As for the rest of us, who don't like to get down and dirty with our bikes and would prefer to spend more time riding our bikes than working on them, you might want to go to a real bike shop. Its okay for the occasional tube or bike light purchase but if you frequent the shop, you might be STRONGLY encouraged to buy a membership. I stopped visiting due to this a few years ago and I'm not the only one who would rather pay more elsewhere to avoid being harassed into a membership. If I have to pay a little more for the supplies, I'm okay with that, but I don't want to buy a membership to work on my bike if I'm never going to do so. I would rather pay a mechanic to work on my bike for me so I can spend that time doing things more important to me. Its also not a great place for high end or high quality items. They're mainly catering to the college/commuter crowd. But if you're looking for a deal! This is the place to go!

I got so lucky to find BR Bikes, who responded quickly and in less than 15 minutes I was at their place of business looking at bikes. They made the effort to help me find a good bike to fit, even if that meant getting one for me. Say hello, and consider a new bike. The shop is not in condition to open. There is junk on the floor one would have to step over starting 3 feet into the shop and going back forever. Just. Don't. Bother…read more I knew ahead of time that Bruce was known for being really abrasive. I didn't care as long as he was able to fix my bike. He mostly did... eventually. His hours are horrendous (3hrs a day) and he's not always there during the posted times (happened to me twice!). As everyone knows, he's intentionally rude. I called after not hearing anything for over a week and he rattled off some excuse and hung up on me. When I finally went in to pick up my bike he had already done extra work that we hadn't discussed and charged me for it. And the pièce de résistance...the front brake is now screwed up. He mentioned it was hard to take off and there are some tool marks on it. I honestly don't mind that, but the brake lever is SUPER loose now and I think the caliper is bent. The ironic part is he criticized the workmanship of anyone/everyone who had previously worked on the bike pretty much the whole time I was in his shop. I don't care if he's "eccentric". I was willing to overlook his attitude and the fact that his shop literally smells like a litter box, but it's just not worth it.

After doing my due diligence researching bikes and prices I went to Durst during one of their 'Sidewalk Sales.' The staff member who helped me throughout the process was incredibly knowledge and answered each and every one of my numerous questions. He didn't lose patience after I had test rode my 8th bike since arriving and did not pressure me to make a purchase. After many questions and test rides, I finally decided on a bike. While waiting to check out-it was incredibly busy-the owner chatted with me about stopping in for a free tune up after a month and gave me some tips about safety precautions, getting the bike registered, etc. It was nice that he took an interest in his customers as I wasn't the only one who spoke to during the wait. It's been about 8 months since I purchased it and I still love it and have had no issues. I've called or stopped in with questions about doing some tune ups or upgrades and the staff are more than willing to offer advice and assistance. I highly recommend Durst Cycle.

When I mentioned my earlier phone call, the owner became aggressively rude, all but calling me a liar. "I said no such thing!" All he had to do was appologize for the inconvenience, maybe adding that there may have been a miscommunication. But instead he tries to gaslight me. Not cool. Stay clear of this nasty place.
