    $30 SKECHERS ... at a THRIFT store ... it's becoming comical.

*2022 REVIEW - BUYERS BEWARE* Looks like this specific Island Thrift got some new pricers. It is extremely disappointing I write this review because I've always thought this was one of the best thrift stores on the island. Well now after taking my most recent visit at the end of 2021 I can say this store is extremely, INSULTINGLY over priced. I'm sorry but who do these pricers think they are?! Skechers for $30, Fila for $20 (the same ones you can buy for $25 new), crumbled fake leather bags for $18, Old Navy worn boots for $30, and the worst that I saw MATERNITY pants being sold at a higher price than the retail tag. Ripping off a pregnant woman is a new low. This is greed. ISLAND THRIFT TALK TO YOUR PRICERS! Have some loyalty to your customers. Only reason I'm giving a 2 star is their inventory size is great, but truly not worth the drive for their insane new prices. See pictures below for reference.

This photo says it all. It's how they are with everything.

Very overpriced and they staple the tags onto the clothing so it cuts into your skin then when you remove it, it creates a hole! So dumb!

Ollie's Bargain Outlet is an American chain of discount closeout retailers. They sell a variety of overstocked and unsold items. Their merchandise includes seasonal products, pet supplies, apparel, games and toys for all ages, household goods, beach supplies, candy, cookies, dry goods, books etc. The Ollie's Cares Foundation supports feeding America, Children's Miracle, Toys for Tots and several other generous charities. Ollie's raises more than 2 million a year for trustworthy charities. So much to be proud about! I originally walked in with the intentions of purchasing a Ollie's gift card, butter cookies and the $5 advertised Children games. I did purchase the gift card but unfortunately the butter cookies were out of stock and the floor team could not locate the $5 games. I was disappointed but I will complement the very pleasant and relentless staff in trying to help find these nonexistent games. Lol. Another plus is cashier Taylor, she was so sweet and courteous. An asset to your business! And plenty of parking in a well lit lot. Best wishes Ollie's! I'm sure I'll visit you again.

Located on the north Sunrise Highway Service Road (NY Route 27) between Nicholls Road (County Route 97) and Waverly Avenue (County Route 19), this shopping center is humungous and busy. It is so large and busy, that Gateway Boulevard which connects it from the Sunrise Highway Service Road at the South to Waverly Avenue at the northeast has two signalized intersections. The shopping complex consists of a phase 1 shopping center, phase 2 shopping center, a McDonald's, LA Fitness building, Home Depot Building, and pads. Gateway Boulevard also passes through the wooded Tuthills Creek Greenbelt before the Waverly Avenue entrance. Gateway Plaza features 38 shops and restaurants that include: Home Depot, Burlington, Best Buy, Michael's, Dicks, Ashley, Five Below, Marshall's, Game Stop, Bagel Lovers, Applebee's, Cold Stone, Nonna's Pizza, Verizon, and T-Mobile. It seems to have everything but a supermarket. I am very familiar with Gateway Plaza. I remember in the 1980s when it was forests and that a lot of the shopping activity took place at the older shopping centers at Sunrise and Waverly, Sun Vet Mall, and Downtown Patchogue. Then suddenly in the late 1980s when I remember George Harrison's "Got My Mind Set on You" being #1, Phase 1 of Gateway Plaza was built. This brought major big box stores that offered value such as Nobody Beats the Wiz, Service Merchandise, and Bob's Stores to the South Shore of central Suffolk County. From there memories were made. I remember buying Nintendo games and CDs from Nobody Beats The Wiz, eating pizza with my Dad and grandparents, enjoying a bagel breakfast at Bagel Lovers, and buying clothes at Bob Stores. In the early 1990s, it extended with phase 2, which brought in a King Kullen supermarket. Home Depot, McDonald's, would follow. After I moved out of New York, LA Fitness would go up as would a Burger King at the Waverly Avenue entrance. Here is my perspective of Gateway Plaza, taken from someone who had been very familiar with the Patchogue area since 1983. That is that this development was so big that it transformed the area from semi-rural to suburban. This could of easily been used in its natural state as a county park with the Tuthills Creek running through it. When I visit Gateway Plaza those memories of forests cannot be purchased at one of their stores. With that said, I do like Gateway Plaza. It has made life more convenient for people living on the South Shore. When deer and wildlife roamed on this acreage, it was necessary to have to drive to the Smith Haven Mall area to shop at some of these stores. The Smith Haven Mall, especially during Christmas season can be very hectic. Shopping at Gateway Plaza is relatively stress free. The shopping center is laid out well and there are the two traffic signals adding a layer of safety. Speaking of safety and convenience there is one flaw. That is the North Sunrise Highway Service Road entrance. Where there are two traffic signals inside the complex, there is a want for one exiting onto the service road. The flaw increases with the lack of an entrance from the South Service Road. The customer approaching from eastbound has to exit onto Waverly Avenue then turn north and left onto the westbound Service Road. Interestingly Gateway Plaza expanded when Sunrise Highway was expanding into an expressway. However, an overpass was never built. Recently, when I have returned to Long Island to see my Dad, I have been to Gateway Plaza a few times. There was one time when we went to the Verizon Store and one on October 20, 2024 when we went to Dick's Sporting Goods. All in all, I like Gateway Plaza. With the exception of a supermarket, I appreciate their selection and variety of stores and restaurants. Additionally I appreciate the low stress level of visiting and shopping in Gateway Plaza.

Please pay attention because you are in my community. If you succeed it benefits my family and friends. This evening I was on a mission to purchase shoes for my elderly mother-in-law. I was pleasantly surprised to find 2 pairs. What stinks is the sweet cashier did not know the refund policy. Breanna asked three (3) associates the answer. Finally, answer is you may return Christmas gifts by January 3rd for a refund. After that credit only. Ok I can deal with that but you should extend the return date until January 15th. Ok here's the worst experience about Burlington this evening.. We are walking out with bags in our cart and my shopping cart jolts back on me. Security witnessed this and apologies. He explains the carts cannot leave the store and to prevent that from happening the wheels lock up without warning. This practice is reckless! I didn't get hurt but what if I was a 8 months pregnant person or a fragile older person? How do expect your customers to safely get there purchased items to their vehicle. Warning. Major problem! I believe This will be your downfall. Expect future lawsuits. I plan to return to Burlington in the future and will happily remove this review if things have changed for the positive. Good luck!
