I got a spray tan a few weeks ago and a few days after my tan session I received a gift card in my email for a bronze free tan and it was good for 1 visit and that was all the information I got. I came back to get my FREE TAN and it was only a 10 dollar gift card. It said nothing about it having a balance and the worker was very sweet and called Michelle the owner to fix the issue and Michelle insisted it was a 10 dollar gift card and not a coupon for a free visit for a tan. I had to pay 30 dollars for a bronze free tan because Michelle falsely advertised the coupon and what it was. She was not helpful whatsoever. If you're going to do coupons ADVERTISE IT FOR WHAT IT IS!! I don't even like the formula here and prefer Bronze on Third but this was supposed to be free.... I would've just gone there. Anyone else ever experience issues with Island Glow in Town of Farmville, Virginia? I'm so disappointed in my experience with Island Glow in Farmville! I had purchased a gift for my wife to give her on Mother's Day which has turned into a nightmare. I purchased a (non contract) package for 99.00 +tax 108.00 which I was told included 15 visits within 30 days. I figured it was a great way to see if she liked her experience before possibly purchasing the 69.99 (3mo) package. Well here we are a month later and my wife has been charged $108.00 for another mo & she received a email saying that now it's a reoccurring mo payment! To also add the only reason my wife was charged was because she had purchased LOTIONS while tanning!!! When i originally walked into this business to purchase the gift, the young lady that was helping said she was new but showed me on the chart on the wall that this was in fact no contract!! We will now unfortunately be disputing this with our bank as well as contacting the BBB on Monday. I personally will be warning everyone on Social Media (Facebook/Twitter/IG) regarding this. My wife went into the location yesterday and was informed that the young lady who I originally purchased this gift from made the mistake of not checking a box on their computer, and my wife would be refunded. This morning woke up to a email from Caroline saying the (non contract) is now a reoccurring payment and my wife would not be receiving a refund!!! honestly, I cannot believe the way Island Tan and Glow in Farmville treated my mother. In december i purchased an ONLINE GIRT CERTIFICATE for 2 SESSIONS in the hydrobed. There was a drop down box for me to choose from the various options. I did not "type it in myself" as was accused by management to my mother. Management lied and said I had came in person to change the certificate to a $20 certificate of some kind. I never did this. I am in nursing school and reside in Mecklenburg County. over 50 minutes from the Farmville location. I have absolutely no time to come there and change anything. Management said I changed it and they explained the reason I shouldn't yet I "persisted". Once again, this never happened! It's sad that management treats their customers so rude! Saying sarcastically that my mother must be "so proud of me". I have never. The accusations and lack of accountability will be the reason me and my mother, and probably others who see this review, will never return to this location. It's sad that the young staff are very kind yet management is hateful as can be! I wasn't even close to Farmville the 31st of December. In fact, I was home mourning the loss of my cat! I've been going to island glow since my freshman year 2018. I have always been a loyal and happy costumer. They always have great student discounts and deals going on and I would always promote their services to other girls I knew. However, I am very disappointed in the recent service I received. They recently started promoting eyelash extensions. I was really excited about this and they had a deal going on where it was only $20 instead of $50. I had a formal event to attend the weekend of so I took advantage of this opportunity and got eyelash extensions. They mentioned how it is a new service and that they were still training, which I understood. I was told not to let any water hit my eyes for 24 hours or so after I got them done. I did have to shower of course but avoided washing my eyes, this was also many hours after. Not even 12 hours after I got the extensions they started coming off. I put them in a bag to bring to the salon the next day to show that they had fallen out. I asked for a refund or to be reimbursed for a different service in the future since I just wasted $20. I was told that I'd get another free eyelash extension service if I kept the eyelashes in the bag so they could reuse them. I told them I'm not okay with that because I don't believe for that to be sanitary and would rather just have my money back. After reaching out for days and being ignored by the manager, I was told that it was a learning curve and that is was essentially my fault that they came out and that the most I could get back was a $10 gift certificate. It is unprofessional to promote a service that is still being learned and not guaranteed to work. If this was the case then I should have been given back the entire amount that I paid, $20. I have a hard time believing that the business would that been negatively impacted by giving me this amount back. As I mentioned before I am a college student and work for the money I make and have also been a loyal costumer. I've given the Woodlake location a few tries. As others have mentioned, Laikyn does a great job and I lucked out having found her on my first tan. Going forward I would book with her and all was fine. In March I went back and it was a different (new) girl who did my handheld spray tan. It didn't turn out well - spots were missed and it was very uneven. The owner contacted me via text to ask how the service was, so I was honest and provided the feedback that if we schedule with a specific employee we should not be moved to a different one without notification. The owner gave me a $25 gift certificate and an apology, explaining the employee was new. I went back this past weekend (April) and same issue - I booked with Laikyn and was given a the same employee who had messed up the first time. I understand the only way she can learn is to practice, but the customer should be able to choose if they want someone in training. I tried to use my $25 gift certificate and was told it expired in March, one week after it was sent to me. With tip I paid over $50 for this tan and this was after rinsing in the shower. I love the color and how long it lasts, but the inconsistency is too much. I can't say I plan to return. read more

I got married this past weekend and it was nothing short of awful when it came to makeup, hair, and what was SUPPOSED to be a tattoo cover up. Michelle, the owner, was very nice when trying to find a new makeup team after my hired artists were unavailable after having to reschedule our wedding again due to Covid. My wedding party consisted of me, 3 bridesmaids, my mother and one flower girl and paid well WELL over $1700 dollars. She was very unreasonable and unwilling to bend at all. She had put a timeline together that had the entire bridal party ready by 11:30 when the wedding was not until 4:30. The photographer saw the timeline and was wanting/asking for things to be pushed back 30 minutes so she could get photos of me getting ready but Michelle was unwilling to do that. She had two other artists come with her for a 9am start time for such a small wedding party. Then obviously they finished quickly and were packed up so quick and out the door to go to another wedding. Michelle stayed to do my hair and makeup and cover my tattoos which are not colorful or extensive and was expressed from early talks with her that was important. I was charged 75 per tattoo. One saying in somewhat small writing on my inner arm "proverbs 31:25". During my trial, it was suggested I get extensions to achieve the fullness needed for the updo I wanted. There was no discussion about an additional cost to put them in day of or anything of that nature. THE DAY OF THE WEDDING, the extensions were out all day and nothing was brought up about it until I sat down in the chair and handed them to her. She then states she will not put them in because I did not pay her for them. Luckily one of my bridesmaids is good with hair and makeup and put the extensions in for me as Michelle stood behind her on her phone and also critiquing the placement of the extensions. I had told her I wanted everyone's tattoos to be covered thinking I paid 75 dollars per person for their coverups because no tattoo was complex with any color whatsoever, only to find out days before that it was 75 a tattoo, resulting in having to just cave and just have mine covered, then to have my maid of honor putting my extensions in while she just stood there was mind blowing to me. Someone I believe I overpaid tremendously for already, would not even as much as move an extension so it would not show. She just worked around it and kept saying she was doing this and that so the extension clip would not show. The photographer got there and there were no pictures being taken by her or anything. ALSO, my MOH (who did some of what I paid so much money for this company to do ) asked her to fix a part of her makeup that was that was not right on her cheek, her statement was "that's not built into the timeline and I don't think I have that color" I was ready by 2:30 and she was packed up so quickly and left without even trying to make sure everyone was happy with their look or offer to assist with any changes or touch ups that were needed or anything. It was left up to my MOH to help all of the bridal party fix their hair from so many hours going by due to being ready so early. ALL of my "getting ready" photos were taken with my MOH acting as the MUA which is sad because when so much money is paid for makeup. This cost being more than flowers for the ceremony and reception, my dress, DJ, AND photographer. I was not prepared for such unprofessionalism and feel I was robbed of money and everything had a hidden cost behind it. The tattoos were not covered up and actually made those spots just look dirty. I ended up wiping up the "cover up" right after the ceremony because it was transferring onto my husbands and guests clothes when I would hug them which just added salt to injury because I paid $225 dollars for them to be covered up only to wipe it off within an hour or of the actual wedding starting and now the photographer who feels bad over situation is photoshopping all the photos so they aren't showing like I was wanting. My dress is also covered in makeup and was unable to get it off so the dress was dirty looking during the reception. I would never recommend this company for a day that's so special read more

If I could give 0 stars I would. Michelle is extremely unprofessional, overpriced, and fake. She is sneaky with her pricing, takes short cuts, and seems to treat her employees horribly. I've never had a tan last for such amount of time. The cancellation policy is sketchy. My car broke down, 6 hours before my appointment, I called to cancel and was still charged for my entire appointment and was told I couldn't get it refunded or use it as credit to make a new appointment. I've noticed that with the VersSpa machine, Michelle sets it to a light spray and color, so you're not actually getting what you pay for. This helps her use less product, make more money, and keep you coming back to get it redone. I'm extremely pale, and couldn't even see the "light" color on my body. Her employees were always very nice, but it seemed that they were honestly miserable. I also had a friend who used her for weddings and said she does not care about the bride at all. She does what she wants, when she wants, and somehow makes the day about her, not the bride. It seemed that she was using un-trained girls to do hair and makeup during the wedding party because it seemed the trained people did not show up. I do not blame them, she seems like an awful employer. I just feel if you pay upwards of $1500, you should be treated with more respect. At the end of the day. Cancel your membership. Don't get a membership. Lastly, for the love of god.... Don't work there lol. Michelle is extremely shady and condescending. So I have done teeth whitening, tanning and eyelashes at Island Glow and Laikyn Severson is the best. So I was bringing my son and husband to do the teeth whitening a few months ago and the Owner cancelled because of the snow which was fine. So we rescheduled for the next weekend and I had to cancel because my son was still at college studying for an exam. She told me if I cancelled she would charge me for the service. I was trying to reschedule for the next weekend. She said I have to do 24 hours before. When she only cancelled a few hours before the saturday before. Then I was personal friends with her referring customers and she defriended me and blocked me from Facebook. I am sorry this is not a very good way to do business. Michelle Walters and the team at Island Glow gave me the BEST wedding tan, hair and makeup experience! My hair and makeup trial was two months prior to my wedding date, and I was immediately comfortable with Michelle and Brittany. They listened to my requests and the look I wanted, and made it come to life with the help of some photo references. Michelle came to my house 2 days before my wedding to give both myself and my soon-to-be husband spray tans. It was a five minute process: easy, and I didn't have to clean or prepare for the tans, Island Glow brings a pop up booth and just needs an electrical outlet. The color was natural and gorgeous, and I received so many compliments. My husband did not, which was GOOD, only because his was so natural no one knew he had gotten a tan! On the wedding day, Michelle and a team of three other Island Glow-ers arrived 15 minutes early and were prepared to start right on time. 10 women had their hair and makeup done, and they were flexible enough to add 1 more person who wanted in, since they were ahead of schedule. Mother of the Bride was a little loony all day, running around and not ready at her designated time, and the team just laughed and worked with her to make sure she got exactly what she wanted hair and makeup wise, when she wanted it. I had pre-arranged for Michelle to stay through first look and photos, until the start of the ceremony for touch ups. But she did so much more: helped my flower girls with the baby's breath crowns the florist dropped off when we couldn't get them to fit, adjusted my dress in pictures, and was ready with blotting sheets and lipstick at a moments notice. She put in a flower piece that I had forgotten was coming, and my veil, when she hadn't even known that was happening. The Island Glow experience was AMAZING and everyone loved their final look, and the fun experience of getting glam with Island Glow! I have already gotten another bride to use them for her wedding day coming up, and am SO excited to get to see Michelle and team again. BOOK THEM! You will not regret it! read more

Michelle and her team our professional, FUN and thorough! I have only utilized the airbrush tan services, but I am very pleased! I used to tan in stand up spray booths and let's just say after airbrush, you never go back! I love that Island Glow is so convenient to my home and that I can pick up the skin products that they make and sell at the same time as my appointment. The color is always beautiful and even and I always receive compliments on the tan. I love that they also work with you to fix any tan lines as well. I wish I could have had that for my wedding! She also gave my mom her first spray tan ever for my wedding, and my mom could not stop raving about how much she liked it. Island Glow's mobile tanning service is quick and convenient for busy people on the go. The organic formula smells good and holds it color for about a week. I moved to Farmville a few months ago and was excited to see that there was a spray tanning salon here in town, but I could not be more disappointed by Island Glow. Initially, I was put off by the restrictions on the membership package (can only tan 4 times per month) and limited days and hours of operation, but I decided to give Island Glow a chance. My initial regret came after my first tanning appointment in their VersaSpa booth, which was an older, outdated model. Within two days my tan was completely gone, despite using the lotion that they claim makes the tans last "for weeks". I have been getting spray tans for years and have never had a tan fade so quickly despite the proper preparation and aftercare. However, my biggest dissatisfaction comes from their questionable cancellation policy. I went into the salon prior to the end of the month to cancel my membership, and an employee told me that all that I had to do was put my information and request for cancellation in writing and that the owner would take care of it. I was shocked to see that a membership fee was again drawn from my account on the first of the following month. When I called to inquire about this, I was told that all cancellations take 30 days to go into effect and I would be charged for the month's worth of tans that I had no intention of using. This information was not relayed to me by the employee or the owner when I went in to cancel. Most of the staff I interacted with were friendly, but lacked knowledge and clarity about salon/membership policies. Unfortunately, I will have to continue to travel an hour to get quality spray tans and service. I would not recommend Island Glow to anyone. read more
