Island Gypsy is by far one of the best shops in LBI. I've been going to the island for over 10 years and it is always my first stop. I never leave empty-handed!. If I could give them NO STARS I would! On Friday night, right before closing, I went into the store and found an outfit I liked. I was not able to try it on since the store was closing, so I bought it with the intention of trying it on at home. On Saturday morning, I tried it on, liked how it fit, took the tags off, and wore it to breakfast. While at breakfast, I stuck my hand in the pocket and discovered that the pocket, at the seam, was completely torn apart. My entire hand went through the pocket. Immediately after breakfast, I went to the store with the receipt, told the manager what happened, and was promptly denied an exchange, a return, or even a credit towards my next order. Although I'm 22, my mom was furious so she went in to the store and spoke with the two managers who were both working the registers. They simply repeated the return policy without giving any consideration to the circumstances. The one manager told her I could just sew up the hole in the pocket. I spent $50 for these pants. For $50, a consumer expects the clothes to be defect free. This is not a hole that could have been put in the pocket by anyone. It is the entire seam of the pocket. It looks as if either all the stitching that held the pocket together came apart or was never sewed. All I wanted was to exchange the pants for ones that were not defective. I was not looking for my money back. It is atrocious that they sell defective clothing in the first place. And it is even worse that they would not exchange said clothing when a defect was discovered. DO NOT SHOP HERE!!! read more

Went here today for the first time because they were having an end of the season sale. Lots of items were $15 or less which was great! However I tried on about 7 different items and you could tell the clothes were really cheaply made. The fit, seams, and cuts were all off. It seems like fast fashion quality clothing. The dresses were all extremely short and I'm 5'3. They have cute items but I won't be going back in the future due to the quality. read more

Do not shop here! Their clothing quality is terrible (think Forever21) - they gave me a hard time for returning an obvious defective dress only three days after purchasing with the original receipt and tag in hand. They said their policy does not cover defective items because I can't "prove" I didn't ruin it. Any true clothing boutique store manager would know the difference between an unfounded return and a defective item. Staff was beyond rude, just an overpriced fast fashion store made for tourists looking to spend money. Buyer beware! read more

This is a store for 14 year olds ran by 15 year olds. There is a line at the register 10 customers long and only one register is open while the other 2 employees are opening new merchandise instead of jumping on the other register. This store is mayhem. I can't even walk through without feeling judged and out of place. I am here every multiple times ever summer hoping it will be better, and it never is. There is staff complaining, looking at you rudely, constantly in your way not letting you get to the clothing. It's like they don't want you to shop. Additionally, there is way too much stuff on the racks. You can't even move anything. When I do pick something up, a staff member or a security guard look at me like I'm going to steal it. Rest assured though, the owner comments on yelp reviews saying they are award winning for customer service. A friend told me I HAD to visit this boutique when we visited LBI. She was right, the clothes were cute but the service was anything but. We perused the store without being greeted although all 3 of the staff members working glanced at us. With arms filled with merchandise, we searched for fitting rooms, and out loud remarked "where do we try these on?" to one another with what seemed like the store owner, within an earshot. No one turned to us when we checked the fitting room doors to see if they were open, and helped ourselves to one each. No one asked if we needed different sizes, when we were yelling so to one another through door. All of this, mind you, was within 5-7 feet of the entire staff and register. Having worked in boutiques similar to this, I am more than aware that this is not how you treat a customer. I carried the same brands at the boutique I once worked and was still willing to pay the inflated prices for the cheap quality had someone even said "hello" to us. I will not be returning. read more

I live 2.5 hours away and I seriously consider driving all that way just to shop there. Love the selection and store lay out in Ocean City. Organization by color helps a lot honestly. Clothing is very fairly priced. I had an issue with one of the sweaters I purchased and they were so accommodating and understanding. The manager that helped me was very personable too. I have been a loyal customer of Island Gypsy since the first summer they opened. I was surprised to see all of the negative reviews as I always have had such a positive experience when shopping at Island Gypsy. I come down each summer around this time of year with my family and one of our favorite stops is always Island Gypsy. My daughter and I always find beautiful items that we both love in this store (something that doesn't happen quite often). The staff is wonderful, friendly, and so helpful. Last summer the register girl actually called one of their other stores and had my size shipped to me as the Long Beach Island location ran out of size smalls. Our family looks forward to shopping here every summer and has become one of our LBI traditions. read more

I used to love this store, I live on the island and been going to this store since it opened! Last weekend I bought a shirt for a BBQ, it didn't have a tag on it at the time but the girl at the register rang up another one, seemed like it was not a big issue and wasn't warned of anything. So I go home and layout the shirt and realize there is a hole in it! I ended up wearing another shirt to the BBQ and called island gypsy the next day to tell them my problem and that I would need to exchange it. Again seemed like no issue and the employee said it could be exchanged. The next weekend I went to the store with the shirt still in the bag with the original packing, and of course the receipt (basically untouched since I purchased it). The girl at the register named Colleen said she couldn't return it without the tag on the shirt. I informed her the shirt didn't have the tag when I bought it originally and was not notified of any consequences while purchasing the shirt or when I called to inform them earlier that week about it. Colleen continued not to work with me. I then asked for the store manager, named Bethany, and she said she could not return the shirt because it smelled like I wore it! Could someone please tell me what a warn shirt smells like and how this store bases their returns on a smell. Again, I NEVER got to wear the shirt because of the hole, so it's "smell" should meet their strict qualification. I don't think they realized how absurd they sounded, so I asked if there was anyway I could get in touch with their district manager or owner. They said they could not give out that information, not even an email. I ended up leaving with the shirt because I was not getting anywhere and didn't want to hold up the line. I have to say I was disgusted by their poor customer service. They basically accused me of trying to return a shirt already worn and ripped by me when that is not the case. They even defended their action by saying that I personally stated "I wore the shirt" to them which never came out of my mouth, because it didn't happen! I am not sure where in customer service they were taught to lie in order to avoid an exchange/return. Ultimately, I am hoping to reach someone directly to resolve this issue, since both Colleen and Bethany refused to give me any direction to go in. But for the meantime, if all their employees reflect the two I met yesterday, expect to be treated like a liar and criminal while they sit on their "high fictitious pedestals." Again, I've been going to this store for years and never returned anything nor was I ever treated that way. I want to continue shopping there and I hope someone can reach out to help me solve this predicament and shine some light on why their employees and policy are so eager to assume customers of wrong doing. read more

I have loved this store for a very long time but recently I have seen it in a new light. The usual happy, bright employees are not what they were this time last year, or even last month. It was to my dismay to see a girl being consoled by a coworker, evidently in hysterics. As means of avoiding making the situation worse, I left the girl alone. Though I did not catch the conversation, the poor girl looked upset. I proceeded to the back of the store, where I loudly overheard someone in the back room laughing on the phone with someone. It put me off to see the difference between the two employees and discomfort in the store. I usually leave with a bag full of clothes, but left empty handed today. Very cute clothes but awful service. We walked in right when they opened and we're the only customers in the store with at least 10 girls. Not once did they say hi or offer to help in any way. When I did ask for help they seemed put out by it. The layout is good as far as organization but the racks at so overly stuffed that you can't even see what's on them or flip through. The vibe of this store is beachy and laidback yet just sophisticated enough. The clothes are soft and of good quality. They also remind me of the ones I've seen in Aritzia, Calypso, and Anthropologie (except a beachier version). Prices are moderate. read more

This store has cute clothes but horrible service. I always hesitate going in here because the employees are so rude it's uncomfortable. I'm a young girl in my 20's who works in retail, just like these girls & my managers/boss would never be okay with me treating customers the way that they do. I have never been greeted and never been offered any assistance while shopping. I've seen other customers ask for help and the employees act annoyed that they have to help them. I wish there was some number for me to call because this is just so unprofessional and after reading some reviews on here, it's clear that their rude employees have caused them to lose a lot of sales. read more

Rude Service! My daughter and her friend purchased over $100 worth of clothing here last weekend. The clothing they bought was not cheap but was very nice and of good quality. However, the women working in the store were accusatory, mean, and rude to the girls. Even though my daughter and her friend were planning to come back to spend even more money, they changed their minds when the women working there treated them as though they were trying to shoplift. The women followed them around the store (not to help them but to make sure they weren't stealing.) The saleswomen should learn that their job is to try to make sales and to treat paying customers well. They shouldn't judge customers by their age or appearance. read more

The product selection is amazing however there are 3 dressing rooms and no one monitors the number of pieces customers bring in so many times you can wait in excess of 30 minutes for a dressing room. Most women are with their husband or significant other so if you factor in browse time with try on time the experience loses appeal. Please add more dressing rooms and give a time limit to the dressing room time as you are losing sales. read more

I always have gone here, been living here for over 20 years. Have always loved the clothes. Always been a bit overpriced considering that many break within a month or two. Then I accidentally said a number short of the items I was trying on, since one item was not on a hanger, and I heard the staff talking crap about my mistake while I was in the changing room... saying how they don't get why people lie about how many items of clothing they have, how they are dumb, etc. People make mistakes. Then as we were looking at the jewelry, I picked up an item an a girl behind the desk automatically said I'll hold it. Acting like I wasn't going to pay for it. Yet the cashier was directly next to the jewelry and we were about to pay. We didn't even want to buy the clothing after today. Not sure if we will come back. read more
