I had a great experience with J&B with some issues with my laptop. The machine wouldn't take a charge, and wouldn't power on, and essentially I was at a standstill. Kevin at J&B was able to look at it same day, and diagnose the likely issue. Because it was just a minor setting change, the bench diagnostic and quick fix were at no charge. Came here to diagnose a computer that would not power on. I was fully expecting to have to replace a part, but thankfully they did not find any hardware issues. Giving them 5 stars is the least I can do to say thanks for amazing customer service. I brought in my laptop which had a broken hinge and broken wifi antenna. Of course I was hoping it would be a simple fix. They provided a free diagnostic and estimate (many places charge $50+ just to look at your computer and tell you what's wrong and give you a repair estimate) And Jim and Kevin called me to tell me about the hinge/wifi repair but had also checked my entire system and told me that my hard drive had returned a number of error codes and was on its last leg. They recommended buying a new system since the cost of the repairs (including new hard drive) would be over $300. So, long story short, I took their advice and invested in a new laptop and picked up my old system--- paying $0 for all their time! I had also dropped off an old desktop to see if there was any data that could be retrieved from the harddrive and they spent a good deal of time trying to recover it via an undelete function, but it was unsuccessful. Again, my cost was $0. I tried to pay some $$ for their time, but Jim was very firm about his business policy of not charging for diagnostics... They won't even charge me for a recycling fee. Wow. I truly appreciate honest, trustworthy advice from business owners who see me as a longterm client, not a one-time customer and are willing to pay it forward. read more

This review is overdue. Turned on my laptop one day and it was just dead. Laptop isn't that old (Dell XPS) but really didn't have the patience to send it back to Dell. First time I've had a computer failure and although I have a backup, not ready to trash the laptop and buy something new. I was at work in Escondido and did a quick search on Yahoo. So hard to tell what's legitimate and what's not. Then it dawned on me to check out Yelp. I'm always thinking of Yelp for food but not for services. Well, if it weren't for Yelp, I don't know that I would have found J&B. Called ahead and they were getting ready to close but stayed open for me. I explained my circumstances and they were very friendly and professional. Took my laptop and in less than 2 days had it working again and recovered all information. Best of all... the price. I was expecting to pay 3 times what they charged. And when I picked it up, they went through everything just to make sure it was working correctly and all of my data was intact. They are extremely professional and easy to talk to. I hope I never need help like again, but glad to know they are around if I do. update 1/24/2013: In my previous review, I had hoped to never need their services again and sadly I did and just a few months later. Well, essentially my previous review stands. Unfortunately I got hijacked by some pretty terrible viruses and before it could get to far, I went back to J&B and as on my previous experience, they did an outstanding job! They cleaned up my hard drive and reinstalled all my programs and returned my computer basically as it was before all the troubled started. But what I need to comment is on their absolute dedication to taking care of you. I was in desperate need of getting my computer back and they stayed until after 8pm (they close at 6pm) to get my computer back to me. I felt bad but they didn't seem to mind staying later and they are very personable as well. Custom PC started having issues after upgrade, constant BSOD and failures to start. Called up J&B and they had me bring it in. Called me a couple hours later with the problem identified - bad RAM. Brick and mortar operations like J&B are getting tougher and tougher to find. No shiny store front here with slick marketing or other nonsense. What YOU DO GET is stellar personalized customer service, hence my five star review. I brought my Microsoftly corrupted laptop in (2 hour update my a**) after its keyboard headed south for the winter. Jim told me right out of the box the they were buried with work, and there were about two dozen units ahead of mine. I appreciated his candor and dropped off my laptop with a promise of a 7 day follow up. Patience exercised, a well later I spoke with Kevin (in store tech) and he left me a really nice detailed after hours voicemail covering my options. Suffice to say, their knowledge of my problem (decline hard drive and crappy MS update) gave me the confidence that I was being treated fairly. Once diagnosed, my laptop will be back in my hands in under 10 days, and repaired at a third the cost of a new unit. This place is amazing!! A few years ago I had a laptop that I absolutely loved. I had a bunch of stickers on it and everything, I was so heartbroken when it stopped working. There was no way to fix the computer, but they recovered all the data for me and gave it to me on a terabyte hard drive, and I bought an identical laptop. I kept the old one in case I needed to replace anything on my new one. Flash forward a few years and my "new" laptop screen is badly cracked, and the audio driver isn't working. I brought it in with the old laptop that I kept so that the screen can be replaced. They were able to do that no problem, and they used the whole top part of my laptop so my new one has all of my stickers!! Not only that, they also switched the palmrests so I have all of those stickers on my new one too! All for a super reasonable price. I could not be happier! read more

Brought in my PC for issues that had been going on for a while. Occasionally freezing, my PC had problems for almost a year. I replaced my ram, video card and more. Couldn't figure it out. Brought it in and had excellent service. I feel bad I can't remember the guy at the desks name, but he was super cool and said they would try and figure it out. Ends up I messed up the thermal paste on the install. I was treated very professional even though I felt like a tech idiot. Definitely the only place I'll take my PC to in the future. I brought my gaming desktop in expecting it to be a tough process to diagnose what was wrong with it, considering that I had taken this place to the closest repair shop I could find to me and they couldn't figure it out. They gave me a time table, a free diagnosis, and an up-front cost of what labor would be like should I need the labor done. They told me 4 days. They lied. It was ready within less than 24 hours. I was skeptical because they were so quick, so I asked what they did and they added goop + thermal paste to my liquid cooled CPU. Having a gaming desktop, one would think I would know how to do this stuff myself, but sadly I do not have the time to diagnose this on my own. Took it home, and the random/often/freezing issues went away. Holy crap. We can now play 8 straight hours of Hearthstone and PUBG while running Spotify and having Facebook run in the background... before; less than 5 minutes into turning on my computer and seeing the "not responding" window show up after trying to open a game or playing a youtube video.. yeah that got old really fast. My MacBook Pro wasn't charging properly. They did a free diagnostic and figured out it was the power cord not the laptop. They did it same day! They had a new power cord in stock and only charged me for that. Second time they've helped my family! read more

Problem: 2 y/o Lenovo desktop machine screen freezes, no error messages displayed, requires hard reboot to get running. Random and inconsistent. J&B suspected internal temperature issue, common problem on many PC's; $80 to install a 2nd cooling fan. Fan did not resolve issue, problem was solved with software driver update to graphics card - J & B refunded the full amount for the fan install, great service here! read more

Based on the Yelp 5 rating, I took my MacBook in for a repair. Jim received the laptop, painstakingly noting the issue that needed addressing, and told me I asked that his Mac repair man will not be in until later in the day. When I asked about response time, telling him that it is a factor, he promised me that by days end I would hear back from his guy with both an initial diagnosis and price. After not hearing anything near days end I called to find out what was going on. I discovered that it had not even been looked at. Then the Mac repair guy got on and started making excuses. By the next day they had been able to save all of my documents and then transfer them to a newer model laptop.
