I'm an avid thrifter and probably been to every thrift store on LI. This thrift store by far the most expensive thrift store I've ever shopped in. Mens jeans average $20.99-24.99, I kid you not. They think Gap is a premium brand. I saw a used jacket listed here for $168.99. I normally spend on average $200 at thrift stores but not there. Today they only got $35. If they were reasonable I would hv spent more. Very greedy store, I won't be back. AND THEY USE JAMMERS TO BLOCK YOUR CELLULAR PHONE SERVICE at this location. Which is ILLEGAL. Forget getting or sending texts or phone calls or looking up things up on your phone. Despicable people. read more

I've passed this place while going out to tractor supply co and always wanted to go in. I finally went t with a friend this past weekend and it was great. The selection of items is great. I was able to get four tshirts, and a dehydrator and spent about $40. The dehydrator was a little over $18, which my friend and I looked up how much they usually ran for. I love that there are sections in the store for clothes, kitchen items, toys, etc. They do have bathrooms but they're hidden in the back of the store. Which is whatever to me. The downside is when you walk in, the jewelry is right there and there can be a chock hold if people are there. It's built like a small hallway. All in all I love the place. I've been stopping in here frequently, mainly looking for cast iron. I've found several pieces, some that I'd call vintage, others I'd call modern users. I've yet to figure a system to which color price stickers are 50% off for any given day, just that Wednesday and Sunday have the most "on sale." Prices for the stuff I've been watching for have always been reasonable to cheap. Wish the staff members' English were better. But that could also be phrased as "wish I had paid attention in Spanish class!" (For the record, my Nonno spoke a Sicilian dialect of Italian and almost no English. Firstly, Island Thrift is a great place to find bargains for used or donated items that are oftentimes new or gently used. That being said, there are some caveats one needs to be aware of before going there. Not everything is a bargain. Tons to choose from clothes to used toys and electronics and knickknacks (no returns). Customers and some staff there are often rude and surly. Other staff are really nice. Sale days have marked down items but pricing can be arbitrary. You can still find bargains but you have to look. My rating is 3 stars. read more

After passing this place multiple times I finally decided to stop in and see what it was like, and I'm very much so 50/50. The store itself is HUGE, has a great amount of items and it is pretty organized. Clothing, furniture, kids items, house hold items, etc. The employees, not so much..I worked retail for a long time, so I can appreciate having a task list and trying to move around customers awhile continuously working, but these people literally BUM RUSH you to squeeze by to hang a single item...this happened not once, but more than 3 times from 3 different employees within the 45 minutes I was shopping. There was announcements the entire time I was shopping, every couple of minutes from an employee that would very, VERY loudly explain the stores procedures over the loud speaker, again I can appreciate this. Although I can't appreciate it repeated that many times in a 45 minute time frame..we get it, don't bring the carts outside, don't walk away from the jewelry counter with jewelry, blah blah. Lastly, I find them expensive..it's a THRIFT store. I'm no where near expecting to get things for a few cents but just because something's brand is Michael Kors or LOFT that doesn't make the rips and stains magically disappear...and give the ability to charge $15.00 for a USED STAINED shirt. all in all, I'd say 6/10, and undecided if it's worth going back. *2022 REVIEW - BUYERS BEWARE* Looks like this specific Island Thrift got some new pricers. It is extremely disappointing I write this review because I've always thought this was one of the best thrift stores on the island. Well now after taking my most recent visit at the end of 2021 I can say this store is extremely, INSULTINGLY over priced. I'm sorry but who do these pricers think they are?! Skechers for $30, Fila for $20 (the same ones you can buy for $25 new), crumbled fake leather bags for $18, Old Navy worn boots for $30, and the worst that I saw MATERNITY pants being sold at a higher price than the retail tag. Ripping off a pregnant woman is a new low. This is greed. ISLAND THRIFT TALK TO YOUR PRICERS! Have some loyalty to your customers. Very overpriced and they staple the tags onto the clothing so it cuts into your skin then when you remove it, it creates a hole! So dumb!

The problem with thrift shops in general - not shooting a bullet.. but Island falls into this category. They use online "offering" pricing to set the price on hard line goods. That's not legit. the "sold" Price should be at least the mark. (You can "ask" anything you want... that doesn't mean that's what it's worth.) People are looking for a bargain when they go to Thrift stores - pricing, even at sold prices is not realistic. I'm sure they do well with the uninformed but overall - every time I go to a Thrift Shop these days they think "wonder what I have" and are asking dumb prices. Old stereos have issues and generally need servicing, Old speakers foam surrounds are rotted, Missing remotes can be expensive and hard to find and so on.. Stick with bargain pricing and maybe they'll sell some clothing as well bc those prices are realistic. Also - the negotiation has stopped. also not good. I know it takes time and generally every store is always a bit understaffed staffed given that payroll is a large factor - but people like to make a deal. I hope management sees this...and takes heed. read more

HORRIBLE!! From the NASTY cashier lady who treated me like a POS to the narrow isles filled with workers who WILL get through by you , smacking into you multiple times so they can put things away. No care in the world and they get annoyed if a customer is shopping in the isle. Had to keep navigating around these mobile steel racks with clothing on them that the numerous employees would wheel into the already narrow isles , are you kidding me? Then finally you've had enough of being slammed into by employees and racks etc. you go on " line" ( or lack there of) the " line " goes down the isle. Need I say more ? So on top of zero room. Now you have people who cut you in line because they walk up to the front register and don't see the line formed all the way down the 15 inch width isles. Ok fine. You get up to the register finally and you have the nastiest cashier barking orders at you " MOVE THAT CART!" , " GO OVER HERE! NOW!" , rings you up. You give her the money ( which is WAY overpriced) .. no thank you. No have a nice day. Just shoving the receipt in your hand and starts yelling at the next customer. DISGUSTING. Good selection of stuff- JVC stereo with wires for the speakers, ceiling fan, VCRs. Plenty of clothes. Toys. A whole bunch of bicycles out front for sale- it looks like a 5th grade bike meet up. There's stuff everywhere. The best part is the boat hanging from the ceiling as you walk in. Nice touch. Parking can be a bit tight, but Vester always finds a spot (cats are good at that stuff). I go here all the time. Every day they have two color tags half price and on Sundays, four. Sometimes they even do sales when everything is half price except clothing. I'm a plus size, and they have a fair selection of plus. I also buy CDS and books. Their prices have increased over the years (and some of the stuff isn't even worth half price) but I have a $5 rule- that's all I'll pay for an item. It's not the cleanest place, and sometimes parents let their kids run wild which is annoying.It's hard to maneuver a cart in some areas because the layout is bad.Staff is always friendly and many times I ask for a bag and they don't charge me. I am a film camera collector. I always find a good selection at the Island Thrift locations, but they are always extremely pricey. You used to be able to go to a local thrift store and find a deal, but they charge top dollar for everything and are often over priced. So I was at Island Thrift on a Thursday morning to look for items to resell on my site. I saw a pair of gray Ugg boots in the front of the store for $198.99(actually it was 1 boot, the other is kept behind the counter). I took a closer look, and it was blatantly obvious to me, being a reseller, that these boots are NOT authentic. I told the cashier and even handed her the boot. She asked me how I knew and I explained to her how I did. She thanked me. As I was walking around the store, I see her talking to a blonde-ish, thin, older woman (who spent way too much time in the sun when she was younger), this must have been her manager. Now I see the older blonde-ish manager look in my direction, make a face and put that FAKE Ugg boot right back on that rack with the same exact price tag for $198.99 on it. HOW DARE SHE DO THAT! Now some poor bastard is going to purchase these FAKE Uggs when they theoretically could go directly to the UGG website and purchase authentic boots directly from the manufacturer. I found a beautiful coat and HAD TO HAVE IT! When I brought it up to the register, I informed the cashier that the price tag was missing. He then told me "I can't sell it to you then". I was beside myself. What do you mean you can't sell it to me? He then told me "the people that price the clothes left for the day and will be back Tuesday". I called the store manager who was beyond rude, I mean the type of rude that makes me feel like maybe in a past life I stole her husband and had the children she couldn't have. Unreasonably high prices despite its nice atmosphere. Being my first trip there, I had higher hopes considering the nicer area, yet was disappointed not only in the lack of media (video games, DVDs, music), but also the ridiculously high prices for many items. There were mostly books, records, and old VHS tapes in terms of media, and the fact that some books and used CDs were priced at $3 + tax made me cringe. Add to that I saw a couple of video game consoles in the back, one of which was a 1st generation fat PS2 system for a ludicrous $88!!! I also saw a comic book rack, stacked with very old and worn Archie comics, with a sign that read "Comics: $8.99." Um, excuse me?? $8.99 for an old worthless comic book?? I almost gagged, praying it was some kind of sick joke. I could only imagine how much the clothing was, but that, and the electronics looked the same as any other thrift store. There were only a handful of video games up front behind the counter (mostly Nintendo DS), and at those prices I saw, one could likely find them brand new for a cheaper price at a retailer or online. On the plus side, the atmosphere was quiet, the items were well organized and the staff seemed nice. The 2nd star of the review is for the cleanliness and organization only. These LI thrift stores are seriously going the way of major retailers, which totally and completely negates their entire purpose for existing, except without nearly as nice of an upkeep. At this point now, you're better off just shopping at Target or Wal-Mart. So much for a decent deal. read more

The atmosphere of this shop is off-putting, to say the least. Unlike all the other major thrifts in the area, it is virtually empty of customers. I found out why when I attempted to try on clothing. I found all four dressing rooms padlocked shut and failed to get anyone to open them. The employees seem nervous. Combined with the fact that the prices seem to be at or even in some cases above retail, even with the half price deals, I am going to give this store a pass in the future! read more

I go to a lot of thrift stores and this one is definitely one of the best. It's HUGE and very clean. No musty odors, very neat, everything easy to see, no clutter. I was able to pick up some very high end clothes for my daughter that were brand new/tagged for less than half the retail price! I love this store! read more

Not sure if the bad reviewers even have the right place. This is a for profit store they purchase the items from places that take donations giving cash to the needy. When they sell the items it's for profit. There's a notice of this inside the store. In any case I love this place as I'm on a fixed budget and have found furniture here for so little that I can finally get my apartment in order. read more

This is the best of the Island Thrift stores in the area that I have shopped at, this includes Selden and Brentwood. The employees are friendly, helpful and numerous, always on the floor picking up items dropped by the shoppers or left in the dressing rooms. The effect is that it is a very clean thrift store. They always have 50% off 4 colors on the weekend so it is easy to save even more. I always find Banana Republic, Ann Taylor, Michael Kors, Ralph Lauren, and other great and good brands. Many of the items still have the original tags on them and all are clean and in great shape. The kids section is the same, great brands in new or almost new condition. Whether you are shopping for a man, woman, child or teen, you can find great buys here. The only complaint are the shoppers who let their children run wild, but within minutes of it happening there is an announcement asking parents to keep their children with them and an employee appears in the area which usually gets the kids back to the parents. The store is huge, clean, has enormous amount of stock which is constantly being replenished and the staff is friendly, polite and professional. read more
