My friend and I came in for some dinner and gossip, and yes the tea was piping hot lollllll. And I'm glad we had some good food to munch on while discussing all of it! Started off with a chocolate shake, so thick and delicioussssss. Then we got onion rings to share, and they were perfectly crispy. Then I got a Malibu burger, but I forgot to snap a pic before I completely devoured it :( highly recommend their ranch on the side, it's perfect for dipping whatever your little heart desires. Our server, Kiera was an absolute doll, she provided great service and excellent recommendations. She was very attentive and was busting her butt keeping everything clean and everyone in the seating area happy. There's plenty of parking, which is great, plus there's a lot of stores in the vicinity so you can walk around a little bit after dinner.

Maui burger

Headed up for lunch with coworkers. This time I ordered the Maui burger. I always enjoy a really clean restaurant and bar. This place is absolutely spotless. Service is good.

Tuna sandwich was awesome and fresh and the sweet potato fries were crispy and salty. Our server was top notch and gave us refills without asking (I like that). The venue has a beautiful warm island beach vibe that is enjoyable day or night! Can't wait to eat here again!

Great spot to grab a burger or in this case a burger salad! Their sweet potato fries are delish too! The service was quick and although they did not have the bowl I originally ordered the burger salad was a really good choice. The ambiance is casual and chill they have lots of screens to be able to catch a sports game too! And although it was not happy hour time the menu advertised some pretty good deals I'll have to go back to check out!

My first time here for happy hour. They have a pretty good happy hour menu with multiple items to choose from at a reasonable price. My mangorita was too sweet and it could use a bit more alcohol.i also got sliders (three mini sliders for only $7). I loved crunchy caramelized onion. The hours are good too (3:30-6:30). The space is good for group gatherings. I appreciate that they were able to do individual checks. I'll def come here more often from now on.

Kaanapali Kobb

SAN DIEGO, CA: April 2025. Late night decision to find something to eat that's on the lighter side. Anything open around 8:30 PM seemed to be on the heavy side, especially in an unknown food territory. I saw that this was a not a five star chain restaurant, debated, but glad I chose here. I was greeted immediately, seated immediately, server came immediately. I like that menus were on the table so I could start food cruising immediately. $17.59 for most salads. Prices were a bit on the high side, yet seemed average as meals are heading to the $20 range everywhere save for In-n-Out. Islands had some protein bowls for only $10 which sounded like what I needed. But after reading the ingredients of the Kaanapali Kobb salad, ordered that without regrets. Crisp greens mixed with blue cheese crumbles, diced tomatoes & scallions, bacon, hard egg, avocado, and generous strips of grilled chicken. Chicken was plentiful, tender and thankfully not overcooked. Mind you this was not a high-end elevated salad, but it was very good, solid "Kobb" salad. Fresh and crisp. Nice portion. I would order it again. I don't usually point out a server because sometimes it seems...pointless. This young server named Lena was so genuinely cheerful on a holiday weekend who, despite being nearly closing time, displayed the cheerfulness of someone just starting a shift on the first day on the job. Lena went above and beyond. She won't be there long because that girl will soon be a college grad or be stepping up the corporate ladder. Kudos. Hence the five stars for service for a decent four star salad.

We were on our way to the cinema and I was really craving a burger and there it was - Islands, just by the movie theatre. We went it, ordered some sweet potato fries, lettuce wrap burger and soda. Good service, delicious food, and decent portion size. Overall really good

The food is delicious and the service is very quick and the waitress was very nice and kind. This is my go too for good food! And the Ambiance is very nice and is like a Hawaii bar/Grill!

Thankful Islands was open on Christmas Eve following church service. Service was great and efficient. Our server was attentive and always smiling and accommodating, I ordered #BeachsideSliders which I had before but the meat was lacking this time. I love pickles and it came with lots of them and it made up for the lack of meat. The #CheddarFries was loaded with cheese and scallions and very yummy Maybe since it was near closing they were skimpy on the meat but everything else went well.

Chips with guacamole and salsa

Upon arrival my husband and I were immediately greeted by the hose and sat at a small booth, it was a very snug fit so I asked to be moved to a more comfortable table. We were then were sat at a more comfortable table for us. Our server Emmy came to our table with napkins and coasters and asked us what we'd like to drink. I ordered a root beer and my husband ordered a coke. I had a coupon for a free order of chips with guacamole and salsa, so I presented that to the server. She entered my code in and brought us our drinks and gave us a few more minutes to decide what we'd like to eat. Our server brought us the chips and took our food order. I ordered the Yaki tacos and my husband ordered the Kilauea burger with fries. We really liked the chips with guacamole and salsa, although the guacamole needed a little more salt(which we added ourselves). Our dinners came out scattered, which I did not like. My husband's fries and burger came out atleast 5 minutes before my tacos. My husband liked the fries and his burger, he says he'd definitely get it again. My Yakima tacos were very good, although I wish there was more chicken and more teriyaki sauce in them. You could tell all the ingredients was very fresh, which we appreciated. On our way out, I did see a few tables that still looked like they hadn't been cleaned up and that was unappealing. Overall it was a good experience and we'd definitely come back again. It was a decent price and alot of food, we even took home alot of our dinners and chips too.

Service started strong but slowly got sloppy. Decided to stop in around 7pm for dinner. Server got our drinks right away. Thursday night football was on. Food came out in a reasonable time and was cooked correctly. Food server asked if we needed anything else and we asked for ranch but they never came back with it. Was already half way through my meal before our original server checked on us. Took the server a long time to reappear so we could pay the bill. After paying, I asked for the receipt and it looked like the server was going to get it. Saw him minutes later going to cash out the tables in the outdoor patio. I'll prob just go to in-n-out next time.

Beach Bowl

We are enjoying the blue Consisting of blue cheese dressing red onion lettuce and tomato, blue cheese crumbles and you pick white or wheat bun. Beach bowl is yummy w grilled pineapple, bell peppers edamame and water chestnuts, scallions and broccoli. Choice of hoisin or teriyaki sauce. Drinks, sunny blonde and super delicious mai tai! A/C cranked up, nice tv's and the Celtics are celebrating 2024 NBA title! Alareece gave us such good cheerful service and I was very impressed with a waitstaff that was not our waiter that came by to clear some dishes. Good teamwork

Veggie Longboarder burger with a garden side salad
Allyson D.

I haven't been to an Island's in awhile, but used to go often back in the day. It made me kinda happy with nostalgia because it looks exactly like it did in the early 2000's, but in a good clean way. This location seemed well kept. I was happy to see that they still offer a real veggie patty, in addition to an impossible patty. You choose what type of burger you want, just sub for a veggie patty for free. I ordered the longboarder which has thousand island dressing, but with a veggie patty. It comes with fries, but I requested a garden salad instead. They charged $1.85 extra.. which is honestly kinda crazy considering the burger itself was $17.39. Aside from that, the garden salad was a perfect size, and I enjoyed the cucumbers, carrots, and tomatoes in it. The burger was good, however I wished grilled onions was offered. OR, I really don't mind raw onion, but when it's 1/2" thick, noooo! Why is this acceptable? Lol. I recommend 3-5 thinly sliced onions, and then it's easier to eat instead of sliding all over the place. I made such a mess in front of my friends. Haha! Service was pretty good for a party of 6 for a Friday lunch. The server was smiley, attentive, and brought some kind of joy to the rainy weather we were having.

It starts with 10 juicy pieces of plump chicken thighs in a light and crisy batter tossed in your choice of sauce, with additional rounds of 5 pieces each. Our server was super attentive, making perfectly timed stops by our table AND continuing to serve us while we were in the game room embroiled in the battle of the walking dead and other retro games. Our bartender Mike was great, and may Mai Thai ($14) defiantly did what it needed to do. It was sweet, strong and served with the cutest bear-shaped glass with a beautiful purple flower on top. One drink had a girl feeling tipsy. We ordered from the late-night "midnight Bites" menu, which was the only thing we could choose from at the hour of our visit. Everything we selected was really good. Wed got the Frito Pie ($12), Chicken thigh tenders ($7), and Tots ($7). The frito pie presentation was my second favorite part (after the bear glass drink), It came in a all-clad style bowl with the chip bag cut open inside, loaded with Texas-style chilli, melted nacho cheese, and shredded cheese. It was so good I even started adding tots in there too. The tots and Thigh tenders had the perfect crisp! They have sweet and sour chili sauce for dipping with the chicken which was fab! The retro decor made the place even better. I loved seeing the old Blockbuster VHS tapes and music cassettes displayed around the bar. My little eye also spot the Dallas Cowboys flag! Texas energy is definitely in the house. There's also a small arcade area in the back, and my eyes instantly lit up seeing PAC-Man. We didn't get to fully explore the game room because we were trying to make it to Ghirardelli Ice cream & Chocolate shop for dessert before they closed at midnight too. Thankfully everything worked out perfectly since our car was parked right in front of Ghirardelli. NO military discount was honored here even though the owner is a veteran, but overall I still had a really good experience and would definitely come back whenever I'm in the Gaslamp district in SD, Cali. (Oops posted it on a smoke shop in Texas. This review was meant to be shared here) Update: Response to owner: Joe V. That was the best response from any owner I have ever received!!! I love that you mentioned yall haven't been mistaken for a smoke shop in Texas, that Mai Thai last mea bit. Yes sir I reckon it did.

I am so lucky because these people didn't pay their deposit and we got the time and the lane. When I entered the restaurant around 7:00 PM, I was stopped and questioned extensively by security regarding my service animal. Rather than being asked the limited ADA-compliant questions permitted by law, the interaction became prolonged and uncomfortable while staff repeatedly attempted to determine whether my dog was a "real" service animal or simply an emotional support animal. I remained waiting at the entrance while this was repeatedly discussed back and forth. What made the situation especially humiliating was that another patron openly laughed at me during the interaction while walking outside for a cigarette. I later realized this same patron had her own dog inside the establishment in a stroller the entire time. Staff members appeared very familiar and comfortable with her, and multiple employees, including my waitress- referred to her as a "regular." Although her dog was eventually moved to the patio area, the contrast in how the situations were handled made me feel singled out, embarrassed, and unfairly scrutinized. I later spoke with management in hopes of resolving the matter respectfully. During that conversation, I was surprised and concerned to hear that neither management nor staff were familiar with psychiatric service animals or their protections under the ADA. Psychiatric service animals are legally recognized service animals when trained to perform disability-related tasks, and this lack of awareness was deeply concerning, especially in a city like San Diego with a large disabled and veteran community. I fully understand that businesses are allowed to ask limited ADA-compliant questions regarding service animals, and I also understand that many establishments have dealt with individuals falsely claiming pets as service animals. However, there is a significant difference between appropriately verifying a service animal and making a disabled customer feel publicly interrogated and humiliated. The overall handling of this interaction lacked professionalism, sensitivity, and basic understanding of ADA service animal protections. No customer should feel mocked, scrutinized, or publicly embarrassed simply for entering a restaurant with a legitimate service animal. I sincerely hope this situation can serve as an opportunity for additional ADA education and proper service animal training for staff moving forward so that other disabled guests do not experience similar treatment. I would appreciate being informed of any steps the restaurant intends to take regarding ADA compliance and staff training before I determine how I would like to proceed further. Thank you for your time and attention.

Captain's Log, Stardate 21483…read more This past Sunday, I charted a course to Nicky Rottens in Coronado, a delightful establishment located at the end of Orange Avenue. From the moment I arrived, I was greeted by an uplifting open-air environment, truly a breath of fresh air that felt like stepping onto the observation deck of the USS Enterprise. The amazing views of the bay were nothing short of spectacular, bringing a serene beauty that rivals the finest star systems. Over the years, my wife, her girlfriend, and I have become frequent travelers to this culinary haven, beaming back for nearly 15 years--a testament to its enduring allure. The selection of IPAs and mixed drinks is impressive, catering to even the most discerning palates in the galaxy. The choices are vast enough to satisfy anyone embarking on this flavor exploration, whether you prefer a refreshing drink to toast a successful mission or something bolder, like a phaser on stun! The menu features a delightful array of options, including fresh salads, tantalizing finger foods, and, of course, their famed burgers. My wife's enthusiasm for the offerings has always been infectious, and during this visit, she and her girlfriend were on a culinary adventure of their own, indulging in the flavors that have made Nicky Rottens a local favorite. The burgers are truly out of this world--juicy, flavorful, and expertly crafted to ensure a warp-speed experience with every bite. You'll find that each dish is prepared with precision, as if overseen by a skilled chef with the abilities of a Vulcan and the passion of a true culinary Starfleet officer. In conclusion, Nicky Rottens is a prime destination for anyone seeking a vibrant atmosphere, stunning views, and a solid meal. I can confidently say that if you ever find yourself in Coronado, this establishment is a must-visit. After all, it's just one small step for man, and one giant leap into deliciousness! Thank you, Jesse; we truly appreciate how wonderful you are. The cleanliness of this bar is impressive. Watching sports here feels just like home, yet uniquely exciting--big screens, great food and drinks, and even better company. It's truly a priceless experience. Free and convenient parking.

Plenty of street parking even for a 1pm game start! Unlike places like Gaslamp, PB, Hillcrest I was pleasantly surprised! ADD 1 STAR Great outdoor seating area both covered and also out in the sun. Huge outdoor screen for the game too. Plenty of other tvs around the bar! ADD 1 STAR Plenty of water stations to help keep you hydrated! Even dog bowls for your 4 legged friends! ADD 1 STAR Staff were friendly and welcoming and always came around to clear our table. My only issue was the food. I was so disappointed in the smash burger. What's up with smashing the bun into a hard pancake both top and bottom bun? I've had better tasting smash burgers but I can get a better one at Jack in the Box and for $10 cheaper. It was so underwhelming I didn't even want to take a picture. The tator tots were awesome! Perfect crunch and spice....so flavorful! The women's bathroom is a little strange and quite frankly a waste. Two toilets set up side by side like how urinals are. This only works if 2 close friends are in there. They could easily make this 2 stalls and keep lines to a minimum. So 2 toilets but really just 1 women's bathroom.

The dude behind the counter was fun and they had about 12 different pizzas to choose from. My only…read moregripe was that the pizzas had what felt like the minimum amount of protein on them. The crust was crunchy and sauce was flavorful, but it had about 4 little bits of chicken on my slice. Food came out hot and I liked the laid back vibe of the place.

SLICE HEAVEN--yes, that's Pizzeria Luigi. Everything feels thoughtfully done without trying too…read morehard. Whether I'm popping into the Golden Hill spot or making a stop while visiting friends in IB, the result is always the same: consistently great pizza and zero regrets. There's something about walking in, scanning the case, and immediately deciding you need at least two slices--ideally completely different, because why limit yourself? Our go-tos? The White Girl and the OG Crime Scene. Both are standouts for very different reasons, and we somehow convince ourselves every time that adding a "new slice for research purposes" is the right move. It always is. The crust hits that perfect balance--crispy, chewy, and sturdy enough to handle all the goodness on top without falling apart mid-bite (a true art form). One of the few crust I eat from end to end. It's casual, it's reliable, and it delivers every single time. We've been loyal to the slices so far, but the rolls and other menu items are calling our name--so safe to say, we'll be back soon with more "research" and another review.
