Summary: I had a very good experience yesterday at the shop. The person (Tim) went a long way to help me out with my bike. I would definitely recommend him to any one on campus. He even gave me lot of discount and educated me about my bike and fixing it. It helped that he has just opened the shop and I was one of the first customers. He is a nice person, engages you in conversation and the attention to detail to get things right, was really good. In detail: Here is my experience, I was hopping in front of the shop with a flat tyre, without noticing it (it opened very recently). He came out and asked me to come in and see if I can fix it myself. It turns out I had to change my tube. He helped me a little and I got it done. During conversation, I wanted to know how to fix the wheel alignment. I was expecting an answer on how to do it. Instead he took out the tire, and showed me how it is done. At this point, I have decided to get front brakes installed as well (my bike had only rear brakes until now). So, I asked him to fix them. He went ahead with installation only to find that the set of brakes were not correct as the rim/tire was different from the original frame (28 inch and 700 cm). So he selected a different set of brakes and gave for the same price as earlier ones (these were more expensive). Now, these brakes fitted the bike, but only just. So, he went ahead and did modifications to the brake set by filing away some bits to fit it perfectly. In the end, I had a bike ready for the spring and summer and fit for long road trips. read more

Every time I've come in, the service has been excellent. The staff is always friendly and helpful! My first time at Neutral, I was finally buying a new bike after getting by with an old hand-me-down. They let me take several out on test rides until I found one that I loved. We went online to look at different colors when we saw the manufacturer was selling the bike for $50 less and Neutral offered to match the price! It's been a few months with the new bike and it's been nothing but wonderful to me, and Neutral has been there for me for all bike-related hiccups. A couple weeks after I bought, I realized I threw out the receipts for my bike and lock which I needed for a theft protection warrantee. I went back to Neutral and they were able to pull up my past receipts through some detective work and print them out for me. Even though I didn't have the receipts because of my own lack of responsibility, they pulled through. Then the other day, my bike had fallen while it was locked to a parking meter and the wheel began rubbing up against the front fender, making it really difficult to ride. I brought the bike in, expecting to part with at least $15. I walked in and they fixed it in 10 minutes. When I asked how much it was, they asked me to write a review and we could call it even. read more

Neutral came through for me, AGAIN! I was hit by a car while biking, and another local bike shop did an insulting job of quoting my replacement value as $25!?! But then I went to Neutral and the staff was EXTREMELY helpful in actually doing the work to assess the value (doing online research for parts, etc.) and I ended up with the far more accurate quote of $650. They did a stellar job, my claim is processed, and now I will 100% go back to them to get my replacement bike. Along the way, the staff was friendly and informative (without being insulting- some bike places treat women like they don't know anything) and empathized with the fact that I'd lost the bike I'd been using for the last 15 years, where the other shop was almost as callous as the insurance adjuster. I have been a customer with them for over a year now. Neutral Cycle is professional and timely with all the work that they do. As I haven't been to other bike shops, I am not really qualified to comment on their pricing, but I last paid $83 for a full bike tune up plus chain replacement. From my copy of the receipt it looks like they inspect and/or adjust almost every part of the bike under a standard tune up. The difference in ride quality is night and day. I am very pleased with my experience with Neutral Cycle and will continue to do business with them for my remaining years here at UIUC. read more

The best in the area! Super fast, and perfect amount of friendly. Never make you feel bad about the bike you have, they just want to get you on the road. Been several times from a tune-up to some major repairs and they've always gotten the job done. They always give you a quote before the work (even if you say you trust them) and then walk you through everything they are going to do. They'll give you options and help you decide. Been upsold but I never feel like I'm being taken, just taken care of. Can't say enough good stuff. These are the guys you need if you bike. read more

I recently had to move out of my apartment and unfortunately, everything fit but my bike! I brought it over to Neutral Cycle because it was conveniently located and had heard good things about it. When I brought it in, Brian and Wing were more than happy to help me remove the wheels from my bike and disassemble parts of it. They even helped me load it into my car and adjust things accordingly. Great people. Always willing to help with little things for free and did a great job when I went in for a fine-up. Everyone is always friendly and seems knowledgeable. The store itself is pretty small but as someone who uses a bike as transportation, I've never had an issue with missing something I want/need. I bought my bike from their other location last year (also an amazing place). I brought it in recently for some maintenance, and they were quick, professional, and honest. After I picked it up, a tube on my bike broke, and when I brought it back that same day, they fixed it for no extra charge. They are an awesome shop! Friendly, honest, and efficient. I had a flat tire several days ago and I went to a shop called Durst Cycle. They gave me a quote of $35, ended up charging me $65. Great first experience! I went in to get new pedals and was helped by Ruchen, who expertly recommended and installed some nice ones. He also did his best to assist me in finding a new helmet, but I had to confront the unfortunate reality that my head was too big for any of them. Oh well. Very good service. The man there was really helpful and nice, and my bike has never ridden better. I needed to get a new tire for my front wheel and he provided me with some options and I also got a tune-up. The art on the walls was also really cool.
