My wife and I were looking for a place to eat and every restaurant on the water was booked up and our kids were starting to get grumpy. So we decided to stop into Ivar's for a quick bite. There my wife couldn't decide what she wanted if she wanted fish and chips or salmon and chips and walked off. The cashier realized my wife couldn't make a decision and ended up giving us both. They brought the food out to our table and just went the extra mile to giving 5 star service. I think this was better service than we get when eating on the water. When I grew up in Seattle, this was one of the best chains to go to for a quick and easy meal of fish and chips, or at times clam strips and chips. This time, and I have heard from others, it was the worst. The clam strips were OVER fried, not much taste, and the fries were piled on underneath the clams without any crispiness whatsoever. My husbands Oysters and Chips were simply distasteful as well. It's a shame that this location of Ivar's has lost their touch. All in all, it would make me more than reluctant to try another one. I ordered the full boat and took the food to eat by the beach. I discovered no utensils, no napkins, no ketchup, and no tartar sauce. The fish is about the size of my finger, about 1/3 to 1/4 the size of other Ivar's. I took a photo to prove it. The quantity of fries was smaller than McDonalds regular size fries. I ordered food from other Ivar's on a regular basis and Ivar's-Edmonds is way below par for food, service and value. read more

I was born and raised right around the corner from this Ivars so its been the one I go to for years and years. When I moved to Alaska and would visit home, this is where we would stop on the way home from the airport and on the way to the airport so I can could get my 'Ivars fix' until the next time I visited. My last trip to Ivars was nothing short of AMAZING! There were 3 people working, 1 at the register, 1 behind the window cooking and the other serving and servicing. What sets this trip apart from the rest is the fact I have never seen as many people in there as I did this trip. I believe his name was Michael, he was doing the servicing and serving, he was awesome. He was gathering orders, finding the people the order belong to, getting extra requested items for customers and his tone and smile never left. I felt like i was more at a dinner party then a restaurant. He came around when he had a minute or 2 lull in his duties and handed out wet naps and andes mints to all the eating customers. As someone who works in customer service, he stood out in good ways and its not every day you see it. If Michael isnt in a management position, he should be! Not only was he doing all of this but he was also helping the girl at the registers as it seemed to be her first few days. read more

I'm a fan of their pollock! It's sweeter and more flavorful than just plain old cod. Their tartar sauce is yummy and I really liked their selection of various vinegars, besides malt vinegar. The white chowder is pretty good. And the Cajun bay shrimp were pretty tasty. I'll be back next time I get a hankering for fried fish! read more

Oh boy! The clam chowder was great!!! The fish and chips basket was also very good, perfectly fried but not drenched in grease, but a little small considering the price. We came here on Sept 14th, 2019 and we couldn't believe how bad it was. They need more help and we couldn't believe the service. They had one person taking orders and trying to take the food to the tables too. Meanwhile they had a few people working hard in the kitchen and the line kept getting longer. Everyone kept looking at each wondering if we would ever be helped. The lady in front of me said she would walk right out the door if it wasn't for her friend having placed her order already. We ended up leaving after standing in line for a good 15 minutes. We ended up going to Spud's Fish and Chip down the street. It may have cost a bit more but we actually ate. Come on Ivar's you need to hire more help and get a manager on site. read more

Ivars generally serves excellent food. However, the service at this location is SLOW, slow, slow! I came here two weeks ago and had to wait 15 minutes just to order. Tonight I was able to order promptly, but have now waited over 15 minutes because the cook didn't hear my order. The young man behind the counter made it very clear that my distress was my problem. Everything you expect from the Ivar's chain. Consistently high quality food and an especially excellent staff. Certainly one of my main fallback choices when I am after fast seafood. Again, kudos to the staff for the fine and friendly job they do here. Don't forget that you have the option to select the Cajun coating if you wish. Many people miss that. read more

The WORST restaurant ever. I have been waiting here for 45 minutes for a to go order!! No joke. Everyone is the entire restaurant is pissed. These people have NO IDEA what they're doing!!! The airport Ivar's is half the size and serves twice as many people in a quarter of the time. And my baby is in the car crying his eyes out because we've been waiting so long. THANKS IVARS!!! Not sure I understand the high reviews. This ivars looks like a fast food place but we waited 20 minutes for our food. The fish and chips had soggy breading and soggy fries. The clam chowder had none of that chunky clam goodness and tasted like it came from a bag. The tables inside were sticky and the carpet was dirty. This is not like the ivars at the mukilteo ferry which tastes fresh and like a Pacific Northwest classic. read more

I ate here on a whim. I'm glad I did. I had the oysters and salmon chowder. The chowder was salty (!) but good, the oysters were above average. The woman behind the counter was amazing and cheerful and helpful. My only complaint is that the portion was small and expensive! Definitely full restaurant pricing here in a fact-food atmosphere. Ivars is a much loved local fish & chips/chowder house gem of Western Washington. This particular location is conveniently located near the ferry terminal and a great place for a quick bite. The best thing about this Ivars is the service. One employee in particular - a dark-haired woman who seemed to be mana agreement or the owner was constantly stopping over with treats for our kids, extra bowls to share the infamous chowder, and just to make sure all was well. read more

OK, it's a chain but it is a local chain and doesn't seem like a chain. I had not eaten in seven hours. I needed to eat quickly. Additionally, my eyes were feeling dry and irritated. I needed salmon and soon. It usually lubricates my eyes in less than an hour. My wife and I went to Ivar's. We each got a grilled salmon dinner for about $10 each before taxes. The salmon was actually good. It came with a wild rice that was tasty. They also came with annoyingly sweet cornbread and almost as sweet slaw that were a waste. We opted for sides of wild salmon chowder that were surprisingly good. If this were a regular restaurant, I might give it 3 stars for the slaw and cornbread, but Ivar's you can get a 10 buck grilled salmon plate before me in ten minutes, 4 stars it is! Sometimes you have to eat fast but thank goodness we live in a place where fast food can be grilled salmon. read more

Delicious fish and the onion rings are really yummy. Love the clam chowder and the tartar sauce. It's always good. The one thing I have a problem with is the cleanliness of the tables. I'm not a germophobe by any means but the tables never seem to get a really good cleaning. They always seem sticky and the table we had tonight had spots where I could probably scrape my fingernail across and come up with a wad of crud. It's like they always just wipe them down with a dirty, wet cloth. No soap. No cleaner. I didn't want to touch the table then pick up my food. Food is piping hot, generous servings, fast, friendly staff, punch card for free meal when full. Hard to pass up the 3 piece fish and chips, but can substitute the Caesar salad for the chips at no extra charge if feeling guilty. The grilled salmon Caesar is also a good choice for the health conscious. I went here based on the 4 star reviews on Yelp. I paid $20 for a 3 piece halibut and chips and 2 (very tiny) pieces of cod ($2.50 each). The fish was dry and the batter was thinly applied and tough.
