Although Martha's Bike doesn't rent scooters, he didn't try to rent me a bike, he told me about a place that did rent scooters and told me how to get there. So helpful! I don't get why their bikes are 20% more expensive to rent than other locations around the island considering they are the same style and often, the same brand of bikes. But alas, the ferry stopped in Vineyard Haven so we had to utilize them over the place we had picked out in Oak Bluffs. We were greeted by a woman at the front counter who explained the costs and everything involved. I wish there was a pricing board somewhere as I didn't see any listed. Luckily, at least a helmet and lock were included in the pricing for an all day rental (which had to be back by 6 PM). We asked for a map and one was promptly given to us and we were shown where it was safer to ride to Oak Bluffs as well as where to park our bikes while we were there. The part where we were really turned off was the gentleman who gave us the bike. All he did was wheel it out from the garage area and basically peaced out. My wife, who hasn't rid a ton of bikes in her life, would have like to have the gear system explained to her. I went over it with her on mine and they are like triggers, this bike was a knob that turned and she wasn't familiar with the differences in low to high gears. You can't just always assume that people know what they are doing and they should be making sure the person feels comfortable with everything, including seat height, which we also had to adjust for her later in the ride. Given that there was little instruction offered and the prices being higher than other spots, there is some work to be done here to warrant the increase in rental costs. read more

My friend and I came to this rental place to rent bikes to ride to Edgartown and Oak Bluff. Adam and Ben were very attentive in getting us the best-fitting bikes to ensure our safety and comfort. They offered to pick us up in case we do not complete the loop, but we did and had the best time! Bob and Jeanette were friendly and happy to provide their services. We rented 3 bicycles with baskets for the day. Jeanette walked us through their policies and rung us up. This was our first time on the island so Bob gave us maps and helped us plan a route before letting us leave. Georgie even fitted and adjusted the bikes to us individually! This is a wonderful place for anyone to do business with. We were having such a great time on the excursion Bob helped us plan we missed dropping the bikes off before they closed for the night. Owner of the shop was great and very helpful! We got the electric bikes and it was an amazing time! Called the shop for mopeds as no shops on the island seemed to be renting until May 1st. The owner of the shop said he did not rent mopeds but highly recommended electric bikes as they go 20 mph with little effort. We went over to rent them and people in the shop were friendly and answered all our questions of where to go. Awesome bike rental, George was very helpful in getting the bike fitted, checked the tires, and provide a good helmet so I didn't have to think about it. Talk about easy, friendly and great service this place nailed it. We got fixed up with two bikes and were on our way in less than 10 mins. Given a few great recommendations of places to go and avoid and we were on our way for a great day adventure. 8 hours and 18 Miles later we handed in our trust worthy bikes back and felt that we got our money worth. We only wanted to rent for a few hours, they still charged us the whole day and even that was overpriced! On top of that I specifically wanted to avoid a certain road because I've been coming to the vineyard all my life and know that the beach road is too busy to ride on. They told me that everyone goes that way and that its not a problem. It was a problem. Additionally, i asked where the bike trail was and they told me the wrong area! These people are BRAIN DEAD! The bikes were in bad condition and needed to be serviced. Dropped in on a busy Saturday in peak season, were immediately greeted by the man outside. We asked if we could rent three bikes and he said of course, and offered to put on front baskets to accommodate our purses/cameras. He ushered us inside to complete the paperwork, where the people inside helped us get our helmets fitted, sign rental agreements, and pay. The woman at the counter also gave us bike routes to get down to Edgarton. She was more helpful than the people who work at the visitor's center, to be honest! We paid $25 each for a full day with the bike. When we went outside a few minutes later, our bikes were all ready for us. Heights perfectly adjusted, baskets on, lock and keys handed to us. And absolutely none of this was extra charge. Spectacular! We were unsure we would make it back to the shop by closing time of 6pm so they said we could just call ahead to let them know we'd be late, and lock our bikes up out front. We called around 5:30pm saying we would definitely be late, but they said they would stay open until 7pm to accommodate a bunch of late bikers. We got there at 7:05pm (whoops!!) but the guy was so nice and said he'd probably be there till 8:30p as people kept dropping off bikes. The whole process was ridiculously seamless. Is there a 6-star rating that I can give??? Thank you Martha's Bikes for making our day trip there so enjoyable and worry-free. read more

Made a reservation for a tandem bike for 8:00. They dropped off the bike at 9:45 and it was broken. The brakes were locked down and we couldn't adjust them the driver who dropped the bike off quickly drove off after dropping it off and there is no way he didn't know it was broken because he wouldn't of been able to wheel it onto the truck like that. Called the company and they said there was no way for them to fix it or drop off a replacement tandem. The guy on the phone sounded like he knew it was broken too. They offered to drop of two singles (keep in mind we already waited an hour in half) We got a refund and went to Cottage City Bicycle and they saved our day buy renting us a working and much better bike. Let's face it there's a little rebel in all of us. Sometimes we want to hop on two wheels, feel the wind in our hair, and just cruise. As the morons on Jersey Shore would say, YOLO! This is where Martha's Bicycle Rentals comes in. This past weekend myself and 6 equally bad-ass friends arrived off the ferry from Woods Hole with one goal, to take on Martha's Vineyard. With the help of this place we did it in style. We saw Ernie Boch Jr's llama(it's a pretty sweet llama), ventured to South Beach, jumped off bridges(I'll deny this to law enforcement), and drank tasty beers at Bad Martha's. The only thing I didn't get to do was fist-bump President Obama while he was there, but I can't blame Martha's Bicycle rental for that, we can blame those pesky secret service. Seriously these guys were/are awesome. Friendly, affordable, and all the local tips you could ask for. Not to mention, being only 1/4 mile from the ferry makes Martha very easy... to get to. So embrace your inner hooligan, start a biker gang, and let the shenanigans ensue with the help of these guys, even if it's just for a day. read more

My husband and I are currently on vacation in Martha's Vineyard and brought our bikes to bike the island. On our first day of biking I got a flat tire. I brought my bike to Martha's bikes and they were extremely helpful in repairing my bike. I also rented a bike from them for the day while my bike was being fixed and the bike was great. When I first rented the bikes everyone was really helpful and wonderful- they stressed that if a flat tire were to occur they would quickly come and fix it. Well, that wasn't the case. It was my last day in the island and I was anxious to ride. When I started riding, I noticed a flat tire. They took 2 hours to come and pick up the bike and then told me they would take two more hours to deliver it. Unfortunately, by the time they were going to deliver it, I wasnt going to be around. When I asked them to comp the day or provide a small discount, I was faced with a a person who was rude, unnecessarily unprofessional and constantly interrupted me when I was talking. Ultimately, they offered me a "comp" day for the next time I was on the island- which is never since I never go there. All in all, I wish they would have been more understanding and stuck to their word of fixing a flat tire quickly. If I would have been stuck in the middle of the road, I would have been waiting for hours. Bad customer service and I left without any type of help. read more

Georgi is the best! My friend and I rented bicycles here when we were visiting Martha's Vineyard. We only wanted them for a couple of hours and not the whole day, so he only charged us $15 each. They have a whole fleet of well maintained bicycles, and you get a helmet, bicycle basket and bike lock with your rental. They also have kids bikes, tandem bikes, and bikes with pet carriers in the back. Georgi helped us adjust the seats and got us on the road. I can't say that I'm going to run out and buy a bicycle, but I'm glad I went for a short 5 mile roundtrip bicycle adventure to a nearby lighthouse. read more

The bike was OK, but the seat was the most uncomfortable I ever had! Not good for long biking! Be careful! They will ask you to pay in advance (also for more days), but they won't refund you the money if you bring back the bike earlier. Was directed here when looking to get air in my very low tires. Multiple staff members were outside and quick to help! They filled my tires free of charge even when I asked to pay them. They also put my mind at ease when I thought I had destroyed my tires since they were so low but I had just not been riding it enough (maybe if I rode more, I'd know that!). I made a reservation for Saturday, changed it to a Sunday, missed the ferry to Vineyard Haven and switched the pickup spot to Oak Bluffs. Despite this, my four bicycles were ready and waiting on a summer Sunday. The bikes were in great condition, much better than bikes we rented from someone else last year. Then we decided to drop the bikes off in Vineyard Haven instead of returning to Oak Bluffs. All of our changes were met with unending smiles and "Sure, that's no problem". Terrible and avoid at all costs. Three bikes delivered at a cost of almost $600 for two weeks. When we got on the bikes one had no back brakes, only front brakes. The back brakes you squeezed and literally nothing happened. The second bike the gears wouldn't shift properly when going uphill, so one of us had to walk up every hill. All of the bikes had brakes that squealed loudly when you applied pressure. We called and asked them to take back the bikes and credit us for the balance of time. Nick refused, saying he would only give us a credit for a future rental. I told him I did not want to use his company again, that they had delivered faulty bikes without anyone from his company checking or safety testing them.after a heated argument, he finally agreed to a credit on our card for the balance of time remaining. We summer on the Vineyard every year and have always used another company with no problems. Stay away!!!! read more

I love theses guys! Every time I go to Martha's Bicycle Rental, they do something to make me think they are awesome. They sold me one of their used rental bikes. Yesterday, I noticed that it wasn't running 100% right, so I brought it in so George could take a look at it. I picked it up today, and do you know what they charged me? Nothing. Zero dollars.
