Anderson's Rental, located just a short walk from the Oak Bluffs ferry terminal, is the PERFECT place to get your gear for a fantastic day biking the Vineyard. They have bikes for every age and experience level, as well as helmets, bike locks and maps of the island trails. Customer service is outstanding, the prices very reasonable, and the inventory fairly extensive. We showed up without reservations on a weekday in June and had no trouble finding bikes for our family of 4. A wonderful experience from start to finish!

Unmaintained bikes and slow service…read more It took 45 min to pick up 2 bikes and a trailer. The person helping us forgot to give us the second bike. Then, their bikes are unmaintained. The first bike had a broken gear shifter. The second bike they served us had a broken seat, to which they replaced the seat with a seat that had the cover cracked. Finally the trailer had a flat tire which we didn't discover until after we bikes a few miles. The guy also "cleaned" the trailer with a leaf blower. Kind of genius but not really the clean we were looking for. Also note the sign says "Martha's Vineyard bikes" so you may miss it if looking for Pedago

Tony was great! We were interested in 4 regular bikes, but I've always been interested in trying an…read moreelectric bike. Apparently, Tony sensed this because he negotiated an amazing deal for me. We rented two electric and two regular pedal bikes -- seamless rental process, good price, great service. They even held our bikes in the shop until we were done eating breakfast nearby. When we returned to retrieve the bikes, Tony made sure we were all set up -- adjusting the seats for each of us, explaining the electric bike controls, and providing a basket and a saddle bag for us to carry our bags. Overall great experience -- we explored the east half of the island, riding to Edgartown and then south to the beach -- the lock was helpful for the beach time, and restaurant visits. The owner showed up with the car at 8:55 as well. We went into the shop as soon as they let us to start filling out the paperwork. The owner proceeded to raise his voice that the two other people in our group needed to do the paperwork but we were already half way done. There is four of us in our group so it took some time for us. The owner then got pissed off and said in a rude manor that we needed to be back on time since other people were renting the car. How rude of the owner while all his workers were so kind to us. Especially on the 4th of July. We were back on time but shame on the owner for having a disgusting disrespectful attitude like that. WE WERE ON TIME NOT HIM. we enjoyed our ride.

But only complaint or should I say concern is I'm not sure how well maintained the Slingshot rentals are. I've never driven one before, so it's very possible that what I experienced driving is just how they drive, but to me a few things stood out. - slow acceleration; needed to really push the pedal to accelerate past 25/30 MPH. Luckily most of Newport is 25 MPH speed limit, so it's not like there is much of a need to go fast anyway - BRAKES; again this I think is more just a slingshot thing...might have nothing to do with maintenance. But as someone who never drove one before, I was very surprised at how bad the brakes were. The vehicle decelerates pretty rapidly when you let of the gas, BUT you also have to anticipate and ensure you have enough distance to brake and safely come to a stop. I still had a ton of fun and amazing time cruising around the city and taking in the sites. It was very fun to drive down toward the Cliff Walks.

When mentioning my issues after returning, the employee said it was my fault I didn't call in and report leaking oil or no kick start, she did not care I had no phone single in that portion of the island.
