Our first time there was a very good experience. We made reservations online: super easy and accessible. Arrived on-time. I ordered the Chicken Piccata and it didn't disappoint. This is the nice Italian restaurant Lexington has been waiting for! I encourage everyone to go! Our experience started off with a text from them reminding us we had reservations and a tip to follow the large wine glass, which if we didn't have that we wouldn't have found it. We were greeted as soon as we got to the door and seated immediately. We started off with four appetizers and a round of cocktails. Arcanini were amazing, crispy on the outside and perfectly cooked and seasoned risotto on the inside. The meatballs were a good mixed and full of flavor and the charcuterie board was amazing with some different flavor profiles I wouldn't have ever expected. The show stopper though was the focaccia ooh it was so good, slightly salty, warm center crunchy outside. I couldn't decide so I split the carbonara and the ossa bucca! Both were equally as good and some how a really good compliment of each other. We had to get another round of focaccia so we could soak up all the sauces! Underwhelming. It was our second time to ItalX. The calamari was quite good, but this time there seemed to be equal parts calamari and banana peppers and the calamari seemed to be in much smaller pieces. The caprese salad was a highlight--the burrata was rich and delicious; loved the earthy cherry tomatoes. My pasta and my partner's entree special were real disappointments. For my pasta, the menu listed bucatini, but I received gargenelli instead, as did my friend who ordered the same thing. I purposefully didn't order the pasta dish that specified gargenelli because I'm not a fan of that type of noodle. If our waiter or a manager or anyone had mentioned they were out of bucatini, I would have requested spaghetti. It was a special occasion with friends, and I didn't want to make a big deal of it, but this ingredient substitution is a pretty significant one given it's an Italian restaurant. I also found the flavor to be lackluster. I fished out the several shrimp pieces and sun-dried tomatoes and left a bowl full of pesto pasta. My partner ordered the osso buco. It was dry, chewy, and not as flavorful as he expected it to be. The bed of risotto that it came on was also quite bland and the handful of arugula on top of the veal shank seemed odd--as if compensating for some deficits in what should've been the star of the plate. All in all, we had a great time with our friends, good laughs, and quality service. Next time we'll just have our friends over for a nice homemade Italian supper and not drop $200+ with gratuity for a mediocre meal for two. read more

I have enjoyed dining at the bar a handful of times. This classy, modern Italian restaurant is situated in the Marriott complex downtown. The decor is swanky and contemporary, with a warm touch of velvet furniture and cool tiles. The bar isn't extremely spacious, but the friendly bartender, Joey, makes sure all patrons are well assisted. They have wonderful homemade pastas here, I particularly enjoy the cacio e pepe! This dish is easy to make, but hard to master. I think Italx's version is divine. Thick, homemade oversized bucatini noodles with a rich cheesy glaze and potent cracked black pepper are simple ingredients but the classic flavors speak for themselves. I also enjoyed the caprese salad. It was maybe a little post prime tomato time here in Kentucky; but classic basil and mozzarella still insured a good salad course. The farinata accompanied this extremely well! It was my first time trying farinata- a chick pea based Italian crepe with parmesan and onion flavors. I enjoyed pairing this with the caprese for a bread like addition. I wish I visited Kentucky more often, I could see this restaurant being a staple on my list of local hot spots! Even so, I thoroughly enjoy my times here and can't wait to come back and try the butternut squash gnocchi dish! read more

This was a busy night and the restaurant can get crowded and loud, especially if they keep the big outside doors open due to the main road the restaurant sits on. Service was professional. We started off by ordering the Arancini to share, which came with marinara and a basil-pistachio pesto. It was delicious and a perfect start for the two of us to share! For my entree, I ordered the Cacio E Pepe, and added grilled chicken. I loved the fresh parmesan on top, and the dish as a whole was very flavourful. By itself, I didn't really love the chicken, but I still enjoyed it along with the pasta. My boyfriend had the Bolognese, which he really enjoyed as well. Well I finally found the time to return to ItalX for dinner but I'm not going to lie I was disappointed. Firstly, I know nothing is free, but if you want bread before your meal you have to pay for it, which the bread is nicer bread, but maybe offer some dinner rolls with oil? We decided on the pizza appetizer to start. But it came out cold, and I wasn't blown away by the flavors, it was just a flatbread with a whole lot of burrata. For dinner I had the shrimp linguini dish . I think the flavor expectation was fulfilled here. However, my dish came out cold again. On a cold snowy evening Fat Man Reviews found its way to ItalX in Lexington, KY. ItalX is an elegant Italian restaurant that serves elevated contemporary Italian food. They offer a large wine list and are located in the City Center, downtown. We started with Calamari. This was prepared with fresh squid, pickled peppers and a lemon-basil aioli. The breading was light and fried perfectly. The squid was tender and slightly chewy, while the peppers added a bright vinegar kick that was very pleasing to the tongue. The aioli was slightly sweet and acidic, offering a great balance to the dish We also tried Arancini. This is a fried fontina and risotto ball, served with basil-pistachio pesto and marinara. The crispiness of the fontina on the outside was perfect. The risotto was flavorful, and the marinara was fresh. The pesto was good but chunky, different and enjoyable. My fiancé tried the Butternut Squash Gnocchi. This dish consists of Pecorino butter, kale, mushrooms and cipollini. The gnocchi was light and fluffy but slightly doughy. The vegetables were all cooked well. The butter sauce was excellent and flavored well. It I tried the Tuscan Farro soup. The soup had white beans, onions, celery, carrots and roasted peppers. The soup had a good earthy flavor, the vegetables were cooked well, as was the Farro. The beans were inconsistent. Half were fully cooked, and the other half were a little under. It was a tatsy soup though. For my entrée I had the Marsala di Vitello. The meal was composed of sautéed veal scallopini, mushrooms, cipollini, Marsala wine and spaghetti. The wine, vegetables and spaghetti were all cooked well and had a great taste. The mushrooms were the star of the show. They were sweet, meaty and almost fruity. I could have just ate them. The veal fell short, as it was a little tough and chewy, but flavor wise it was good. ItalX offers several salads, appetizers, entrées and desserts. The have a full bar and offer several after dinner drinks such as coffee and port. The server that we had was top-notch, knowledgeable and answered all of our questions. My wife and I have been to ItalX twice and have enjoyed both times. The food has been delicious, the wines and cocktails are priced relatively well, the staff service has been good. We'll go back for sure. It's a LOUD place. Both times. It's beautifully decorated with lots of hard surfaces, so sound bounces all over. You'll need to project across the table for conversation. WOW! I don't go to Lexington often, but when I do I like to eat well. It was a thrill to attend the opening weekend of ItalX, the newest italian restaurant concept from the creators of Corto Lima, another outstanding spot to eat in Lex. The space is gorgeous & feels like you're in a fabulous authentic Italian bistro despite being connected to a hotel in a small Kentucky downtown. The bar is stunning, the wine display is beautiful, & they've managed to strike a delicate balance between classic & modern decor. I ordered a Frutetto cocktail, which was a perfect blend of apple brandy, apple cider, prosecco, & lemon. I tried to drink it slowly to savor every sip! For appetizers we enjoyed the calamari, little neck clams & carpaccio. The carpaccio had the addition of kettle chips at the base & it was the most surprisingly delicious part of the evening. I never would have thought about adding chips to carpaccio, but it was perfection. We also enjoyed the cavolo nero caesar salad. The greens were kale, which was delightful & the house made caesar dressing was divine. For entrees we split three options to taste as much as we could. The candele cacio e pepe was lovely, featuring house made noodles tossed in butter, pepper & pecorino. The prime strip steak was cooked a perfect medium rare & had balsamic roasted mushrooms & a polenta fritta on the side. My favorite, though, was the 24 layer lasagna. The layers were thin, delicate, & decadent. We ate it slowest to make it last as long as possible. Would hands down order it again...& again...& again! Dessert was the perfect finish to an unbelievable evening. I have not had tiramisu like this since I was actually in Italy! It had delicious hazelnut brittle as a garnish, espresso savoiardi & caramel. The combination took over my taste buds & make me wish it was a never ending dish. Let's start with the good- the food is delicious. Everything we had, we loved. The amica cocktail was delicious, arugula salad was a good portion for $9, and the bolognese was also a great portion for ~$18-19 dollars. The atmosphere is great, good for a date night or girls night. The not so good- old fashioned cocktail didn't hardly taste like anything besides water and bourbon.. granted it wasn't on their cocktail menu, but any bartender should make a good old fashioned, especially in Kentucky. My moms Caesar salad was $9 and considerably smaller than my arugula salad at $10. They were not consistent at all. My brothers halibut was $30 for probably 3oz and hardly any sizes. In conclusion- the quantity to price was all over the place and you didn't know if you were getting a tiny meal or a decent size. The menu item names are in Italian so it takes a good bit of time to understand the menu, tough to read and understand.
