I would recommend Dr. Marc Purdy. He does well at attending to the different procedures that I had done. His assistants are great at caring for the patients also. He even called to see how I was doing after having 2 teeth extracted which met a lot. I was having a problem with bone spurs which he took care of also. All his employees are great. I can recall Maddy that cleans my teeth,Jamey,Kate and the others. They always remind the date and time of appointments. read more

This place is fantastic. I have absolutely nothing negative to say. I'm generally afraid of going to the dentist for both my wallet and nerves but they were pretty gentle on both. Unrelated to the cavity I was there for I was having a bite issue that only required a tiny adjustment and they didn't even charge me for that bit of tooth buffing. I also appreciated that they have a real office. A lot of these Ithaca dental practices are just run out of residential houses which freaks me out a little. You want the dentist that does enough business to rent a nice place, in my opinion. EDIT: Just went again and they're still excellent. If you're not going here you're wrong. read more

Dr. Purdy does a great job. He is conservative -- he doesn't recommend extra procedures for no reason but instead is cautious and careful and takes a wait-and-see approach where appropriate. He fixed dental work for me that another dental practice in the area botched and did a terrific job. He is focused, meticulous, and makes sure everything is perfect. He is extremely professional and no-nonsense. He also uses the latest technology in his practice. My only complaint is that everyone clearly agrees he is great, as he has a completely full schedule. I started going to Dr. Purdy many years ago. (Perhaps the early 2000s) Then, we moved out of the area. When we moved back to Ithaca in 2015, I knew exactly where my family would go for dentistry! We are very pleased with Dr. Purdy and his entire office. He explains the procedures very clearly and is careful to make sure that his patients are comfortable and pain-free. I'm a wimp when it comes to all aspects of dentistry, but I am always happy and comfortable when I've been to Dr. Marc's. In addition, the staff at Dr. Purdy's is excellent. We moved to Ithaca during the pandemic. At the time, we barely left the house, but dental health is important to us, so we researched dental practices and selected Dr. Purdy. We are so pleased. Their procedures and practices make us feel very safe. Fortunately, we haven't needed "work." just preventative care. The visit with the hygenist is always positive. The office uses the most modern, high-tech tools (which are really, really cool!) - and painless. Diana, my hygienist, is the most thorough, gentle, and very best hygienist I've ever visited. However, my husband has a different hygienist in Dr. Purdy's practice, and he claims HIS hygienist is the best. (Right there is reason enough for five stars, right?) Dental health is emphasized here and the hygienists take time to show you how to do home maintenance correctly and more effectively. Dr. Purdy provides a thorough and complete exam, and when the time comes that I'll need dental work, I'll trust him completely. Highly recommend! read more

Dr. Purdy is wonderful. The short of it is this: he is kind, confident, has a great bedside manner, and demonstrates a patient-centered approach to dental care. He answered all of my questions and clearly explained all necessary procedures both at my consultation and while he performed them the following week. I felt that I was given options for care with clear explanations as to the costs and benefits of each. Dr. Purdy's rates are very reasonable as well. Even as a graduate student, I do not feel burdened by the costs of my treatment plan (his office accepts Care Credit, which is very helpful). Dr Purdy even called to check in on me the evening after an extraction to make sure I was doing okay. Thank you, Dr. Purdy! Here is the long of it: having spent much of my twenties living in various foreign countries, I encountered intermittent, and sometimes suspect, dental care. My teeth do not respond easily to anesthesia, and this was not always successfully dealt with by dentists, with one going so far as to drill my tooth until he could inject anesthesia directly into the root. Rude. In addition, I have had ongoing problems with an upper molar, with various dentists replacing a filling that repeatedly fell out, leaving my tooth cracked. Due to the pain caused by my anesthesia problems, I quickly developed an aversion to going to the dentist, and I become one of *those* people: anxious about dental work, and only going when something hurt. Well, that time came last week when my problem molar broke to a point beyond repair. I called Dr. Purdy's office, and they were able to fit me in the very next morning for a consultation. A few days later, Dr. Purdy extracted the molar (good riddance), and much to my amazement, he was able to anesthetize me with no problems at all. I have some additional (minor) work to be done soon, and I have zero anxiety about it. For the first time since I was a kid, I feel confident about seeing the dentist regularly. I will certainly keep going back to Dr. Purdy for as long as I am in Ithaca, and I would highly recommend him to anyone else looking for a good, honest, trustworthy dentist. read more

I never thought I would be writing a positive review for a dentist, but here I am.The staff is professional, friendly, and good at their jobs. I hadn't been to a dentist in a while, but there was no guilt tripping. And I learned things about dental care I didn't know before. I will recommend Dr. Purdy's practice to friends. For a simple 3 minute consultation he charged an outrageous $70 that his secretary demanded be paid in full right there and then. Cash on the line. Both her and a nearby assistant was watching the door. Got the feeling I was being held hostage and paid to be released. I went in to ask about a simple bonding for my front tooth, a divit near the gum line, and he diagnosed it as a reabsorption problem and gave me a horror story that my gum was eating away at my tooth and eventually I'd need a root canal and cap. This was insane!! What dental school did he go to? Maybe a correspondence course? I got it checked out by two other dentists and he was wrong, totally wrong!! Purdy was aggressive with me and acted like he had better things to do. I wasn't valued as a patient at all! He advised me to go to a periodontist that he worked closely with, that also charged 4 times the amount for a so-called consultation. It was a scam. I ignored him and went to a dentist that did the simple bonding. There was no reabsorption issue at all! A nutcase! read more

Unbelievably unethical billing! In 2017, due to a root problem, one of my lateral incisors (a front tooth) suddenly broke off at the gum line. Before I could deal with the deeper issues (through implant surgery), I needed a temporary cosmetic fix to fill in the gap. So Dr. Purdy literally glued my detached tooth back on and CHARGED ME FOR A CROWN!!! Since I recently had my first real crown put in (at a different office), I now realize how much goes into the process. But Purdy spent very little time gluing back MY OWN TOOTH and then charged me over $400 - by billing me for a temporary crown. (Just so there is no confusion: that's over $400 ON TOP OF other charges for services involved in the visit.) Even at that time I knew this wasn't right and complained, underscoring the fact that I was paying virtually all of the cost out of pocket. The office manager stepped in; I found her to be incredibly rude, and, ultimately, I felt bullied into compliance! read more

After asking my helpful friend and receptionist for the Education Dept, she recommended me to come here and I had no regrets! Even for a cash patient, they are not here to rip one off. I haven't really interacted much with Dr Purdy, though from my brief interactions it seemed that he was quite interested in selling me procedures. However, the reason I want to write this review is that my cleanings, done by Candace Daddona R.D.H. were the best, most thorough and comfortable I've ever had. If you need a really good hygienist she's the one! She found the pockets of plague hidden underneath the gum line that my previous dentists had missed and cleaned them without any discomfort! If you need lots of work I don't have any advice for you, but if you're looking for regular maintenance come here. read more

Dr. Purdy is great!Since I didn't get regular dental checkups (had very bad dental experience before and afraid to go to dentist) and there were a lot of problems with my teeth, and I decided to get them done before getting braces. So I went to Dr. Purdy and did cleaning, several fillings and one root canal in his office, and I am quiet satisfied with what he has done for me so far. The staff here was extremely friendly and helpful, especially Anna, who helped me so much about scheduling appointments and explaining the whole treatment clearly. This is a great dentist. The staff is friendly and truly wants what is best for the patient. Though they are not in network with any insurance companies, I would pay the extra money to go see them as opposed to going to a bad in-network dentist. Good dentists are hard to find in Ithaca, but Dr. Purdy's office is a good one. I recently began experiencing incredible pain in my bottom tooth. Though Dr. Purdy was out of network, I had heard good things about him (and poor things about some of the other dentists), so scheduled an appointment. The dentist assistant Anna was so incredibly helpful. She was able to get me in for an X-ray on Friday (the day I called) when the dentist wasn't there, and she emailed him the x-ray and pictures to figure out what was wrong. The doctor wasn't sure what was going on, but rather than jumping the gun and doing a root canal on the tooth that was hurting, he tried a few other things (ibuprofen to reduce swelling, a panoramic x-ray, another test to determine the pain). He was also happy to refer me to another dentist if I could get an earlier appointment or wanted a second opinion. After they referred me to an oral surgeon, the dentist assistant followed up with me to check on my pain. She also offered to provide me with quotes ahead of time (since I'm out of network) so I could call my insurance to see what the fees would be. read more

The dental care is what one would expect, I suppose. My main gripe is the office policies. They require two days notice of cancellation yet don't allow phone messages and are closed on Fridays. I would love to cancel 5 days in advance, but I can't! read more

They are just simply after your money; can easily charge you outrageous amounts for simple procedures with no warning. Definitely the worst dentist. read more
