Nothing has changed I see. Way back in 2007 I went here cuz they took Cornell's Dental plan…read more Dr. Kapur failed to properly remove the decay before applying the fillings. Just like so many others have experienced. I got fed up & demanded my deposit back for a root canal. They lied, hesitated, told me "refund is on it's way" & other stall tactics. Meanwhile I had to have another dentist repair her shitty work, costing me near $1500 out-of-pocket. After 7 months, they still refused to return my deposit...she could not fill 2 cavities properly, no way I was going to trust her with a root canal. Finally, I walked into the office & through "vivid imagery" explained to them it would be in our mutual best interest to return my deposit within 72 hrs. I had waited long enough & suffered due to her incompetency, not to mention the financial loss. Within one day I got a call from them informing me, "I could pick up a check for my full deposit or have them mail it to me". All I will say is, "Folk value their health over $". That was nearly 20 yrs ago! Yet I read she has not became any better of a dentist or person. So, please consider this -- they were bad then & still are just as bad. But if u think I'm lying, go & find out. Why am I doing a review now...cuz I'm looking for a new dentist (my beloved dentist after the horrible Dr. Kapur, sadly passed away recently) & while reading reviews for prospective new dentists I came across the reviews for Dr. Kapur & was amazed she is still destroying people's teeth nearly 20 years after she botched 2 simple fillings & caused me to wait 7 months for a menial $400 root canal deposit.

Hopefully I can get a call in on a earlier date

However, the number of times the billing has been screwed up or claims were not submitted is hard to count. The receptionist will talk up people for extended periods about things unrelated to business while a line of people wait to pay or check in. Once, she cancelled my daughters appointment instead of mine after I left detailed instructions on who's appointment was being cancelled. Another time, I asked her if she would be willing to submit paperwork to my insurer so they could become an in-network provider for us and she declined stating that they wouldn't make as much money that way and if they did it for us, they'd have to do it for everyone. Pretty stunning. Excellent dentists. Horrible front of house staff. I'll be leaving the practice and if I can find another good dentist my family will be switching too. What a shame.

I called to Dr. Hart's office and got an appointment scheduled for three months later (apparently long waiting times are a common in Ithaca). So make sure to book in advance. The office is located in a mini plaza looking towards Hanshaw Road. The place is very clean and welcoming. I got my teeth cleaned and the dental hygienist that did it (I think her name was Gretchen) was great. I met with the dentist, he was very insightful and tended all my concerns. They don't take my dental insurance but the administrative assistance helped me out sending the claim. Enough to said that I'll be coming back.

Im not the only person that reports unnecessary treatment. I highly recommend Gorges - very modern, professional and first x-rays are free! This place isn't a dental clinic -- it's a financial model with chairs. Ithaca, you should know better. First red flag? I asked about a chipped tooth, and instead of addressing it, the hygienist told me to "check with the front desk because they were short-staffed." (?!) That's not passing the buck -- that's trying to collect another one. The hygienist reminded me more than once about being short-staffed and made my gums sound like a crime scene. Evidently I'm the only one not getting an "A" for flossing. The dentist didn't touch a single instrument -- just had me open and close my jaw and called it an exam. Must have been using x-ray vision. On top of that, they overlooked a cavity previously noted in my chart. When I asked if the doctor would examine it, I was told -- not kidding -- "no, the doctor is done and gone." My cleaning wasn't even finished, and guess what? I still got the bill. And here's the kicker -- an elderly woman named Jean, clearly hard of hearing, almost had her appointment canceled because she didn't respond fast enough in the waiting room. I had to step in so she wouldn't be turned away. That told me everything: this office runs on throughput and billing, not care. I had a wonderful relationship with my prior practice in Austin for 10 years and never once experienced anything this careless. I cannot be the only one noticing this. Ithaca deserves a whole lot better.

The staff were genuine, attentive, and professional -- you can feel when a clinic truly values patients, and this one does. My first visit was excellent. The care team listened, took their time, and never made me feel rushed. The atmosphere was modern, clean, and relaxed. Staff encouraged and reinforced positive habits rather than shaming anyone for what they "should" be doing -- a huge difference compared to other places. The first set of x-rays was essentially free (saving me hundreds), which stunned me. Both the dentist and hygienist were thorough, careful, and patient. This is how dentistry should feel: professional, compassionate, and centered on care -- not billing. I highly recommend Gorges Dentistry to anyone in Ithaca looking for quality dental care.

Schedule and bills were Rube Goldbergian. "It's broken" and "Yes, heh-heh, yes" were the responses, respectively, of hygienist Mattie and owner Anthony Raggi to herky-jerky "panoramic X-ray" and my comment "You want my money, don't you?"--as he appeared from the back room to interrupt my starting to ask about confusing paperwork with "Is there a problem?" A re-capped 20-year-old crown ran $1500 taken mid-term. At the close of 3 visits, a recurring "-$138" remainder not refundable was claimed as due to said feckless X-ray.

She sent me to have three teeth removed. While I was waiting for those sites to heal I lost the tip of another. I went in to have the tip repaired and she also did purely cosmetic fillings on the outside surface with the warning it might not last. She was right. It didn't. I paid over $800 for a gloss that fell out after two weeks. It's been a year now and the tip repair has fallen out, too. I had a partial plate with six teeth built for almost $2K. I can't wear it. It gives me a speech impediment. She said, "Oh, just read the newpaper outloud." There is so much plastic I can't find my alveolar ridge to form an l, n, d, or t. There is even plastic on the back surface of the upper front teeth, that I can't form an Italian l either. I'm a voice professional and must be able to perform in Italian, French, and English as well as demonstrate to my students. The only positives about the office are the delightful woman in the front office and the very healthy croton that gets morning sunshine through the window. Avoid at all costs. I was told the new patient x-ray would be free after asking, and despite repeatedly saying I didn't want it, they said it was required. I eventually agreed, only to receive a $200 bill in the mail for the very thing they insisted wouldn't cost anything. The X-ray process itself didn't inspire much confidence. The technician had to reposition the machine many different times before getting a usable image, which made the whole situation feel even less professional. When I finally saw the dentist, all I needed was my bridge re-glued - an easy, relatively inexpensive fix. Instead, I was quoted $600, which felt ridiculous for something so simple. The entire appointment dragged on for about two hours, and I left with nothing resolved except a bill I hadn't planned on and regret over handing them my social security number. Even though this visit wasn't recent, the experience was memorable for all the wrong reasons. If transparency and competent care are important to you, I would suggest looking anywhere else.

Dr. Joe pulled the tooth, recommended an orthodontist (Dr. Cacciotti, who is now retired) who he communicated with via regular coffee dates at Wegmans with throughout my dental journey. we decided to pull three more molars, then Dr. Cacciotti put my braces on, pulled my furthest molars back and gave me a dazzling smile in the end. Dr. Joe has got me through it with effortless grace and his shoes by the door (even though he does frequently ask if i'm adopted now). The thing with pulling the molars forward was apparently even written about in a dental journal! I'm a star, all because of Dr. Joe! Now, it hasn't been all sunshine and roses. i mean, it's still the dentist's office. people don't end up in the dentist office because something good has happened. i have shed tears in that parking lot as the cows stared me down. But these folks have the good taste not to bring up the time i (by now being an actual adult and having should have known better) smashed a tooth while riding my bike with my dog on a leash beside me. the dog had a great time but they eventually had to do a root canal and put a veneer on the tooth to make it the right size. This event is not ever mentioned in my presence, within guidelines of good taste! But even at my lowest, Dr. Joe's office got me though it. and once the dental emergencies that you hopefully never have more of are over, it just comes down to maintenance. after the braces and the molars and the bike, it's nice to just have an uneventful cleaning once in awhile. This office can do both! Besides my now completely average looking set of pearly whites, the testament of Dr. Joe's quality is his team. Alisha, Rachel and any of the dogs you might meet on your visit are always a joy to interact with. The cows on the lawn are the first sign you've found something special, but the cows are just the tip of the iceberg. I do wish they would reopen the waiting room post covid, but i understand wanting to keep the staff safe and adapting a business model to fit what works best. Thanks, Dr. Joe, Alisha and Rachel for keeping my smile dazzling!
