paid Andres in full for all the work, the following day I noticed several areas in both yards that were not completely covered by bark and actually exposed the underlying landscape materials. I immediately contacted Andres about this concern, sent him several photos and requested more bark so that all areas would be completely covered. Andres totally dismissed this request and concern... to the point of that he did not bother responding. Furthermore, my Bougainvillea's previously healthy leaves dried up and crumbled two days after Andres replanted it. It's probably suffering from shock.
