One year since upper and lower eyelid surgery, ptosis repair, fat repositioning, endo brow lift, and chemical peel. First, my husband and I absolutely agree that Dr. Vrcek is kind and very accessible both prior to and after surgery. While I believe he tries to have his patient's best interest in mind, he failed me. Upon reviewing my insurance claims, we discovered Dr. Vrcek also performed ectropion repair, We had no idea he intended to do this procedure, and it wasn't until after the fact that we learned it had been included. I had never suffered with hanging lower eyelids or any issues that would necessitate such repairs. When I expressed concerns about eye shape, I assured me that he wasn't doing anything to alter it. When I followed up about the ectropion repair, he said that tightening the lower tendon during ptosis repair is a procedure he often performs. When consulting with another oculoplastic surgeon, who had examined me a few months prior, he stated ectropion repair is not a part of standard ptosis surgery and he had not noted my having it during his exam. He also performed festoon elevation. We had a very brief consultation about minor malar bags, which I mentioned could be addressed with my upcoming facelift and neck lift in a few months if that surgeon felt it was needed. Discovering this was done, again without my consent, was deeply upsetting. I sent Dr. Vrcek photos showing how the natural hooding I grew up with was now gone as swelling resolved. The significant amount of skin and fat removed was far more than expected. When I initially consulted with him, I was quoted $2,000 for upper eyelid surgery, with the understanding that it would be a simple skin removal procedure. He initially stated that insurance would not cover both skin removal and ptosis repair, and that we would save a lot or money having the ptosis repair covered. Later, he revised his statement, saying that insurance may not cover both procedures In response to the photos I sent, he replied, "If a patient were to show me a picture of themselves in their 20s, but they're in their 40s or later, I would tell them it's not possible for me to make it look like they did in their 20s." I simply wanted to look like me but refreshed. I didn't expect perfection but did expect to still look like myself, with the integrity of my natural features intact. He also mentioned that it's challenging for surgeons when patients send photos from their younger selves and then compare them to photos taken during the healing process, which are often less flattering due to lighting and swelling. He said, "I don't think any surgeon could successfully pass this test." The photos I sent were not intended to compare images of my youth to my current post-surgery appearance but to show how my eyelids had changed. I had a natural hooding and a small lid platform before the surgery, and now I no longer do. The pain in and around my eyes remains a constant challenge. I am also experiencing trigeminal neuralgia, causing sharp, radiating pain from my scalp down across my eyebrow and upper cheek. I'm still dealing with dry eyes, persistent tightness in my forehead, and discomfort that intensifies during movement. Dr. Vrcek didn't examine me in person before surgery, despite the visit note submitted to insurance stating otherwise. On the morning of my surgery, I was very nervous and made a mistake. When being checked in, I was asked to confirm the procedures I was having, and I listed them exactly as known to me. When reviewing the paperwork, bilateral ectropion repair and bilateral festoon elevation had been added, while fat repositioning and the chemical peel were omitted. I want to make it clear there are patients who are happy with Dr. Vrcek's work, but my experience has been very different. I also want to emphasize that I never expected perfection. STAY AWAY FROM DR. VRCEK Upon visiting his office, I was underwhelmed right off the bat by the lack of professionalism in the attire of his staff and the way my check-in was handled. There appeared to be no assistant of any kind and I was brought into the consult room by the front desk assistant and was told to sit down, the Dr. would be in shortly. The consult was so brief, less than 10 minutes and in this time, Dr. Vrcek almost instantly told me I needed a lower blepharoplasty, skin pinch, and under eye chemical peel and proceeded to show me a book of other patients he performed the same or similar procedures on (all who looked nothing like my concerns in their before photos), this came off as much more of a sales pitch than a consult. He conveyed the risks to me as bleeding, scarring, the possibility of another procedure, and 'other'; I reasonably assumed he provided me with the worst case scenario and the 'other' were less serious in nature and did not need direct conveyance. I was quickly whisked out the door and could hear him entering the room of another patient as soon as he left me at the exit door. While I felt uneasy about this process and being presented with a list of procedures and sent on my way in less than 10 minutes, I tried to put my concerns aside and remind myself of his reviews and I proceeded to book his recommended procedures based on the information I was given. As the days went on, I kept thinking about the strange interaction and opted to do my own research on the procedure and found that, while minimal, there is a risk of permanent vision loss. I am not ok with this risk and I would have never booked this procedure had he been forthcoming about this. To not specifically verbalize this risk and discuss it was me was incredibly unethical and deceitful and was done purposefully, with ill-intent; he completely avoided disclosure of this risk and made it sound like the worst that could happen was scarring, bleeding, another procedure. Needless to say, he has opted to keep my $1,000 deposit for a booking that would have NEVER happened had he been honest. He is a greedy, money-hungry salesman who cares nothing about his patients or their well-being, but instead, who he can get to sign up for the next procedure. read more

I had upper and lower eyelid surgery by Dr. Vrck some time ago. I am not completely satisfied with my outcome. The suctures at the outer crease were not done well leaving 3-4 wrinkles on each side. Dr. Vrck suggested Botox. One upper eyelid seamed to be missing one or two suctures which left an open gap in the seam. My outcome was OK but I decided to get an estimate for a full facelift. The estimates are very expensive and the fact I got an eye lift does not reduce the cost of a full facelift. Because I am an older woman I believe it's possible a resident or intern may have done my surgery. read more

Dr Vrcek is a really good surgeon. I was referred to him by my dermatologist who removed a squamous from near my left eye. I was really worried about it since my best vision is in my left eye. Dr Vrcek did an amazing job closing up the large hole on my face between my eye and my nose, all the time making sure I retained my eye function and that it healed correctly. It is still early to tell but I have almost no visible scarring. He went above and beyond for me in every regard. I cannot thank him enough or recommend him more! I would not recommend Dr. Vrcek. I went to him with a chief concern of dark, hollow circles under my eyes and some lines in my cheeks. He convinced me that I needed a lower blepharoplasty with under eye chemical peel and festoon elevation. He showed me after pictures of other patients, whose cases were much more extreme then mine, and said these were the results that I should expect. Immediately after surgery I knew something was seriously wrong. One eye was much smaller than the other. I went to his office the very next day to express my concern and he assured me everything would heal symmetrically. Fast forward 6 months, I have one eye that is significantly smaller than the other. I also still have dark, hollow circles under my eyes and lines in my cheeks. Dr. Vrcek has been extremely dismissive of any of my concerns. His recommendations are to have Botox done on the smaller eye every 3 months and to use hydroquinone under my eyes to help with the discoloration. I feel like more harm than good was done during my procedure. This was a huge waste of $8000 which he refuses to refund. Now I have to invest even more money in Botox and hydroquinone to attempt to camouflage his botch job. He doesn't use a flash on his before photos and then uses a flash on his after photos to diminish discoloration and lines. He is not a good surgeon and not a very nice person. STAY AWAY. read more

I went to Dr.Vreck in a final attempt to fix my right upper eyelid from work previously done by a well renowned plastic surgeon. The previous surgeon left my eyes uneven, took off too much skin on one eye, and forever changed my natural eye shape. When I brought up my concerns he gaslit me and said everyone has uneven eyes so his work was fine. Thankfully Dr.Vreck was able to fix my eye and get them to match much better. We went ahead and did lowers too since I was going to be put under general anesthesia. I am 3 weeks post op and the results are amazing, I had minimal bruising and even my stare looks so much nicer and younger.
