I love J. Alexander's in the Summit. The food is amazing. I am a huge prime rib connoisseur and I have always been in 7th heaven with each bite. My husband is in love with their steak skewers. He doesn't leave a crumb. Our service by the wait staff has always been exceptional. Our last visit, the waiter was a bit over the top but I would take that every time over an indifferent waiter. My only issue is the restaurant temperature is too cold. I should have prepared better but was not expecting to be shivering in the summer. Small price to pay for all the other positives. read more

Service was not very good. At first I felt ignored and it took a while to be approached. Keep in mind I was at a pretty empty bar. She asked me if I wanted a drink after 10min and then came back 10min later and asked me if I wanted a drink. I gave her my drink order, again, and she said "oh I forgot before." I ordered the prime rib and it was served nice and rare like I asked for, but it was salty and mashed potatoes were bland. Then after I was a quarter of the way through my food the bartender comes up hands me a steak knife and said "sorry I forgot to give you this." If I knew the area and wasn't so hungry I would've just left after she forgot my drink. Looking back on it I wish I had just just found another place. After hearing so much about this restaurant, my husband and I made a reservation on the 13th knowing that the 14th was going to be crazy for Valentine's Day. We were seated right away and our waiter asked about our drink order-I asked for water with lemon, my husband asked for tea with lemon. We both got water. Once we decided on our entree our waiter, yet again, brought the wrong thing for my husband. The prime rib he ordered was at the most 40-45% fat (once he received his correct order). Beyond gross as well as disappointing. Few refills, our candle wasn't lit (I mean it was Valentines eve)-Everyone else had theirs lit; refreshing our waiter's' memory on what we ordered and when done with our meal-we received our check (not from our waiter but someone passing by) even though we wanted a dessert. Had a prime rib sandwich. Nothing special. My friend Ordered a chicken salad and They brought it with the wrong dressing. They did allow my other friend to keep It tho as she said she liked that dressing. They did catch the mistake but after he had taken a bite which was not pleasant since it wasn't his preference for dressing. Service was nothing special either. A group of six came for dinner last night. We were seated quickly and table service was very good. The waitress couldn't have been nicer. Unfortunately, the French Dip sandwich ordered by one of our group was just awful. More than half of the "meat" was just fat and gristle When a complaint was voiced to management, the reply was something like "I'll tell the kitchen to watch this in the future." That might help future customers, but not the diner at our table, who left the restaurant hungry and will never return. His bill was not reduced. There was no offer to bring a quantity of meat to replace the fat and gristle. Such a poor management approach to a reasonable complaint expressed in a very polite manner. read more

We went on the Saturday before Mother's Day at 3:00 and sat at the bar.I ordered a club sandwich from the daily special menu and my husband ordered a pizza. after about 10 minutes we were informed that they were out of both the ingredients for the club sandwich and they had no pizza dough to make any pizzas. We just laughed and said "this would be a good place to open a restaurant." On Monday, the day after Mother's Day we decided to try again because my husband likes there pizzas. However, once again we were told they did not have pizza dough. So, he ordered soup and salad. They brought a small bowl of soup and said they would bring more in a few minutes. we also ordered a bottle of Pinot Grigio and were told that they were out of all brands of Pinot Grigio. They never brought the additional soup but i asked them to give us the soup to go. We have been to J Alexanders several time and have never had any issues. The really disappointing thing was that not one person apologized. The bartenders seemed to have an attitude and were not friendly at all. We heard the male bartender tell another customer who was having the same issues that there was nothing he could do about it. read more

This is one of our favorites to eat at. The service was quick and the atmosphere pleasant. I highly recommend that you have a reservation as they get very busy and it can be difficult or impossible to get a table as a walk-in. I got the Filet Mignon with Bearnaise and he got the Rotisserie Chicken. The chicken was good and moist. They come with smashed potatoes which translates into french fries. I order my steak blue and it came out to perfection. For dessert we got a slice of the chocolate cake which was very rich. We will continue to visit this wonderful location. read more

An amazing dining experience! I have been meaning to return to J. Alexander's being lucky enough to attend their fantastic Yelp event when they first opened at the Summit in Lexington. My husband and in-laws made a reservation for four on a Friday night, however it took about 10 minutes to be seated after arriving- not a huge deal, because the booth we sat at was great! Overall the atmosphere inside is very nice and well suited for a upscale dinner. Our server Corey was great and had been with J. Alexander's since they opened in Lexington. He knew the menu including the specials inside and out, and was able to give great recommendations. We started out by ordering a bottle of wine and calamari appetizer to split. For my entree I ordered the veggie burger, which I had at the Yelp event previously and loved! It did not disappoint. The menu is very meat-heavy (as you would expect at a steakhouse, but I appreciated that there is such a delicious veggie option. We ended the night with a slice of key lime cheesecake which was decadent to say the least. J Alexander's is not to be overlooked! I would definitely recommend visiting the Lexington location. We love this place and have been here many times, usually for business meals and/or special occasions. This time was for my birthday. My husband must have told them ahead of time because there was actually a birthday card on the table from the staff (very nice touch!). There were four of us so we started with drinks (I love the pear martini) and then jumped right into entrees. The food I've had here has been very good. I particularly like the dressed egg appetizer. The crab cake was good as well. I'm ready to go back to try a few more options. The Mac n cheese had croutons which was different for me, but it worked. Price point was a little high, but it was worth it. They took care to ensure social distancing was maintained. We recently stopped there after hearing rave reviews; I was delighted with the salmon. Unfortunately, my husband's meal was very unsatisfactory. He had ordered the prime rib, which was very tough. He sent it back and ordered the hamburger, which was very salty. Several others also sent the Prime Rib back at the same time we were there. My conclusion is with the high prices, this restaurant is not worth it. We may try this place again after things have returned to normal, or as normal as we are ever going to be. read more

This place has so much potential but they just can't be consistent. The first time I went the food was pretty good, and our waiter was nice. However, I notice another group complaining about their food but didn't think about it until the second time around. To start off we had the spinach queso dip which was good, and the deviled eggs which were also great. The girlfriend got the steak tacos, which she enjoyed. For my meal I got the Chef's recommendation of the Filet and Lobster Béarnaise medium with a baked potato loaded with no sour cream (I was very explicit about this). The steak was very over cooked, I mean it was not even pink. This in itself ruined the steak. Of course they offered to make me a new one but I just wanted to eat it and go on my way. They were very stingy with the Béarnaise on top of the steak. If you order a steak this way everything needs to be coated in it because it runs off after you cut the steak. I had maybe three bites of steak with the sauce before I ran out. The lobster on top wasn't terrible. After making them aware of the steak I then noticed that my baked potato had sour crème on it. Which isn't a big deal I just scooped it off but with Amy meal being $45 I shouldn't have to do that. Our waiter was pretty nice but I'm not sure when I ordered why he asked " Will you be splitting that?". Obviously I'm not going to split a small filet with my girlfriend and if I did I want to I would tell him. I'm not sure if it's because we were young or what. I hope he didn't infer that I could not pay for the meal. In addition to that I ordered a Hummingbird cocktail and did not receive that either. Although I did notice the older couples near us had no problems getting their drinks and only had to ask once. Honestly, if your going here I would stick with the appetizers and the cheaper food items that are hard to mess up. They did end up taking my meal off the check, but in my opinion when it's a valentines dinner and you've just ruined my dinner with your service then I would probably take care of the whole check. Overall I think this restaurants upscale setting really is what brings people there. Sure the food may be good occasionally but not so good I would come back or recommend it to anyone. As soon as we walked in, we were seated to our places. We got two appetizers. Spinach Artichoke and Margarita pizza. Both of them tasted good.It also came with a choice of our salad, and I chose Cesar salad. The server was really friendly and took extra care of us. I got the Prime Rib. It was so good that you didn't even need a knife to cut it.It was that good. I couldn't finish the entire meal, and I was offered a box to take it home with me. We were also offered all of their desserts. The carrot cake was so good. I would definitely go back atleast for the carrot cake. My wife and I went to J. Alexander's for lunch. She had a Margherita pizza and I had steak tacos. She was modestly satisfied with her pizza. She said nothing to write home about. The tacos that I had were really flavorful but I was disappointed that they just served up a raw corn tortilla. We call that massa. Uncooked has no flavor and no texture. I'm from New Mexico where all corn tortillas are lightly fried. Frying the tortilla brings out all the flavor. I just scraped out the taco and ate it as a salad. Not worth $18. The other annoying thing were the employees including the manager who sat around in nearby booths talking about work. Employees should read the room and take their business to the back. I never saw the manager when he didn't have something in his mouth. Not a good look. The check is sure to point out that 18% is the minimum tip expected going up to 24%. Now with no taxes on tips. I'm going back to 15% for excellent service. The restaurant can pay their employees. Generally were weren't impressed and won't go back. read more

The staff is extremely nice and very helpful when it came to any questions we had or with us just taking our time looking over the menu, The lemon martini is AMAZING and their steaks are cooked to perfection.. and their Mac and cheese is to die for!
