IX Art Park is a great place to hang out, especially on sunny days or when they're having events. The host many mini festivals and the farmers market every Saturday. I love coming to the market and meeting all the vendors! This is what introduced my friends and I to the area and brings a ton of publicity to IX. I particularly love the vendors they choose at the market and the activities (like free Tai Chi classes)! The Sun Soleil Farms vendors have wonderful honey and everything tastes like real lavender! Critter butts is a funny company with unique stuff. The jam and tea company is lovely too (profaniTeas and Jam by Daniel).

This place is amazing and there is a bar at the end of the exhibit . The bartender was so friendly, the drinks were amazing. This is a hidden gem. They want you to touch the exhibits. There's a ton of hidden gems all over. This place is amazing and so unique.

A fun and versatile space for all sorts of things: craft fairs farmers' markets beer fests live music etc It's nice that right next door you have the row of businesses starting with brazos tacos, and on the other side now there is Three Notch'd brewery, so if you're at IX for a market or festival, there is other food and drinks and things to see nearby. Plus its a short walk from the downtown mall and there is plenty of parking available, so it's always a convenient stop.

Such a cool experience and i love that theres a bar at the end. Lots of little hidden gems. If you visit on a Saturday, come early so that you can go to the farmers market- they close at 12.

What a cool little park! Took a random trip to Charlottesville and this art park popped up on the google search results. I did expect the park to be large and a bit more formal but it was everything but. We almost didn't even recognize it until we just happened to have tacos next door and this gem was nestled footsteps away. It's a great place for folks to be expressive, take endless pics (try the jumping in mid air photo), play with the kids toys and simply enjoy the outdoors. There's some bits of seating areas where you can just kick back and enjoy a picnic if you wanted to. The "before I die" mural tugs at your heart strings because while some are light hearted and silly, some folks write the most intimate messages. The "LOVE" cut out was also cute to pose by and was a large reminder that love endures all things and love never ends. What also really intrigued me is there was a barrel shaped sauna on the premise, though it was locked. Boo boo. Would have been super nice to get to try it out! If you happened to be in Cville, check it all out! I bet the artistry changes from season to season. It's a beautiful way to admire what our fellow community has to show us.

Kinda hidden behind the main roads, this art park is such a cool vibe! Having a brewery within the park, as well as a nice taco place adds bonus points. I came here with my dad and we both added it to places we have to check out again. Such a cool stop!

We came for a "through the looking glass" interactive art exhibit (tickets $15). The art park space is a nice place to sit and hangout, as there's murals on the walls and outdoor seating. It was nice knowing that the artists were local and that they were taking extreme precautions to prevent the spread of COVID amongst patrons (masks and required, max 10 people per showing, an hour in between each showing to clean). Overall though the art exhibit was overpriced considering the exhibit was only a single room and I didn't see too many ways to interact with the art.

It's hard to pin down exactly "what" this place is, and easiest to say "where". Essentially it's a Cville dreamer's haven for those who are creative at heart, or simply those who love sharing and supporting those creative hearts. It was in the early months of Spring 2015 that I stumbled upon this lovely little Narnia-esque public space. The snow was still hard packed as far as the eye could see and the first glimpse I had was of what seemed to be a large natural igloo crafted with tree branches. With further inspection I quickly saw that this dome was one of many unique works in the IX Art park that were accessible and easy to interact with. To my joy, I found that you could walk right up to the piece and look in! My favorite to date would be the book themed work that allows viewers to interact with the piece by taking and contributing their own literary pieces. I appreciate how much these pieces encapsulate the community feel of the city! Standing in the parking lot of the old Frank IX and Sons factory parking lot, you'll find this hidden sculpture garden surrounded by bold lively graffiti and local art. The IX Art Park is located behind or in front of the old Frank IX and Sons factory depending on which direction you're coming from. If you're careful, you can even see it from Monticello Ave. While it's technical name uses the word "park" it is a happy host of many different things. Throughout the year this public space is home to many local activities, events, and festivals. More recently, FleaVille has taken root on Saturday mornings to bring you local crafts, food, and artisanal items. Additionally, in the Fall, Tom Tom Founders Fest is bringing their annual Fall Block Party. However, there are live performances throughout so be sure to check often! I highly recommend stopping in if you're in the city and looking to indulge in a unique experience right near the Downtown mall.

The IX Art Park is a nice venue for a variety of events. Having been here only a few times, I have been able to witness some of the very interesting events held here including the Dog Festival which was an a great way to bring members of the community together to share their love for their furry friends. The artwork itself in the park is rather interesting and definitely gives off a modern vibe as part of Charlottesville's area for all ages of people to get together. I would say it is a pretty clean area with plenty of parking which is always useful especially for crowded events. Hopefully I can make it back to the IX Art Park sometime for another event sometime soon or just to appreciate some of the artwork it has to offer. 8/10 would recommend

    Crozet Arts & Crafts Festival

This is our second time coming to this Arts & Crafts Festival... what a nice drive from Richmond…read more I love Crozet, it's a cool area. They have this festival twice a year, spring and fall. Last fall we had a blast here. This year, in May, was a different story... but I'll get to that later. This festival is smaller that most I've been to but I like it because you can see everything in a short time. Plenty of parking. It's not expensive to get in, $7. There are door prizes given away every 1/2 hour (last year I won a quilt!) It's designed well, food trucks in the back, lots of picnics tables and seating under a large tent, and an even bigger tents housing all the artisans booths. Nice for those hot days like today. The band was good! Three guys and a gal playing accordion. We dug it! Cool songs. Now for the not so great... you know, you don't want to compare, but sometimes it's appropriate. So last year we spent a pretty penny and left with a load of cool crafts... handmade soaps, food stuffs, plants, jewelry (earrings $10), greeting cards, art work, etc. This year we left with nothing! Why? The prices were exorbitant. We noticed that this year all the booths we bought from last year were gone. In their place were expensive booths. Now I understand that creativity has its price, but these are local folks selling their crafts and art, it's not a museum. I won't belabor the point or delineate the number of times we were in sticker shock, suffice it to say we were disappointed. We all agreed to come back one more in the fall and see if the difference is a seasonal thing. If not, I highly doubt we will be venturing to the Crozet Festival again. I'll keep you posted and revise my review then. Empty handed and dismayed, we headed off to a nearby winery to drown our sorrows!! (Wink, wink)

Given that it was only about twenty minutes from home, we decided to give it a try. We reviewed their website, and purchased our tickets on line -- $18 for me (adult) and $12 for my husband (Senior, 65+). We arrived around 10:15 am to a long line of cars at the entrance, but didn't have any problems with parking. At the entrance, there was an ID check for participants who wanted to purchase beer, wine, or mead inside (wristband given), and a second faster line for the actual entrance. We were given a schedule that highlighted the day's shows and activities. (This was also posted online though only the 2024 list of restaurants was posted). As the day evolved, we walked around the tented grounds a number of times, watched a number of performers, browsed some of the tented shops, watched a cooking demonstration, got a beer and a mead at one of the concessioners, and grabbed a quick lunch. (Note that most are cash only; there's an ATM on site). There was also a unique assortment of pay-for activities, such as skill games (archery, axe throwing, knife throwing), hair braiding, and fortune tellers. What we enjoyed most, however, was admiring the many costumed performers and attendees. Many of the costumes were quite elaborate though many were probably not authentic to Tudor England. We stayed for about three hours, leaving when it started to get quite warm. Overall, we enjoyed the faire, but probably not enough to go on an annual basis. The main issue was that it got crowded, and it was difficult for me (a shorter person) to see some of the demonstrations that I was more interested in -- such as the sword fighting or the queen's joust. Also, the lines were quite long for food and drinks, and insufficient tables to enjoy them. And, despite having the schedule, we never seemed to be in the right place and time, but that's on us! Lake Anna Winery is a beautiful site, and the Faire was spread out well. There were at least two First Aid stations, and sufficient port-a-potties at multiple locations on the grounds.

Day started with an absolute jerk parking cars in a lot so hilly I was not sure I was going to get my car out if it rained. That set the tone for the day. Basically, the people who were willingly volunteering their time (i.e. the Queen and her court) were amazing. Some of the best costumes I've ever seen and a real effort at historical accuracy while still being entertaining. Anyone who was actually being paid for their time less so and parking lot jerk was not my only negative interaction. Food was mediocre at best and in the case of the warm chocolate covered cheesecake (gross) possibly not safe. Venue was PACKED, lacking in any sort of charm as almost all "structures" were tents and the joust area was a sad little paddock, and vendors were aggressive. After buying two tiny bags of tea for $30 I can only assume that was to recoup their costs...but for what I'm not sure. Apparently in previous years they allowed other local vendors of mead but stopped that this year because of concerns of overserving. Um what? This is the only Renn Faire I've ever been to where people were single fisting out of actual whole wine bottles as they walked around. Apparently it's fine as long as the bottles are from the host winery? Right. I bought tickets for Saturday and Sunday and didn't even bother to go back Sunday. It's a real shame as the volunteers clearly put in a lot of effort to make this a good experience and it's ruined by the poor quality of the venue and its workers.

I like that there were big slides, there was a cute obstacle course and mini maze, and some other random things like tug of war and tetherball. For the age ranges of my kids (2-8), it felt meh compared to some other places I've been more in the Hampton roads area. We don't do the large corn mazes l due too the kids ages, they just get bored, so my suggestion would be to have a separate cost for corn maze. For reference, wood ridge farm brewery has a sand-filled playground, corn maze and a petting zoo for a bit cheaper... they do have a train, hay ride, and bounce house, but it all costs extra. I guess you can't have it all.

But now that we've been I think that the amount and variety of activities justifies the price. It's also nice that everything inside is included in the admission fee. My three kids had a blast exploring all of the grounds with various cute playground structures, swings, and slides. Several gardens, a tug of war station, a zip line, a small petting/feeding area, bunnies to watch, giant jenga and connect four - all generously spaced out with plenty of shaded areas and seating for parents and grandparents to relax. The corn maze is large but not TOO large. We took a photo of the maze map and were able to make our way out in 15 minutes (we took our stroller in without a problem). The tractor ride up to the pumpkin patch was a lot of fun for the kids and the views are very pretty. They did a great job of sanitizing in between rides as well. You can pick your pumpkins from the fields or from the store - both options are $0.50/lb). One thing I wouldn't recommend is their food. While very reasonably priced ($3.50 for hamburgers, $2 for hot dogs, and $2 for fries) the line was excessively long, the food took forever to arrive, and also wasn't very good. (Have you ever had over-fried funnel cake? So sad.) Next time we'll pack our own lunch. *just a note: this year due to COVID19 there are no pig races and no train rides

These are all good names for this Nativity of Our Lord Carpatho-Russian Orthodox church fundraiser. In a conversation with one member I learned that this is one of those orthodox churches that do not have the National denomination (Bulgarian Orthodox, Russian Orthodox, Greek Orthodox, etc...) as it caters not just to the first generation of immigrants but more to all generations and all people with the Orthodox fate, with no consideration of the national borders. I learned that they have one mass in English and Our Father prayer is recited in 7 world languages. The menu of the festival reflects the church diversity but caused a dilemma of many comers as far as what to eat because it is a long way from Ethiopia to Russia on the food road. People took longer time to figure out if they would rather have Ethiopian, Greek, Slavic, Romanian, Mexican or American food but once in line you move quickly with the food vendors winking and lifting their trays to entice you to get their food. Pierogi were very good, baked well; hard outside and soft inside so combination of dough, potato and cheese was properly melting in the mouth. While I was eating delicious plums with crème, my tongue quickly detected a harder object within the plum. I wondered why plums were not pitted like the most things in US are and to my pleasant surprise the object in question was a walnut half. Once I knew what I am eating - it all came together very nicely. Letdown was that the deserts did not offered any layered moist cake or crepes - which always make me anticipate any Slavic or Western Europe festival. Another letdown was that I could not have a Greek or Russian beer. There was just one Greek wine type but on a hot day a beer goes better with the lunch. The venue was perfect and enthusiasm of the host was energizing. I was happy to support in some way their church. The visit can be combined with a walk in the old town Manassas.
